  2. Boneless...did you just say BONELESS!? Those are just grownup chicken nuggets! *throws @BruceVC down the well* I kid, I kid. Ive never ordered boneless wings so Im not sure how many I could eat. Regarding a traditional drums and flats plate, I usually eat 8-10. But the most important thing for me about wings is the skin. Its got to be crispy.

  4. Yes "boneless wings" is a misnomer. I mean, they are indeed boneless, but there's nothing wings about them. They are glorified chicken nuggets. Nothing wrong with nuggets, though. I generally prefer actual wings, bones and all. One of the main reasons is that they're not breaded... Okay, some people bread them, I sure as hell don't. Besides buffalo wings (I don't go nuclear hot, but I like a decent bit of heat to them), which are classic, I very much like garlic parmesan wings and teriyaki wings.

  8. Hi everyone, So I'm definitely very late to the party on this and I'm ready to own it - just wanted to share some fun if that can give anyone ideas . After many contributors here mentioned how much they love the Chanter's "Thick Grew Their Tongue" Chant coupled with "Their Champion" Invocation to get a straight-forward, outstanding AoE perma-Interrupt toon, I wanted to tinker with it on a solo SC Troubadour. My idea was simple and built upon some know synergies: Wield Sacha's Scimitar, later dual wield with The Weyc's Wand Just literally sing one chant: "Thick Grew Their D... errr, Tongue" with Brisk Recitation On Cast Empowered "Far From Defeated" (the upgrade from "Their Champion") at the beginning of the encounter Now, we're removing Concentration and Interrupting everyone with Energized in a huge AoE every 3 sec AND... Between Sacha's Scimitar "Refreshing Finale" and the "Far From Defeated" perks, we get 6 phrases back instantly So we follow up immediately with "They Did Sing a Song" or "Eld Nary's Curse" or "Her Tears Felt Like Rain" or the good ol' "Her Revenge" x2 depending on the situation If we are dual-wielding The Weyc's Wand, with "Attuned Channel" everything we're doing at this point is at +3PL This works really well, more or less from level 11 on (!), but requires a bit more work and art in Solo Upscaled PotD to be something that I want to continue on a full solo playthrough. However, oh boy... in a party this is outstanding. The "Interrupt everyone every 3s" loop is a bit too tight Solo to guarantee invulnerability against big, tough crowds. But when you have a team to spread out incoming attacks, it is very good. And after that, you have all the usual Chanter awesomeness and versatility on top. Happy to hear if you have other thoughts. Cheers!

