  1. Nice. They can go for Paradox next. I want a Tyranny sequel, ffs.

  2. That's crazy! I don't think it means Obsidian gets another Fallout game. I'm not entirely sure what is means for them. It was kind of nice that they were really the main RPG studio in the Microsoft portfolio. What happens when the next Elder Scrolls game is compared to Avowed? Outer Worlds compared to Fallout? I mean, I'm happy to see both studios putting out games, but I'm worried from a business perspective the underperformer will be in trouble.

  5. OK, I STILL do not get how misninformation on social media is a threat to democracy. The elctions are still happening on November 3. Democracy is the act of voting. Not outcomes dicated by dumb f--k voters who don't know that everything on social media should be presumed false until proven otherwise.

  7. oh yeah, this one: i'm not very familiar with mods and generally don't use them. i'm like the worst person to ask. i do know that there has been some "full AI scripting" mod or two out there that greatly expands what one is capable of. In some of my more frustrated moments, this is the mod I most contemplate actually installing. (In the past I've used a few bug fixing mods.) I actually don't know about achievement-disabling. Normally I care about this a lot, even if i have all achievements, because it suggests to me I'm doing something I shouldn't :). But I clearly didn't have much

  8. i don't have much experience with scripting the attack command, i think the biggest risk here is that there's no way to do a delay, so assuming that this is a "always true" conditional, what could happen is that you do smoke, then you trigger an attack, but before your character has a chance to do an attack, another smoke is triggered, and then you do an attack. i honestly don't know. this is something that i think you basically have to test yourself to see if it works. if it works, great. if it doesn't, maybe you could gate #4 and #5 on having a target with <100% health (which would h

  9. ok, i've been busy at work so i can't really test this in-game, but after some reflection, here's my best explanation that is consistent with what i've done in the past. i think what happens is that the game is checking all the conditionals in order of priority (so if a conditional is "target" it is looking at all possible targets, ally or enemy). if a block matches a conditional, it evaluates each ability in order, and passes it a list of targets that met the conditional, filtered by target type, and ordered by priority. The only exception is "target type: self" which always passe

  10. Skarpen is almost certainly the alt of sharp_one, or somehow we got a guy from the same place with the same beliefs and has the same beef with Gromnir. Going by the Trump supporters here only two live in the US. You can argue that US politics is world politics, but the parasocial relationship these fellas have with Trump is kind of weird. But we are grown men spending an inordinate amount of time on a videogame forum so such is to be expected.

  12. Assuming Avowed is a Skyrim duplicate - which I never believed it to be. Obsidian gonna be Obsidian. If Avowed Skyrim game in a way Falllout:NV was Fallout3 then I think both will find their own audiences with a healthy overlap. Even so, who knows what Bethesda wants to do - for the last couple titles they have been departing further and further from what I would expect “Bethesda” game to be.

  13. hm, i don't think this is possible. the only movement restriction that appears by default is the "can break engagement or not" checkbox. oof, that is a very good question. i think the conditional is sort of a poor-abstraction as to what's going on behind the scenes, because sometimes it just doesn't make sense. I think what happens is much closer to your last statement. E.G. if the block is "target health < 50" and you have as action 1. "restore target: self" and action 2 "divine mark, target: enemy, prioritize by: lowest deflection" with cooldown 10s. the fact that the two sha

Although I do find it ironic how the Democrats decry the "death of democracy" while vigorously litigating to keep the Green Party candidates off the ballot. Since the 1960 election negative campaign ads have been a thing. On TV, on radio, hell in newspapers it's been going on since BEFORE the revolution. In fact if you want to know how nasty tings got google the guy in Gromnir's avatar picture. Negative ads range from being true (but usually without context) to laughably false and are paid for by the cand

  20. I got confused as on a one hand you say that there is some great problem with democracy, because people can target adds to the demographics they want to vote for them and that somehow dishonest adds now have some more negative impact than dishonest adds of the past - add control, then on the other hand you want equal time rule. The only thing that changed is that you can have better information on where your potential audience is. I would agree that social media should change their platform crap and be held responsible, if they have editorial process and decide what you should see and wh

  25. I think the current pallet limits are fine for early game. That said, it would be great if you were able to upgrade buildings later on, adding more materials to expand them. I'd imagine as the game is further developed and we can progress further into the late game, more effective versions of existing buildings would become available; like how acorn chests are an upgrade to storage baskets.

  30. I admit, that was my first concern as well. How will Microsoft view InXile, Obsidian and Bethesda? Small, Medium, Large? Or that they should all be one thing? Or Thunderdome? Also since they're buying ZeniMax, I guess that means they get alpha Dog, Arkane Studios, id Software, MachingGames, Roundhouse Studios, Tango Gameworks and ZeniMax Online Studios in addition to Bethesda.

  31. I think I mentioned there are attack ads locally attacking a guy for being a defense attorney (he defended murderes! Drug dealers! Rapists!) which ignores the fact that in our system of justice, everybody is entitled to a competent defence. Don't get me started on PACs. They're just an excuse to allow people to contribute more money than they're legally allowed to support a campaign and to attack opponents without directly connecting the smear and muck raking to the candidate, which is just wrong IMO. You can't really legislate to stop it either.

I recall us having a similar conversation before where you conceded that government control (in the form of police enforcing property and laws I believe) was necessary for your ideology to work. Does that mean there is nothing "libertarian" about the US Libertarian Party and (most of) its fellow travelers?

It's less convenient but it's a lot easier to absorb what everyone else is working on, who they were talking to and picking up bits and pieces here and there. We interact a lot on Teams but that's not nearly the same. Well and the other two guys have the video conference discipline of five year olds. The absolute highlight last week was a short talk where one of them went to make himself a coffee on a frickin' freight

Might as well tell a Bavarian he's German and wait for the reply. It's going to be similar. You stay in Lech, one of the most ridiculous overpriced touristy trap locations you could potentially find on the planet and think Switzerland is overpriced? Heh. Okay. Why not. Sure Switzerland is more expensive overall, but Lech is not a budget destination. Not by a long shot. But no, I
