  3. Maybe it's an old one and everyone has already played it, but.. I recently started playing ATOM: RPG and I must say I've been having a blast so far. It's an isometric (but 3D), turn-based RPG set in a post-apocalyptic Russia that's quite dialogue and skill-check heavy, in a good way. It's made by a Russian indie team so expect a lot of typos and syntactic errors, but it's still a well-written game with lots of unexpected dialogue, descriptions and humour. It very much resembles the old Fallout games (1 & 2), even down to using the same (I presume) font for conversations. A good sign saying a lot about how surprisingly complex this game is, is that I've started a second, parallel play-through before I've even finished my first game. The lure of finding out how a different build would behave in the game was simply too strong. I usually never do this, but so many options were locked out and so many situations could be solved in different ways that I couldn't help myself. Complex, indeed. I'm not very far in since the game has a semi-open overworld (just like the Fallouts) and I'm having too much fun trying to survive and explore without getting killed by random mutants or bandits. I've only managed to complete the first main mission and I've already spent 30+ hours in the game. The combat is not Jagged Alliance 2 caliber but at least I'm having more fun than watching 20 rats slowly taking their turns crawling across bad graphics (looking at you, Fallout). I also play this game with companions, something I also almost never do. Not sure why.. I even got myself my own slave girl! (don't ask) I'm at a point where I "unlocked" a home base that I just started upgrading (repairing water pumps and generators and such with my crappy repair skill). That's also surprisingly addictive, I can barely wait to see what I can do with it. Looking forward to going home from work today to continue playing.

  7. More Dead Rising 3. The story and the characters aren't as good as 1 or 2 but the game itself is very fun to play. The city itself is full of weird places to explore.

  8. After talking with my twitch chat, we came up with a few suggestions that I think would make the game better. A craft all button or slider Stair hand rails A lift mechanism made of acorn tops that spins by a crank or on its own like the spinning wheels A phase 4 of the Sharpshooter mutation that will auto collect all the arrows you fired just by walking over them, no damage increase A phase 4 of the Grass Master and Rock Cracker mutations that will auto collect anything you have cut or busted open, like dry grass, clay or quartzite, etc. A new mutation, Forager, that will auto collect items from the map like sprigs, plant fibers (the ones growing out of the ground), pebblets, etc.

  9. We have a lot of resources that could be made into new weapons and armor for the game. Here's just some ideas. Standalone gear: Berry Leather Vest: This is a standalone T2 piece of gear that increases your resistance to damage. as well as give a defense boost. It has the same defensive capability as the grub vest and would be awesome as we currently have no standalone chest pieces, only for head and feet. Spider Pants: A standalone T2 piece of gear. Allows the player to jump much higher. Gnat Facemask: This is a standalone piece of T1 gear that allows you to see in the dark but makes bugs track you from further away. Spider Grips: A T2 attachment for the chest slot that allows you to climb up steeper surfaces but offers little protection. Armor sets: Petal Armor: A T1 offensive armor set made from flower petals as the main ingredient. Each piece grants a defense slightly worse than grub armor. Wearing each piece makes attacks consume less stamina. Wearing the set gives the Graceful Caress buff, allowing you to dodge an unblocked attack 30% of the time. Dewbug Armor: A T2 defensive armor set made from aphid honeydew, sap and stinkbug parts. Each piece grants a defense on par with acorn armor. Wearing each piece gives you 1/3 poison resistance. Wearing all 3 pieces gives you the Airtight buff, which makes you immune to stinkbug gas. Silk Armor: A T2 balance armor set made from spider silk, spider webbing and spider parts. Each piece grants a defense slightly better than acorn but worse than spider armor. Wearing each piece gives you a +10% chance to land a critical hit. Wearing all 3 pieces gives you the Webbed buff, which slows down an attacker if they land a hit on you. Weed Armor: A T2 offensive armor set made from weed stems, spider silk and larva spikes. Each piece grants a defense on par with grub armor. Wearing each piece gives you +10% attack reach, allowing your attacks to hit targets further away. Wearing all 3 pieces gives you the Battle Ready buff, which makes regular blocking worse, but grants a higher attack power and faster attack speed on heavy weapons. Thornberry Armor: A T2 defensive armor set made from berry leather, thorns and bombardier parts. Each piece grants a defense on par with grub armor. Wearing each piece gives you a 1/3 chance to damage the attacker if the attack is unblocked. Wearing all 3 pieces gives you the Pointy buff, which allows you to do 3x damage with spears and 10x recoil damage on perfect block. As there are now a lot of T2 armors, spider and ladybug armor could then be classed as T3. Weapons: Quartzite Spear: A T2 spear made from quartizite, berry leather and a weed stem. Has slightly better attack than a regular pebblet spear, but a much longer reach. ... mre coming soon

