Dude, once you move out of the starting area into the mainstay dungeons, D2 looks like this. What has a strange color palette? Plus, as you can see D3 still uses vignetting (which you refer to as light radius) and uses it pretty much all game except for heaven in act 4, while D2 actually only uses in select zones. You need to go back and actually play D2. Now if you were using D1 as an example I'd buy it. That game was a lot darker aesthetically. D3 gets this accusation for some reason, but D2 was actually when Blizzard's oversaturated color palette hit the series with a bat. The terrible lava tiles were as bright as that first game got. Why are they going to make D4 "more dark"? Because people bitched at D3 constantly while not knowing what they were talking about. It's lip service, it's not actually going to be darker.4 points

I have been enjoying the game a lot but i hit a soft lock on one of the main quests. The quest is called "Radio Free Monarch", the step i'm on is "Speak with Nyoka at Stellar Bay". The issue that I'm having is that I talked to her and went through her dialogue and she told me to get her some Caffenoid. So I got all the way through the dialogue and i told her i'd get it for her but the quest step didn't change and even figuring out where the caffenoid was and stealing it didn't progress the quest either. I also only have one option now when i speak with her. "Actually - nevermind. I'll catch you later. (Leave Conversation) Is there any way someone could help me out or possibly fix this issue. I am enjoying this game so much and would hate for people to not like it because of a game breaking bug like this. Thanks in advance. Edit 1: I think i figured out the problem. When you go through Nyokas dialogue, at the end you get two options. One is to agree with her request and get the Caffenoid. The other is to say that you'll consider it. Both options make you leave the conversation immediately after choosing the option. If you choose the second option where you say you'll consider it, the quest doesn't progress obviously because you didn't agree to help her. But when you try to talk with her again there is no dialogue option to say that you've changed you're mind and have decided to help her. So in order to fix this they would just need to add an option that lets you agree to help her after you choose the "I'll consider it" option the first time you talk to her. So if anyone from the dev team sees this please fix this. Thanks in advance, again.2 points

gonna state an unpopular view... hate to say this, but perhaps for the first time in forever, we agreed with putin 'bout something. though am not in-line with putin regarding the climate issue, am kinda simpatico concerning his lack o' fascination for greta. ms. thunberg is the freaking kim kardashian o' the climate cause. greta is famous for being famous. kim has a large caboose and greta has asperger's and selective mutism. she is the kid o' rich parents, rich enough that they could voluntarily give up their careers to get in line with greta's demands for reducing the family carbon footprint? greta is not particular knowledgeable 'bout climate science. she is not noteworthy eloquent. she is not reasonable... which is a good thing. young people should not need be reasonable. young folks should push and challenge and rage 'gainst arguments made by old people pointing out practicality. the thing is, while greta being unreasonable is a positive in our mind, it ain't particular special or unique. as a teacher o' youth, hurl can speak to just how ordinary is teen unreason. the participation trophy generation made greta famous for being the kid who refuses to be reasonable. *shrug* as for the story itself, we will note greta were nominated for the nobel peace prize and were a serious contender for winning. she didn't. thank god there is no nobel participation prize. again, am in favor o' greta using her celebrity to advocate for changes to individual and national behaviours in an attempt to prevent cataclysmic climate change. am nevertheless annoyed by the participation trophy generation who chose greta to be the face o' a movement. is literal thousands o' brilliant scientists and scholars who has been advocating for environmental causes longer than greta has been alive, but what those folks didn't know is if they wanted to get the attention o' the millennial crowd, they needed be a rich kid with impulse control issues. greta not having done anything is ok for for participation trophy folks who learned that what matters is being in the game and not who scored most or who won. what matter is greta is... participating? oh, and being chosen isn't greta's fault, so am not belittling her. HA! Good Fun!2 points

Yearly. Fifteen years ago I was a design engineer for a cell service provider in FL. Short name, blue logo. I was talking to a guy who had a tower on his land and was negotiating a lease renewal. The company he was working with (wasn't us) was threatening the move off the tower if he didn't come off his asking price. The tower was on a long stretch of highway between Indiantown and Okeechobee FL. I asked him "How many other towers are there on the highway between the two towns?" He replied "None that I know of". I told him he was right. None. I believe he got his asking price.2 points

A majority of US college students surveyed want punishment for "offensive" Halloween costumes: https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=13923 Absolutely. Do you think expulsion would be enough? No, better execute them. That way you can be sure they will never be politically incorrect again.2 points

