  4. Once again I have to point out that Hunter Claw also works with a ranged weapon (like Blunderbuss) in the offhand. With Driving Flight you can get a lot of stacks just by firing one blunderbuss shot. So you don't have to use a melee-only setup if you don't want to get too close to enemies. Hand mortars do even work with the AoE hits - although not all of them will count (it's kind of weird). You do need to put a melee weapon in one hand though. Sun & Moon does give you 2 stacks per swing by the way. So it's a great Hunter's-Claw weapon as well (melee of course).

  5. nope. bear is definitely decent for survivability, but other pets are viable. resilient companion helps, so does just healing your pet. worst case, just spend 2 bond to revive your pet (with the ability). hunter's claw is amazing. it does require a wee bit of metagame knowledge, but you can sorta tell what enemies you're going to face as you enter an area. and "race" here means one of kith, wilder, vessel, spirit, beast, primordial. primordials are probably the one that's uncommon enough that it's not worth really stacking up with (except for megaboss, since hauani o whe is a primordial). but otherwise it's so good it's worth dual-wielding melee weapons [since when dual-wielded you double your potential hunter's claw stack speed] and just spamming only that, plus self-empower for extra uses, just for the first few fights after a rest to max out your bonus. (and technically, it's bugged, so if you save/reload you can stack infinitely). +20 accuracy is huge and applies to everything you do (including spells, if you're a multiclass). same with +20% damage (it also applies to spells). the +20 defense option is good for a tankier build since by being an "All defenses" bonus it stacks with deflection-only bonuses like mirror image, arcane veil, or even a dagger modal. basically hunter's claw is so good that you would have to have a very good reason not to pick it up on any and all rangers. (note: do not combine a hunter's claw build with the woedica god's challenge as you'll have a very bad time) strictly speaking, given that you can get up to +50 accuracy (+10 marked prey, +10 stalker's link, +20 hunter's claw, +10 survival of the fittest vs <50% health targets), you could completely dump perception altogether and still crit enemies left and right. but personally i don't like dumping stats below 5 or 6, and it takes a while for the ranger to really ramp up all their accuracy bonuses, and on PotD enemies have high defenses, so as a general rule on PotD i really try to avoid pulling perception below 10 at all, doing so only if it's a character that is not really offensively minded (a buffer, a healer, or a tank).

"The Global Hunger Index 2018 ranks India at 103 out of 119 countries on the basis of three leading indicators -- prevalence of wasting and stunting in children under 5 years, under 5 child mortality rate, and the proportion of undernourished in the population." https://www.indiafoodbanking.org/hunger 3000 children in india die of hunger every day. however, if it makes you feel better, india did improve its ranking by 1 in 2019. is now 102... but only 117 countries were evaluated in 2019. poverty has decreased in india in recent years, but has actual increased in many rural predominant agriculture dependant areas. edit: india shares most of border with china, pakistan and nepal, and is not like you can get a bunch o' people to hop in a rickety boat in the arabian sea hoping to make it to europe. 9. Most Indian emigration is not to continental Europe, certainly. It's mostly to anglophone countries, and is mostly legit. But, it's not really a fair comparison and the underlying reason given is basically plain wrong. India may not be massively rich and powerful on a per capita basis, but they have a truly monumental amount of capita. Also, India has a long and storied history of famines brought about by, well, British colonialism and them selling cash crops or exporting food while other areas in India starved. That's stopped since the Brits got kicked out because now agricultural excess in one region can be used to help out in drought or whatever, and India is big enough to resist most of the pressures that see similar things happen in Africa. That's hardly a great example of a country pulling itself up by its bootstraps after colonialism though; it's more an example of the evils of colonialism being corrected when you're powerful enough to tell your colonists to FOAD and mean it. Which the vast majority of Africa isn't, hence them growing cash crops mandated by the IMF and relying on imports of cheap subsidised Euro/ US staples. Most of the current refugees/ economic migrants are also not refugees because they are literally unable to feed themselves. If you're going to Europe from, say, Ghana or Congo or even Mali you'd typically have a multi thousand km trip involving long journeys by vehicle or ship, have to pay people smugglers or bribe border guards etc etc. You're not likely to do well making such a trip with no money and being hungry in the first place since walking you'd be looking at months of travel through impoverished or desert areas where you aren't going to get food. It's the same with war refugees, if you have the money you can simply bribe border guards or people smugglers to get you in to Europe. If you don't... welcome to a squalid camp in Jordan/ Turkey/ Lebanon/ Iraq/ Syria/ Pakistan/ Iran and good luck if you try to walk into Europe without paying someone something. Most refugees or economic migrants to Europe are not dirt poor, at least not for their countries of origin, they just about have to have money.