  10. Potentially. When you play PnP with dice rolling you often end up with sub-standard stat spreads. Sometimes the results are hilarious. One of the players of our old regular group once rolled an INT 5 barbarian who was barely capable to articulate himself. That was a fun game, but the DM canned the entire campaign after just two sessions. Not because of the barbarian but... eh. Turns out his planned storyline did not play well with a group of players using the attack on their home village to plunder everything and try to run away instead of fighting the attackers off. The stats of the BG1 NPCs would have been fine if they had just given everyone else rulebook based stats just as well. But no, monsters and enemies have highly optimized, sometimes perfect stats. Sure you wouldn't make a fighter with 9 CON even with a bad roll or a cleric that wouldn't be able to cast more than low level spells intentionally in PnP... guess Bioware figured out that WIS was a mostly useless stat even for clerics even before Gromnir came up with his character to complain about wisdom not doing anything. Heh. I seem to recall an interview where MCA stated that he read much - if not all - of the Star Wars EU in preparation for writing for KotOR 2. And yes, he couldn't deny it even if he tried. Kreia wasn't just based on Vergere, her philosophy and ideas regarding pratical skills and how the Jedi are limited by relying on the force too much comes directly from Mara Jade in the NJO books. As far as annoying NPCs go I seem to have really high tolerance. I don't mind Carth, Kaidan or Alistair. Or even Annoymen. The only NPC that ever really bothered me was Aerie, and to be honest that had more to do with the incredibly terrible timing of her whining-triggers in my first Baldur's Gate 2 playthrough than being straight out annoyed by her whining all the time.

  11. That end bit was kind of the aim, though I'd say not specifically of Carth; given the overt similarities of it to PST which subverted general fantasy tropes and K2 subverting the most persistent SW tropes overtly. The point isn't that he's a gritty Carth, it's more a commentary on the logical end point of the SW stereotype Carth represents. You get a similar commentary on the biggest trope in terms of The Force too, where by any out-of-universe analysis it's outright capricious. Atton is way more a take on the 'noble smuggler' trope and case study Han Solo than he is a deconstruction of the Anomen/ Carth/ Sky/ Kaiden Biostereotype- which is so cardboard it hardly needs deconstruction. Specifically, the stereotypical noble smuggler in SW kind of appears conflicted and nuanced, but never actually seems to smuggle anything 'bad' and never seems to do anything genuinely 'bad' either, including those in the EU who stay as smugglers with their own personal militia etc even after the rebels win. Can't say that about Atton, he has the facade of the noble smuggler trope but whereas if you dig below the surface of a Han Solo or Talon Karrde you find a heart of gold beneath Atton Rand lurks an outright psychopath who gloried in the pain of others. It was pretty obvious Avellone had read a lot of the SWEU because apart from the obvious PST links (Atris/ Trias; Sion/ Ignus; Nihlus/ Vhailor; Kreia/ Ravel) you also had a bunch of subversion of its tropes and Kreia's force philosophy was borrowed more or less wholesale from Vergere's.

  12. Yes! This is a great synergy. Everything that reduces the damage of the FF curse will also reduce the self-damage of SI. Also, side note - you can use mods with Mac OS, you just need to show hidden folders to install. A little googling should find how to do that (I don't have a link handy).

  13. The first season was made for YouTube Red, and the second season was made by Netflix. That's quite a step-up. Also the main cast has increased in size, which means there was more money. As I said before, season 2 felt just way too predictable to me. Found myself waiting for the next obvious chapter in the story, which again and again sadly turned out to be exactly what I thought it would. My wild guess for season 3 is that Cobra Kai dude will somehow get together with Miagi-Do and they will be the good force vs. the evil Cobra Kai. Kinda sucks. I liked the show when it was primarily about Cobra Kai, with subverting old cliches, etc... now it slowly transforms back into the old good karate dojo vs. bad karate dojo. Meh.

