  1. So I cleared the encounter. All I needed were two Paladins with "brand enemy", one fir the dragon itself and the other for the trashmobs after the dragon is dead. There might be a more elegant solution to this, but in the end I got Vatnir at level 6/7. So goal accomplished !

  4. Iirc, his next major bankruptcy (if one such happens, which would not be unlikely if he ends up behind bars some day) would be his fifth. Gotta give him, he can sell sand in Sahara the way he can repeatedly con investors into giving him money time after time.

  6. Go to New Park Pizza on Cross Bay Blvd in Queens. Thank me later. One of the very few benefits of living in Connecticut was that we had the second best pizza in America (particularly in the New Haven area). It's the only thing I miss about CT since I moved down south, pizza anywhere near that good is impossible to find here. The absolute best I've found in the greater Charlotte area would be a middle of the road at best pizza in Connecticut. As good as the pizza in CT was, it was still a step down from NYC pizza. Any time I drove my folks to or picked them up from JFK airport I ALWAYS took a half hour detour to New Park Pizza. Worth every penny and every minute. Note: If we have any New Yorkers in the forum they can probably tell you a place even better than New Park Pizza. It's the best place I found, but I never lived in NYC so my sample size is somewhat limited.

  7. i have to go to New York in two weeks. I've been to 39 of the fifty states and nine other countries. Never set foot in NYC though. Why the heck couldn't it be during baseball season? Going to be there for three days. I am trying to convince G to come with. If so we'll extend it to a week and play tourist.

  8. Own a corrugated iron shack. Have a dozen people living in it. Don't have power (or jack the lines to get free power). Get water from public access. That's how much of the world's population still lives.

  9. Ah, maybe thats where the difference in our experiences are. As a SC Ascendant youre getting a ton of Damage and PL increases that interact multiplicatively with each other, so that would jack up its usefulness a lot. As a multiclass non-Ascendant Cipher its very underwhelming compared to other spells thatve been mentioned in this thread. I do enjoy the fast cast though for sure.

  11. Whirling Strikes do work well with it indeed. I used the melee -10% variant and usually stacked 6-7 charges per use. Whirling Strikes do work with Driving Flight, that's why it is arguably optimal. Please note that the -10% stacks "additively" as stacking +~11% recovery speed.

  12. With single-handed Scordeo's Trophy and the modal you will most likely see the best results I think - using the -5% recovery variant which works for everything, not only weapon attacks. I mean it works with spells and whatnot, too. The -10% variant doesn't. The best way to stack it is using Wall of Draining imo because WoD constantly effects all new stacks, too. With Driving Flight it would be twice as fast. With Wall of Draining all stacks will get prolonged which makes it very easy to just pile up more and more of it. You can't get to -100% (not with reloading because the is a floor cap due to the reloading animation and not with anything because the -5% stacks aren't just summed up) - but you can get really low recovery in rel. short time, slinging spells very quickly - or when at very low recovery summoning stuff like Caedebald's Blackbow or so. I could also see the -10% variant being fun with Citzal's Spirit Lance. Maybe with Clear Out one can stack the first few instances faster, but with WoD you can stack a lot more after some time. Other abilities that might work well: Whirling Strikes, Heart of Fury, Barbaric Retaliation...? I can see Heart of Fury as "charger" - and then do very fast Driving Roars or so.

  13. These days in the UK it's called "Universal Credit" with a changeable rate that's constantly being monitored depending on your needs and what you're doing to satisfy certain conditions. Depending on what your savings are, if you own or rent a place, if you have dependents, if you're married, etc. All change how much income you get from it. Also, if you're claiming because you're on the job hunt there are things like regular appointments with a job coach and a journal to keep filled out with what you're doing to find work. They try to help you (depending on how jaded and senior the job coach is), and once a certain point of time is passed they will roughly tell you to stop looking for the job you want and just to take any basic level job. There's stages to it. Stop looking for permanent jobs at the next stage, start looking for short term contracts, start looking for lower level roles, start looking for the job as a shelf-stacker at the local supermarket... There are all sorts of hoops to jump through and evidence you need to show to claim more or other benefits. But yes, there are people that have managed to steal small fortunes, but the struggle to get the basics can still be there for the majority of people going through the process. If you're claiming for sickness reasons, again, there needs to be evidence from the Doctors, x amount of time to recover, if its a permanent thing there can be continuing evidence needed. There can also be issues depending on how much NI (national insurance) you have paid in yourself over the years before you start to claim anything. It is a deeply threaded morass these days. If anyone is reaaally interested: https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit

  14. Youre right, thats what were talking about. Universal Basic Income isnt meant to replace working for a living, its intended as a supplement to peoples earned income. For example, my lord and savior Andrew Yang, proposed $1k/month/adult. Of course nobody can live off that alone, but it would greatly improve my QoL (quality of life). UBI = universal basic income UHC = universal health care UFE = universal free education UFH = universal free housing All inalienable human rights. Well maybe not education, but 3 hots, a cot and shots certainly are.

