https://www.statista.com/statistics/1123070/police-shootings-rate-ethnicity-us/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/585152/people-shot-to-death-by-us-police-by-race/ https://www.odmp.org/search/year/2021 Note how almost no policemen die at the hands of criminals. Unless you count COVID, I guess. So you can understand how people going "what about the poor dead policemen?" after black people point out that they are being killed at a much higher rate than other ethnicities by police, sounds a bit offensive. To add insult to injury, let's not forget that thanks to qualified immunity, the "bad apples" that are injuring and killing people, and found to be at fault, suffer little or no consequences for their actions. So people that talk about Blue Lives Matter are usually either ignorant, disingenuous, or practicing active disinformation. By the way, just to makes things clear "bad apples" is in quotes because the problems that enable these bad actions by police, and keep them from consequences, are institutional and systemic.4 points

Speed Racer - The Most Dangerous Race (Part 1) Speed finally meets Snake Oiler and the gang of stunt racers (of evil) before the deadliest race ever (think Ice Road Truckers, but with cars and jumping from mountaintop to mountain top and stuff). Racer X warns Speed about how to be careful, Spritle and Chim-Chim do reconnaissance, Speed angrily roughs up Sparky for no reason and Trixie has to deal with floozies throwing themselves at Speed. Spritle and Chim-Chim bring information about a mod that will help Speed compete with the trick racers, but Pops collapses before he can complete it, leaving Speed to complete it alone and rush to the starting line... Above, Speed obliviously signs autographs, while below Trixie reacts. Chim-Chim and Spritle, when scouting, disguise themselves and use a jalopy...for reasons...2 points

And that is the issue. Spending bloated budget on VA or photorealistic graphics. No one asked for it from them. A lot of japanese developers are producing a lot of AA games, and they have no issue staying afloat and be profitable. It’s just the western obsession to have all the useless bells and whistles, instead of better story or gameplay, which always killed the smaller studios, not the lack of sales. You still have similar profit if your budget is 1 million and sell 100k units, as if your budget is 20 million and you sell 500k copies.2 points

"Defunding the police" in case of America means to reassign funds to different branches, such as social services, which is much more helpful in half the cases. Besides, America's Police forces don't need more money. They already have tanks and military gear, what's next, cruise missiles? If at least the money was spend on better training, but clearly it is not. I guess the slogan "defund the police" was badly chosen, since stupid people don't get it (or are getting intentionally misguided, I dunno). That said, if I remember right, the statistics say that pizza delivery is a much more dangerous job than being a policeman, but nobody wants to give them more money. #PizzaDeliveryGuyLivesMatter. /Edit: While we're at it, some funny meme.2 points

Agreed. Pentiment is exactly the type of game I was hoping for from Microsoft's acquisition spree. Ironically, I think Pentiment looks better than a fair number of AAA games with 20X the budget. Obsidian took the Nintendo approach of looking great via strong and consistent aesthetic, rather than just more shiny.2 points

A couple of recent news stories about possible future D&D video games: First, Tuque Games, the WotC-owned studio that made the new Dark Alliance game last year, has been rebranded as Invoke Studios and is now headed by a new, veteran game designer. And WotC confirms that Invoke Studios is now working on a new AAA D&D game using the UE5 engine. This of course is in addition to the two previously announced D&D game projects under Hidden Path Entertainment and OtherSide Entertainment, both of which are said to be progressing well. Second, there is this very intriguing story I saw from inXile Studios. It has been known for some time now that they are working on a new IP AAA steampunk RPG using UE5, codenamed Project Cobalt, which the head of Xbox Games recently raved about after seeing a playable vertical slice of it. But now inXile has announced in ads seeking to hire more talent that they starting work on another new AAA project using a challenging but exciting existing IP (their words). Given that (a) inXile boss Brian Fargo has long wanted to do a D&D game and lobbied WotC for BG3 way before Larian jumped in on that, (b) inXile having done their Torment: Tides of Numenera game as a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment, and (c) WotC bringing back the Planescape setting next year for TT D&D gaming, I am wondering if maybe this new inXile project is a Ps:T sequel?2 points