  17. Oi, Seal. That's false advertisin' right there in the title. Like, I expected to see some sort of parade of the hurrest of the durrs, but 'tis just a plain, boring, can-do-it-myself list of "NPC I don't like". Pfffft. Boooring. 'sides, while Kai Leng (ptui!) totally deserves to choke on piss-soaked cornflakes, he is was, fortunately, not a companion.

  18. I think they're working towards the stable build given that there's a tweet saying the content update will be on the 30th. It's unclear to me on what happens then on this test build but hopefully the crashing is just because this is a test build. I encountered it as well a few days so I switched back to stable build and tried the test build again earlier and encountered the same like you. I decided to switch back to the stable build since the update is coming anyway.

  19. Agree with your point on bell peppers. On a sidenote for those interested (none?), pyrazines in wine isn't inherently a bad thing, and it doesn't have to mean a wine has turned bad. Herbal aromas from moderate pyrazine levels in wine can be very appealing if done right. All the Bordeaux grapes have pyrazines for example. A Sauvignon Blanc can have an appealing "grassy" aroma, a classic aged red Bordeaux can have a delicious warm red bell pepper scent. The green bell pepper aroma is a trademark of Cabernet franc and not a wine fault. Extreme levels of pyrazine = bad. Moderate levels = can be good and adds complexity.

  24. How would a custom player even work? each of the 4 teens you play as have their own personalities, and with the introduction of perks in 0.2, the possibility of them getting unique perks in a future update isn't out of the question. Besides, character customization is only really important for MMOs where random strangers encounter one another; not co-op games. Left 4 Dead works just fine without character customization, despite all 4 characters having the same stats. They said they are working on implementing public/private servers. #notaming. I can see you manipulating a ladybug into carrying you around by dangling an aphid on a stick in front of it, but ladybugs don't have that big of an appetite, so that wouldn't work very well. And no way you're going to do that for a spider; it will turn on you the second you get off of them. Arthropods are heartless (literally; blood just sloshes around inside of them) creatures that know not love and kindness; only fear and hunger. Spiders will even eat one another. They are monsters.

  25. Kaidan Alenko is a Bioware trope. Kaidan, Alistair, Atton*... all variations of the Carth Onasi pretty boy people wanted to have digital, pretend relationships with and that turned Bioware rpgs from heavily formulaic rpg romps into heavily formulaic dating sims with rpg features. * fully recognising that KotoR2 was Obsidian, not Bioware, but forced to follow the Bioware roadmap

  29. Hi guys Bug report for you, This one has a save file example and screenshots. Description: After completing the Jungle Temple BURG.L quest and pulling the lever to divert power, leaving the laboratory and saving results in an Unknown biome being displayed. The music remains that of the hedge laboratory theme (the dark, spooky theme for here and Oak laboratory). Oddly enough, returning to the laboratory results in 'Secret Lab' reappearing as the biome name for your save, but trying to leave the hedge again results in the same issue. Steps to Reproduce the Issue: - Load up included save file - Exit the lab a little ways. Walk around on the branches a bit or fall to the ground. - Make a save game. When far enough from the hedge, Unknown will appear. (ID-79FEBD564CF929BE2558CAAC3D2F98F1)(AUTOSAVE-2).zip DxDiag.txt

  30. Additional Info 2: Dying, sleeping, then returning the burgl chip seems to fix this problem.
    1 point
  31. Additional information: Going back to the lab causes the Hedge biome and music to play. However on exiting the lab, once again the biome is registered as Unknown when trying to save. Steps to reproduce: - Completely exit the laboratory and drop to the floor. - Climb up the hedge the original way and zipline into the laboratory. - The Hedge music now plays, not the Secret Lab music. Attempting to save here will give 'Hedge' as the biome. - Walk outside the hedge lab onto some branches and stay relatively close. The Secret Lab music now plays, and attempting to save here will give 'Secret Lab' biome. - Go back into the hedge lab. The Hedge music now plays again. - Walk down the regular exit route to the lab, come out to where the fungus leads you down to the ground level - The Secret Lab music now plays. Attempting to save here will give the 'Unknown' biome. I think what is happening here is that somewhere in the lab, the game is messing up on the boundary between what is considered Hedge and what is considered Secret Lab, eventually reversing the two biome allocations. But then after exiting and dropping, it doesn't register any biome since all biome allocations are now out of whack.