  15. These are great ideas. The lunchbox especially would fit right into the games theme. Maybe make it so you can customize it to some degree, if they add something like decal creation feature. More storage space would be great on long trips. I still want the tension of not being able to carry everything, but some upgrades to existing backpacks or other bags or satchels in addition to what you already have would be nice. Maybe the option to carrying a bookbag and let's say a lunchbox causes perks like The Quickness to be negated or lost while doing so. You can carry more but you're slower or you can't jump and move as easily. This could dovetail with your build and load out of choice. So if you like carrying a lot and know you can't move quickly and be agile, you naturally will create a more tank character build to let you survive. The sleeping bag would be a game changer. I like the fact that lean-to's stay created and in the locations you left them, but like you said on long expeditions into new places it would be great to have the option to sleep anywhere. Maybe the bonus isn't as significant as sleeping in a lean to to counter balance it. The sleeping bag could use grub hides and fuzz or something. And maybe add a mechanic where if you use a sleeping bag, there is a random chance that you can be woken up in the middle of the night by an attacking bug. So you still have to choose your sleeping area carefully to lower the odds of this happening. Boats or kayaks would be so much fun. Like you stated, the parts present for other pond gear like the Boatman's fins are already in the game. They could add some more fear and tension with the giant koi by having it attracted to boats on the surface of the water. So you have your kayak but you have to be vigilant or you could suddenly find yourself getting gulped down by a giant fish.

  16. It cracks me up that people still worry about poor folks taking advantage of welfare, the dole, or whatever you want to call it, when the wealth disparity is insane. The middle class isn't struggling because someone is getting too many food stamps.

  18. SO5: It has it's own flaws, but I found story more interesting than SO4. But gameplaywise, SO4 was better game. SO5 was released at the same time as FFXV, and I found SO5 to superior game in every single aspect. Also it was for me it little bit less interesting than Tales of Zestiria. Which is highly controversial game, but I have quite enjoyed it. Hope this helps, although my tastes in games can be sometimes pretty controversial as well As I am one of the 5 people, who also likes FFXIII

  19. Thats a good question. I think it will help you understand my position when I say; I dont spend energy worrying about futures that me or my loved ones wont be around for. I only really care about the next ~60 years. So with that in mind, Id be willing to roll the dice on UBI, and if it works, phasing in other programs. Generational poverty is already real in the US and I personally know people that are poor, their parents were poor and their grandparents were poor. The US doesnt have to go full Venezuela to provide me my basic inalienable human rights.

  26. No way, Jose! With the fatcats hoarding 90% of the wealth we could totally make it work by making them PAY. Well start small with UBI and UHC and in a few years expand it to UFH and UFE. Hmm, maybe I should become president.

  27. No way. Jim Webb would have made the best President on the Dems. But he had no shot because he was a Blue Dog, Vietnam Vet AND a war hero (Navy Cross) and wasn't a communist. He wasn't into social justice and didn't think Fidel Castro was the greatest leader of the 20th Century so he had no shot of being nominated. But he would have been a competent and moderate President. Not flashy, not in the news every day. Bob Bullock in 2020 was in the same mold. Ditto for Bill Weld on the GOP side in 2020. In 2016 there were a number of GOP candidates that would have made a decent and competent caretaker of the executive office. But with the crazies controlling the nomination process candidates like that will be culled out every time.

  28. is amusing how the conspiracy theorists who so often see the evil imperial predations o' western powers as the cause o' every conflict, nevertheless look at putin and shrug off 2014 and the current mass build up o' russian troops along the ukranian border as nothing but some kinda convenient conjured nightmare feeding unreasonable western biases. is hardly just the US and US journalists who seemed to believe the russians were making aggressive moves, but the fog o' war makes many look foolish and is impossible to tell if s'posed pentagon sources were wrong or that putin has simply blinked... or if the s'posed russian draw down is even real. is precise why Gromnir hasn't commented 'cause the only thing which is certain is the uncertainty, and given uncertainty o' the situation and 100k russian troops as well as any number o' russian comments which cause greater concern as 'posed to dispelling fears, the reasonable response o' the genuine skeptic is to prepare for a worst case scenario. but skepticism is in curious short supply in the thread. 'course MAD makes acting on such reasonable fears a dangerous proposition considering that there were not enough time to discern reality before needing commit to terrible responses. HA! Good Fun! ps and again, us journalists citing, "pentagon sources say," is hardly pundits beating drums o' war. we can't recall any reputable US pundit suggesting that staring a war with russia would be good. report troop buildup and an imminent threat doesn't result in war being more likely. actual reports o' russian invasion woulda' been required to get folks on the side o' a military response, regardless o' notions o' reporter accuracy. tell us reporters knowing false reported an actual russian invasion or attack? then yeah, am seeing the point, but again, 2014, crimea and hundreds o' thousands o' russian troops on the border o' ukraine would make any reasonable person cautious and skeptical. power politics model makes doing nothing in such a situation naïve in the extreme. but am hardly blaming pundits for being nervous.

