Link to the run => Ultimate Run Introduction: I've been trying the ultimate since summer last year. From the release of PoE:II I was infatuated with the ranger class, and it was the first Single Class i beat solo PotD difficulty on and the theory crafting started from there. The main benefit to ranger is also its biggest downside. The pet. So the first thing that had to be solved was how to deal with the downsides. One of them being the stealth sections, where it's not only you who has to stealth through them but your pet has to as well. Another one is that, when your pet dies, you get a nasty debuff wich lowers your accuracy and resolve. There is no argument that other classes, with no pet, are the safer pick for this challenge. And there are many ways to approach any given situation in the game. But the upsides of having a pet far outweighs the downsides of having one, especially when paired with a Soulblade Cipher. Starting Build: Race: Wood Elf Class: Cipher (Soulblade) / Ranger (no subclass) Might: 16 Constitution: 10 Dexterity: 11 Perception: 20 Intellect: 12 Resolve: 9 Culture/background: The White that Wends / Hunter Weapon Proficiency: Club / Medium shield (Heater) Pet: Boar I think this build is possible with any race, but most optimal would be the ones that give you a bonus to perception cause this build relies heavily on accuracy. So either Elf or Orlan, but Orlan has -1 to might. And might being the second biggest focus of the build, i opted for Elf cause i'd rather have a bonus to perception without the penalty to might. We are getting more accuracy buffs throughout the game than might ones. The other race bonuses are verry minor in the long run, cause i tried most of them, and in the end the change was barely noticeable. Same for culture, there we take another +1 perception, again accuracy will be needed. Hunter background provides us with +1 in alchemy/mechanics/survival. This one is mostly picked for the mechanics, there's alot of lockpicking in the first sections of the game. As far as weapon proficiency goes, it doesn't really matter, we are going a monastic build. There is an argument to be made for clubs, wich lowers the targets will, and lets you land your debuffs more reliably. But the switching weapons downtime always felt really clunky to me so i did not really use it. Pet wise i think boar is best suited for the run, cause of the free regen between deaths. The Class combo : Seer (Soulblade/Ranger) It is with this class combo, that the rangers biggest downside, becomes it's strongest asset. Before, you dreaded your pet dying. Now, you want it to die. Alot. The soulblade passive : Gains "Soul Annihilation" ability: A soul enhanced melee strike that consumes the cipher's remaining power pool and converts it into Raw damage on the target. Shred cipher spells cost less Focus. Downing an enemy with a Melee Weapon temporarily grants Concentration and raises Max Focus. So whenever we kill a "target", we grow our focus pool, wich in term means a bigger hit. We already have a target, our pet, we can kill however many times we want. Now we only need to extend the duration of the buff itself, for that we use Cabalist's Gambason and Strand of Favor to prolong the buff, so we can keep our high focus pool and therefore our big burst. There's three points in the run where i buff up by downing the pet. The first time to a 100 stacks, the second time to 1000 stacks, and the third time to 2000 stacks. Wich gets us a starting focus pool of 250, 2500 and 5000 respectively. The dmg is not a 1:1 conversion it's hard to say how it does but i think it does 2/3s of the current focus pool as damage. What also could make it hard to gage how it determines damage, is the fact that when you have 1000+ base focus, when you use Soul Annihilation, it doesn't dump your focus completely as it says in the tooltip but only a -1000. So when you have 250 base focus, you have one big punch, at 2500 you have 3 big punches, and at 5000 you have 5 big punches. Is what it comes down to, that's why damage and accuracy is what the build will focus on most. The way this build approaches fights that have to be fought is to identify the biggest threats, focus them down fast with our big punches, and then just control dps down the rest. And it all comes together with all the ranger and cipher spell kits. Abilities and Passive tree Ranger Abilities: Marked Prey, Heal Companion, Evasive Roll, Concussive shot, Concussive Tranquilizer. Cipher Abilities: Valerous Echoes, Recall Agony, Psychovampiric Shield, Pain Block, Borrowed Instinct, Echoing Shield. Passives: Monastic Unarmed Training, Penetrating Visions, Biting Whip, Hammering Thoughts, The Empty Soul, Resilient Companion, Uncanny Luck, Improved Critical, Tough, Survival of the fittest. Everything revolves around landing your big punches at the start of a fight, most fights not all ( Belranga, and sigilmaster for example). So we have to know wich enemies in the group are major end running threats and focus them down first. And this kit helps you in doing so. We can buff ourselves with Borrowed instinct and Psycho vampiric shield, wich also simultanously debuffs the enemy. We can get extra accuracy on the target by flanking it together with the pet, and Marked prey. We also get a boost from our passives. So the go to strategy is, debuff the target and buff yourself enough so you are sure to land your big hit and you have to, because when you miss you lose that focus. So the fight can go verry wrong if you miss enough times. We can keep our pet alive in the meantime with Pain Block and Heal pet, remove might based stuns with Valerous Echoes. Echoing shield is mostly used to strip enemies from their concentration, wich allows me to interupt them with Concussive Tranquilizer. Evasive Roll is used to position ourselves almost instantaniously close to target to be able to hit them. With this ability you can reliable take out dangerous targets fast even though they are far away from each other. Recall Agony is just icing on the cake with our damage, cause it redeals 30 percent of it, mostly used on big targets, however it is worth noting that when you auto attack a target with recall agony you will gain focus faster. Closing There's alot more to this build than the write up i did. Like what route to take to be on time, wich items to get and where, how to protect vela, etc but this is the core principle of the build for the ultimate. You can see the route and strategies in further detail in the actual run posted up top. 00 comments3 points