  14. - The equipment and other info is taken from the wiki, so it could be wrong or incomplete - Thanks for everyone who gave me advice, especially Boeroer and Thelee - I am not the ultimate expert, so I am happy about any feedback I get PILLAR OF ETERNITY, the engaging riposte rock The idea is simple. You stand there like a rock. You engage as many enemies as possible. They try to hit you but they miss and you get many riposte attacks. Almost all of your attacks heal you. Version: 5.0 Difficulty: I never played PotD, but I hope it could work solo: high defense + lots of self heal, it could work (not tested) class: steel garrote paladin / trickster rogue race: wild orlan ( resolve is your main stat, so you don´t want to lose it) background: Aedyr, select skills dependent on your equipment stats: mig: 14 con: 8 dex: 8 int: 14 per: 14 res: 20 talents: lv1: Flames of devotion, crippling strike (apply affliction without casting) lv2: deep faith lv3: lay on hands lv4: paladin auras, weapon+shield style lv5: inspiring triumph lv6: divine purpose lv7: eternal devotion, riposte ! lv8: dirty fighting lv9: escape lv10: exhalted endurance, persistent distraction ! lv11: tumbling lv12: adept evasion lv13: rightous soul, deep wounds lv14: iron gut lv15: clear head lv16: virtous triumph, slippery mind lv17: bears endurance lv18: snakes reflexes lv19: stoic steel, deathblows ! lv20: bulls will profiencies: large shield, spear, club equipment: weapon1: Kapana Taga (club, crush/slash damage, daze on hit, +damage per engaged enemy, +2 engagement, immunity to flanked) weapon 2: stalkers patience (spear, +1 engagement with modal, hamstringing, wounding, extra damage against flanked targets (just engaging flanks them, scales with stealth) shield: Akola´s Apex Ward or Wintertide Bulwark (both can proc an attack when missed in melee) head: Blackened Plate Helm (+engagement) or Champion´s Helm (+riposte) Neck: Token of Faith (+2 resolve) armor: Reckless Brigandine (+engagement, +attack speed per ennemy engaged, Into the Breach (damage+AR up when health down) rings: Entonias Signet Ring, Ring of Protection shoes: Boots of the Stone, Boots of speed if you wish to provoke disengagement attacks cape: Cape of greater Deflection hands: Bracers of greater Deflection belt: Upright Captain´s Belt pet: Nalvi (+1 resolve, reduced armor penalty) Why??? Steel Garrote paladins heal themselves when they damage a target that has any affliction, rogues are good in causing affliction and with persistent distraction you afflict them just by engaging them. Paladins have high defenses and Tricksters can improve defense even more with wizard spells. If you get missed in melee you can have a riposte attack, an instant full attack without recovery. If you have several sources of riposte like effects, all of them can proc on a missed melee attack (talent, champions helm, shield). So I chose to maximize my defense and engagement slots to engage (and afflict) all enemies around me to provoke riposte attacks that heal me. The club (Kapana Taga) is fantastic. Two damage types, +2 engagements and immunity to being flanked (-10 deflection) and the club modal reduces will. You could use this to terrify enemies around you to provoke disengagement attacks. For enemies with weaknes to pierce attacks use a spear+modal and stalkers patience is the best spear. The spear modal penalty (- walking speed) is meaningless because of large shield modal. You cannot move, but you take 50% less damage from ranged and reflex attacks. Thanks to the belt you cannot be moved by enemies and stoic steel improves your AR when standing still. You can still move a bit with escape and this does not count as moving, so protective effects do not end. If you wish to be a bit more active you could move around to provoke disengagement attacks from enemies. If they miss they can proc riposte from you. If you think your defense is high enough without shield you could equip Whispers of the endless path and upgrade it to defensive parry. You attack several enemies at once and attacks that miss you proc AoE riposte from you and all of these attacks can heal you. I selected the talents and equipment as defensive as possible. On lower difficulties or if you still feel save without them you could replace some defensive talents with more offensive ones. I am not sure if sacred immolation would heal you much if several enemies around you have an affliction. You need guile for wizard spells so there is no need for active rogue abilities. Paladins may want sworn enemy and abilities that assist the party. Practiced healer does NOT increase healing from drain effects, like Steel Garrote attacking afflicted enemies. It is strongly recommanded to play in rtwp mode. In rtwp enemies need to roll a 31 to graze, in turn based a 1 is enough. Edit: Changed cape because you can get cape of greater deflection also without Beraths Blessing.