  31. Just to add on to a lot of recommendations (which I agree with): Chanter Hel-Hyraf... // The Shield Cracks: especially when upgraded, this invocation puts all of PotD in AR/PEN easy mode Not felled... // ...nor Flame: mostly when upgraded. Pierce/Slash AR combined is handy, covering many cases, and is very useful against ranged weapons because they mostly either do pierce, or pierce/slash, which this completely covers. Fire AR is also nice. Druid Woodskin: casts super fasts, activates Lord of the Forest enchantment, huge pierce AR increase. Also Fire AR is nice Priest Arcane Veil (Wael-only): back in the day I made tons of glass cannony-types using a wael MC. Having Arcane Veil at tier 1 means you always have access to it (though that is only relevant for like the first hour of the game [edit: though it does mean you have 2x as many casts as a wizard until the wizard gets to tier 3 abilities, so this early access is relevant for a bit longer]), and it benefits from various effects that grants +1 tier one spell cast (which gives you 3 + self-empower for 2 = 5 total casts). Unlike Wizard's Veil, it doesn't share the same tier with Mirror Image, so Wael priests get tons of evasion, whereas wizards share AV and Mirror Image at tier 2. (They do get Wizard's Double, though, which in some situations is way better.) Halt: open a fight with this (like from stealth) on a melee enemy, and you've immediately knocked one enemy out of the fight for a long time. Becomes a little less useful later on because more enemies get mobility abilities (like Leap) or have dexterity resistance/immunity. Wizard Eldritch Aim: early on it's a waste of a spell slot, but later on it casts fast and boosts your accuracy for better spells. Also great for MC when you really want to help some powerful abilities land. C O M B U S T I N G W O U N D S

  35. I'd argue that a dual weapon setup would be better with a Rogue/Barb since most Rogue Strikes are Full Attacks and so is Barbaric Smash (which raises the chance to really kill with it which is important for the refund), but it's not that important. By the way: kill by DoT (for example Barbaric Smash + Blood Frenzy + Deep Wounds) will trigger Blood Thirst, but it will not trigger Barbaric Smash's refund, even if the DoT was the result of a Barbaric Smash. So if you used Barbaric Smash and the enemy barely survived, he will die with the next tick, but it won't refund your Rage unfortunately. Also often enough the DoTs would kill weak enemies that I planned to hit with Barbaric Smash right before the smash landed - which costs the Rage but does nothing. It can be annoying sometimes. One has to watch that and maybe sometimes just switch targets. It would have been cool if Barbaric Smash put a short-lived effect on the enemy so that the Barb would get a refund if the enemy died in that short period of time and not only from the direct smash. But anyway: the combined DoTs in general are potent and cool. Like when you apply some DoTs to several enemies and then turn to some others - and when the first ones die from bleeding out you get Blood Thirst procs. Can even be used when fighting single tough enemies with weak ads. Back to single class Barb: I think players vastly underestimate the usefulness of either Driving Roar or Dazing Shout. I think a multiclass Barb is more interesting and often more potent to play to the way to the higher levels, but once you reach PL 9 with a SC Barb (PL 8 with a Furyshaper) it will pay off imo. Luckily, with all DLCs installed, you can play a fairly long amount of time after reaching PL8/9. Using both shout abilities in combination with Blood Thirst (and so on) is potent debuff/CC + great damage all in one piece - for only 1 point of Rage and short casting times. And when you are going against large mobs the combo of big AoE Daze/AoE knockdown + damage + potential refund via Blood Surge is so much fun imo. But... against single targets it's not that useful I have to say. Unless you use a Chanter with summons that you can kill for Rage (Blood Surge) and 0 recovery (Blood Thirsty). So maybe one has to be certain about the role the Barb or Barb/something should play. Multiclasses can be a lot more versatile. If the goal is indeed to use Heart of Fury then there's of course no alternative to single class. And in my experience single class Barb is good - unlike some other classes like for example Fighter or Paladin (when not using Devine Retribution with summons) - and it's worth playing. One last though: as I said one can do wild stuff with HoF and Barbaric Retaliation, but it often involves weird combos. For example when using dual mortars and also involve Combusting Wounds and Avenging Storm. That's not a very stereotypical Barb setup of course. However, it's fitting for some dudes - for example Serafen as SC Barb. But HoF is also nice for debuffing in an AoE - for example when using a Morning Star with Body Blows (and Spirit Frenzy): -35 fortitude in an AoE can be very useful. One can also combine HoF with club + flail and lower Will and Reflex by 25 in that AoE (cool for Furyshapers who are using the Fear Ward mostly). Or use Ngati's Tusk with maxed Survival and lower enemies non-deflection defeneses just by being there (Hunter of Hunters aura) and lower deflection with the pike modal + HoF. What I personally really liked in my SC Furyshaper run was to combine Battle Axe + modal + Blood Storm with Barbaric Retaliation and the Blood Ward. I needed stellar AR (Patinated Plate and so on) to survive all the initial melee crits, but all the DoTs I placed on the enemies took over eventually and outhealed the damage. Dazing Shout helped a ton, too.