Finally got my deck last week and put on all the heavy hitters like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk, and older games like F.E.A.R and Oblivion. Even put in a 1tb Sandisk Extreme SD to expand the storage to 1.5tb. The speed on the SD is pretty much the same as the nvme, and I'm baffled at that. Aside from some glitches here and there, I think Steam OS wins as a gaming platform due to its efficiency in handling big titles in a low power form factor, its really well optimized. Being able to play games fully maxed out and modded compared to low vanilla settings on the Switch counterparts is a big plus as well. Now all it needs is an oled screen like the Switch has...3 points

Instruments of Pain does not play well with bonuses against distant enemies (e.g. Sky Dragon Wurm). Despite being at distant range (>4m) you don't get the bonuses, which I guess are explicitly not allowed for melee regardless of range.3 points

Agreed. Just a few remarks on top of that. "No-logging" VPN vendors are a bit of a misnomer. They have to keep some logs for their network infrastructure to work. They just promise to delete them and/or not hand them over to different jurisdictions when required to do so. Some browsers (Opera, Epic) already include built-in encrypted proxy functions, but of course, they aren't actual VPNs so only the browser traffic is encrypted before leaving your endpoint -- meaning some traffic can "leak" through and in theory be traced back to you. And also, "if you're good at something never do it for free", etc. Tor is okay but as mentioned nodes may be compromised and also more and more providers are starting to block Tor nodes as a matter of course. There's no one-size-fits-all solution, but a combination of measures can make it so it's unreasonably difficult for your ISP to know about your Skyrim adult mods searches. I, of course, use nothing whatsoever because I'm lazy. Welp, hope my boss doesn't find out I guess. For Serious Business levels of illegal, just hire a botnet. Or even better, make your own and get hired by Israeli intelligence or something.2 points

Yeah but Amplified Wave does have a damage roll and penetration. It's likely that it's seen as not having these because the first part of the spell involves targeting an ally which is auto-hit.2 points

That time I got reincarnated as a slime episode 21... The slime overlord turned school teacher manages to earn the respect of the kids... backed in part by a giant intimidating and growling giant dire wolf (leaving no doubt that the kids are close to becoming dog food) and a "test", where the kids all get 10 minutes of one on one fighting and a chance to see if they can take him down. Of course it was never really a contest and he also observes that none of their excess magical energy got "burnt off" in the skirmishes. One kid, Chloe caught his attention for reasons he can't pinpoint. He shows them Shizu's mask (which they all recognize) and tell them she entrusted them to him and he will do anything he can to save them. The kids start acting just a little nicer.... Following up on his hunch, that Shizu survived until adulthood because of her merging with a superior spirit, he asks the Dryad for advice, where to find superior spirits. She points him towards something called The Dwelling of Spirits, ruled over by The Queen of Spirits. Yeah... getting all spiritual now (including a nightly conversation, well monologue, with Shizu's spirit where he repeats his commitment to save the kids) Unfortunately, the Queen of Spirits that the Dryad served, passed away a long time ago and she has no connection to the current ruler. Which means, she can't give him any directions towards an entrance to the place Rimuru spends the next month trying to figure out how to access the place. More teaching, class excursions, lessons and bonding exercises follow. A chance encounter with a human gives him a clue to the places whereabouts, as she claims it was close to the village where she grew up. Off Rimuru, Ranga and the class goes in search of superior spirits...2 points

