I always found it interesting that there was so much more focus on people wearing masks than on cramped poorly ventilated workplaces people who couldn't work from home got packed into to make the meat grinder go brrrrrr. For example, in California at least, line cooks had the biggest rise in mortality, presumably because of the rona. Perhaps this is because blaming the dip**** who can't put on a piece of cloth for five minutes is easier than looking too closely at labor conditions, which would require more than finger wagging to fix. Anyways soon I will have the microchip and will become a Gates supersoldier or whatever is supposed to happen.3 points

Good news for trees. Or good tree news: Eighteen million trees to be planted around Glasgow Ghana planted 5 million trees in a single day to combat deforestation and climate change South Korea to Plant 3 Billion Trees to Help Reach Carbon Neutrality by 2050 Plus three years ago I planted three Bartlett Pear trees in my back yard. They are still too young for fruit but they are all in full bloom now, Very pretty!3 points

I don't doubt the veracity of what she experienced, but my point is that private colleges and universities aren't beholden to the state beyond certain basic requirements (almost entirely fiscal) to meet eligibility for students to receive federal financial aid. A private institution is beholden to whatever entity backs it (if one still exists) and to whichever accrediting agencies they belong to. She's surprised they're 'allowed' to be 'anti-American', but that misses the point of...well a lot of things.3 points

the dogs are confused. the local farm where we buy most o' our produce from late may 'til mid/late september is having snow peas and corn in season. they got loads o' other stuff available, but the snow peas and corn is particular noteworthy. steamer basket a bunch o' snow peas. maybe we add a little olive oil and balsamic, but ordinary we eat unadulterated. don't even need salt for the snow peas. the local corn is the best we has had anywhere, and recall we lived midwest. microwave an ear o' corn, in husk, and then add salt and butter and eat from the cob. am not joking when we say that we have had a meal of snow peas and corn multiple times in the last couple weeks and we don't feel at all bad 'bout such. can pick your own vegetables on tuesday and saturday morning 'tween sunrise and 1pm, but there is a $20 dollar minimum. $.40 per pound. takes considerable effort to pick 50lbs o' vegetables. alternatively, a 2.5 bag o' snow peas sets us back $4.50. a bag o' eight ears o' corn costs us $4. down side to all the vegetable meals is the dogs is confused. and am perfect aware snow peas and corn is 'bout the least healthy vegetables you could possible name. don't care. add a freaking kale salad would ruin the enjoyment, though we do try to get some broccoli into the rotation along with other greens. regardless, the next month, or as long as the snow peas last, is gonna be rough on the dogs. HA! Good Fun!2 points

am gonna admit the first name we thought o' when question o' famous asian-americans arose, purposeful excluding actors, were fred korematsu. we realized he were not famous to most, so we paused to reflect... connie chung were next name which came to mind. no joke. michio kaku were number three for us and also not too obvious, but as a teenager he tried to build a death ray in his parent's garage and while he didn't manage to create antimatter, he did get scholarships to the most prestigious universities in the nation. daniel inouye deserved to be ahead o' connie chung. kinda feel bad he were not our number one. as for the @Darkpriest predictable putin fanboi post if you wanna find textbook examples o' whatboutism and deflection, then putin is a winner. some o' our boardies who indulge in such tactics to a comic degree no doubt found the putin response to be an award worthy performance. otherwise, this response made the putin presser cringeworthy. but serious, connie chung? early 2000s were last we recall seeing her do news and yet she were first to come to mind. HA! Good Fun! ps trump is still angry at cancer causing windmills.2 points

The designer's penchant for taking control away from the player to force Artyom through increasingly predictable and contrived situations was detrimental to fun, imo. Too much Resident Evil, too little STALKER. Also, QTEs were getting old by 2010 already. Do we really need them? I did enjoy the world building and story quite a bit, though.2 points

