Well, for me, I can't mentally picture even like the faces of people (friends, family, whatever) I've seen a thousand times. I know what they look like, I have specific feelings associated with them that tell me what they mean to me, but I cannot mentally picture them. Even in dreams, what I see is extremely hazy and almost...shadowy? Like a great dark fog that I can't really see through covers everything and all I get are vague outlines of things. I still know what things are because I'm associating thoughts and feelings with what I'm perceiving them to be, but the image itself is barely there. The one lucid dream I had, which I cannot even come close to properly recollecting because of my absolutely lousy ability to mentally image (and so I'm more working with a memory of a memory of a memory), was the first time in my life I ever realized how incredibly vivid dreams and maybe even the ability to consciously mentally image can be for some people. Wish I had it all the time, . (e): To be in a dream and see reality be truly made in your mind as if it were real life...greater than real life even (or so I thought when I experienced that dream - again, memory of a memory now), was such an incredibly unique experience.3 points

The tunneling larva situation could be easily balanced with a brief stun period when dig up. Solo and new players are quite vulnerable to them. Considering especially we still have our shovel out and Their 3 strike attack can almost insta kill unarmored players. A brief stun period would allow players to run or switch their weapons. I tried posting as a comment on the previous thread but was unable to.2 points

I made six mason jars of pickles and picked peppers. I used petite cucumbers and jalapeños from the garden. I filled six 24oz jars with the veggies and dill, red pepper flakes, minced garlic and fine chopped Vidalia sweets. The brine solution has water, vinegar, sugar, pink salt, pepper. They are in the fridge waiting on chemistry to do it’s work.2 points

I don't know what you read that ciphers are underpowered, but ciphers are definitely not. Obv, there's the fact that even a multiclass cipher gets brilliant, as @Boeroer mentions. But ciphers have a lot of really good powers. Even a tier 1 charm is useful in to the end-game. an underappreciated power is Mind Plague - basically battle-wide confusion and dazing for huge durations. On PotD especially, giving a gigantic -4 PEN penalty to basically every enemy on the battlefield along with no engagement capability is a gigantic survivability boost; all enemy casters also get weaker, and in certain fights is just utterly ruinous (where enemies might have a weakness: intellect). I think the big thing to be worried about on PotD is PEN, because most cipher approaches require damaging the enemy with weapons, and if you don't manage your PEN and enemy AR situation, you're going to be in a world of frustration. If you don't want to micromanage that, a psion or a properly built beguiler can get you focus in less-PEN-dependent ways.2 points

Every class is usable, in a party some are better than others, in solo some are better than others... I never play party so i can't say anything about it - in solo ciphers have some of the best tools in the game to get things done. Charming is amazing, borrowed instincts is amazing - Disintegration is the easiest way to defeat one of the megabosses - build right they are amazing. Build wrong they don't do anything, a Psion that gets hit all the time can't cast anything, an Ascendant that doesn't autto attack gets no focus (okay, with one shot abilities...)... I love ciphers, but i don't play them a lot, i love chanters and forbidden fist too much, and they don't pair well with ciphers (okay, Psion/Troubadour, but thats the wrong focus generation for me, for a casual run)2 points

I don't think there are bad classes, just classes you have not yet learned to use. There are probably classes that are more specialized, but if you play with a party you can easily mix and match different roles. Having said that, if you are thinking about solo play/single cipher class, probably the most versatile (without strand of favor-like cheese) is Beguiler, Soul Blade if cheese is allowed If you are considering also multi classes, I'd go with Psion-Troubadour, with (to try an ultimate challenge run) or without cheese (for anything else) Also Ascendant-Priest of Skaen should be fun after you learn Salvation of Time + Barring Death Door (and a way to get brilliant)2 points

