Oh, I meant "stripped down D&D 5" as in "stripped down from previous D&D editions (and inherently so, Pathfinder). @Wormerine: That's well put. I think prior the only game that did this somewhat (albeit with a much more busy interface) was Temple Of Elemental Evil. Purely in terms of mechancis and engine, is was ace. Never liked the latter part of its campaign though (endless hordes of bug bears and the like). Plus the combat log was mandatory reading. Also, the main campaign is a fairly affair, but I have visited one location where you had two choices to tackle it (storm the front gates vs. find another way). Plus later on I could try via CHA skill check to persuate the Big Bad to just give me the quest item I was looking for. Didn't expect either. What's even more interesting is that the UI and stuff is also very robust already, and that they even implemented co-op as well as a campaign editor (Neverwinter Nights I hear ye calling). Mind you, these guys aren't industry n00bs. But still.3 points

US allows Chevron to resume oil extraction in Venezuela. A more practical squeeze on Russia than oil price cap. Not a big deal in the near-term, but if successful this can start making a difference a year from now.2 points

@xzar_monty, I have very similar criteria for my PC choice, for me including wanting to have at least decent melee capacity. Because it's my first time through I did some online browsing and ended up going with the 'Oracle Angel' build (half-elf; lawful good) from Neoseeker (side note: Neoseeker is usually my go-to for help with all the games I tend to like playing; the Fextralife wiki is pretty helpful too). It's a pretty good build: lot's of ways to smack down demons even while also being a tanky melee character. And Angel seemed like a good mythic path to take my first time through. I'd prefer to be more neutral good than lawful good; wonder if that will be possible with the Angel path. Re. romance, the choices seem rather limited: Camellia or the queen. Are you guys all recommending Camellia? She's kind of a lightweight in my party.2 points

I kept losing LAN connectivity. I went and replugged the network cable at the switch and at the back of my computer to see if there's any improvement (so far no more disconnects, which means the cable is up for replacement). Note to self: next time, turn off any running games before going anywhere near the Death Star's thermal exhaust port. Ouch.2 points

Well, did my yearly "let's see what's up with Star Citizen", and it kinda went like this: Followed YouTuber recommendations, tried some mission, bugged, only 2 of the 3 things i had to destroy spawned. Tried twice, same thing both times, giving up. Fly back to station, land in assigned bay, for some reason get ship impounded because blocking bay(?!). Lost another 5000 or so money getting it back. Then decided to try and loot stuff in a location that got recommended, firstchange my respawn point to nearby station, then fly over there. Server crashes when trying to enter airlock. *sigh* Right, getting late, better go to bed. Another day, let's try that again. Fly over to same place, loot stuff, backpack full, empty on ship. Disconnect. Lost everything in ship inventory. Great. Let's try that again. Fly over again, loot stuff. Don't put stuff in ship inventory because of last time. Try to fly back to station. Get arms stuck in front of face so have to fly using 3rd person camera. Game crashes on landing. Log back in. Am in New Babbage (my initial starting location) instead of the station I set my respawn point at. Lost everything. Loot. Gear. The whole shebang. Give up. Alt + F4. So yeah, "unplayable" about sums it up.2 points

This is really valuable feedback. If you couldn't find it at first after actively looking, it definitely should be moved to a unique category. ModScriptHooks is something I absolutely do *not* want people to miss. Simply naming it "ModScriptHooks" sounds good? Thanks, that is one of the parts I've been especially happy with Another plus is that it'll be more convenient to share scripts on the forum! Yeeaah, this is a nasty default behavior by the Gtk GUI library, though at least it's been addressed by the devs in a future version... I had implemented a workaround for most of the dropdowns, but didn't cover the listener/speaker dropdowns, so thanks for reporting. Lastly, a thousand thanks for all the feedback! This worked for me: Adding a ScriptNode child to the root node, moving it so that it is the the first child, and giving the following Conditional: IsQuestCompleted(companion_qst_pallegina) This way the conversation will never open if the quest has been completed2 points

So I've finally gotten around to playing WotR for the first time. Still in the middle of the Prologue but absolutely loving it so far. On track to be my all-time favorite cRPG. As expected I spent half a day just on creating my character.2 points

It's really not that stripped down. They're missing some specializations from some classes, mainly because those are not in the open license format, but other than that it's almost all there. Some of the specializations they added are pretty boring, but I like their character backgrounds.2 points