[CLASS BUILD] The Man of Mistery – SC Trickster Solo Upscaled PotD Class: Trickster Concept: Fun and Versatile Rogue that mixes spellcasting, ranged and melee attacks to adapt to each situation and tricks his enemies into certain death. Optimized for a No-Rest run. Game Version: RTwP. Works with latest updates and DLCs as of v5.0.00040. I recommend the Full Community Patch and the No Forced Rests mod (otherwise just metagame around them, it’s fully viable but just a bit annoying). PotD Solo Viable: Yes. Of note, I think this is a Solo build that is particularly well compatible with party play because he can do so many things that will benefit others. Companion: Nope. -----WHAT IS INTERESTING ABOUT THIS BUILD?------ Why go with an SC Trickster? As an SC Rogue, it’s probably not the strongest Solo option (arguably it is Assassin). As a Trickster, multiclassing is usually the way to go as it pairs so well with other classes, in particular martial ones. I wanted to try out this build nevertheless to see how much mileage I could get out of its unique access to high-level Illusion spells, notably by stacking as much Illusion Power Levels as I could while achieving a really cool, nightmarish style (see this thread) fitting well the fluff of an Arcane Rogue who vanquishes his enemies with scary illusions and deadly, freezing tricks. I was especially curious about using Kalakoth’s Freezing Rake and Wall of Many Colors as a Rogue. These are spells that I’ve loved since PoE1, particularly for their utility against certain Adra/Alpine large beasts, but in Deadfire I haven’t used them so much as a SC Wizard because 1) there is usually another certain Wall spell that I want to keep up and 2) there is a lot of competition on PL8 spells and offensive spells in general. All in all, I’ve found this SC Trickster quite surprisingly powerful and very fun to play Solo, mostly for its versatility and because it’s a Rogue archetype that doesn’t play exactly like a typical Deadfire Solo Rogue. Here are some key highlights: We reach PL14 on Illusion spells (we can even reach PL16 on Freezing Rake wielding Sun & Moon at night). That is a lot of PL, which combined with high No-Rest stats make all Illusion DMG and CC attacks hit like trucks. Huge AoE, nice ACC, long duration, large damage… We can then supplement that with powerful ranged and melee offense depending on the situation. I would usually always start with Dazzling Lights to lure/group enemies but then every combat sequence can be totally different depending on the enemies and layout. I’ll detail key abilities and strategies below. Because it has so many options, this build is the opposite of a one-trick pony and can actually stay in most fights for some time before resetting the encounter or abusing Gouging Strike, if at all. Even if in many situations on Upscaled PotD you still have to go invisible/resest before the end of the fight, I have found that you might reset less often than Assassin for instance, and can take down a lot more enemies than you thought in one go (ah, the random power of Fyonlecg's Wall of Many Colors…). Of course, it should be also be said that as a SC Rogue with non-renewable resources, completing the harder DLC fights (non-resettable, small battlefield, lots of enemies with lots of health) without cheese requires Arcana. But that’s also true for an Assassin. Or you know... abuse Strand of Favor and remove all challenge (that is not what this build/post is about, but it is a possibility). -----SPECS------ Race: I went with Pale Elf for style and +PER Background: The White that Wends – Hunter FINAL STATS WITH ALL PERMABUFFS AND NO-REST BUFFS AS OF 5.0 (without combat buffs): MIG 22 (15 Base +2 Berath +1 Gift from Machine +2 