Heh, I could probably ramble on for a long time time and completely missing the point, because the things I like may not be what other people want to focus on in a game. There are a number of youtube videos with a combined few hours of arguments why you should play Guild Wars 2 in 2021 and they focus on slightly different things. The core game has a nice story (imho), combat is very dynamic and fluent. No romance arcs. I know this would be worth mentioning It does have plenty of romance, love, despair, politics, betrayal, racism, misogyny, hatred, wisdom, lgbt friendliness and bigotry. All depending on which faction, race and political class you're dealing with. Graphics are very nice. Not at least considering the game was launched in 2012. Something that mattered to me, *especially* after having played swtor for a number of years, is a very friendly and helpful community. Only exception I've been told, is the pvp community, but that seems to be a universal law that this particular subculture is toxic as part of its nature But elsewhere in the game, don't be surprised to see people go out of their way to resurrect you or pitch in if you're in the middle of a fight in the open world. Unlike swtor, the loot in GW2 is shared. It means everyone who participates get a copy of the loot. No rolling off against each other or the first one to tag an enemy gets it all. You participate where you can and welcome help when other people participates. Personally, I hate pvp, not at least because of the nature of pvp communities, but I do love what is called wvw (world versus world), which is large scale, open world pvp where you fight in a separate set of open world maps in a three way free for all, server vs server (the servers being the "worlds"). Large scale as in sometimes featuring hundreds of players, sieges (complete with siege engines and boiling oil to pour on your enemies at the gate). Another important thing for me is the story. The core story (the free to play part of the game) is great. I love it. Self contained and you get a closure and a ceremony with a slide show. But, Anet keeps adding to the story. Something called "Living World" which is a constant addition to the story. Every two-three months, you get a sizeable chunk of new story, missions, achievements, new maps to explore etc. The two expansions are for me a must. First one adds a new base class (taking the original 8 to 9) and 9 "elite classes" and something called "gliding skill". Oh, and a lot of story. *LOT* of story... as well as new events, bosses, missions etc. Second expansion adds similar 9 new elite classes and more epic story than you can shake a stick at. Elite classes are variations of the base classes. E.g. a thief can become either a daredevil (my main character) which fights with a Bo staff as a main weapon. Think Shao Lin style monks with staves. Alternatively, the thief can become a sniper with a long rage rifle and lots of stealth to shoot at enemies from very far away and the stealth to get in and out of combat when so desired. Similar for the other classes who now has two specializations each. A note about the living world seasons, at this very moment, Anet is running a campaign in preparation for the announced third major expansion (which is all East Asian themed) giving away the living world season episodes for free. Two episodes every week. The current season is available to free to play players too (players who haven't bought the expansions). They are normally available for free to players who have logged in at least once during the release of an episode. I.e. the 2-3 months windows where it is the "current" episode. People who don't log in or are late comers normally have to buy them for cool, hard cash. So if in doubt, I would recommend to asap create and account, install the game and just log in. Even if you don't do anything else in the game, just log in once a week for a while to get this first season for free. Then you can always regret wasting those 30 seconds of your life late if you decide this isn't really for you. Alternatively (preferably) you like the game and stick around long enough to play those episodes (which takes place immediately after the core game ends). Edit: I'm a sucker for nice music. Someone edited a number of in game cut scenes together, recreating the mood of the game with it's main theme as background track2 points