  18. I've been to Al Asad several times but it was quite a while ago and things may have changed a lot and it like most places I've been in Iraq wasn't fortified against real deal heavy munitions. As was previously mentioned those just weren't the weapons that we were ever supposed to be defending against. IIRC the base did have some heavy duty bunkers being used for various different things but I may be misremembering as Al Taqaddum had them and as I said , it was a while ago.

  21. Knowing they were coming short term was irrelevant to how well the bunkers worked- it's like the question as to why there weren't Patriots at the base to protect it; they weren't there because a week previous no one expected a ballistic missile attack, they only expected the odd katyusha or mortar class round. The bunkers were built with the thought that the largest munition they'd have to defend against was maybe a few tens of kgs of explosive (like the typical grad's ~20kg warhead), not multiple hundreds of kgs like a typical ballistic missile carries, because the risk factor was insurgent attacks not a state actor attack. It's both difficult and expensive to build defences against 600kg of TNT equivalent even if it isn't traveling faster than the speed of sound. There's at least one video of the attack shot by US servicemen (or civilian contractors) and the shelters are basically medium walled but open air with a reinforced roof. TBIs came from the blast wave, not direct impact effects, and those bunkers provide pretty basic blast wave protection because a katyusha or mortar doesn't have much of a blast wave to protect from, their main problem is direct impact or semi direct effect (shrapnel). The shelters are fine for both of those, but not for an explosion 30x larger. You can also see that a lot of the people sheltering are, understandably but foolishly, watching the explosions instead of actually sheltering and that exposes their heads to the blastwave...

  22. no mystery. https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/13/middleeast/iran-strike-al-asad-base-iraq-exclusive-intl/index.html the bunkers troops sheltered in were not designed to protect human beings from the missile attack from iran. HA! Good Fun! ps the bunkers being wrong for task is not new news, however, we did notice info from today for anybody genuine interested in actual reading. Department of Defense Informational Session on Traumatic Brain Injury "We recognized this beginning early in the current conflicts and began working with the Veterans Administration, as well as with the NCAA, the NFL and other stakeholders to develop a series of screening measures, which we've updated over the years, and we're able to use very effectively during this event. "In this particular event, the nature of the munitions was different than what I experienced at Balad or in other locations. "So if you're familiar – and many of you have been down-range over the last 15 or 20 years – you know, we had small munitions; we had small rockets that would hit bases. Balad used to be called "Mortaritaville." There’d be the frequent attacks on the base. "And they were obviously dangerous, but very different than what happened at Al Asad, when theater ballistic missiles landed. "Why is that important? "The magnitude, or the size of the munition, certainly creates a different exposure for the service members who are in the area of the blast. And that's something that I'll come back to several times in my comments here." ... "And then the other mandatory reporting criteria are "a direct blow to the head," which in this case didn't happen, fortunately, and somewhat surprisingly, given the magnitude of the attack." ... "And if you're 18 or 19 or 20 years old, even though we've trained everybody who deploys down-range on what to look for, it's quite common that we'll have folks who will say, you know, 'I just was blasted; of course I'm not going to feel quite right, I'm going to ride this out for a few days,' or 'I'm going to wait and see if this gets better.' And then they come in, several days or weeks after the fact." ... "BRIG. GEN. FRIEDRICHS: Yes. "Q: Okay. That's the clarification. "And then can you talk a little bit about either, you know, the – the physics of the – of how the physics of the ballistic missile impact, you know, medically or biologically impact differently? You know, why this attack – any more details in why this attack, the ballistic missile strikes would have been different from the rocket or mortar attacks that you were citing as, you know, the common occurrences (inaudible) – "BRIG. GEN. FRIEDRICHS: Yeah, it's the size of the munition. It – you know, it's just the – "Q: What does that do to the brain specifically? Can you just talk about that? "BRIG. GEN. FRIEDRICHS: So if – I'll – I'm going to try using an analogy which may be helpful. You know, firecrackers on the Fourth of July – you've got a small firecracker that has a small blast, goes off for a short period of time; much larger firecracker, larger blast, goes off for a longer period of time. The larger munition – the larger the munition, the larger the blast that's created, the more effect there will be on the human body. And the brain is, you know, an extraordinary part of our body and it's – our body is designed to protect the brain quite a bit. It sits inside the skull. It is surrounded by fluid to help cushion it as you're moving. It – if you have a large blast, that larger blast will have a greater impact on the brain than a smaller blast will, and that's the point that I was trying to make. "Q: But what does it do to the brain? Could you just spell it out so we can convey that to our – our readers? "BRIG. GEN. FRIEDRICHS: Yeah, so it can do a variety of things. The most obvious one is if it actually causes an immediate bruise to the brain itself, and, you know, sometimes that can cause bleeding within the skull, or an – an injury that usually is going to be readily apparent. Other times, it can cause injury at the microscopic level, not as readily apparent, where individual nerves are damaged or torn, sometimes called shearing. And if you can picture a nerve that kind of gets pulled by the blast effect, that's something that is harder to see on imaging studies and – but still, a very real damage within the individual nerves that are damaged there, going forward. "So it can be the spectrum of injury, from individual nerves being damaged to larger areas of the brain being damaged. In this case, we really did not see people with significant injuries where large areas of the brain were damaged, which I think, you know, again, is good news. It – it shows that as we've improved our protective equipment over time, it is much more effective than what was available in years past, especially with a blast like this. "But, some of this injury is not going to be readily apparent until you get down to the microscopic level and can see it there, and that's why these evaluations and things like MRIs are – are very valuable."

