Foksuh Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Apologies to anyone that has had to redownload the game. One thing to try if you get the error and you have the EmptySteamDepot folder might be to try and rename the EmptySteamDepot folder to PillarsofEternity_Data. It may work for you. I had the "There should be 'PillarsOfEternity_Data' folder next to the executable" error and I tried this fix and it worked fine. This happens if your steamgmes folder is not in it's default location. Yeah, shame I didn't think of trying it first. Ah well! Also, default location? My Steam is not installed on drive C:(with OS and the usual stuff, I installed it on my game drive right from the start so I suppose -that- might be causing it?) Still, weird, I've never encountered installation or patching issues prior to this.. I figured what Badler was asking before this meant that I had steam at one drive and some games on another.. but that's not the case either. Hmhm.

You have just made one loyal IE fan a happy man today, good sir. Now, if not too much to ask, can we have more sound sets and the 'annoyed' selection sounds in near future? 1 *throws smoke bombs in the thread and vanishes into the dark corners of the forums*
Luckmann Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Honestly though, when the developers themselves change the foundations of the characters, I see no reason why players shouldn't be allowed to do it themselves. Taking the change of Grieving Mother as an example, once you've settled that the attributes have no connection to the characterization of the CNPC:s, does it really matter whether it's the player or the developer doing the optimization? I would prefer it if we weren't in this situation at all, but Obsidian has settled for it, and thus it is very hard to argue against the player being able to freely re-assign every aspect of the CNPC:s with any degree of honesty. There's really no logical reason why the player shouldn't be allowed to make Edér a Intellect-based Wizard or make Kana a Dexterity-based flashmonster, at this point. Why would the visual representation be more important than the mechanical representation? Don't misunderstand me - I agree with you, on a fundamental level, but at this point, why would it matter to you what the portraits look like, just because they once fitted the characters? And yes, why not dialogue and personalities? It would be much harder to do, unreasonably so, but there's still a point to be made; why not? Do you really believe that with the current attribute system you can mechanically represent the characteristics of a companion? In a game where the best wizard is a world-class weightlifter and acrobat and the best tank is a wimpy oaf with a keen eyesight and unwavering determination. In every RPG system attributes are an abstraction, but in PoE it's an abstraction of an abstraction. It's beyond silly. In other games, even when the system offers me a totally useless dump stat, I don't go to very low range due to RP reasons. But the way PoE is setup... well, I have no qualms when I see those 3s. You're confusing the mechanical aspects with the foundations of what each attribute is meant to represent. The fact that what you describe is true is practically the entire issue. It is why the attributes needs to be fixed, rather than the CNPC:s compromised, because for good or ill, Aloth shouldn't have a Might of 18 just to be a good wizard, because it doesn't make sense for him to have that. The same goes for Grieving Mother switching her Perception 17 and Intellect 12 around. Why did they do that? Because Perception 17 is useless for a Cipher, and they don't want her to be useless. So no, the current attribute system cannot adequately represent the characteristics of a companion without the companion sucking dog buns. The sad thing is that this is also true for players. Forget about playing a perceptive or resolute wizard. But that's completely beside the point, my point being that under this current system, when the developers themselves have admitted defeat and have already broken the connection between mechanics and characterization, what possible argument could there reasonably be as to oppose the full respec of CNPC:s? If the Attributes do not matter for the characters after all, why do we stick to the notion that there's a necessary connection? Why shouldn't Aloth have a Might of 18, if the Attributes does not matter? What is the difference between switching the Perception and Intellect of Grieving Mother, and switching the (pre-1.03) Perception and Might of Aloth? None. There is no reasonable argument, on the foundation that we now stand, against full free respecs of the CNPC:s in the game. Edited May 8, 2015 by Luckmann
Baladas Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Is the fix below confirmed? Dinky Dino, on 07 May 2015 - 03:55 AM, said: Would any of you guys know if the bug that increased spell count permanently on members not in the active party when transitioning from certain areas was fixed in this patch? No, I mean if you have created a separat place for you steam games. Its not the drive, its where the steam apps / games are kept. Yours are in the "Steam Library" in the Program files x86 right? Or at least in the original Steam folder. Mine are in C:\ Steam Games. I moved them from the Steam Library location so I could install mods for System Shock 2.
EvilCalvin42 Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Have they addressed any of the crashing bugs when transitioning? It is really a pain when you spend a hour going through and area and clearing out the enemies and then go to a new area and it crashes to desktop. If I forgot to save then I lose all of that progress. I've seen many people with this same issue. What is going on with that and I thought that was to be addressed in this patch.