This might be related to saving and loading because I'm pretttty sure I tested this before and it didn't happen. Wasn't sure where to put this but I just need to vent and this seems to be the best place for that. This game started out so fun and one of the aspects I loved the most about it was that while it was challenging, it was still something I could play. Something my kid could play. That we could play together. Now 10 or so updates in, I'm staring at a game that is utterly unrecognizably different and there seems to be no regard for those of us who don't care for those unbeatable complications. I get it. Creative mode exists and sure, I could play that and have NO challenge and be fine. But easy mode exists too and right now easy feels like hard and anything else just feels impossible. I'm tired of having to stop building/foraging/exploring every ten seconds to run from yet another swarm of mosquitos who hunt me down for hours or a wolf spider who's suddenly spawning ten feet from the safest place in the game or bombarder beetles, who are somehow more aggressive than Stalin or starving or dying of thirst because every food source and water source is teeming with things that for some inexplicable reason ONLY seem to come after me and not the plethora of other options out there. I get it. I really do. People like games that challenge them to the point of near impossibility. I see it all over the map in the Survival genre. But it just feels like the devs are only making this game for those people and not the ones who wanna enjoy the gameplay without constant unyielding stress and frustration. I love the new build options but I can't build anything cause I can't collect anything. I had to restart me 60 day long game cause there were suddenly three mosquitos camping outside my front door that kill me before I can leave my house. Now that I've restarted, I can't get past the first lab cause there's suddenly a trillion more things to fight and run from than in the original edition. I understand the idea is that the game needs to grow and develop... But why does each development just seem to cater to making things more difficult and less fun? And I appreciate all the hard work the devs are doing, but I dunno. I'm sure there's not a lot of folks who will agree with me here, but I'm just sad that I can no longer see this as something I'll play often and I wish the devs would take those of us into consideration too, who click 'easy' mode and not chaos-have-fun-dying mode for a reason. Sorry for the length. If you disagree feel free to just ignore me lol I'm not particularly keen on a debate but I'd love to know if I'm not actually alone here...1 point

That's not a great example since Russia doesn't need to use IRBMs to nuke Poland as Kaliningrad oblast directly borders Poland. Any scenario in which Kaliningrad no longer borders Poland is one in which things have already escalated beyond where you can apply direct logic- as is one in which Russia is using nukes for asterisks and giggles as a first strike weapon. The broader point is that that applies generally- there's already other options for any sensible scenario. If things have escalated so far that 'genuinely' medium range targets like Paris or London or Brussels or Vienna are being considered then using ICBMs can scarcely be an escalation, especially since at that level it isn't just about whether the US will retaliate. Otherwise, close targets- and tactical nukes on military targets, not hitting cities- make a lot more sense. And in any case INF did not apply to air/ sea means that you have a suite of medium range options available, they just aren't land based. On the more fundamental level, there are near literally no sensible targets for mainland US based medium range missiles, so they'd be deployed to 3rd party countries. For most of those that will mean their chance of being reciprocally targeted goes up massively, not down. If you're sticking IRBMs in, say, Japan, it isn't to defend them. That'd instantly make Japan a target for China, first strike or retaliatory.1 point