I remembered something I read before I watched the first episode of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon a while back. Motoki is eventually going to propose to Makoto. Which I thought was a nice gesture by the writers (considering Makoto is the butt-monkey of the team way too often), but this Motoki is a total moron who is constantly duped into accepting the silly home made arcade passes by the girls, so I'm no longer sure it was that nice a gesture. Man. I hope he gets something useful to do, or at least something to say that's not dumb. Sheesh, he just asked a turtle to go on a walk. Edit: Usagi has a pyjama party with Ami and Naru. Rei didn't want to come because she's Rei. Rei also had the good sense to tell Usagi that she should not force Ami to do things she does not want to do. In theory, this is a decent episode, but it's a bit too early. Ami being intentionally bad at school because she thinks that will make her more relatable to Usagi is pretty painful to see. It also shows the biggest downside of the series. It's live action, and no matter what you do, some things just do not work with actors, and Usagi's exaggerated mannerisms when talking to Naru are amongst them. The girls do their best, but that is also somewhat limited. Well, so far the series was rather entertaining, but I hope the next character focus episode will be better. Also, just when I thought the episode is not going to follow THE Sailor Moon formula, Nephrite and Beryl show up. Edit 2: Here is an image of Rei making her psychotic killer face looking supportive at Ami:1 point

You're at risk of taking things rather too seriously, I fear. This is not, after all, the Oxford Union*. Also, yes, one or two stones might be being returned to owners of glass houses. (eg I don't actually think that bringing up Kosovo with respect to Artsakh is whataboutism, actually thinking that would certainly be hypocritical of me. No, it's fine as a comparison. That just illustrates how 'whatabourism' has become a tool to shut down anything people don't want to talk about; though I mostly don't want to talk about Kosovo because it's been done to death and is of tangential relevance. But, bring up Kosovo in a different context, and it certainly ain't me saying it's whataboutism, eh?) *the Oxford Union debates I've actually seen have had rather a lot of snark and snide in them, but let's pretend otherwise for these purposes.1 point

@Gromnir: Regarding that "Banner Over the Citadel" / "Kill the Giants" quest bug upon loading a save, I am now fighting for Drezen and the quest has appeared in my journal properly and in its proper place. Interesting to see what happens, if anything, once I complete the quest.1 point

Surprisingly when you throw stones at people you get stones back. Also, are you new here? This forum generally is just intellectual flexing more than anything else.1 point

Yes, it's not a narrative game, just as EoB. There's no dialogue (options) to speak of too. The game has nice ambience, a great theme music, a premise in the form of a render intro, a pretty cohesive world for a dungeon crawl -- all setting the mood nicely. And then it's largely a Game Of Dungeons. Er, and Puzzles, actually. Real ones, unlike the focus group tested to auto-solve stuff in Skyrim et all. There is a narrative framework, and it works pretty well. Your party in Grimrock 2 is for some yet unknown reason ship-wrecking on an island -- and there's seems a purpose for that which is up to you to discover (a lot is told through documents/letters you find). Also, the atmosphere is excellent throughout with day/night-cycles, good ambience sound (some of those shuffling sounds of creepy crawlies in the dungeons made my skin crawl), and a big variety of different locales (swamps, crypts, forests, overland, castles,..) Here's a bit of early gameplay. Oh, and let me add another bonus point for Solasta. Making the light (you can also cast) influence fights against vampirish characters is just awesome -- e.g. they get -10 hp on each turn if they are in the light. Even though they can be lured out of the dark and into the sun during daytime a bit too easily. Thinking about it, that mechanic could make an awesome vampire / ghoul themed CRPG in an on itself.1 point

That reminds me. For months we had trouble with the computers where I work, we simply couldn't get any access to our internet, so we had to use different methods of accessing the internet, I used an open wifi channel that was only supposed to work for installing and updating servers and such, the others used a guest wifi and such things. After about six months of us nagging the IT department and having their best and brightest come and scratch their chins, one of the technicians that used to be our techsupport before we outsourced went and checked the cabinet with all the switches, changed place on two of the network cables. Voila.1 point

Those mothers are actors. They were already identified from other putin videos, shortly after this video released. Weird how they thought nobody would recognize them... or they simply don't care?1 point

This sort of thing is to be expected, of course, but it does look remarkably cynical anyway: Putin has met with the "mothers of soldiers" (an important term in Russia, as I'm sure everyone here will know), but these mothers were very carefully chosen. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/nov/25/putin-talks-to-mothers-of-soldiers-fighting-in-ukraine-in-staged-meeting Russia's dealings in Africa also look decidedly shady. Will be interesting to see whether they can recruit soldiers this way: https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-pressures-african-students-to-fight-in-ukraine-daily-beast-2022-11?r=US&IR=T1 point