  9. I just wanted to say big thank you Obsidian for making one of best games I ever played in my 20+ year gaming experience. I was very surprised when I heard that sales did not come as well as scores from reviewers and users, which really made me sad and I understand why PoE 3 may not happen in similar gameplay style. I would like to point what exactly made this game my personal ultimate turn based tactical rpg for now, but surely not everyone will agree with some of them due to different preferences. Similar games I already played (sorted by most liked): Divine Divinity Original Sin 2, Jagged Alliance 2, Temple Of Elemental Evil, Wizardry 8, Planescape Torment, Baldurs Gate 1-2, Dragon Age 1, Wasteland 2, and many less popular/liked indie/older TB/RPG games. * Real-Time With Pause / Turn-Based (choice). I am fine with RTWP, but definitely a big fan of turn based. What made PoE 2 so special, is fact that it gives you a choice between these two modes, so both preference sides might be happy. Some gamers will reject right away even a great game, just because of this one thing, they do not like RTWP or TB. This is first game that I found with such feature (not counting Fallout Tactics or later update of Pathfinder series) and doing it so well. Yes, I saw that this update was nothing special for many players, but this was mainly voice from RTWP people or PoE 1 familiar (used to it). From point of view by turn based fan who played PoE 2 in TB mode as first playthrough and compared it to many other TB games, even if PoE 2 was not originally made for TB foundations, it was converted very well (I am not comparing it directly to RTWP mode, it is just like I see it as TB only). PoE 2 has great potential in their detailed combat gameplay mechanics, so TB update was great move, but I guess too late. Most important was first impression before and during release. You see, I heard about Deadfire, but after PoE 1, it was not on my priority list. Then I heard about TB update somewhere just by accident (what? PoE 2 TB? it can not be true! I must check it!) a few months ago (about 3+ years after release and 2+ years after update). I will not comment here if TB is better than RTWP, it is all about giving a choice, well done in both modes (I assume from reviews that RTWP is good for RTWP players). It is just preference, each mode has its advantages and disadvantages, each gamer will have their own. * Level Scaling (choice). I am fine with fixed difficulty, but definitely a big fan of level scaling. What made PoE 2 so special, is again fact that it gives you a choice between these two modes, so both preference sides might be happy. I did not notice such feature in other games (did I miss something? maybe hidden deeply in game options?). I know that probably most players hate level scaling (infamous Oblivion and similar - personally it was advantage for me), but I am the one from that other side. I like when game keeps challenge (no matter if I am too late for the party due to my higher level progressed in other quests) and I am not wasting time on not intersting too easy encounters, even if loot or experience reward is not worth it. I also like exploration freedom, so if game is "non linear" (in fact, semi non linear) open world, then I can truly go almost everywhere in my own order of adventure, not just where game forces me linearly in (semi) "open world", but sure, it is still limited by some other quests (for example you can not leave first island right away). Is level scaling better than fixed difficulty, depends on preference. What matters here, is again a choice. * Ready and custom companions (choice). I am fine with ready companions, but definitely a big fan of possibility to make fully customized ones. What made PoE 2 so special, is again fact that it gives you a choice between these two concepts (including mixing), so both preference sides might be happy. Most games offer ready or custom companions only (there are some exceptions, where you start custom party and get additional ready companions later, sometimes temporary). I personally prefer own custom party that fits my vision (and possibly can be extented by later ready members), even in a cost of losing some content of the game. Additionally, players who want only story related companions with rich personality, might be interested in second play with experimental custom party. What is better, depends on preference, but what matters here, is again a choice. * Full control and auto AI (choice). I am completely not a fan of auto play, and I always want full control over all party members. What made PoE 2 so special, is again fact that it gives you a choice between these two concepts (including mixing), so both preference sides might be happy. Some games give only full control, some give only auto AI (as far as I remember, Fallout 1-2? yeah, some of you probably "love" when companions break your tactical plan, some maybe count it as rpg personality), and some gives you few default AI behaviors that can be modified with your control in cases when needed. What is better, depends on preference, but what matters here, is again a choice. * Own, interesting, thoughtful, detailed, useful, mechanics system. What can I say here, to not go with too much information that would look like whole wiki for the game? Earlier, Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 was my best bet as foundaments for interesting/thoughtful/detailed mechanics system (yes, I know 5.0 is most loved right now, but it borrowed what was most important in 3.5 and simplified the rest - definitely better for pen and paper easier play improvement, but for games it depends on preference). DnD 2.0 was too simple (not many useful choices during level up, not many abilities during combat except spells limited by resting). Other custom systems were usually heavy inspired by DnD or badly balanced (many useless things) or not much detailed (just hit, damage, no flanking, no disengaging attacks, very few statuses, very few useful abilities, not much meaning damage types, completely dump stats for classes, no multi-classes, item type limits per class, and similar things). PoE 2 seems to be inspired by DnD like other rpg games, but has a lot of own, interesting, thoughtful, detailed, and useful ideas in whole system. I guess not everyone will enjoy complexity (due to not much time, only story focused, only want to relax, only like to just hit things, or other reasons) with many aspects and usable abilitity choices during combat, which of course has a meaning mainly on highest difficulty or when someone like to plan best possible strategy/tactics/puzzle (even for simple encounter, additional challenge, how to do it without losing any health or in less turns as possible). Now, other advantages. * Weapon alternative modes (modals) and 2-4 possible sets. This brings nice variety into weapons (and also shields) and more options during combat. * Enemy weaknesses and strengths. Most enemies seem to have 1-2 damage type vulnerabilities and resistances (this also brings some variety into armors). * "Choose Your Own Adventure" books inspired events. Cool addition to gameplay, extended with atmospheric sounds and illustrations. * Ship management. Another cool addition to gameplay, giving extra place to manage. * 5 switchable difficulty modes. I am not sure if anyone tried first two easy modes (maybe for RTWP pace it makes sense), since normal seems to be already easy mode and veteran like normal, when compared to other games, but well, 5 possibilities to get your best fit is better than usual 2 or 3 (where normal is sometimes too easy and hard might be too hard), including option to change it during play, so you do not have to start from the beginning. * Graphic style. I am not a target of all this fashion for colorful/flashy/cartoonish/caricature/childish graphic styles (it rejects me from the start, no matter how good game mechanics are), so I prefer look that is closer (can be slightly mixed, since it is about magic and creatures) to natural/realistic and thankfully PoE 2 does it well enough. * Voiced dialogues. For comfort reason and PoE 2 english voice acting is well enough. Now, some disadvantages. * Difficulty. Not sure about RTWP, but for TB, game seems to be definitely too easy, making actually highest difficulty the only reasonable choice, even for first time PoE player (maybe Veteran if someone never played TB games before). Seriously, I do not feel like I am hardcore gamer, but when I compare other TB games, normal feels like easy enough for all easy modes, veteran maybe like very forgiving normal, and highest like some challenge, but thankfully, it can be changed. * Description details. While description interface is nicely done, descriptions itself in 1 per about 4 times, are lack in details like numbers (for example, "better accuracy", but how much exactly? +5? +10? sometimes it is mentioned, sometimes not), explanation (for example, what are some key differences between summons) or additional effects (sometimes some effects are not mentioned or their work not precised, so you realize it with surprise after use). It often forced me to minimize game and use wiki or sometimes even precise google search, to know more. And you, what makes this game so special for you or what things are made better, when compared to other similar games (I guess there were already many posts about it, but I would appreciate some discussion here)?