Im making huge progress in my exciting and wonderous journey in Oblivion. I have started closing the Oblivion gates to get support for Bruma and I decided to make Frostcrag Spire my home. I have upgraded it and its ideal for R&R after a hard day at saving the world I am loving the following mods apart from the " must have " Maskars overhaul mod Ultimate Leveling : It uses XP points and makes exploring and most adventuring activities rewarding Midas Magic Mod : This is the most perfect and lore friendly mod to enhance all spell castings. Its adds hundreds of new spells, a dungeon, quests and monsters you need for ingredients. It has an exciting spell creation system that you use at a new Midas Shop at the Arcane University ....gems and other jewelry never became so important Alchemy Advanced : It makes everything about creating potions more complex and worthwhile ....highly recommended if you enjoy the art of alchemy I had one potential " ground breaking " bug where I couldnt initiate the Mythic Dawn attack on Weynon Priory but I used a console cheat to finish this quest but that in turn created another bug where I didnt get the key for Cloud Ruler Temple. But I solved this by using another console cheat to unlock the temple door in Cloud Ruler and then spoke to Jauffre to complete the quest2 points

Eyy, the real life Excelsior just got promoted to the Eredivisie (top Dutch league) the same year I did it in Football Manager. Heard it was a mad game, levelled it from 0-3 down to get into extra time, then fell behind again, equalised, then won 8-7 on penalties. But that's off-topic I suppose. As for the video game, I went and did some research instead of just winging it and was a bit disappointed with what I found, mechanically speaking. Seems that as many times before in the history of the series, the key to success is simply stacking the team with Pace, Acceleration, and Dribbling. Sometimes it's better to not know I guess, because knowing how shallow things are behind the scenes can certainly impact what satisfaction you get from winning. Ah well. So enough with that, time to dive into the latest Euro Truck Sim 2 patch, and its long-awaited revamp of Austria. Truth be told, I don't remember much about how the old Austrian cities looked, because the horrible, poorly-signed highways and prefab buildings made it deathly dull to drive though, and I'd always take a detour through France when driving between Italy and Scandinavia (my two favourite regions of the game). Started by driving to Innsbruck which is lovely, if confusing to navigate. Then while fumbling with the UI, I accidentally took a driver-for-hire job instead of a regular job, which meant I drove an entry level truck to Klagenfurt instead of my shiny new 2021 state-of-the-art DAF. It's funny, while driving it the thing that most caught my attention and made me cringe was the spectacularly cheap-looking steering wheel. Kinda made me feel icky imagining how sticky and unpleasant holding it would be, now that's immersion.2 points