well, it is normally a pure-caster build (with the exceptions of some hard-to-penetrate megabosses with which you may prefer to use monastic unarmed training fists) centered on controlling the battle field with always-up summons with brisk recitation and always recharging chants/spells, summing the summons damage with the cipher spells control and damage (as controllable summons make you able to use a lot of spells targeting them) while possibly keeping player (and Vela if you play with Hylea challenge) away from damage Basically you try to start from stealth placing a trap/a bomb, keep stealth at least until your perma-summons are up, then according to enemy difficulty you keep the summons up from stealth and improve them with fast casting of things like pain link (25% always hit damage back), lately Tactical Meld. If the enemy is not super tough/risky you can wait to have high focus and then go out of stealth and spam cipher spells ascendant style You have so many good spells you can try it's hard to choose, but as the level 1 is the most difficult as you can't respec it, I'd say level 1: Psion: Soul Shock, Troubadour: The Thunder Rolled reason for not getting Whisper of Treason from the start: at a certain point/focus level you may (or not) want to replace Whisper of Treason (pros: cheap) with Puppet Master (not so cheap, but better) The Thunder Rolled is a great control/debuff spell targeting reflex and it even does decent damage, it can get +15 accuracy with the update so it remains always good Then if e.g. you want to try the starting cave you can temporarily get If their Bones skeletons summon to attack the corrosive bats and the rest while you use soul shock for damage. after that, you may want to respec the skeletons with something else, personally I love the wurms, they are the summons I use most until the animated weapons are available Sasha's scimitar is good, least unstable coil is good but the most OP synergy is Grave Calling sabre + Chilling Grave + Grave Bound + Many Lives Pass By stream of skeletons, whenever you kill a skeleton you generate a paralyzing enemy only chill fog. When you have them your build gets 100% more control and 50% more damage other interesting abilities for next levels: For Troubadour: Thrice Was She Wronged + Her Revenge Swept, Its Crash Could Not Be Denied (more reliable stuns), Gernisc Slew the Beast (3 summons, always good with fire-sensible enemies, fast on swamp too, sturdy enough to survive a lot and not so armored to avoid being critted so good for pain link, especially with engaging enemies), (Oh, But Knock Not on the Door of Urdel and Gurdel for things not damaged by wurms/ancient weapons) , Called to His Bidding, the Ancient Instruments of Death for anything else, Eld Nary chants: Come, Come Soft Winds of Death, Thick Grew Their Tongues, maybe Ancient Memory in some rough situations (e.g. The Oratory of Wael to heal Vela from the moving ray while you are busy killing things), Many Lives Pass By (this one is OP) For Psion: Whisper of Treason/Puppet Master, (maybe Valorous Echoes too but only until you get Pain Link, maybe Eyestrike but cinder bombs are cheap and then you will probably get the chilling fog), Psychovampiric Shield (this one is good for a little extra deflection on start, less enemy deflection and lowered will to be able to land borrowed instinct on tough enemies), Mind Blades (great at middle/high level for super fast/easy spam casting on >= 2 enemies), Pain Link, Secret Horrors (control+lowering defenses), Mental Binding (covering paralyze until you get the Grave Calling synergy up), Borrowed Instinct, Ringleader, Tactical Meld, Disintegration, Screaming Souls (Mind Plague/Amplified Wave are good but when your skeletons stream is available you usually have enough focus to be able to use Screaming Souls) Passives: Penetrating Visions, Arms Bearer, Hammering Thoughts, Monastic Unarmed Training, The Empty Soul Modals: medium shield, flail, club, morning star, pike for more specific situations, probably it is easier to take a look at the videos. Apart the no-comments ultimate run upload, I'm currently playing with this build a sort of ultimate-like relaxed test run (you can probably run it a 2x speed if micro-managing of summons is boring, I am a slow speaker and it should still be intelligible), with no iron man/Wael challenge to be able to stream/comment and no Eothas challenge (but trying to emulate it), doing most risky fights for fun/challenge but pointing out those better to be avoided in a real ultimate run, and how to prolong out of combat positive effects with strand of favor like items if you want/need to cheese with them1 point

I am suggesting that when a player has multiple types of arrows in their inventory and they deplete one type during combat, another type of arrow is automatically equipped without having to manually select the new type. As for example: If I have 5 crow feather arrows and 16 basic arrows, I could equip the crow feather arrows first and enter combat. Once those 5 arrows are depleted I should be able to automatically continuing firing the remaining basic arrows. As the game currently stands, if I run out of one type of arrow, my bow is useless until manually selecting a new arrow type to fire, which is difficult/impossible to do during combat.1 point
-
I Absolutely agree. Some situations can intensify unexpectedly and you may need every arrow in your pack to survive. Running out in the middle of the battle and having to switch......well, there must be a better way. The wheel meu is helpful. And I am glad they included that option. But going from normal thorn arrows to feathered automatically would be helpful. Or if you have selected feathered first, then auto equip thorn arrows when the other has been depleted. Perhaps choosing only the specialty arrows manually. Just a thought.1 point

Yep. I have 2 events that are bugged in every game I have. Nothing seems to be time sensitive though as the icons don't seem to actually do anything. Also some of the item projects seem to be bugged as well as I'm always stuck with a few that I can't even start. Sosiel's quest is also bugged as is he in the city. Sometimes I can target the enemy units by clicking on them even though it doesn't register in the UI that I have them targeted it will usually still attack them. Not always though. I've been getting a bug with roving armies but as soon as the battle map loads it kicks me back out to world map and then says the enemy army has reached me and attacks then does it all over again. I can only get out of it by killing the game. So many bugs1 point