Eventually, I told Steam to install a game onto a separate drive, ... and E:\SteamLibrary\ is what that resulted in for Icewind Dale EE and Pillars of Eternity.

Boroda Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Hi. After update to 1.05 on steam, have broken quest "The Hermit of Hadret House" I've save just before to join to the The Knights of the Crucible. I went to the Crucible Keep, accept the Knights side, then go to Lady Webb, but she can't send me as knights representative. Just "I have burned all bridges..." It's possible to move forward, but... it's definetely a bug
SparocheeDoom Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 Were there any addition changes that were not listed in the 1.05 beta patch preview? It also seems like this patch made the game easier, something that shouldn't have been done IMHO. Once you figure it out, it becomes easy on Normal mode, but Hard mode is still too hard for me.
abaris Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 ^I got the impression that was only when they first join the party - can choose to start them from level 1. I didn't think it was 'respec anytime' - can anyone confirm? You have to deactivate autolevel companions in the difficulty setting of the menus. Otherwise, no dice. So make sure to deactivate before picking up even one of them. 1

Rangoon Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 People want to change the class, attributes, portraits of the premade NPCs. Next they'll also want to change their names, too. Actually, that might be fun... All of those things are important, yes, but I would argue the portrait is the least important to adhere to. Class, attributes, names, dialogue, voice, and in-game image are all tied to the story. But the portraits seem to me irrelevent in those terms. The companions have their in-game (isometric) image. The portraits don't affect gameplay, wouldn't modify dialogue, wouldn't impact the story, or the background of the character, their reason for being there or their personality traits, skills, strengths, weaknesses. It's just a portrait with which to identify and click in the UI. Same as for all of the other characters, for whom we can change portraits. Multiquote isn't working for me at the moment (just stacking a bunch of quotes rather than actually multiquoting) so forgive the double- and triple-post. How is it not important to adhere to? The companion portraits are the visual represetations of the characters meticulously created by Obsidian for the purposes of the story. Would you ask for options to change their dialogue or personalities to suit your tastes as well? YOUR character and the custom characters YOU create are a different matter entirely. I didn't say not important. I said least important. And I thought I already made it pretty clear that I wouldn't ask "to change their dialogue or personalities to suit [my] tastes as well". Likewise, I'm not asking to change their 3D image, which in my opinion is much more representative of who they are than their portrait. Yet as indicated in other posts, it sounds like now the manual method of replacing portraits is working for companions (it wasn't when I tried it with Calisca). If that's true, it's not a big deal. Just seems odd they wouldn't support this new feature across the board with all characters who can comprise your party.
rheingold Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 Hi guys, thanks for the patch. Not sure if anyone has reported this but the latest patch seems to have broken chanters. Kana stops chanting for no apparent reason. I think it is related to the new cool down effect on modals. Simply put I cannot get him to chant at all, if I'm lucky he will do it once then the modal goes into cool down mode and switches off. I then have to switch it back on only to repeat the cycle again. It's kinda a biggie for the class, because chanters who don't chant are, well not really chanters. "Those who look upon gods then say, without even knowing their names, 'He is Fire. She is Dance. He is Destruction. She is Love.' So, to reply to your statement, they do not call themselves gods. Everyone else does, though, everyone who beholds them.""So they play that on their fascist banjos, eh?""You choose the wrong adjective.""You've already used up all the others.” Lord of Light
Starwars Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I had a problem with Kana even prior to the patch where, each time combat started, his chanting would *stop* even if it was activated prior to that. And then, sometimes it works as it should. I'm not sure how to reproduce it. But yeah, something weird is going on with the chanting it seems. Night Stalker Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Hi Guys, "everyone" is talking about a 1,6GB Patch, I have the GOG-Version and its only 96MB, Can someone elaborate? Steam uses a different patching method than GOG.com - I think Steam replaces all the files affected, whereas GoG.com provides a program that makes the affected files into the new patched files. Since the GOG.com version only contains the difference, plus an overhead for the program, its patches are usually smaller than the Steam patches.
TheRuggernaut Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 I apologize if this has been posted before... This is my first time on forums. I'm having major difficulties in starting a new game -- the beginning cutscene is mostly white and blocky; I can't proceed past it. I'm on Windows 8, with a decent system and have had Norton check over my entire disk. I can play normally with my saved files, but not start a new one -- why?

Removed all and remade my first, didn't help. Upon reloading a second slot of the same song showed, once I removed that, and for thoroughness remade A the issue was resolved and he used chanting in combat properly again. ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created.