Just finished my first solo potd run, the build performed slightly worse than I expected, but I decided to post it anyway for some advices to get a better understanding of the game. Race: Coastal Aumaua (doesn't really matter, I picked it so that I didn't have to worry about stuns) Class: Trickster/Soul Blade. Trickster for safety, Soul Blade because I wanted something melee. Skills: Eventually Arcana + Alchemy, History. This build has no sustainability without consumables, and there's no game-breaking synergy for FS content. Stats (Before Berath's Blessing and other buffs): MIG 8 CON 9 (I chose Rauatai background for RP, should've put 1 point somewhere else) DEX 18 PER 18 INT 16 RES 6 I wasn't confident enough to furthur dump CON and RES. I'm pretty happy about high DEX and INT because maintaining cipher buffs was a pain, it would have been more miserable if I went lower. Also I didn't feel the need for MIG as weapons are the primary source of our damage. Weapon proficiencies: Spear, Club, Sabre, Large Shield, Morning Star Food: Captain's Banquet. Again a safe choice. Action Speed helps with those buffs and immunities are always nice. Hot Razor Skewers might have been better but with the help of Body Attunement I don't think there was an occasion I seriously regreted my choice. Pet: Abraham (reduced recovery from armor, heal on kill) And other no rest buffs Abilities (rogue): Escape, Crippling Strike, Gouging Strike, Dirty Fighting, Riposte, Adept Evasion, Persistent Distraction, Deep Wounds, Deathblows I spent most Guile on Escape, Crippling Strike and Illusions spells, and I had no idea how to make invisibility abilities work, so I picked none. Abilities (cipher): Whisper of Treason, Lingering Echoes, Iron Will, Draining Whip, Hammering Thoughts, Body Attunement, Borrowed Instinct, Disintegration, The Empty Soul. Most are "fast" spells. I only picked those essential for melee, except Whisper of Treason and Disintegratin are too good for any cipher. Secret Horrors is amazing but Trickster already have Ryngrim's Repulsing Visage. Since it's mostly melee, Rapid casting and Farcasting are unnecessary. Abilities (general): Two Weapon Style, Weapon and Shield Style, Bear's Fortitude, Snake's Reflex, Bull's Will, Tough, Uncanny Luck, Improved Critical. Gear: Weapons: Stalker's Patience, Kahua Hozi (optional), Kapana Taga, Scordeo's Edge, Bronlar's Phalanx, Grave Calling. Stalker's Patience is our main hand most of the time. Off hand is Kapana Taga later Scordeo's Edge. Grave Calling trivializes vessal combats as all damage from its Chill Fog is considered weapon damage so even if there're non-vessel enemies, we can spam Soul Annihilation on them nonstop. Head: Blackened Plate Helm. The Maw of Ingimyrk for beast fights in SSS. Neck: Baubles of the Fin, Charm of Bones Chest: Blackened Plate Armor / Reckless Brigandine, depending on incoming damage type. Back: Cape of the Falling Star, The Giftbearer's Cloth Hands: Bracers of Greater Deflection, Gatecrashers, Burglar's Gloves Fingers: Entonia Signet Ring, Ring of Minor Protection Feet: Boots of the Stone, Rakhan Field Boots, Sandals of the Water Lily Waist: Blunting Belt, The Undying Burden, Girdle of Eoten Constitution General Strategy: I have to admit I skipped those lower level combats, even though with charm I imagine they might be doable. This build starts to work when we get borrowed instinct. Start the combat with dual weapons if enemies are melee heavy or standing closely. Large shield with modal for scattered archers and mages. Mirrored Image / Llengrath's Displaced Image + Borrowed Instinct to start with, if there's space for a little more kiting then add Body Attunement, otherwise Repulsive Visage when surrounded in melee, this should significantly reduce incoming damage and give lots of disengagement hits and free focus, which can be used to SA archers or casters. Against mass high level archers / mages I had to just buy enough time for Borrowed Instinct then Escape to a relatively safe place for Scrolls of Great Maelstrom. In most cases combat is all about avoid dying in the first few seconds and find best targets for Borrowed Instinct / Body Attunement. Specific Encounters: 3/4 Megabosses, SSS crocodile and Oracle of Wael were cheesed by Gouging Strike. This build can't push defensive stats to extreme and lacks healing, so I couldn't find a way to play fair against them. I think the strongest boss I managed to defeat in a straightforward fight was the Dracolich from BoW and it was all about keeping the buffs up, easy and boring. Hauani was the one I thought I had the strategy for, but didn't quite work out in reality. After Gouging Strike it to near death I couln't reliably get Club modal (lowering will) + Borrowed Instinct + Morning Star modal (lowering fortitude) + Disintegration without getting killed even with full buff, inserting any heal other than Second Wind will cause the debuff on it to expire and retrying takes forever, so I just gave it up. I guess that's about it. Trickster is always pretty good, but cipher buffs are a little unreliable and certainly become a chore very quickly. To be honest I don't feel pround about this run, just "finally it's over". I hope I could be able to make SSS and FS fights less arcana reliant next time.1 point

