Greetings employees of Halcyon, We want to take this opportunity to thank the incredible team behind The Outer Worlds. It is because of their hard work and dedication to this project that we received the Best Narrative, Best Performance - Ashly Burch, Best RPG, and Game of the Year nominations at The Game Awards. To all of those who voted for us in The Game Awards, you are all fantastic and we are so grateful for your support. The reception to The Outer Worlds has been unbelievable to see, and even just being nominated means a lot. However, the journey isn't over yet as we are excited to announce that we will be expanding the story through DLC next year! Details will be made available at a later date. Now we would like to allow our game directors, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, to share a message with you all: We just wanted to personally thank our team for doing a wonderful job and our fans for their tremendous support. And Tim would like to say what an honor it was to work with me. – Leonard Whatever, Leonard. Now that we’ve finished, I expect that certain photographs will be destroyed, as per our agreement. – Tim7 points

trump being classless and petty is not weird. what nevertheless manages to bother us is how his base cheers trump's worst behaviors. that people who overwhelming see themselves as salt of the earth christians could embrace trump as their champion, and extol his virtue as he attacks anybody who displeases him, is disheartening even if it is expected. "we are not enemies, but friends. we must not be enemies. though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. the mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature." is no wonder 2019 republicans believe trump is a better President than lincoln. after all, lincoln sounds weak, right? trump being trump. is little he can do or say which we see as weird or surprising. would take self-sacrifice and compassion from trump to have us see weird. and yet, in spite o' all evidence to contrary, and three years o' constant disappointments, Gromnir grieves for America everytime his base cheers the latest bit of stoopid and petty cruelty from the President. am thinking the only thing which is genuine weird is we still care.5 points

Bit more than that. Too few overworked and poorly paid doctors/ nurses and general staff with too little equipment and not enough beds not just make everything slower, it leads to mistakes and worse results when you do get treated; plus a lot of talented staff will leave for greener- better paid- pastures overseas. Constant complaints also lead to lower morale and a perception that the whole system is imploding even if it still (mostly) works. Taking longer in a queue is pretty important in medical care, if that queue is for a Specialist appointment or an important treatment. If you notice a lump and it takes 3 months to see an Oncologist and he wishes he could have seen it 6 weeks earlier when it was still treatable...3 points

He could justify the programming part if he decompiled the code and had a look at it - while being a better programmer himself. Do I think that even one of those assumptions may be true?3 points

The False Romance of Russia by Anne Applebaum Having recently brushed up on Roger Griffin's <<The Nature of Fascism>> and <<Terrorist's Creed>> the following seems particularly pointed: And what has always struck me as most surprising about the "blood and soil" right-wingers' weird fascination with Putin's Russia:3 points

Eh, every time I write Sandler off, he pulls off some fantastically entertaining movie. Don't get me wrong, he's got a lot of hot garbage, but Murder Mystery was great. Honestly though he gets a free pass for life because he made Happy Gilmore.1 point

No, thank you Obsidian for your continued support of The Outer Worlds, and congratulations on your achievements with it so far. I'm sure we are all really looking forward to the upcoming DLC and are excited for any news you share about it.1 point

Thanks guys, but I've read almost the entire Star Wars expanded universe (Legends these days), so there's not much that could possibly scare me. As far as Sanderson's and Brian Herbert's sub-par sequels go, how could they possibly be worse than 50 Shades of Grey?1 point

Abilites/talents/spells gain +1 ACC per char level. This includes Bash from certain bashing shields and also Carnage. That is in addition to the +3 ACC that your char gains on level-up anyways. But only abilities/talents/spells, no auto-attacks (unless Bash or Carnage). Marking is an enchantment on some weapons that give +10 ACC to somebody who's also attacking your target. It's very hard to spot it in action because it's not listed anywhere during combat. Flanked is an affliction and does -10 deflection already, so there's no more ACC bonus for that. Some weapon such as Rapier or Dagger and Spear have an automatic +5 ACC bonus. But it's rather obvious. Chanter's offensive chants profit from one handed wielding (+12 ACC). It's not intended but that's how it is. No other non-weapon attack has this quirk, only some chants. Besides that I don't know about "hidden" accuracy bonuses. Range or so doesn't matter at all as long as you can reach the target.1 point

do note that the table is slightly inaccurate these days after several patches. I hate to be self-aggrandizing, but a more detailed and up-to-date version is here: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/227477-pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire/faqs/76599/afflictions-and-inspirations1 point

I actually kinda agree with a lot of your table. The one thing that stood out in particular is soundtrack (combat music). The PoE1 combat music is a running joke in my household because it had such a repetitive and unpleasant theme (coupled with my long playtime) that my wife will just periodically go "dun dun... dun... da-da-da-dun..." to sing out the beats of Combat C. Deadfire on the other hand, is perfectly fine (and personally I really enjoy the mostly-drums battle music).1 point