  10. @majestic It's also a really short show... Imagine if something of Sakura's length and tone* slowly pulled off a dark shift like that over the entire course of the show. Dang, that'd be awesome. *...And art style, and animation, and writing quality, and character quality, and individual episode quality...okay, yeah, I think you get the point. I mean, it doesn't have to be exactly Sakura's tone, either, but something that starts out relatively wholesome but definitely good like Sakura could be the perfect vessel for a really messed up subversion, if it wasn't just stupid nonsense for the sake of being stupid nonsense**. I guess it's something that can really only happen in a movie most of the time because of how much it would mess with your target audience. But if Steven Universe can go from a show that's about eating popcorn on waffles and fish heads on pizza to something altogether a bit more serious like it did, I feel like it could be successfully done somehow. Why do most shows always leave us wanting for somewhere between a little and a lot more? I also can't help but think of your theoretical Miyu re-imagination/sequel here... **

  11. It felt really out of place, in Love Live! you expected nothing else, but here it's just really random. Everyone's been pretty creepy to Saya all the time, but not quite like that. Yeah, however, as far as these go, it's only the the extent of the twist that's ludicrous, the rest is fairly nicely set up in a way that's subtle at first but increasingly noticable. It just flies completely off the handle at the end, something Gorth mentioned, I think. It's one of the better actiony anime I've watched, which doesn't count for much. I don't really have watched many of those. It is also a fairly nice showcase in how you need to do a bit more with your characters to make a twist like that worthwhile, and Perfect Blue showed that you can do that in a feature length film. Not that I don't like Saya, but everyone else could have done with a bit more... well, everything. Anyway, after Blood-C it's probably Blood-C movie time and then more wrap up. I really need to clear up a few things before picking up something else. Oh no, wrapping up things includes Magic User's Club. Maybe if I stuff Pretty Cure into my brain, that will fall out? What do you think? 800 episodes of something I'm not very likely to enjoy?

  12. keep in mind am not addressing quality per se. if jesus showed up at simon and schuster tomorrow and offered 'em his personal twelve volume dissertation on christianity, with each volume far exceeding 300 pages, am suspecting the editors would try and encourage the son of God to condense things a smidge, and if the set were published as-is, how many christians would then lie 'bout having actual read the whole set? am recognizing the wot series were released over a considerable period o' time, but at some point the ordinary reader had to feel like they were being punk'd, no? HA! Good Fun!

  14. I like my items set up in a certain way on my hotkey bindings. I enjoy that I can customize their placement before I head out of base. I would love it if, when I go retrieve my items from my backpack, my items didn't shuffle around in my hotkeys. If I died I'm probably close to a combat situation and would like to swap to a weapon and not try to hit a bug with a quartzite that's where my weapon used to be.

  15. More Blood-C: Thankfully at least, Saya starts thinking about how things don't add up. To be entirely truthful, that's how it looked in my mind. In the show you "only" see her slashing the character stuck inside a web inside the shadow creature thing, an explosion of blood and a lot of chunked human afterwards, but the association came up immediately. Just finished episode nine.