Here's the HLTB scores for each Obsidian game: Star Wars: Nights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords: 30-51 hours Neverwinter Nights 2: 59-114 hours Alpha Protocol: 13-25 hours Fallout: New Vegas: 27-132 hours Dungeon Siege III: 14-26 hours South Park: The Stick of Truth: 11-19 hours Pillars of Eternity: 35-99 hours Tyranny: 20-42 hours Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire: 40-76 hours The Outer Worlds: 10-28 hours Obsidian do seem to alternate between mid-length and long games based on the above, yet it's arguable that the games they're best known for tend to be the longer ones (i.e. Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity, Neverwinter Nights 2, with KOTOR 2 being the outlier) so perception tends to skew towards those as the norm for them. In truth, it seems The Outer Worlds is no shorter than other games they've made like The Stick of Truth or Alpha Protocol, though it is quite a ways shorter than the two it's regularly compared to from their catalogue. That said, I reckon I'm about 40% of the way through the game and I've so far player for 22 hours myself. I do recognize I tend to be *very* lax in my playthroughs however. Still, your mileage may vary.2 points

Simply put, I think that the Foundation main quest (working with the Board to release the automechanicals) should have had more options. It's basically just go in, turn them on, town dead... or just ignore the quest. We should have had an option to try and reprogram them, so that the bots either just destroy each other (without hurting the town), or reprogram them to be proper guard units for the town (and thus make it more secure) or at the very least to just find the bots and blow them up without activating them (maybe having them all turn on once you attack one and have to fight a swarm of them). But ONLY being able to destroy the town seems like a let down. I was expecting a lot more from this quest. After all, if you don't accept it, you're forced to fight the woman and all the guards (and the secretary, who really should have just hid in a corner). So it would make sense to be able to agree to doing the mission, but then betray her once you get there.1 point

First off cheers on a well rounded product, worked out of the box so to speak and engaging. I spent 10 minutes looking at the front end screen, reminded me of a space program I watched as a child when my Father bought our first television, Space 1999. I never spend time looking at the front screen. Secondly a big cheers to the music department the oboes? followed by what I like to call a little bit of James Bond's "GoldFinger". I never listen to music in any game. You could milk this for years releasing chapters, new factions, robust crafting etc. This could be the last game I ever buy Quality of life suggestions: * Toggle aim. * Custom map markers. * Headlamp/Flashlight. * Telescope/binoculars. * Raise jump by 5% ? * Raise first person height by 5%? * Toggle aim. * Toolbar/hotbar for consumables, and for all the crafting consumables to come. Again cheers great product, Champlain.1 point

So, While I'm playing the game the game with crash to desktop, no warning or notification of the crash the game will just close and I have to relaunch the game. I am running the game through the Epic Games Store. My specs are: CPU: Ryzen 7 1700X OCed to 3.8Ghz GPU: 2x RX 580 8Gbs OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit RAM: 32Gbs of 3200Mhz I close all applications before starting the game just to make sure nothing is running in the background but it still crashes randomly, I'm not getting crashes in the same exact places either, they appear to be random.1 point

No definately not playing the same game. The game I'm playing is a deep Dungeons & dragons table top influenced game. With so many morale and gameplay choices. Fantastic writing and great character and companion interaction. Some of the best dialogue this generation. And so much to do I've still not even explored all of Terra 2 yet. Hahahaha. Yeah easily gonna be 100 hours on 2 playthrough.1 point

About finishing/replaying a game: there might be different factors at play: - time available: you want to finish but time is scarce so you push through the crit path. - hook: you can like a game but it doesn't hook you like other games do or did. My best examples: Into the Breach and Druidstone. I like both games but didn't really finish - while I played the heck out of FTL and stuff like PoE or even Blackguards (which might be a better comparison to Druidstone - it's a worse game but it still kept me playing). - personal taste: sometimes even the graphics style pits me off - although I try to overlook that. This works well in some games (Slay the Spire, Avernum) while I can't get over it with others (Fell Seal or D:OS). - "vibe": I mean some games are just so weirdly mesmerizing that you can't stop (Hotline Miami) even if you don't like the genre in the first place. Probably also has something to do with the music. - age: don't know why, just have a feeling that it might be a thing, right?1 point

Just finished the game at a slow pace, clocking in at 50 hours. I was definitely happy with the length of the game - no sense in padding an RPG with an exhaustingly unnecessary length. It also demands at least one replay, if not more.1 point

No obvious error messages. Have definitely tried all the various graphics settings including fullscreen, windowed, etc. Still can't play the damn game. I've long been an Obsidian fan but not even being able to get through the opening sequence without crashing on a perfectly clean install is just too much.1 point

Up to the right of your health bar is where buffs/debuffs are shown, I do agree they are very small and I constantly have to bring up the entry in the codex to decipher what they mean. With buffs I can just look at what I have slotted but debuffs are harder as the only way to tell is by looking up the icons.1 point