This isn't something I am really working on, but I figured it might be interesting to others. I've just discovered it is possible to have adventurers (the custom characters that can be hired from most inns) speak during a conversation! In brief you can do this by adding the speaker GUID (these are found in speakers.gamedatabundle) of the voice set in use by the character to the SpeakerGuid and FocusedSpeaker sections of a conversation node. The name of the character and the current portrait will then appear in the conversation window. If there are audiofiles that correspond to the conversation node in the folder associated with the voice set these will also be played during the conversation. This should in theory allow for the creation of rudimentary sidekicks/companions with voiced dialogue! With a lot of work and some degree of trial and error possibly even full conversation hubs of their own... Though the main hurdle as far as that goes, is that the lack of a button to start a conversation with adventurers directly. So the only way I could think of is using something like an item to start the conversation, similar to how the burned book works. There is also the lack of modding documentation related to the data structure of .conversationbundle files to contend with. None the less could be really cool to see what someone dedicated enough might come up with! I'm happy to answer questions to the best of my ability about anything I have written here.1 point

Oh wow, that's an awesome discovery! Yeah, maybe also script hooks to trigger convos on entering specific locations. Actually, I've been working on a thorough documentation of the conversation and quest formats. I'll clean up and post tomorrow.1 point

Even if possible, It will be very unreliable. There are two conditions that could kinda work: Target: Allies in Melee Range > 1 and Target: Enemies in Melee Range > 0 (not). Together they could be used to find a target with at least two allies (allies of the target, i.e. your enemies) close to it and where there are no your own party members around. But the problem is that Fireball is so slow to cast and by the time your wizard actually casts it, the situation might be completely different. Also, if the spell has a large area of effect it might still hurt your allies, even if the situation hasn't changed meanwhile. I love to automate but I wouldn't give my scripts the power to cast fireballs. Such spells require precise positioning and timing. With all that said, I haven't actually tried it. Maybe it could turn out to be not that suicidal in practice.1 point

If it makes you feel better, the Bucks look to be in good shape going forward. Giannis is at the beginning of his prime and likely hadn't hit his peak yet, which is a terrifying thought for everybody except the Bucks and their fans. Compare them to the Lakers who have an aging Lebron and Anthony Davis who can't stay healthy and the Russell Westbrook situation is a disaster. They got a title, so mortgaging the farm was worth it IMHO, but going forward... Yikes!1 point

Unless you have 15 pen or more, more penetration is extremely valuable in PotD. With an 11 pen weapon and Hot Razor Skewers you still only have 13 pen, which is often insufficient in PotD. You don't want to spend discipline spamming Penetrating Strikes.1 point
-
I have found that Devoted is not truly necessary, because using a fighter + penetrating strikes, you have a cheap way to get +3 pen. If you eat Hot Razer Skewers, then you pen goes up even more! Also, slash attacks are usually easier to land in deadfire since most mobs will have higher pierce or crush armor (but there are exceptions!) If you want to try something different , unbroken could be fun. I am trying a 'terrify' focused party that stacks on engagements now.1 point

Yes indeed. This had been pointed by @thelee in his encyclopedia: If the spell has an accuracy roll, it gets +1 accuracy per PL. Some spells instead get +2 accuracy per PL. Chants, hazards, and spells that primarily only have that accuracy roll (no damage/healing, no duration effect) tend to benefit from this. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/227477-pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire/faqs/76599/power-level-scaling1 point