Alchemic Brawn +2 Hot Razor Skewers) CON 12 (3 Base +2 Berath +2 Alchemic Brawn +2 Konstanten Boon +3 Girdle of Eoten CON) DEX 27 (18 Base +1 Elf +2 Berath +2 Alchemic Guile +2 Amira’s Blessing +2 Footprints Ahu Taka) PER 30 (18 Base +1 Elf +1 White that Wends +2 Berath +1 Konstanten Boon +1 Effigy: Sagani +2 Alchemic Guile +1 Savage Cunning +1 Cauldron Brew +1 Ajamuut’s Cloak +1 Kuaru’s Prize) INT 26 (18 Base +2 Berath +1 Konstanten Boon +2 Alchemic Wits +2 Charm of Bones +1 Kuaru’s Prize) RES 11 (3 Base +2 Berath +2 Alchemic Wits +2 Nature’s Resolve +2 Rikuhu’s Blessing) ADDITIONAL PERMABUFFS: Food: Hot Razor Skewers Adratic Glow All Trainings Dawnstar Blessing Luminous Adra Potion Nature’s Resolve (Accuracy) Savage Cunning (Survival) Galawain’s Gift Magran’s Blessing Infamous Captain, Bonus Skills, Champion Stats, Port Maje vendor, Fully discovered Map, Bonus Money… invested all 105 Berath’s Blessing Points SKILLS I just spent between Mechanics, Athletics, Stealth and Survival, Diplomacy. Max Arcana temporarily for certain end-game situations. ----- ABILITIES ------ ACTIVE Crippling/Arterial Strike, Blinding/Gouging Strike, Smoke Veil/Smoke Cloud/Pernicious Cloud, Withering/Toxic Strike, Gambit, Vanishing Strike. PASSIVES Key: Backstab, Fast Runner, Monastic Unarmed Training, Arms Bearer, Two Weapon Style, Dirty Fighting, Persistent Distraction, Tough, Uncanny Luck, Deep Wounds, Improved Critical, Deathblows, Prestige. Optional: Snake Reflex, Combat Focus, Adept Evasion, Wall of Flashing Steel. -----GEAR------ Weapon Set 1: Hand Mortar (Blinding Smoke), The Eye of Wael (The Hundred Visions, Shrouded Strike). Weapon Set 2: Kitchen Stove (Thunderous Report, Everything and Anything) single wielded. Weapon Set 3: Monastic trained Fists. Head: Whitewitch Mask. Neck: Charm of Bones. Chest: Pale Hide (Ghost in White, Dread Howl). Cape: Ajamuut’s Stalking Cloak. Gloves: Gauntlets of Accuracy. Rings: Kuaru’s Prize, Ring of the Marksman. Boots: Footprints of Ahu Taka. Belt: Girdle of Eoten Constitution. Pet: Harley. -----STRATEGIES------ I’ll just outline a few simple example situations but there are so many fun combos to create and you can mix depending on the situation and the resources you have left (I always start with Weapon Set 1): Melee Style: Lure with Dazzling Lights, get close in stealth, combat starts, cast Repulsive Visage to Terrify everyone, Switch to Fists, Use Gambit as much as you want (you have 11 Guile ), reapply Repulsive Visage, Gambit ad nauseam and other Rogue attacks or autoattacks. Can also use Dread Howl. Works surprisingly well! Mage Style: Lure with Dazzling Lights, Gaze of the Adragan, 2 or 3 Freezing Rakes, mix and match with Wall of Many Colors and Thunderous Report for fun. Dread Howl can help if survivors get aggressive. (EDIT: one Freezing Rake can do about 300 DMG per target on a Crit, on average definitely in the 200s). Rogue Style: Lure with Dazzling Lights, Fire AoE with Vanishing Strike from stealth > combat starts, all enemies are stunned and you’re invisible. Follow up with AoE Gouging Strike (you have reloaded instantly the shot from stealth), Pernicious Cloud, Smoke Veil. From there, you can try to add an Arterial Strike + Smoke Veil or simply just retreat to a safe location and wait it out. Won't be long . Weird/Wael Style: Lure with Dazzling Lights, Gaze of the Adragan, Wall of Many Colors to hit all enemies, see what happens then and what is best to apply next. -----THE END------ That’s it. Not the strongest Solo build but really fun to play, especially if the unique features of the Trickster subclass have triggered your curiosity. I also think it would be an absolute monster in a party. Let me know if you have any comment or question!1 point