  17. Yes that confirms what I was thinking about MC rogue builds- resetting the difficult encounters is the way to go - especially I see there are good builds about using SC Assassin (i think you made it) AH I was not aware you cannot reset encounters Ultimate - which is okay because I have happy with regular solo runs for now . I forgot about using Arcana- that would help my finish my current run (devoted/streetfighter) I do appreciate the simplicity in solo play. It really lets you focus on the items and skills in a unique way. Honestly, I was thinking of SC Bloodmage first, but I decided to be a Swashbuckler. In RPGs , I am always partial to wizards/mages haha. In my other genre of games (FPS) I do not have that luxury. I will have to check out your Bloodmage guide. Nice Taken reference LOL. That is a great point about using withdraw- a really great spell. I will think about using the scrolls in my current run to make it through some difficult encounters with mages- Arcane Dampener is a really party pooper. May I ask which class you did for the ultimate? i am always curious about people's approaches. That sounds like fun for an assassin class. The alpha strike strategy sounds like a really satisfying , stealthy approach. SC FF monk is so fun too! WoTW is a real treat haha. Monks are just great overall. Swasbuckler has not been too bad thus far, but late game I am going to need to reset encounters or use Arcana, both of which are viable strats. Honestly, however, the encounters are a bit boring lol, but I guess that is to be expected when you are just one character. oh that sounds like a fun build. What weapons would you use for a devoted helwalker? Hand Mortars? Does unbending always stay up? I will have to check out this build, too!

  21. Been playing a bunch of Timberborn. It's a city builder about beavers and your greatest enemy is drought. Every x in-game time a draught happens and you have the rest of the time to prepare for it, basically. Aside from the obvious solution (building vats to store water) you're also leading, you know, beavers, so building dams, redirecting flow, creating artificial lakes, are all tools you can use to store water (or just keep your crops hydrated) Wouldn't say the game is hard, at least so far, on normal, but you can get caught unawares pretty easily, especially when your beavers start "getting it on" and your population explodes. The draughts do get longer though, not sure if they keep getting longer, and longer, until things become unwinnable or whether there's a cap to them. Note the game is early access, but it runs great, haven't had any crashes or seen any obvious bugs, so mostly hoping for the devs to add additional stuff to do. Maybe add some more (optional) challenges. Stuff like that.

  22. I love wings as you know, many did you order and how many do you normally or can eat ? I can eat a lot, easily 20-30 over an hour or so with a few alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. And its even easier to eat lots in a festive sports bar or place like Hooters which makes some of the BEST boneless wings with the hottest sauce available called 911 and a blue cheese dip ....nothing better

  24. Flavor and texture wise, they're more like a combination of egg coated french toast (no syrup/sugar, obviously) and cornbread or corn tortilla. Hm, side note, I should try pan-frying them. They're round, very thin, slightly spongey circles about the same size as a typical cheese slice (except they're not square...) or maybe a street taco shell. The company makes bigger sizes and calls them cauliflower pizza crusts I think. I already use raw riced cauliflower stir fried with meat and sauces, it's great and I haven't missed rice at all since. If you want a calorie/physical amount reference, I eat about 1500-1600 calories a day lately, more or less. If all I did was eat these as is out of the package (no cheese) I'd have to eat 30 or so to reach that. I like them, but not that much.

  25. A Devoted Helwalker multiclass can more or less play the game by itself after you reach a high enough level. You have good hit to crit from your perception inspiration and can often chain loads of attacks with Heartbeat Drumming and Swift Flurry. The extra intellect makes Unbending stupidly powerful and completely nullifies the downside of taking extra damage as you effectively become immortal. The only real threat is somehow running out of resources before the fight is over though you do have an inbuilt Brilliant inspiration for particularly long fights. I guess Arcane Dampener can also give you problems by turning off Unbending. That's about it though.

  32. I have played solo with SC FF monk, which is overpowered as I know you know once you reach PL 9, SC bloodmage, and also multi classes with mixes of bloodmage, assassin, cipher, druid and chanter. Most of these classes have renewable resources, which help a lot. For the assassin builds I relied heavily on smoke veil as you discuss. I have never tried playing a swashbuckler solo; I imagine that it would be quite a challenge, unless it were an assassin/tactician. That would be fun I'm sure, although I've never tried it.