  28. What I would like to seperate is quality of writing vs. over-arching narrative. I would agree that "story" of the Deadfire isn't very good - but writing - actual work done by writers under constrains and directions given to them is pretty darn good. You can't blame writers on lack of development, or engaging direction, because it is not something that game supports structually. Deadfire presents the lore and setting in an excellent way - it explores factions role and impact on the Deadfire, explores further God's and their relations with mortals. You get to know and understand Huana culture and history in an engaging way. But none of it is "story". That's I think, the impact of Josh being directly involved in molding overarching narrative. He is a great lead, with a special appreciation for history and culture, which made PoE world detailed, believable and engaging. But Deadfire is a history/culture lesson, rather then a story or adventure.

  30. Also a consequence of US and EU foreign policies. Libya, when it was the most prosperous, progressive country in Africa and Qaddafi was in charge, used to be the gatekeeper that blocked/prevented African migrants from passing through into Europe. Then America and the NATO invaded, destabilized and destroyed Libya, (which is now ruled by brutal warlords and has open slave markets;) now the floodgate is wide open, and African migrants can pass through Libya into Europe. We have a word for that kind of scenario. It is called KARMA. Yes, IMO African and Middle Eastern migrant crises will destroy Europe -- or, at the very least, fundamentally transform the cultures and demographics in Europe. However, can't say I feel sorry for White Europeans... they brought the karma upon themselves. Sure, it has always been America leading the charge in invading, occupying, destabilizing and destroying countries of brown people, but then the NATO and Europeans have always been there every step of the way. 31. About Mage Slayer : First I have a problem with Fire Pokemon subclasses : a Fire Pokemon subclass is a subclass that is good at killing Ice Pokemon, just because of the Fire and Ice Keyword. Debonaires are a bit this way vs Kith (even if they have some bonuses that work vs everything), but that's the reason why I'm suggestion to make their Charm universal (at the cost of half duration). Mage Slayers are really a Fire Pokemon subclass : they are good vs Spell casters and... that's it. Furthermore, their Resistance make friendly fail randomly... and to be honnest, most people don't like random abilities, especially when it could block Healing spells. What I have in mind is simply replacing their resistance by : -25% Hostile effects duration (so it would be useful in much more situation, including Forbidden Fist buildsfor example) -25% Beneficial effects duration. This lower many effects, but is at least predictable. They would still have their signature spell disruption. Maybe it could be added to the effect of barbarian abilities (Leap, Shouts, etc... ) ?

"Mind if I look at your catch" The game warden asked as he looked in the bucket "I'm afraid these fish are out of season and under sized" the warden told the old man. "I'm going to have to place you under arrest" "Wait," said the old hillbilly. "I didn't catch these. They are my pet fish" "Pet fish?" Said the warden with a laugh "Sure" replied the old man. Every week I bring them to the lake to swim and exercise then call them back to the bucket and take them home." Not believing a word of it the game warden demanded the old man prove it. So they walked back to the lake together. When they reached the lake the old man dumped the fish back in, turned the bucket upside down and sat one it. After a few moments the game warden asked him "Aren't you going to call them back?" "Call what back" Asked the old hillbilly. "Your fish" said the game warden. "What fish?"