Would be great to hear your opinion once you've got a bit further in the game. So, what kind of character did you create? I am playing a slayer. Two criteria that I used: I wanted to play a frontliner because I am the boss and I want to lead from the front -- so it had to be a class with good attacking bonuses and a fair amount of hit points. I also wanted to play a class that has Persuasion as a class skill, because I am going to do the talking and I want to be good at it. This narrowed down the choices quite a bit, and from what was left, I thought slayer was a nice one.1 point

Yes we know how you selectively reject international law, like the sovereignty of countries and Russian war crimes, because it doesnt suit your narrative and ideological bias towards the West No need to point out what is demonstrably obvious1 point

But why be as deliberately snide as that? If you wish to advertise your intellectual superiority, isn't this a rather shabby place for that? To me, that tone is just juvenile, more than anything. Nothing wrong with disagreement, and many of the arguments you present are quite cogent, in my view, but why add this layer of self-congratulation on it? It's so unnecessary. The arguments themselves would be interesting, but to respond to them after all that other stuff...? Why?1 point

My experience is with RTwP, not turn based. But you should consider any combination of rogue (assassin, trickster) and cipher (soul blade), also Monk (forbidden fist, Helwalker). They would all fit thematically and be very melee oriented. And you’d keep a lot of flex on weapons and equipment options. Trickster/Soulblade and FF/Soulblade are usually MVPs in their coterie. Lots of good builds for those if you search this forum and others, or just go with whatever abilities you think sounds fun.1 point

I find Grimrock to be completely different and more simplistic compared to the IE games around narrative, its not even a fair comparison because the mechanics are so different which influences the narrative Grimrock is more like older RPG like Eye of the Beholder and Bard Tale 41 point

Thank you indeed, Noqn! I'd like to add one thing in addition to your advice; is it possible to remove the NPC after completing the related quest? I found her GUID from here and there are many scripts, but I cannot know which script fit for the purpose... Would you know which one should be used in this case?1 point

I really don't like the 5E mechanics pushing rogues even more into dual-wielding. With the class only getting a single attack per round, and sneak attack only applying once per round, it means if you do anything but dual-wield, if you whiff your one attack, you're doing zero damage that round. You might be able to get past that by putting five levels into a class that does get an extra attack, but that's still a frustrating design, and that's before even taking into account that Solasta doesn't support multi-classing.1 point

boys suck at school isn't the actual title... and is admitted kinda misleading, but... counter-intuitive, at all levels save the apex, women and girls is doing better than men and boys in education and jobs, at least in modern western economies. am suspecting asian nations is not accounted in the analysis, but am having no basis for such save anecdotal which is now admitted a decade past current. solutions is likely to trigger folks on both ends o' the political spectrum, so am not optimistic such trends is addressed or even studied further in any meaningful way. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Storyline of Final Fantasy XV – Comrades DLC on my PS4 is behind me. After more than 18 hours of grinding, I have defeated Bahamut. I had a decent amount of fun, but Square Enix pretty much killed it with endless grinding. Especially if you want decent weapons. Which is shame, because I liked the combat system more than in the base game.1 point

So, how is your character? Class, race, alignment? In case you don't know, Camellia is a romance option. I'm playing the game again and yesterday I spent a whole night talking to beggars.1 point

Was also dealing with an issue like that on Wednesday. I also had some guy reach out to me about a ticket I created a couple weeks ago and ask if I had any updates. I'm like nope, no updates to the ticket that is assigned to you and I've not worked on. I can maybe provide some background info but definitely can't give you an update, dude.1 point

Loving the stuff presented in the 1.1 preview, especially the new expanded backpack and additional Hot Pouch options. However, the new Hot Pouch options, which gives up to 24 slots, are going to immediately negate the extra backpack storage for the simple fact that items assigned to the Hot Pouch still take up backback inventory. So the original ratio was 30:8 leaving you up to 22 spots for other items to carry. The new ratio is 40:24, only giving 16 extra spots. Yes, you can carry more items overall, but it doesn't help with going on resource runs when you are effectivley carrying weapons and food/healing items for any occasion/encounter. This is only exacerbated that when you are equipping different itemsfrom the Hot Pouch, they go back to any available slot in the backpack making sorting inefficient if not pointless with a full backpack. Clearly will see when we get this in game, and am optimistic about the new features, just need this other Quality of Life change to go with it. Items assigned to the Hot Pouch (or at least the "primary" Hot Pouch) should be set to not take inventory space. This would make them funciton like the Glider/Trinket as well as Armor slots. (Also, please create separate slots for Trinket and for Glider...please?...as both are often needed at the same time) Additionally, equipped armor, if broken, should not unequip and be added to the backpack (or worse if the backback is full, drop on the ground) and should stay equipped but lose all the benefits of it until repaired or switched.1 point