It was not roughing up, it was exploiting being stupid and asking stupid questions or rather saying a thesis and expecting Putin to tumble... You don't run a country like Russia for this many years to be taken to some emotionally charged liberal arts graduates and lose face in a discourse... But those journos are plainly too stupid to understand their actions and questions are idiotic. For people like Putin you need to be calm, steady and run them with numbers and events and let them make a mistake or slip something through when they must construct their own thesis. Latch onto inconsistencies, not shout things out. Outrage culture may work in the US, but it doesn't work even south of the US border.1 point

At the beginning: the thickest armor. Priests have bad starting defenses, endurance and health and this is very obvious in the early game. Never engage in melee first but send forth the really sturdy guys (if you have). Play him like a Rogue basically: let somebody else engage first and then flank. Priests should start combat with casting buffs anyway. Later with all the buffs and with more levels under the belt it's not that bad anymore. Like with all per-rest casters (who all have bad starting values): early game is harder but at some point they overtake everyone else.1 point

Yeah that was political strategy thing from the Clinton camp, as he couldn't be seen as the "President who re-lost the Cold War" if the Communists retook power, which was a very real possibility, but perhaps maybe not because Gorbachev was about as inept a Communist as Yeltsin a liberal, so Russia got a raw deal in that time period which seems like ancient history now, whilst the U.S. was flourishing on the dogma of wealth and individualism. I think as competition between China and the U.S. heats up, there will be less focus on liberal arts and more focus on STEM fields that promote technological innovation. The U.S. needs an adversary or else they just get silly and contradictory.1 point

That is correct, though the number after "Value": seems to be what actually correspond to the specific personality data somewhere else. The only thing stopping a personality from being selectable for characters is the "AvailableInCharacterCreation": being set to "True". Though the main issue with using companion personalities seems to be that most have what are called "props" (things like Eder's pipe, Aloth's Grimoire, and Xoti's Lantern) that go with their idle animations. Without these the character will only mime holding a prop object during their idle animations. There is a bit more information on this in the thread below. But the long and the short of it seems to be that it's only possible to give a prop to a brand new character, and each character can only have one prop at a time.1 point

Good points. I was disappointed Magistrate's Cudgel wasn't opened to Paladins and Priests when Steel Garrote and Woedica were introduced, considering it is a Woedican weapon, so I figured this would be the best opportunity to implement it.1 point

While we're on the topic of "wokeness", there is now a rainbow colored sidewalk in my hometown, which is I guess a small step forward towards triggering the rednecks! Something like that but horizontal not vertical, if the screen on my phone wasn't cracked I would take a picture but I think this is sufficient demonstrative purposes.1 point

What I meant is that I love the premise of the game, meaning the context of the story of the game. If I could pick any life for myself I wanted, it would be being part of humanity's early days stepping out of the solar system. Nothing that humanity has achieved before would even come close in awesomeness (for me personally) to our first steps beyond our star system.1 point

I found out there was more, the Underdark. No quest pointers pointed how to get there, no hints in the journal, it's just a locked door I overlooked in an area I'd been to a bunch of times. And now I'm finally done. This time the game told me so. The more I think, the more concerns I have. The companions are still "boring," but it feels like a quick fix. There's a common tip I hear in writing groups, cut your first few chapters. These characters need that. They all have hooks, but those hooks are all dragged out and locked away behind quests. So in EA all we get are the boring versions. We're getting Minsc playing coy about what's in his pocket. And that's being generous, because I doubt any will be Minsc once they break out of their shell. This is my biggest issue with the EA by far. And I will harp on it until it's clearly too late to fix, because it's fixable right up until they stop recording new dialogue. And even if these are set on it, maybe the companions not yet revealed aren't.1 point

Finally made some time to get started after buying it on GOG via VPN for the equivalent of about $50AUD (~$37USD). Bit naughty I know but I've never paid the full $90AUD RRP for the regular edition of a game and I'm not about to start now. Besides, it'd be silly if I paid full price now and then also bought the CE on actual launch, which I'd be inclined to do if the game turns out good. Strong "if" though. I probably don't have anything particularly new to say that hasn't already been said in this thread. Performance on my 290X is spotty (and using Vulkan absolutely tanks the framerate), especially outdoors. Playing co-op only and there's a really annoying bug where the game constantly thinks the other player is engaged in dialogue, which is resolved by actually starting and ending another dialogue. All this is perfectly forgivable for an Early Access game of course, but are the biggest obstacles to enjoying the game as-is. I came into the game not knowing anything about 5E (or indeed 4E) but it doesn't seem all that complicated, but then as a rogue there's probably not much complexity to be had. Took a moment to figure out the spell memorisation later when I got control of the spellcasting NPCs. I'm also failing checks harder than XCOM, and I think in the final game I might look for a mod to just make all the checks static ones as per the Obsidian philosophy. Another thing carried from D:OS, particularly the first one, is that it's not particularly clear at all in which sequence you should tackle the content. It's very easy to just get funneled into the dungeon full of level 2 enemies while there's still a lot of level 1 content outside. Indeed it's fully possible to stumble into it without a full party if playing single-player, because while all the companions in this version are technically accessible almost immediately, you need a bit of luck or foreknowledge to get the right ones for your party balance before blundering into a challenging encounter. If you know where they are, only one is non-trivial (by being behind a big fight). In the end, my biggest concern for the game remains unchanged from what it was before I played this version. That the DnD licence would be a straitjacket on gameplay. The D:OS games may be somewhat divisive for pure roleplayers, but as co-op games they were unmatched, and I think the restrictions of DnD mechanics makes the emergent gameplay lose some of that magic. P.S. Get rid of the stupid lootable vases already, ugh.1 point

