  1. Not so bad news for a change. Antivaxxer brother-in-law's test result looks like a false positive*. He's been on a pretty strict testing regiment in the past weeks because of his work, so all his prior testing results before the one on Sunday were negative, and two separate PCR tests since Sunday (one on Tuesday, and one on Thursday) came back negative, including the official quarantine confirmation test. That's going to be some hassle later because he's paranoid as hell and probably thinks the government/state/deep state/illuminati/aliens have it out for him, but eh... at least there's a chance that he didn't infect his high risk patient sister during an absolutely unnecessary family outing. *Not necessarily a false positive, if you test with a ct-value of >30 then you're still quarantined until confirmation, although that can just as well mean you've successfully fought off infection after exposure, but given incubation times and him not being vaccinated, that... yeah. Shucks.

  2. That's my first playthrough done. Thoughts are still percolating but can contribute a few points. I rather like the narrative directions Owlcat takes with its main villains (Nyrissa for Kingmaker, Areelu Vorlesh for WotR) and I admire them for expanding them well beyond the one-dimensional baddies they were in the original Adventure Paths (a friend of mine will be participating in a Kingmaker campaign once its 2nd Edition iteration finally comes, and as he was already aware of the secret ending for the Owlcat cRPG I asked him if there was a certain Seduction check he will attempt). I'm enticed by an Azata playthrough as it seems to be the most well received narratively speaking, and it helps that my Pathfinder PC and the characters I played in Kingmaker and WotR are followers of Desna, though I've decided for a few more patches before I come back to WoTR (or probably when the first major story DLC comes out) as from what forum members here have said many mechanics for the Azata path remain borked. Hot tips for those wanting to do a Trickster playthrough in the future. Max out your Persuasion on every level-up and take Persuasion Trick 2, which Paralyzes creatures that fail a Will check DC your ranks of Persuasion +10 and Shakens those that succeed. Next, pick up the Ring of Boreal Might and slap it on your go-to spontaneous caster. As the Paralyze status reduces a creature's Dexterity to 1 (one) the stat drain from Polar Ray will guarantee one-shot a Paralyzed enemy (incredibly the Vavakia Vanguard rolled a 1 for the Will check, and Ember was able to one-shot his first stage with this method, and even Balors failing this check aren't wholly uncommon). Be advised that this ability is slightly bugged in that in some saves the Paralyze status can be inflicted on some of your own party members at the start of combat. Mobility Tricks for a melee-based Rogue are also hilarious, as you can simply micro your MC around crowds of dudes to blender them with AoOs (get Mythic Vital Strike to finish off your turn). Postcript: I got a chuckle out of this image floating around:

  4. Yes, and you can prolonge the process because the spell is considered like a beneficial effect. I m going to test some thinks : if effect is cleared when combat is over, and if other party members who are affected will proc inspiration on the priest when the shock trigger. Not useful for soloing with vela but like you said it is interesting! Edit : The effect is cleared when the fight is over, so it is not a great think for the ultimate.. Edit 2 : Even out of enemies range, the spell proc periodically inspirations, so a skaen priest will be able to buff itself like usual Ultimate way with tiers 3 inspirations. Note that with a regular party the priest dont need to cast the spell into itself to have the least unstable coil triggering effect. Every 3sec the ability trigger, and independently of enemies hurted or who benefit from the aura, the priest will be granted of inspirations!

  5. Reading on the codex forum and on the web, it seems Josh Sawyer small team is developing "Pentiment", a rpg non-violent like Disco Elysium, set in the XVI century in Europe. https://www.windowscentral.com/new-upcoming-xbox-exclusives-project-midnight-compulsion-and-pentiment-obsidian I'm spanish, and I like a lot to read XVI century history books, so I'm very interested in this new project. What do you think?

  12. Yeah, to be honest, I just complained about the bill because I'm a regular miser who agonizes over everything. The only things I regularily buy without thinking too much are silly tech gadgets and games. I sit here complaining about having to buy a new boiler but I do have a 300€ floating lava rock here that serves absolutely no purpose. Except for floating. It's supposedly stable enough to hold a bonsai tree, but I'm not going to try that, and one power outage is liable to produce quite a mess when it comes tumbling down. Still fun to look at though. Really powerful magnetic field too. Looks like this, except with a lava stone: I could power an electric tankless heater or my electric oven, but certainly not both at once.

