Just a reminder... these threads have so far run relatively smoothly, considering the topic being of big importance to a number of community members. A few posts have been removed, but considering the volume, not enough to do drastic things. So, please keep in mind, discussing the politics, consequences, military aspects, putting figures on losses, advances and lost territory, financial consequences, and especially humanitarian consequences is fine, but there are things that are not fine. Mocking the dead and dying, those grieving lost ones and wishing death on or encourage the killing of people/groups of people (even if it's Scott Morrison) is not Ok. Such posts will be removed. Remember today's enemy is tomorrows friend (ask Germany and France or the US and Japan).6 points

Or maybe we only hear about the ones that actually explode. Well, except for this one:3 points

That's why they bombed the Mariupol Theater with children inside and killed 300 people right? Or I forgot, it was not Russian army, it was Ukrainian nazis... You are even more silly than Lavrov, who is whining like an 3 year old girl...3 points

But it is vain claim you are trying to avoid civilian casualties if you use indirect fire against city full of civilians even if there are troops that defending it against your invading troops. Ability to do more damage against civilians doesn't mean that you are trying to avoid civilian casualties. I mean nuclear powers could always claim that they avoid civilian casualties even when they carpet bomb cities with fire bomb because they didn't use nukes.3 points

It's very bad (didn't watch it and don't intend to) but these are people who have unlawfully attacked a sovereign country and whose mission is to kill both soldiers and civilians. It's not as if anyone has entered Russian soil with similar intentions.2 points

Balanced between a bit more costume work, and writing up a 10 minute presentation for a job interview. Been working on that neck-seal. Thought I'd try something a little different from the standard pseudo-StormTrooper style a lot of Mando's use. Also, for amusements sake, tried making a 3D scan of myself wearing flightsuit, flak-vest and neck seal. Thought i might try putting it into Blender to really get the right proportion when tweaking armour designs...2 points

I see exactly the opposite; it has encouraged material support for Ukraine and has had a significant impact on the ground. Being wishy-washy instead would substantially weaken the West's position against Putin and further encourage his aggression.2 points
-
The US' so-called "puerile" message encourages Western unity and strengthens the negotiating position vs. Putin. Remember it was Putin that burned that bridge with the territorial grab of the Crimea, an unwarranted invasion, and attacks on Ukranian civilians. There's nothing good about his behavior, and if he burns for it I'll shed no tears.2 points

Whenever I see Wheaton shilling I think of this Not that I probably wouldn't be just as gross if they wanted to pay me to like this stuff1 point
-
It's literally his job to be a shill. Plus, there's always the chance, however small, that he's genuinely excited for this stuff. I'm already in the acceptance stage of my Star Trek grief, that kind of stuff doesn't really bother me. I'm at peace with the fact that the Star Trek I loved is dead and never coming back. Whoever watches and enjoys Nu Trek can have it. I'm just here for the memes... And to derive perverse pleasure from Mike Stoklasa & Rich Evans getting increasingly exasperated as they try to make sense of these shows.1 point

And hence why discussing stuff that cannot be posted is problematic... just ignore that, I guess.1 point

I didn't seen anyone supporting war crimes in this thread. But it might have been removed1 point
-
So what's the point exactly? If I remember right, we never cheered them on. America got criticized a lot for their actions, still are today. Russia doesn't even acknowledge their crimes. Should we be ok with this war, because America did the same? What's the agenda?1 point

Yup. I brought this up myself in a post yesterday. Putin, Lavrov et. al.: "We're going to do some outrageously brutal and horrific and criminal things to the Ukrainians, but the only wrong thing here is you nasty Westerners being mean to us about it all."1 point

TNG Genesis-we continue on the 'ST does horror' tour. Barclay's genetics cause problems when Dr Crusher 's cure backfire and devolves everyone. It's a fun 'crew turn to monsters and someone has to creep through dark corridors' run around with some nice monster suits. I did wonder if this episode is why Discovery went with the slightly more lizards look for their Klingons. Speaking of Discovery, I'm about halfway through season 2. I enjoyed the revisit to Talos IV, even if I found the differences in how the characters looked (outfits, Talosian makeup) a bit distracting (made more so with an episode launching with scenes from THE CAGE).1 point

Contrast this with the idea (expressed here, too) that Russia is trying to avoid civilian casualties, and things don't add up neatly at all. Speaking of contrasts, I think it's psychologically both fascinating and terrifying that Russia is both an extremely cruel aggressor and the most childish whiner you've ever seen. Just look at Kreml's / Lavrov's / Putin's comments on how the naughty west is not being kind to them at all.1 point