I suggest you read Brian Herbert's Dune books after. Since you seem to enjoy torturing yourself literature-wise1 point
-
I can conceivably understand the "writing" part, although I do not agree, but how do you justify the "programming" part? Can you please name three companies and three titles that are superior to PoE and Deadfire in writing. I would be very interested in playing them.1 point
-
Wait... don't you stomp with your feet? So to connect your writing and programming skills to stomping one would have to write and program with their feet? How does one write and program with their feet? Seriously this doesn't make any sense I simply can't... oh wait:1 point

Yup. All sides pretty much ran terrible campaigns over here in the UK. So Boris doing the "lets just get Brexit done" resonated with all the people who have just got fed up and frustrated with it being the only thing on the news or government for the past 3 years. Labour's "Great Wall of Red" the zone of seats that have been Labour going back 100 years has been shattered (or at least thoroughly nibbed on). The Lib Dems who who basically did the "lets ignore the initial brexit vote and get you guys to do a 2nd and 3rd referendum on it" got thoroughly screwed over - the leader of the party lost her seat. So now there's a Tory majority through most of the country, although the SNP (Scottish National Party) pretty much took over Scotland, so expect even more outcry for yet another Scottish referendum for independence.1 point

They aren't fascinated with Russia though- indeed the country itself is almost totally irrelevant- they're fascinated with Putin himself and, effectively, want a scenario with (idealised) US President Putin, ie an effective leader who 'gets stuff done', isn't particularly bothered with the niceties and doesn't take any crap from anyone while doing it. They don't care about Russia having a bewildering array of minorities or about Chechnya because they don't know about that, and if they did they still wouldn't care. They care that Putin took a disintegrating bankrupt nation that was heading seemingly irremediably towards irrelevance- which is how they view the future of the US if things don't change- back to the diplomatic and geopolitical high table, and they aren't bothered by how he did it.1 point

Well brain can be trained, and the easiest way how to learn foreign language, is to learn it while having some fun. I basically learned German by watching my favourite cartoons in German language, when I was a kid, and I have learned a lot of English from Daggerfall and Baldur’s Gate wall of texts. If you would ever decide to give it a try, maybe if some of your favourite games have option to switch to German language with English subtitles (at least for me I feel, like German language is closest to English, but other people might have similar or better experience with other languages e.g Spanish, you never know before you try ) , could be helpful to adjust your brain better to foreign language.1 point
-
I think you might be into something. Indeed I am sometimes looking up the right words. I write a lot in English in my work, but I need to speak in different language lately very seldom. One of the reasons I’ve stopped doing no commentary videos for myself is, that I simply need to train speaking, and this way it feels for me OK. I have fun with games, and still train the English conversation, even though I am only speaking to myself My best English improvement was during my Vanilla WoW “career” when I was raiding with English speaking guild, and they decided to make me Warlock officer and later Raid Leader, so I had to speak all the time but that was very long time ago, so I feel little bit rusty1 point
-
Hm, I kinda prefer it that way to the "WOW guys! Check THAT out! AWESOME! Yeah!!" fake style so frequent in YouTube LPs. In fact, I prefer when the player is completely mute, but if they have to speak, I prefer when they talk like a normal, not high on speed person. I think the "bored" vibe is mostly coming from the way you sometimes speak while audibly inhaling/exhaling, with the cadence possibly affected by looking for the right words? I've had people tell me I sound exasperated over VoIP because I tend to do that too.1 point

People wanted a game in the style of Baldur's Gate. Obsidian gave them a far more complex combat system than BG's and one that isn't intuitive (it MAY be difficult to gimp your character, but Intelligent Barbarians and Mighty Wizards are not obvious, let's not even talk about all the tank builds that recommend no armour whatsoever - this game is bananas, B.A.N.A.N.A.S. ). The game is incredibly difficult to master comprehend, let alone master! It surprises me that Josh Sawyer doesn't understand this to be a major factor in customer retention: https://jesawyer.tumblr.com/post/188915786456/will-there-be-a-pillars-3-that-is-not-something The game did what it set out to do in terms of creating that Baldur's Gate style of game, but I believe many players found combat much less fun than anticipated and didn't want to come back for that reason. I don't expect hardcore forum-dwellers to react positively to this appraisal of the game, but I think it's important to express it.1 point

It helps to read the books and notes. I try not to think of the books as something that is distracting me from the action. Rather the books are part of the exploration. Sometimes instead of working on a quest I will go to my stronghold library or to the Defiance Bay library and read books there. Also restarting after 4 months away and half through the game probably helped to review the lore.1 point