  14. I have a hard time explaining it because the parallels I could draw would perhaps raise undue expectations. So far, it's a sci-fi version of the Sailor Stars filler arc, just with a teambuilding and training part attached to it. That's not entirely correct because the first episode of the filler arc, and part of the second at least still had more slice of life elements than this. Sure, the team goes to the mess to eat and talk, they bond, spend some time in the bunk or relaxing outside, but that's here and there - and even all of that is spent on the Space Cop compound. The characters also aren't nearly as well defined as the main cast of Sailor Moon was at the time of the arc - that was some 166 episodes into the series after all. The animation isn't good enough to give the action the more visceral feel it would need to become really entertaining, but at least I'm not 100% certain that everyone is going to pull through, so it feels as if something is at stake. Storywise they're trying to apprehend a criminal conducting some illegal research for so far unknown purposes. He sure looks more like a villain than the villains of the past two season (save for Fate's mother, but she was looking for a way to revive her lost daughter, not to destroy the world or summon Pharao 90, or something). Time to watch some more, maybe they'll just mess it up. That would make it easier to talk about.

  16. Also of interesting note: Amar Chadha-Patel was actually cast as Lord Agelmar in Wheel of Time and had done all of his scenes for first season, but he's left for one of the key roles in Willow. So WoT have decided to rename his character for the first season (to Lord Yakata), and introduce a brand new Agelmar from season 2 onwards.

  23. They use teenagers. The reason is, that the main demographics, which is purchasing the games in Japan are teenagers. And for that reason a lot of companies think, that old people are not as popular among these demographics. You can read little bit more about Nier release on PS3, by Square Enix, which they released two editions in Japan, because they were afraid that no one would buy the game where a main protagonist is as old fart as you and me

  24. Yeah, that one. And there are three more: Devastating Blow is amazing for building focus. If you use guile for Trickster spells, then you are going to benefit less from that While you are casting Trickster spells, your cipher side is idling and doing nothing Meanwhile SC Beguiler has a nice synergy between Shared Nightmare (+1% AoE per Focus) and Beguiler passive itself and also AoE/Cone weapons. Also I would expect a good tandem between ranged SC Beguiler and melee Trickster/Tactician. Ryngrim's Repulsive Visage + Phantom Foes is a nice combo.

  27. This is a wild guess, but something like a castable ability (using an attack with a very long custom CastSpeed to make it "channel"?) together with a passive ability with ActivationPrerequisites/DeactivationPrerequisites utilizing the IsCastingAbility conditional? IsCastingAbility 7d150000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 <CastableAbilityID> With this the passive ability should trigger while the castable ability is being "channeled".

  28. As a SC priest, you can get infinite least unstable coil triggering effect at level 16 because of Spark the Souls of the Righteous. The ability is Combat only so I don't know if you can keep this out of battle (I never used the Berath challenge ),well you can extend the duration of the inspirations however. The Ultimate challenge suffer of the lack of immunity items to protect them (inspirations) so if the spell stay out of combat as benefecial effect, you could eventually restore any inspiration wich was counter by affliction (and then remove affliction periodically) in contact of hostile guy. Dont know if that is useful for the challenge.