As the title said, this is a repost of an idea I had for a new glider/helicopter of sorts. It's a mid to end game piece of equipment, with the maple keys being rare. I was thinking of finding them in or around the hollowed out stump in the haze zone, possibly being hoarded/guarded by a nasty refuse to be gased out spider or something equally as nasty (lol ****roach?) You would face the piece of equipment like the dandelion tuft, one hand on the side bar (left side) the other grabbing the loop (right). The insect antennae would be under your armpits keeping you in place. It works like a double or triple jump, with every "jump" being another squeeze of the bellows both launching you up a decent distance and keeping you in the air longer. After your initial jump you jump again and you do the first squeeze. V.1 would only have one "poof" of air with the V.2 upgrade having the bellows refill to be used again and again (depending on stamina like the tuft) The rate of horizontal movement speed and range is far greater then the tuft, decent around the same. Materials I think should be intensive but not grindy. But construction would be in 2 pieces, the maple key copter being one using -maple keys, sap, woven fiber, 2 sprigs, 2 antennae The bellows being the obvious second using -berry leather, spider webs, sap, 2 weevil noses, woven fiber. With the upgraded one using possibly cricket legs or strider legs for the springs for refilling. Sorry for the repost, it just took me a bit to get my pics resized off my phone and on to here. Again please let me know what you guys think!1 point

A while ago, when I first heard of I Want To Eat Your Pancreas, I thought it would be a goofy zombie anime, why else would anyone want to eat someone's pancreas? Imagine my disappointment to learn it's one of those films.1 point

A good friend of mine recommended the manga of I Want to Eat Your Pancreas to me, and against my better judgement, I read the first two books. Now, I'm not a moron, I knew within about the first two pages that it obviously wasn't for me, but I decided to give it a more than fair shake, since this friend hadn't recommended anything to me in a very long time. Well, okay, the reason she doesn't ever recommend anything to me is because we never, ever see eye to eye on anything, and she thought this might be an exception, as she felt it had general appeal for people who don't like anime. Sadly, I Want to Eat Your Pancreas is the epitome of the "soft piano drama" that I have so often maniacally ranted and raved about, so that's pretty unfortunate that I despised every page that I read of it. Strongly recommended for Sarex though, as it seems like something that could genuinely be up his alley.1 point

Phrases like 'blue lives matter' and 'all lives matter' didn't exist until the phrase 'black lives matter' started to be used to talk about how black people were frequently killed by police without repercussions. Both phrases are intended not to try to highlight the plight of 'all' or 'blue' lives, but as a direct reaction against a group of people grieving that their lives are seemingly not valued as much as others around them. One key difference between Pedro's comments and Gina's is that Trump is a racist person who made a number of racist remarks and attracted a disproportionately large number of racist followers. Among his supporters were: Two men who beat up a Latino immigrant while saying 'Donald Trump was right.' https://edition.cnn.com/2016/05/16/us/trump-supporters-immigrant-beating/index.html (Trump's response was that his supporters were very passionate.) Men who rallied shouting 'Jews will not replace us.' https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/12/us/charlottesville-protest-white-nationalist.html (Trump said there were very fine people on both sides.) David Duke https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/1/31/neo-nazis-and-white-supremacists-celebrate-trumps-sotu The Daily Stormer https://www.salon.com/2018/01/16/white-supremacists-to-trump-welcome-back-we-still-love-you/ Usually when people talk about conservative viewpoint being 'persecuted', it means something like 'when I express my horrible opinions, people criticise me.' Pedro's comparison is apt, Gina's is misguided at best, intentionally dishonest at worst. Side note, and I am relatively confident that this will have been explained to you in detail before, but the concept of 'freedom of speech' refers only to the freedom from legal consequences from your speech. It has nothing to do with how a private company reacts to what you choose to say. A private company is allowed to use what you say to determine if your values align with their own, and that is as it should be. If someone decided to express their 'political opinion' that vaccines are a conspiracy run by a cabal of evil Jews who also control the weather, it should be totally fine to fire that person. (And it is.)1 point

Turkey has been bombing the Kurds in Syria again in response to the bombing last week in Istanbul*. That was a bombing supposedly carried out by a headscarf wearing (ie religious) arab who had been contacted multiple times by the Turkish nationalist MHP party (claimed to be a wrong number due to her having the same name as someone else...), supposedly done on behalf of the Kurdish atheist PKK. And the suspect had very obviously been beaten up (at best) when 'confessing'. *Whatever you do don't read the BBC article, utter garbage that reads like it was dictated by Erdogan.1 point

18 – October 18, 20:30 – I have finished the main storyline of Final Fantasy XV on PS4. It is still mixed bag for me. Chapters 1-9 were pretty bland and boring, due to the mostly empty open world, and everything taking so long. The exceptions was dungeon crawling. On the other hand in chapters 10-14, I had pretty solid fun. Almost 86 hours spent means, that I enjoyed the game enough, to not throw it out of the window, as I was planning to do, after playing the Platinum Demo . Still it seems to me, that this game was failed live service, which did not achieve to hold enough interest for keeping player going back to the game. Having full story put in between movie, anime, DLCs, novels and audio dramas, did not help either. For Royal Edition, which wanted to bring the users back to the game, even the newly added mandatory storyline trophy has been unlocked by less than 6% of the owners. Which probably caused 3 more planned DLCs cancelled.1 point