I think I finished what's available. It's hard to tell if bugs are stopping my progress in some quests or if they're still WIP. I'm not thrilled by it. It scratched the itch of party based RPGs, but that's pretty much it. There's some curiosity about where the plot is going. Like the hints of Bhaalspawn involvement. But the characters don't generate any interest. They feel like weaker OS2 companions, just an archetype attached to a quest you'll probably stumble upon completing as you do the main story. The encounters also bother me a bit, too. I like the interactivity with environs and how they handle stealth rules, but when your max level is 4 and they send a swarm of dudes you keep missing who are also level 4 (as a non-optional quest encounter), then all the shine wears off real quick. Only way I made it through what I'd call the final boss of EA was because I hung out in the rafters shooting people where half the enemies don't even know how to deal with it and the rest can be shoved off. I'm a fan of cheese as food, but not as gameplay. The hag encounter required its own cheese, too. Her minions were so hard, her environment was so painfully ridiculous with poison (or fire), that I got lucky and was able to repeatedly backstab her without being attacked back. As a minor quibble, I do hope they get rid of all the junk items as loot. No reason for forks, cups, and plates to be more than an item you can toss at baddies if they're only 1 weight, 1 gold.1 point

Alright, here's my little report after a very slow playthrough 6h in: -Using my Omen laptop, the very nicely done cutscenes managed to press my system to the max, and finally, one of the scenes caused the game to freeze (my first and only crash). Larian advised peeps like me to switch from Vulkan to DirectX11, and that did the trick for me. -I could've sworn I named my Ranger Indira Lightfoot, but in game she's consistently been called Tav. Well, thank you for the surprise, I guess. -The thing that's bugged me the most is that screen edge panning constantly resetting itself. Half of the time it doesn't work. Also, a pity that I can't adjust the font size. Otherwise, the tutorial aspects of it and the systems are pretty intuitive for any CRPG veteran. -My party is level 2 going on level 3, and you spend quite some time in both these levels. So levelling doesn't feel too fast, which I'm happy with. -The ability to interact with the environment, all the level differences, the use of ice, fire, brine, grease and acid, although over the top in effects, is really fun This is right up Larian's alley - I dare say that this makes combat more entertaining, but also slower, and not necessarily more complex. -Combat takes time, moving around in the environment takes time, since you need to rotate your camera and actively search, and also often move objects, destroy others, place surfaces on hostile surfaces, and so forth. The first couple of hours, this annoyed me as being too sluggish. But perhaps I'm getting old, but the pace's growing on me. I guess you'll get tired of it later, and it will make the replayability suffer a bit. But this game is not a cold beer on a hot summer day, but rather a really nice wine to savour indoors some stormy autumn evening in a log cabin, preferrably at a sturdy Ron Swanson piece of a dining table, bedazzled by flickering candlelight and nostalgia. -The biggest general praise I can give so far is that the game really feels like a PnP session. Most enemies and NPCs are quite fleshed out and so are the environments and the entire atmosphere. Very well done, Larian! -Being one of the few people that actually enjoyed Sword Coast Legends, I'll use that D&D CRPG as my benchmark (I suspect that most of you will regard that standard as ridiciculously low and desperate for new D&D content). Perhaps, but to me, If this game can be at least that good, then definitely thumbs up, worth at least one playthrough. Everything else, anything surpassing that kind of achievement, is simply icing on the cake. So far, the characters and the story are indeed better than in Sword Coast Legends. Still, the characters aren't that mature and adult in theme, but rather more simple, Teenage Witch style/quality of vanilla NWN2 OC - which I don't mind at all. The graphics in BG3 is far superior than SCL, it's like Pillars of Eternity 2 and NWN2 had a baby (most likely, it's rather DOS3, but like I said, I haven't played that game, so I can't compare them). The Inon Zur music in Sword Coast Legends is slightly better than the tunes I've been presented with in BG3- but this is just the opening sections. I'd say this music is really good, like PoE2, but not yet as PoE1. The number of character build possibilities seems to be limited, I'd guess it's like Sword Coast Legends (no deal breaker for me), but for those of you that crave a D&D CRPG statistics bonanza, I still think NWN and NWN 2 are the pinnacles of that kind of guilty pleasure.1 point