  29. spontaneous casters get all the good stuff. is one reason why our second choice for azata were gonna be an oracle, but the blackened curse was (is?) bugged. nevertheless, there is a ring which allows you to cast all the best offensive fire spells... if you are a spontaneous caster. there is also bracers which allow you to cast all the best electricity spells... if you are a spontaneous caster. the fire spell ring is available kinda earlyish, and the bracers is chapter three in what were a difficult area before recent patches. am actual going hard for ice spells with our current (extreme slow) azata sorcerer run as the feyspeaker we were envisioning and shadow spells in general is busted at the moment resulting in a fubar intended concept... and as we noted, oracle weren't working neither, though am admitting oracle woulda' been fine even w/o blackened. therefore am going with our third choice which is the not the least bit unique sorc/arcane trickster. also, am taking one level o' crossblood sorcerer (silver dragon and water) for sosiel which sounds odd, but there is an azata spell which makes foes vulnerable to cold, so sosiel with the white dragon armour and the relic shield which buffs ice spells is actual decent as more than a dedicated healbot and buffer late game. the white dragon armour woulda' been perfect for our druid build, but oh well. while am not the aivu fan some people appear to be, azata does a fair job with providing whimsical and good options. there is a few azata path relevant characters and quests which we wish woulda' been better developed, but relative speaking the highpoints for azata is solid compared to the other wotr options. additional, am thinking part o' the reason why azata gets general approval is in part due to the wotr alignment system, as curious as such sounds. an angel character who selects "good" every single dialog is gonna shift to neutral good and away from lawful, so you frequent choose the lawful choice. wotr lawful is functional, "what would regill do in this situation?" paladin makes the good choice every time and falls from grace. is also nothing particular clever or surprising with angel-- is by the numbers heroic fantasy stuff. the evil mythic paths suffer from the usual crpg problem regarding the need to make evil options insular. oh sure, bill gates may be as evil as they come, but is not as if he kicks puppies whenever he gets the chance. crpg evil is usual a bit cartoonish and wotr is hardly providing a creative or unique approach to crpg evil. azata is nothing special, but it don't punish you for playing your character and it has a handful o' genuine chuckleworthy moments. HA! Good Fun! is ~2:00am pst and am getting a 2.4gb update, but not patch notes are available via steam or owlcat at this time.

  33. Been playing Ys 9. I love the Ys series, though not as much as I do Falcom's other flagship series The Legend of Heroes. There's got to be 3 or 4x as much story in Ys 9 as there was in 8. There's a lot of cut scenes, for an Ys game. I like the characters but I feel like the twist is very obvious. The gameplay is the best in the series with new slick traversal mechanics like teleportation, wall running, and gliding and a decent size new city hub to use them in. Even so, some of the flying enemies are annoying. So far my favorite Ys game to date.

Ok barely any of these encounters were actually implemented in the game... besides Talfor only three other, all related to The Last Sanctuary: RE_Wahaki_Huana_Ruins: The Wahaki you meet on the beach on the way to Motare o Kōzi. (Embēta is Lv9 and the rest are Lv8.) RE_RDC_Huana_Ruins and RE_RDC_Pai: Both related to the encounter with Captian Pai after sailing away from Motare o Kōzi. (Pai is Lv9 and the crew is Lv8.) These three encounters should imo be set to Lv 8 to match the level of the quest. This should fix these encounters:

  37. The different components of GM also correspond to different keywords, so the +1 pen talents don't apply to all components of GM. Probably relatively well known, but enemies don't drop their weapons if they're equipping a summoned weapon. This is mostly an issue with Katrenn and Eccea, be careful not to kill them while they have summoned weapons out.

  38. we never commented on the law aspect o' this 'cause, as we always caution, what you don't know has an excellent chance o' making you look like an idjit if you start drawing conclusions based on what you believe to be true. you folks is no doubt bored o' our repetition on this point, but am gonna once again observe how is always best to wait for facts to come out which may be relevant. however, if a seventeen-year-old illegal acquires a lethal weapon and crosses state lines with the implied (and expressed) intent o' confronting protesters, some o' whom he had to have known could also be armed with lethal weapons, is anybody shocked when the news related to such a story is gonna involve bloodshed? call accident or tragedy ignores how utter predictable is calamity when you add firearms, multiple angry people and a large dose o' stupid. for chrissakes, even @Guard Dog wasn't defending the common sense and reasonableness o' kyle rittenhouse. were never any facts which were gonna come to light which somehow dispelled the recklessness o' kyle rittenhouse. were no facts which revealed were gonna make us more sympathetic save possible discovering kyle were severe mental/emotional impaired and responsible adults encouraged his behaviour as 'posed to discouraged, but that were never the narrative. doesn't matter if the would-be vigilante is guilty or innocent as a matter o' law. the kid is an a-hole who displayed worst possible judgement. is another observation we make frequent regarding people confusing legal with concepts such as moral, justice or right. legal exoneration is not transformative. a bad person does not sudden become admirable 'cause o' an acquittal. less common but still possible is for the moral and right choice to lead to legal punishment. too many people is invested in court verdicts as if such is some kinda barometer o' rightness. bad cop going to prison proves he were bad? if kyle goes free it proves the libs were wrong 'bout the unnecessary dangers o' armed civilian militias confronting protesters? we were never interested in this case 'cause it didn't matter to us. we didn't need for kyle to go to prison as if such would be vindication o' protests. samewise we don't fear acquittal will make mr. rittenhouse less... douchey. seeing as how there is no particular unique or compelling question o' law involved in the case, am current disinterested save for our general disquiet regarding how a derpy punk could become symbolic or emblematic o' a political movement. HA! Good Fun!