Know what I like about Diablo3 on PS4? That you can play with "yourself" by running the game three times with different "user accounts" on the same single device. So I can take my main chr. on account 1 and drag 1-3 other characters behind me to increase difficulty and drop rates, as well as easy in-game access to tons of mule chrs. on those other user accounts. Make as many user accounts as you want for endless and well organized mule accounts etc. The only other time I remember being able to do similar with a PC game was Borderlands 1, where I was able to alt-tab out of that game and click/start a 2nd running copy (on same PC) to then join/mule/drag a chr. around etc. I'm sure there were other PC games you could do that too but I didn't play (or just don't remember) them. Do PC games still let you do that sort of thing anymore, or has all the digital, online/account and drm measures = never...outside of maybe some indie games here and there? At any rate, I finally got past Greater Rift 70 last week and can get Primal Ancient items now. My main Necro is at Paragon Level 809. I don't use any "meta build" so my damage is still pretty low for the last difficulty (T16) but T15 is now pretty easy. Chance for Primals is all I wanted. The chance is really low, but I have gotten a few.1 point

we got a couple beatings as a kid, but wouldn't have been for something such as cheating at school, or so we s'pose since it never were an issue. in retrospect, we woulda' preferred beatings to our ordinary punishment. when we done wrong our grandfather would stare at us with a look o' hard stony judgement, but as to our mistake he would likely remain as silent as a notre dame gargoyle. instead o' verbal excoriating, our grandfather would assign us a chore, such as digging a drainage trench in near frozen soil, or fixing fence lines in snow/rain or whatever. after many hours/days o' soul crushing labor, we would be asked what we done wrong and how we would fix wrong. bad answer meant we got more hours/days o' chore. cycle would repeat until it were Gromnir who came up with the answers our grandfather wanted to hear. hurl telling his daughter to apologize wouldn't happen 'cause is something Gromnir would need intuit. hurl's daughter implying the teacher's use o' "retard" somehow justified the wrong would get us more sweat, shivering, blisters and/or bone wearying fatigue. 'course Gromnir were never a teenage girl and hurl is not a crusty old oglala on a small ranch in the dakotas during the 70s and 80s. ... we did get a couple beatings for not proper taking care o' livestock/animals. improper care o' animals were 'bout the only thing which ever got us a brief and memorable beating. our mother would yell at us and we did once get a backhand from our father when we "talked back." *shrug* cheating weren't gonna be a thing for us. were never even a thing we considered before college. gonna admit to being tempted once or twice in university/grad school/law school, but we were especial protective o' our academic reputation; as a minority student in the 80s/90s, there were more than a few tucker carlson types who assumed we had not earned our seat at boalt. cheat woulda' been giving legitimacy to the claims o' such dirtbags and we had a chip on our shoulder the size o' olympus mons. dunno. am unsure how teens view academic cheating nowadays. cindy makes a social media posts suggesting kim is trying to steal wendy's boyfriend and am suspecting we got war of the roses 2022. "o', i have lost my reputation! i have lost the immortal part of myself, and what remains is bestial."-- othello, act 2, scene 3. kids is just as concerned (more) 'bout their reputation today as when we were a teenager. am nevertheless baffled by what the new generations believe is worth fighting to protect, and have always been unnerved by teenage "reasoning." HA! Good Fun!1 point

Speaking of Atlantic, I like this piece of theirs: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/03/putin-doesnt-realize-how-much-warfare-has-changed/627600/ Makes sense when you remember how great patriotic war was probably the most important part of sovietistan's religion that transitioned to russia wholesale, and how that ugly botoxed midget waxes nostalgic about that era. Girkin is, of course, irredeemable piece of filth who deserves the suicide a la russe, aka falling out of the window as many times as it is necessary for success, but his bluntness, lets say, stands out in Orwellian insanity that seem to have enveloped that forsaken 1/6th of landmass, I give him that.1 point

To paraphrase Garak: "Are you sure that's the point, teacher?" Maybe she just needs to get better at cheating.1 point

Back to Hades. I kinda suck at it with the default weapon and much prefer the gun or spear, but it is something that I find really fun to play. Finished the replay of PoE. It was pretty fun, even though it feels like I exploited some things (namely Priest accuracy stacking) to **** the balance up, but I don't care. Deadfire. Just started, but the music and aesthetics are probably the best out of any party-based RPG I've played.1 point

So I search the entire map in Control just to get to the research sector. In the end I can't find it so I check YouTube. Turns out you just have to turn around, walk down the hallway and take the elevator. The mini map in this game is awful. It payed off to wait and play it on the PS5 though. 60fps ftw!1 point

I preferred Oblivion over Skyrim. But I think I only used one or two mods. I'm a mod minimalist.1 point

So you will not be playing Oblivion, you will be installing mods and trying to get the load order just right so the game will not crash on startup, and when it launches try to figure out why all npcs are in t-pose.1 point

So now you'll play Shadows? Coteries had some interesting character exploration of your coterie members. But the 0 agency of the player and singular ending was rather disappointing. Sadly Shadows, while giving the possibility of different endings, was a lot less interesting, with the feeling that you did fewer meaningful things on the way. Heart of the Forest (different devs and werewoofs instead of vampires) was so much better than either.1 point