An RPG game which is focused on character creation, armor and weapons look great in 3rd person playstyle prospective. It didn't that mean 1st person doesn't look good but if they can provide both 1st and 3rd person camera like Red Dead Redemption 2 then the gameplay will suit huge number of players.1 point

In one sense, I do get it, as the start tends to be a lot more interesting than the end, but it's still a bit odd. Beginnings contain an awful lot of possibilities, ends (quite naturally) much less so. In PnP, I find that the most interesting levels are somewhere between 5 and 15, and it's pretty much the same in cRPGs. Very early on, you're likely to die if someone sneezes or goes Boo, whereas by level 20 you're equipped to knock gods off their perches (sometimes that even happens to be your job), which is not as interesting as genuine challenges.1 point

I've completed 18 quests in total I think. 26 hours as I said. I honestly don't know how I could do it faster. Unless I skipped all the dialogue and showed 0 interest in its actual RPG systems. I get so sidetracked on exploring when off on a quest. What's impressive is even stuff that has no bearing on quests is entirely fleshed out. You actually feel like a world around you is going about itself.1 point

Nobody says that writing in Fallout 3 and 4 is better or even on a par with TWO. But TWO is not on par with Fallout: NV. It is more competent but less interesting game. For me.1 point

Discuss the post, not the poster, please. It'd be a shame if the topic degenerated into a poo-flinging contest. And no, despite what you may have heard, flinging poo is not a particularly compelling show of intelligence.1 point

The item level determines the damage weapons do, if you find a weapon that's higher than 5 levels above you you could still use it, but the "Tinker" function at workbenches lets you level equipment up to 5 levels above your player level. The cost of tinkering scales up drastically, so a MK2 weapon is a lot better than a similarly leveled MK1 even if it's primarily because tinkering will start at e.g. 50 bits from that higher level point instead of costing as much as several thousand per level.1 point

Why are the devs ignoring the threads related to this bug? About an hour ago, @OEI_Wolf and @OEI_um responded to a bunch of threads with boilerplate responses but skipped this thread and another thread reporting the same issue...1 point

I understand being restricted to sleeping on your ship on Supernova for realism because it's unrealistic to just shack up in strangers' beds and unsafe to sleep in any bed you find in the wild. But once you get to a certain area and town, you get offered to rent a place for a one time payment. And there's no option to sleep in the bed you rented. The area around the town is big, too, so if you get a sleep debuff, you have to fast travel back to your ship and make the painful trek back to wherever you're going. I'm still a bit early on in terms of the area, but this just soured me a bit. Just wanted to rant for a little.1 point

This needs fixed and should be high up on the priority list since it's on the main quest line and it rises at least up near the level of game breaking at minimum if you have already done 5+ hours in this zone. There is no work around, at least not for me. I don't see how there can be a work around as some suggest since Devil's Peak is a locked area and I can't bypass it from what I can see.1 point

Is there an error in the Event Viewer? To check, open Start, type in "Event Viewer" and press Yes if User Activation Control asks you to. Once the next window loads, expand the "Windows Logs" entry in the left frame, and select "Application". On the right hand side, there will be a "Filter current log" option. Click that, then check the Critical, Error, and Warning checkboxes, then press okay. You will see entries in the middle pane - are there any which coincide with the time of the crash? Does running it in Fullscreen (not Borderless windowed) mode help? (Sounds stupid but I've had success depending on the problem...)1 point

Same problem, can't even play the game because it consistently crashes anywhere from 20-60 seconds after getting out of the crashpod. Updated drivers, no overlays, NOT gamepass version, and have tried various graphics settings. I've had plenty of games with big bugs and instability, but never one that I absolutely could not play right out of the box like this. I also have the 21:9 issues everyone else has. Nvidia GTX 1080Ti, Windows 10, 16 gigs RAM, i7 at 4K, no overclocking, etc.1 point

I had the same issue. Can temporarily work around it by going to https://account.live.com/consent/manage and removing app permission from The Outer Worlds. Then, when it tries to login, click "no" when it asks for permission, and it will revert to the local saves. Or at least this is working for me. Obsidian/Microsoft: You need to fix this issue immediately. I would like to be able to play my game without having to spend an hour screwing around with Microsoft's incredibly obtuse "support" system before eventually stumbling into a temporary workaround on my own.1 point
-
Fixed it through the help of other save problem threads, different issues but had the info I needed. I've just tossed in my backup saves to C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\The Outer Worlds\ Saved me a lot of time... And this is yet another reason why people don't like the incomplete Epic Launcher. Please make it user friendly, shocking that you can't just play a game within the family, bring back CD/DVD's...1 point

I appreciate the comparison, but JI didn't cross my mind during Fyonlecg's development. I'm not super surprised by it, though, based on the stuff that did inform Fyonlecg. If you want to peek behind the curtain, I'll put it behind spoiler tags:1 point