  39. Many Wizard spells already have quite high base damage and scale well too, which means you'll do significant damage even with flat MIG. You also get combusting wounds, an amazing spell, which significantly amplifies your damage when used skillfully. So for wizards, unlike some other classes, high MIG really isn't necessary IMO.

  40. And investing on PER will also boost indirectly your spell damages (even if less so) while not hurting you and buffing your CC spells. DEX is very flexible and kind of good for any limitless ressource classes.

  41. My only major complaint with Deadfire after sinking 76 hours into it is the presence of enemies with Immunity to Common Damage Types (Piercing/Slashing/Crushing) and its impact on the gameplay experience. Now, before I get into it, I want to say that I can understand and appreciate Elemental Immunities - typically the only sources of pure elemental damage are spells, and usually if you're running into enemies with elemental immunities you can just cast a different spell. But outright resistance to the Common Damage Types sets my teeth on edge because it produces particularly strange logic in several cases. For example, Skeletal Warriors (and other Skeletal [Class] enemies) are immune to Piercing damage. I can see the logic behind it: Skeletons are not known for having a lot of squishy parts. They're entirely bones and empty spaces, so it makes sense that weapons that rely on piercing fleshy parts to damage organs would have a tough time against them. - Figure A: Skeleton Lectures Peasant On Why Gut Stabs Aren't Great Without A Gut To Stab - However, just because a Piercing weapon primarily relies on touching things that shouldn't be touched to deal its damage doesn't mean that it would be useless: there's still significant force being exerted by the impact, even if effective impact locations are harder to come by. In this case, a high resistance to the damage type in question makes sense, but outright immunity doesn't - regardless of how wiggly and wily a Skeleton may be, a bullet or spear in the right place will still shatter bone. - Figure B: Skeleton Politely Requests Peasant Not Move Pitchfork To Avoid Snapping Spine - Things get even weirder when you factor in Bows. For some reason, War Bows and Hunting Bows were changed from Piercing to Best Of Slash/Pierce. As a result, Skeletons are immune to bullets and bolts, but still very much vulnerable to arrows (even though Slashing primarily relies on cutting, which... Skeletons don't have anything to cut!). - Figure C: Skeleton Loudly Disregards Local Constabulary's Firearms, But States Respect And Fear Of Bowmen - Nitpicking the logic behind it aside, the actual gameplay feel behind common damage immunities is just awful. There's no tactical depth to it: solving the problem is as easy as pulling out a backup - a Scepter or a Rod or a Sword or a Hammer - and it's just annoying. There's no huge additional challenge to dealing with enemies with these immunities, I'm just mildly inconvenienced while my characters use a slightly less optimal weapon so they can actually participate instead of complaining about how their weapon isn't working. Elemental or Spell immunities change the tactics you use because the majority of the spells in the game have unique effects and casting times and AOEs and what have you, but Common Damage Immunities just require you to use a different kind of stick. - Figure D: Bored Skeleton Suggests That Poster Find Better, Funnier Gimmick - Now, Skeletons are just an example of enemies with Common Damage Immunities, but they're probably the best indicator of why these immunities are simply annoying instead of challenging. Very rarely, if ever, do enemies with Common Damage Immunities pose a significant threat because of their immunities. I would much rather see enemies with Immunity to Common Damage Types be given high resistance instead (for example, 20 or 30 at least) so that they still retain their logical defenses against such damage types. This would encourage the player to switch damage types to better handle the situation but not require it. Continuing to use the resisted damage type would still be sub-optimal, but not so much that the experience becomes frustrating or immersion-breaking. - Figure E: Local Skeleton Seeks Flaming Sword To Cuddle, Direct Inquires To Old City Caves Under Neketaka - Overall, I've had a blast with Deadfire and have adored my time spent playing it. This whole Common Damage Immunity thing is literally the only thing I see as a flaw and I desperately want to see it changed, but I also understand if Obsidian chooses not to. If they don't, well... there's always modding, and it's not like I'm going to suddenly start hating Deadfire over something minor like this. Anyways, thank you for reading, and I hope you have a nice day.