  33. To elaborate, invisibility is still useful even if it can’t reset fights (though with tactician you effectively reset a fight with brilliant) but most importantly Skaen gets withdraw as well. Ultimate (and Hylea’s) challenge requires you to protect Vela, and the least RNG way to do that is with casts of withdraw. (Unlike normal solo play Eothas challenge prevents you from resting to refresh vendor inventory for withdraw scrolls). Withdraw/Invis are such immensely useful tools for the Ultimate that I find it hella impressive everyone who did it without access to both (even SC bloodmage, however powerful that is, is gonna have a headache with Vela and no reload option).
    1 point
  34. Yes, Smoke Veil is the bread and butter for most solo MC rogue builds, and indeed it loses some of its potency in late game where you can't reset encounters. Then you have to resort to Arcana to survive certain fights. SC Assassin can do it without and is arguably the most powerful solo Rogue (and arguably one of the very top solo classes in the game, with SC Bloodmage, SC Monk and a number of Multiclasses). In my opinion, putting aside The Ultimate which is a very specific challenge requiring a "very specific set of skills" and putting aside abusing bugs like Strand of Favor god mode.... the big discriminators between classes in their solo-ability will be: can they solo the critical path on Upscaled PotD at all, can they solo the critical path without abusing Arcana all the time (the list becomes much smaller), can they solo ALL optional tough areas including ALL Megabosses (there it boils down to a few classes)... also several classes without renewable resources will only open up to solo if you do the god dialog choices in order to get tier 3 Wit of Death's Herald after Ashen Maw, which gives you a per-rest, on-demand Brilliant. As to whether Solo play in Deadfire is fun or not, it's really up to personal preferences. Personally I think it is fun - which is fortunate because I've played that way for a 1,000+ hours . It's a different way to enjoy the game, both the storyline and the combat. I find it personally simpler than party play. It just has a very useful mix automatically learnt spells, especially for The Ultimate. Wael is also quite universally useful. You can't reset encounters in The Ultimate. I'm partial to SC Bloodmage, I've loved most of the multiclass Bloodmage variants, SC Assassin is great if you like stealthy play. I've had a ton of fun with Mindstalker, currently I'm having fun with SC Fury Druid. It would be easier to ask what to avoid like a solo naked SC Mage Slayer for example!

  35. I don't know how much it could be of use as I only played solo in test/study runs preparing for the Ultimate Challenge, so with no Iron Man mode (to avoid restarting from scratch on mistake), all Magran Fires on except Wael challenge (to be able to see the stats) and Eothas challenge (to be able to try different routes), and the Magran Fires challenges force a play style so different that hardly can compare to play style without them, but I still think my beloved Psion+Troubadour summoner build could be a jack of all trades

  40. I really think deadfire is a more polished version of the Baldur gate series from my childhood. There is AI scripting, so you don’t have to micro so much which is huge. Aside from that the party management is easier, and the revamped spell system as per encounter is great

  41. yeah, I think a lot of players have to make peace with the fact that difficulty is a very, very wide spectrum for the player audience. Obsidian has said that their most common complaints about their game are: "it's too easy" as well as "it's too hard." I definitely am someone who thought Veteran even back in PoE1 early days was way too easy. But I've also internalized over the years that instead of complaining about difficulty, the better critical target is just making sure everyone has a good entry point. If speedy managed to find PotD a good challenge, then the fact that there are 4 easier difficulties shouldn't really matter IMO. I'm happy that the game has PotD + gods challenges for me, and I'm also happy that they have story mode and such. edit: more to the point, it's pretty commendable that the difficulties are generally well-balanced and don't "cheat" in a way that leads to other bigger problems. as past examples of bad approaches: games where increasing the difficulty gives you more experience, which also means you top-out faster and so you actually make for an easier or similar experience games like fo3/skyrim, where increasing the difficulty is a damage multiplier that is unevenly applied, resulting in companions that can do orders of magnitude more damage than yourself outer worlds, where the hardest difficulty has interesting features (like needing to manage thirst, food) but also locks it into an ironman challenge, instead of letting some of the survival challenges be available at "hard" or lower difficulties pathfinder, where on harder difficulties, enemies get high bonuses that are poorly designed (so they double-count in some situations, like for athletics rolls), which makes many gameplay types unviable for ppl who just want a challenge i'm actually impressed at how encounters actually can scale with new enemies or upgraded enemies, and that obsidian actually clearly went through with some min-maxing to make sure encounters and difficulty modifiers mostly made sense (even if sometimes i wonder what glutton for punishment decided gorecci st was a good first-ish encounter for potd ). took more work, but is a much more thoroughly well-designed game that attacks a bunch of different player skill levels. (and i've been in the poe-circuit long enough to have heard every difficulty level being played and enjoyed by players, so i'm not going to complain about story mode or normal mode balancing.)