Slime story continued, episode 20... For those who don't get the irony of Milim's 'Showing newfound restraint' comment in the last video clip, the last time she got really angry she completely wiped out a nation (Milim the Destroyer indeed)... It starts out in a hot spring (very Japanese I suppose), everybody relaxing after the latest scare and disaster averted. Milim brings up the subject of Rimuru becoming a demon lord again (she wouldn't object!). Rimuru is confused however, why would he want to be that and what's the merit in it? Milim being a bit baffled by the question, why did she become one? Milim is/was a dragonoid like Veldora, who currently resides in one of Rimuru's pocket dimensions inside him since episode 1 (where he agreed to take up residence for now, to escape the trap that had been laid for him). She can't remember why she did so, but poses it as a question... did something bad happen to me and I became one out of frustration? Leaving Rimuru confused, as to why she's asking him why she became one... But... she suddenly thought up one benefit. Thanks to being a demon lord, she gained herself a bestie! Anyway, she takes off because she has to "go back to work", which means hang out with other demon lords and do demon lord stuff. Which concludes the mini-arc that was Milim's introduction. Rimuru is now getting back to a promise he made to Shizu. Leaving people in charge of his city, he makes his way to the Kingdom of Ingrassia, together with Ranga (his dire wolf). Through contacts, he had already sent a letter of introduction to the founder of the school "The Freedom Academy", which was originally one of Shizu's students, 'Yuuki' and a Japanese family name (which I cant spell correctly from top of my head, too many syllables), which Rimuru takes as he's probably originally from Japan, just like Shizu was (full name Shizue Izawa). As for why these kids needs some attention... they are all summoned from other worlds and discarded as "failures", because their summoner didn't get what he wanted out of them. That leaves them with accumulating magical powers, which will soon kill the kids by spontaneous self combustion and/or explosion. Not a bright future ahead for these kids and they know they're not going to grow old. Shizu survived because her summoner forced her to merge with a superior fire spirit, which absorbed some of the magical energy until she got strong enough to control both the spirit and the magic. Rimuru make his way past the city guard and for the first time in a long time is in a city with the hustle and bustle of a human city (having previously been to the Dwarven capital and other cities with a lot of mixed species in the streets). He's convinced the city must be very wealthy as they have glass windows! Rimuru meets Yuuki and after a bit of misunderstandings (because he was using Shizu's mask to hide his magical aura at the city gates and Yuuki thinks he has killed Shizu to take her mask), he gets on Yuuki's good side by using his knowledge of manga's to instantly print a library of manga's that Yuuki hadn't read before he got summoned to this world He gets the job. Even a regular salary On their way to class, Yuuki drops the name 'Hinata', being one of Shizu's former students, but Rimuru knows very little about her other than Shizu mentioning she had a student by that name who left her. Well, the class is something out of a horror movie. A bunch of kids rampaging through the class room, not giving a damn about anything, because hey, we're going to die tomorrow anyway, right? More to follow later...1 point

Yes they are the land-based version of the Harpoon. Many US allies have Harpoon, but Denmark is one of the very few countries that has the land-based version. Apparently those Harpoons and more US M777 howitzers were very recently delivered. The M777s are only now getting into the fight in the east, and are being assessed as highly effective. On the M142 HiMARS, apparently the White House has decided to send them, but don't want to make a big public spectacle of it because the Russians are screaming about that crossing their red lines.1 point

1. If you Dominate a Charmed teammate, you get full control of them again. If you charm a charmed/dominated teammate, I believe they will just stand still 2. There are a few spells that get +2 accuracy per PL. The ones I know of are Slicken, Telekinetic Burst, Amplified Wave and Chanter's White Worm invocation. There are probably more out there.1 point

I like the idea of raids, but I feel it should be something players can opt into, rather than required to turn off via customized settings. On steam discussions, I see people worried about achievements / customized settings, feeling that their forced to do the raids & also players that have built a kingdom, only to have it destroyed & feeling that it's all been for nothing. I normally opt to play in custom settings, and the raids aren't a bother for me, but I do sympathize with my fellow players.1 point

It doesn’t make sense that bugs would be smart enough to get annoyed and retaliate but you wouldn’t be able to facilitate a friendship and tame them. Plus, there is no way to AVOID killing them. You can with red ants by equipping the red ant armor, but that doesn’t work with other bugs. So, unless they add in the armors to make those bugs neutral to you(bees are meant to be but they decide to attack me when I’m walking on the picnic table??), then they will always be angry at you when you need to go into their lairs/areas for resources. Or simply to harvest the bugs for resources themselves with no way to appease them afterwards. Is there a cool down?? It’s not a good feature. I also have a million weevils running around outside, which is harmless but looks really strange. I kill all I see and the next day there are just as many.1 point