My first run with Sal ended at the boss fight at the end of day 4. I started up a run with Rook: I'm really digging Rook's campaign, I'm always a sucker for some double agent action. He plays completely different than Sal. In negotiations he can flip a coin. The act of flipping the coin has an effect itself depending on whether it lands heads or snails *snicker* and many of his cards have modifiers if the coin is facing a certain way, plus you can get different coins. In battle his pistols have a charge mechanic where your charges can be used with certain cards for a variety of effects and any empty chambers at the end of a turn translate into defense. I'm still getting used to all the different cards and mechanics. It will probably take me multiple runs with each character before I have some idea of how I want to build the decks properly, and I haven't even done a run with Smith, the 3rd character, yet.1 point

Uh... what would-be expert wrote those posts? Ciphers are good for PotD. Especially in a party (but also not bad solo). Ancestor's Memory alone is enough to make a Cipher very interesting for any party. A Psion with Ancestor's Memory and decent INT can keep a party member perma-brilliant. Imagine your fellow Druid to be able to spam stuff like Great Maelstrom without limit.1 point
-
Well, in Solo some are better than others but some are straight-up not viable no matter how you build them - to me that's a big difference when considering builds vs. party play. And by viable I mean able to deliver against the critical path, not necessarily to do all the optional content or an Ultimate-style run. Indeed Cipher is viable solo in multiple and quite diverse ways.1 point
-
Cipher is one of very few classes that were successfully used (by @abot above) to beat the Ultimate. It is the only class that can completely trivialize one of the hardest and most annoying fights ever designed (Hauani o Whe megaboss). And at least this last point has been true and known for a while. In a party, every subclass and multi combination of Cipher can be very strong but having an SC Ascendant and a Priest = party god mode with a bit of setup/management. Solo or if you're looking at characters' ability in a self-contained way, you can build amazing synergies around cipher multiclassing both to complement martial melee/ranged and casting playstyles. The only thing if you're playing Cipher as a Caster/Caster is that you need to pay attention to action economy and resource management. This is one of many reasons why Psion Troubadour in particular is highly regarded: it always has resources to do something fun - uses focus, uses phrases, uses focus etc. etc.1 point

Sounds frightening. I'm not sure what aphantasia is tbh. Like I can't literally see images in my mind, but I have no real issues conjuring up a workable description based on past experiences or imagination, even if I can't see it. Weird. My dreams come and go, I don't remember them most of the time but frequently wake up panicked or in the mood to **** someone up. The ones I do remember are usually very weird but grounded in reality, like playing Super Smash Bros with a gang in an abandoned football field with a pool turned fishpond in the middle.1 point

Looks like Netanyahu is gone as Israeli PM. Pretty big achievement being so polarising that near diametric opposites Naftali Bennet and Joint List join forces just to get you removed- and almost no tears being shed internationally since Bibi was near universally loathed by everyone. Next step for him, prison, with any luck. Then again, 8 parties and with the Joint List outside the formal coalition doesn't exactly scream stable government. You can pretty much guarantee there will be attempts to split one or more off starting 5 minutes before the deal was formalised.1 point

You want them to voice the protagonist and also have multiple options for voices? That is definitely not going to happen. If it's voiced, you will only get 1 male and 1 female. It would cost so much money(and time) to have a bunch of voice actors do all the dialog.1 point

Re: Obsidian and crunch, I think Josh mentioned somewhere that Neverwinter Nights 2 was a deathmarch, and it was during that period that he also decided to change the work ethic at Obsidian and avoid crunch at all costs. In that talk he does mention some specific people during Fallout: New Vegas may have crunched, but he avoided the practice where possible and for the most part that game and others since have been done with no crunch.1 point