  34. If you have lots of illegal immigrants in country, making their status legal helps to control their economical impact better. As it is easier to regulate how much companies need to pay them for their work. It easier to spot abuse and low wages. It make easier to see where there is need for additional services (schools, shops, etc. every day services). Meaning that immigrants don't only take jobs, but create them by needing services and stuff. Uncontrollable immigration is problem, because it puts stress on existing systems faster than those systems can answer to increasing demand. Even though there are limit how much immigration country can handle it is always better to make immigrants somehow legal if you aren't able to sent them back to their home country, because if you let them became gray invisible mass which size isn't know, they will cause invisible stress to existing systems which is much more difficult to handle, as many issues will keep themselves in shadows until it is too late. One of the best ways to prevent illegal immigration is to kill demand for such immigrants.

  39. I'll second Star Traders, but this really comes down to what type of gameplay you are looking for. Star Traders has a lot of RPG stats and abilities, and you basically have an entire crew to level up and adventure with. A lighter, more adventurish and arcadey version of that would be Star Control: Origins. Star Control probably has the most whimsical story and characters. https://store.steampowered.com/app/271260/Star_Control_Origins/ In terms of serious space sims where you fly a ship somewhat realistically, Elite Dangerous and X4 are both good. I preferred X4 because you could get out and walk around everything, but both were pretty overwhelming. You could definitely get lost in them, but that is good and bad. Limitless possibilities. https://store.steampowered.com/app/392160/X4_Foundations/ No Man's Sky has come a tremendous way since it released and is beautiful and easy to play. The story is pretty trippy. https://store.steampowered.com/app/275850/No_Mans_Sky/ Empyrion is a major gem in the rough. Think Minecraft Universe with a decent story. You can build a ton of cool vehicles, but it is pretty janky at times. https://store.steampowered.com/app/383120/Empyrion__Galactic_Survival/ Then of course there are strategy games like Stellaris and Galactic Civilizations III. Honestly who needs Star Citizen? Realistic Medieval Games - Kingdom Come is the big one, but this just came out: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1129580/Medieval_Dynasty/ There is also just a ton of low fantasy medieval stuff. I've been watching Stoneshard in particular: https://store.steampowered.com/app/625960/Stoneshard/ Oh, Battle Brothers is the bomb: https://store.steampowered.com/app/365360/Battle_Brothers/ What's crazy is how these games all range in price a ton, and most have come a long way since they were released, or they are still being developed and will only get better. I don't know, sure seems like a great time to be a gamer. I have fond memories of playing games on my Atari ST and my 486DX (still remember getting a SoundBlaster card and playing Monkey Island for the first time!) But it doesn't really compare to the vast library we can bring up today.

  40. Crying Suns - It has a similar fuel mechanic to FTL, which made me bounce off of it, but AFAIK it's a good game. Star Traders: Frontiers - It's like a singleplayer MMO, if I had to sum it up short, and I'm sure someone on the internet would torch me for it. I burned out on it after a week or two, but it was an interesting concept. Elite: Dangerous still exists as well. Only medieval sim I know of is Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

They are one of my absolute favorite gaming companies, They created the Witcher series and GOG.....now GOG is amazing, I can finally play games that due to Apartheid in SA in the 1980's it was difficult to find locally, games like the Ultima series, Wizardry, Might and Magic, Bards Tale etc. And the Witcher 3 is probably my favorite RPG of all time next to BG2 ToB Yes as you guessed I dont just drink the " CDPR Kool-aid " ....no sir, not me. 46. As the title says, the Threat Engage sound need to be seperated from the music in the audio settings. I like to mute the music when playing and really listen to the sounds of the game. However, if I do this, I will not be alerted of an imminent threat. I would like to suggest two seperate sliders in the audio-settings. One for music and one for alerts.

  47. I’ve been playing grounded for 2 days straight now and I’ve had a small issue regarding the fact that I can only carry 5 objects on my shoulder. The carry mechanic is perfectly designed and I think that 5 is a good amount. However, when your playing solo you can’t really get a good “chain” in the gathering of grass, stems and logs. An addition of a cart that would allow you to place up to around 15-20 of these items would be perfect as that I will no longer have to rely on tossing my grass at 100mph to get it to where it needs to go. And a constant back and forth cycle won’t be required as often.