Protecting the weak and annoying... Cute flying vegetables! Cat people looking cute... Meh, who needs visibility when you can look cool instead?

  38. I wouldn't go that far, but it is Josh's particular sensibilities and interests which made PoE what it is. I would be interested in seeing what PoE under his full control would look like, and I would be interested in seeing what a new lead would do with the game - I did enjoy all three DLCs after all. What I am not terribly interested in, is a non-isometric PoE. The world doesn't have that much appeal to me, to automatically transfer my interest in PoE3 into another genre - it would need to sell me on the concept mostly from the ground up... that being said, being made by Obsidian is, for now, still a good start.

  39. You can usually color cloth parts, but not the metal parts of armor. Also certain unique armors (no matter the material) can't be colored if they don't use generic model parts.

  40. Biomutant in the final stages of development. I am still interested in this game.

  42. I'm sure he has developed a thick skin in his 20 years of game development, but some things just have too high penetration. Some recovery time is needed.

  43. I can only imagine the feeling of that punch in the gut: Divinity:OS sells well --> PoE sells well --> Divinity:OS II sells like hot cakes --> Josh expects the same for Deadfire --> Deadfire tanks (despite good critics). I mean that sure does hurt. It's like when I was young and doing websites for clients in my freetime and I would always include four designs: three that I really worked on and which i liked and a forth that was just trash cobbled together. And every time clients said: "Oh we like the forth one best!" Ouch...

  44. So does not listening to fans. In the end: devs just make crap games.

  45. You sing a chant. A chant is composed of one or more phrases (the things you pick on the passive/right side of the ability tree at level up). A chant loops. That means it starts with the first phrase you set in your songbook. Every phrase takes 6 seconds and then it's the next one until the last phrase is sung and the chart starts again. Phrases have a linger time of 3 seconds. That means that the effect of the phrase will keep working for 3 seconds although you stopped singing that phrase. Like an echo basically. Since the linger time is only half as long as the phrase time it's difficult to overlap two phrases so that their effects are always active without any gap. Linger time is influenced by INT. In order to keep two parallel phrase effects active without a gap you would need 6 seconds linger time - or in other words an INT score of 30 (3sec linger base*(1+20*0.05)=6). Chants do get paused: several afflictions like stun, paralyze etc. cause a pause of chanting. Also using an invocation will cause a chanting pause. This pause is not affected by anything (neither stat nor armor etc.). Chanters can compose several chants in their songbook and during encounter switch between those chants. There's a pause when switching chants. A Chanter starts combat with a filled phrase counter. The max phrases you can accumulate is determined by the invocation with the highest cost you have(!). So it can make total sense to pick a very costly invocation even though you don't plan to use it. Example: Skalds pay +1 phrases for non-offensive invocations. If a Skald picks a non-offensive invocation which usually costs 6 phrases to cast - and 7 for the Skald - he will set his max phrase counter to 7. He will then be able to collect up to 7 phrase points during combat and start combat with 7 phrase points(!). Not many players realize this since it's unintuitive and obscure. A Troubadour has the automatic effect that his linger is longer. He can easily have two parallel phrases going without any gap. With investment in INT even more. The downside is that his invocations are more costly (+1 phrases). His modal ability "Brisk Recitation" makes phrase time a lot shorter (3 sec instead of 6) and removes linger time completely. This means no parallel phrase effects whatsoever, but double the phrase point generation. It basically means you can switch the Troubadour from "passive phrase mode" into "active invocation mode" with that modal. A Bellower gets a Power Level bonus for his invocations based on the number of phrases he holds, but his chant radius is halved. A Skald works pretty much like a vanilla Chanter when it comes to chanting - but can get additional phrase points by doing melee crits. A Beckoner's chants/phrases are like vanilla Chanter's (even the skeleton summoning one).

  46. Um how is it bad writing? If the gods in Pillars of Eternity are different to what you think the gods should be, its not bad writing. The whole point of the first game is learning that the order of being your character lives in is one giant hoax created by power-hungry ancients from a civilization long gone. These gods are not really gods, they are synthetic beings created by that ancient race to rule over mortals, yet they still act like hypocritical children. The idea may not be extremely original, but calling it bad writing is unfair. Its different writing and different story, which has nothing to do with Greeks or Tolkien or whatever.