I got one friend who got it because he theoretically loved BG2. He is also not the sharpest tool in the shed though and thinks all well known games are amazing. He also doesn't remember anything about BG2 except for "we all loved that back then". Sometimes I wonder if he actually played any of the games he loved. Except for Phoenix Point. After a while even he quit that one.1 point

Hmm, was searching for reviews and inevitably ended up on Metacritic and couldn't help but notice early access games cannot be reviewed by users (or scored by critics). Given how the game appears to basically be a full release (going by the fact that many reviews praise how polished it is), at full price, I can't help but feel they're trying to dodge the backlash they expected to get for calling D&D: Original Sin "Baldur's Gate 3". Hell, a whole bunch of reviews don't even bother comparing the game to the Baldur's Gate games at all, they just straight up compare it to D:OS2. Which, while not unexpected, and certainly not after reading the impressions of people in this thread, just goes to show that using the name was just a "because we can capitalise on it" type of deal. Most of the people I grew up with that played the IE-games appear to be taking a "Meh, will get after reviews, or when on sale" stance because they didn't enjoy D:OS all that much. So going to assume the name dropping would only really work on those that know the IE games solely by reputation but never played them themselves. Not sure why they bothered at all, honestly.1 point

Early Access BG3 for 59.99 or Indy 4: Fate of Atlantis for 1.79 Hmmm, GOG creates real dilemmas.1 point

It's not great. There are subclasses, but after picking them at level 2 or 3 you're locked into a set path like the kits from BG2. There are feats, but they share a resource with attribute increases and for the most part aren't as good as just pumping your stats. You can try some stuff with multiclassing (which I don't know if it made it into BG3), but it's kind of a clustercuss and I mostly see it used as a dip, like 1 level of Hexblade Warlock for Paladins to get CHA to hit and damage, instead of trying to build a character that's half and half.1 point

So for me so far Pros: + Engine - I like that engine and amount of interactivity with environment is awesome. + Visuals* - I am very pleased with how environments look * Quests - its nice to have a lot of options how to handle situations Cons: - Companions - so far only one I could stomach. I really hope they will include a bit more because there is only one front liner and she is a b***h but if you are not front liner she is your only option - Visuals* - spell effects are like from 2000 and animations are jenky af. One would expect someone is able to animate run in 2020 that does not look like character have stick plugged up his bum all the time - No fast forward for running around. It really get boring when you explore some place you already been and have to look on your character run back and forth slowly - 5E DnD rules - I am sure those are pretty good in PnP sessions but I am sure they quite suck for cRPG. There is very little character customization so far, and I think It will be true for full game as well (I am no expert on E5 by any means) and its one of the main points I play cRPGs these days - pathfinding - for some reason characters run sometimes into hazard terrain even if they know its hazard. And all it would take them is make 2 steps around - Hazard terrain - Its really hard to tell where it starts and where it ends. Some outline would be really helpfull Neutral -+ Skill checks - I cant decide if I like it or hate it so - meh +- Story - its so so. I am not digging it but its not horrible -+ Dialog -1 point