Saaaaame. Jesus, this game makes me feel things due to how easy it is to screw up and just have to deal with the consequences right after. I managed to implicate someone, and my immediate reaction is, I was wrong and I want to follow new leads and see who else I can uncover. But I also think all of my reactions, my emotions and so on in response to the consequence of my decisions are an anxious mess in a really, really good way, like the product of fantastic storytelling. I think we've largely grown used to being fed a power fantasy in games, where we manage to solve the murder, to beat the bad guy, to save the day and so on, without question, that it's hard to fully accept a conclusion (to the first act anyway) like this. And it's interesting because it's opening emotions and sensations that most other games don't dare touch because they don't want to engage their audience in this manner, where there's almost a verdict or accusation about the actions *you* commit as well. Anyway, this is great so far. It's going places...1 point

Funny, just 2 days ago I finished a FNV playthrough again. First one in 7 years. Sure the game has issues, but it's still exceptionally well done and well written. One of the best RPGs of the last 20 years for sure. There is lots of great dialog in the game, the ending slides are great, the world has great atmosphere. I get why some people like Fo3 more than FNV ... especially in the beginning FNV can be a bit boring since it doesn't force-feed you with everything right away. There are areas where you literally don't meet any enemies at all, while in Fo3 you get dogs, bloatflies, raiders, ghouls, supermutants around every single corner. So terrible. Anyways, here is me watching the president. The biggest issue I have is that even with JSawyer mod, it just gets so easy later. Nothing is a threat, mere a hassle.1 point

Is Courier even from California? In any way, I spent many hundreds of hours in NV, never sided with the Legion once and likely I never will. I've started playing Fallout New Vegas because I got it for free on GoG and it just seemed like a good idea. It was. I still plan on starting a new character in LotRO when they release the new starter areas. My Captain is level 111 and battling despair in Mordor. edit: I wish I had the willpower to make different decisions in New Vegas. Like, I always side with Good Springs and go to war with the Powder Gangers. I always attack Caesar's Legion almost immediately. I'm no good at the moral gray area stuff.1 point

It's been a busy and shameful month for me. Halloween saw me buy a bunch of horror games to try and get in the mood. Played a bit of Signalis, lost some interest at the first boss fight. It's a great game, atmospheric and tense, but I'm not super into running in circles for a while waiting for weak spots to show up. Let alone repeating this process multiple times. Played a bunch of Bendy and the Ink Machine after hearing all the people review it as if it's the best horror game of all time. It's alright. Like an Amnesia-lite. Kind of got bored of being chased by monsters and hiding in closets a few years ago. And I'm not super into whatever's going on to pick it up again. The Eternal Cylinder. Another game that really failed to engage with me. Fascinating world they have, but the gameplay loop never grabbed me. Run from the cylinder for a while, then hunt down stuff to eat and mutate into the right form to progress. The finding the right mutation being the bulk of the game's puzzles. In my time with the game that's all there was. The Entropy Center. This is the winner of the past month. It clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Portal and falls short, but not so short. It's not as funny, but the characters are charming, and the puzzles are great. Working out the logic and seeing that fail or succeed kept me going until I finished the whole thing. Only game I've completed in a couple months. Dying Light. It was fun until I realized I'd seen all it had to throw at me 30 hours in and I wasn't even halfway done. Which paints me as a hypocrite for the next game. Fallout 4. In my defense, I like building things, I like collecting suits of armor, and the gunplay is at least workable. These are not features Dying Light shared. I could spend way too much time building robots. And then going into new buildings to collect garbage to build more robots.1 point

Nothing can stand against barrelmancy/lava. There are a lot of ways to cheese your way through, but it makes the battles more gimmicky, than tactical. Expeditions: Viking. Cleared the prologue. The time limit strongly reminds of Pathfinder: Kingmaker, as does the settlement/clan management screen, but, fortunately, no advisors or random events yet.1 point

I've beaten every stage in Vampire Survivors. I can confidently say that this is a legit GotY contender. Obviously, from a technical standpoint, VS isn't going to stack up against Elden Ring or Dad of War 2, but I personally weigh fun factor and engagement much more than any other factor, it's like 2/3 of the equation. This game is off the charts in the fun factor department, it's like a 14/10 and it hooked me like no game has hooked me in years. I still have a few things to unlock, some weapons to evolve, and perhaps a character or two to get. I almost never care about 100% completing games, I don't care about achievement and trophies, but in this case I'm going to try because it's an excuse to play it more.1 point
