  1. In 5e using point buy, the stat cap at character creation is 15 + racial bonuses. Attribute increases are determined by class level (most get 5, Fighters and Rogues get more, split multiclassing is a bitch), and attribute increases can be swapped out for a feat (some of which increase attributes) which is the only way in 5e to get feats. There's a soft cap of 20 that is the max without using abilities or magic items, and a hard cap of 30. It's kind of a clustercuss, like a lot of 5e is.

  2. Every time the forum gets updated, it gets worse. Now everything is huge, except for the post width, which is smaller, and the readability of the post text is still not better. What's up with this huge block thing on the right side.. can I at least disable that? I'm not looking at it, I'm not interested in it, but it fills up 1/3 of my whole screen width at all times. I don't care who is the top poster in this thread, I don't care what the popular days are (why does this exist in the first place?), I don't need to always know the amount of posts, when it was created, or how much time has passed since the last reply. It's just useless clutter ... Same about the main board view ... topic list, blog posts, I don't care. And by the way, yes, I have seen the announcements, you don't have to remind me of them all the time. In fact, it makes it worse, because the announcement list becomes so normal that I won't realize anymore once there's a new entry. I honestly just want thy olde tymes back, when minimalist designs were a thing.

  4. I insta-bought it, obviously. I've played like 1h 30 min, but mostly fiddling with settings and making my first character. I haven't played DOS2, and I played the first half of Act 1 in DOS1, so to me, this is all pretty new stuff. I find that I have a real hard time with movement, camera movement, different levels, and doing this on my laptop makes it even more wonky. I'll report back. Laterz!

  6. Yeah, this seems very off. Is it for phone readability? Because its only reason I can think of why would posts on forum be only 1/3 of the forum itself? It does not make any sense to me

  8. DLSS 2.1 definitely has uses below 8k. And it's tons better than early DLSS was. Doesn't oversharpen excessively, for example. I might even use it occasionally for 4k down the road, when I start feeling like newer games are getting too under 60fps for my personal settings/liking etc, before the 40xx series arrives.

  9. This may be the highest price tag I have seen on an early access game. Are they certain they know EA stands for early access in this instance and not EA?

  10. Check it: The top one is 1440p, the bottom is DLSS 960p ->1440p. Both on medium settings no RTX. To me, the picture quality doesn't look like a significant difference. However, notice the huge gains in FPS (top left corner, white numbers) with DLSS, which IS a significant difference. This is a basic test sample, and would require extensive testing to get an accurate visual comparison, but I think this is sufficient for demonstration purposes.

  13. ^ I noticed the post width shrinkage as well. If you're still on 1080 it's not that bad but on 1440 or 4k (lol) it's kind of annoying at full desktop size. But I tend to size browser windows to half or 2/3 of my desktop size anyway. I do like that it scales well to resizing (to a point) so if I want I can have it be this tiny narrow strip on one side and it's still readable/functional (doing this puts the "Announcements etc" bars at the bottom, like on mobile), heh. I find default fonts on a lot of websites/web software these days terrible to read, especially using higher resolutions, and I force a font via browser settings vs. allowing sites to pick. Each update puts it closer and closer to the way such looks/acts on mobile, vs. keeping something that is more "PC-designed." Eh, I'm old school too, but I'm pretty resigned used to it by now.

  15. I don't know the exact amount, but you do get noticeably more loot from boarding. It's the difference between filling maybe 1/2 of the visible loot inventory and having to scroll down to see everything. Plus, you can get cannons - I've looted 3 Vailian Hullbreakers and a lot of lesser ones. But the way to become rich in PoE2 is to be a traveling greatsword salesman. They're everywhere. I've saturated the market so badly in Neketaka that I saw an old lady opening her mail with an exceptional greatsword.

  17. it is reassuring that the pentagon, unlike the wh, is taking serious and following cdc guidelines. sure, the vice commandant likely got covid-19 from the wh, as he attended a gold star event at the wh a day after the now infamous rose garden event. that said, charles wray and all the other military brass now in quarantine were wearing masks when they were forced to be in close contact with each other. furthermore, as soon as pentagon folks became aware o' a positive test by the coast guard vice commandant, the brass immediate had anybody who were in close contact with wray quarantine according to cdc guidelines. not being afraid o' covid is much different from being an idiot about the dangers o' covid. HA! Good Fun!

  21. You don't need that much INT as with mortars because you are only attacking single targets (no AoE). I wouldn't drop it too low (you don't want the afflictions you cause to be over too quickly) but you certainly don't need it to be very high either. High MIG is nice with guns. It's not the top priority attribute to raise (go for DEX and PER first) but it certainly doesn't hurt to have it high(ish). If you have no problems with class cannon builds you can drop RES and CON to 3 and put max on DEX, PER and MIG and the rest on INT. You will get down quickly if you get attacked but you can prevent that with Escape/Evasion/Smoke Veil which is part of the fun (for me at least). If you don't like that then don't drop RES and CON all the way. By the way: two items that you might want to have besides the Red Hand are the Sharpshooter's Garb from Maia and Acina's Tricorn.

  22. There's no "it now appears" about it. It was pretty obvious that the spread was inevitable after the first cases were discovered, and the White House's shocking refusal to help with contact tracing just compounds the cluster-foodspearingcutlery.

  24. All abilites that make sense for a ranged gun user. So besides the universal ones (that work with ranged or melee attacks) like Crippling Strike, Deep Wounds etc. stuff like Marksman, Gunner, Driving Flight and so on. I also like to have Escape AND Evasive Roll to be able to reposition a lot. Gun users can cancel reload and immediately use Escape or Evasive Roll to move away from enemies or in order to get into a better shooting position. I personally would also pick Smoke Veil because you can use it to instantly remove yourself from the interest of enemies. Unlike Escape/Evasive Roll where enemies still keep you as current target and might want to follow you (which can be annoying at times) Smoke Veil let's them pick a new target. That leaves you enough time to reposition and run away or to reload in safety. Usually a double barrage from the Red Hand is enough to end most single enemies who rushed you. Unlike Shadowing Beyond which breaks from DoTs like Deep Wounds Smoke Veil does not. So it's safe to use with Deep Wounds, Arterial Strike, Gouging Strike and/or Toxic Strike. SV is also cheaper and comes earlier. By the way: the Double Tap enchantment of the Red Hand will destroy two vessels if you use it with Driving Flight (and the second vessel gets hit twice by the jumps as well). I would always pick that one. But Arterial Strike + Knockback (although the weaker enchantment) is fun as well and contrary to Double Tap works against all enemies (that are not immune to push effects). Combine with Boots of Speed, Escape and Evasive Roll to let enemies bleed out.

  25. I'm torn. Baldur's Gate 2 is such a treasure to me. But Divinity: Original Since 2 was just... okay. I've got to hear more on the writing, particularly the characters. I've forgotten every character from DOS2 already. It's not impossible for them to accomplish it. Baldur's Gate 1 characters weren't so memorable either. Not until 2 made them so.

  26. Tyranny and Overlord have been mentioned already. There are also Avadon, Dark Souls 3 (2 of the endings), Prototype (not an RPG, though, and everyone is terrible), Furi (not an RPG), NieR: Gestalt (not an RPG).

  28. You know how in most rpg's you're trying to save the town, planet, or the world, or something? Are there any where you're the evil guy destroying them instead and you have to thwart the goodies? And not in the "your chr. can make Evil path choices". Like Dungeon Keeper/Evil Genius but more rpg or something.
