  4. Elanna: Party Update So this is where I felt the party was really complete. I started this run with the intention of playing a party similar to what I would have called the 'standard' from when I was first introduced to DND3.5 Edition: Fighter, Mage, Cleric, Rouge. Partly due to mechanics and partly due to style I intended to modify this trope a little, I really wanted to include a Cipher instead of Rogue given the setting, and the plan was to cycle through Chanter and Paladin for the Fighter slot as I progressed. Compared to BG, I think solos, and especially smaller parties gain much less advantage as the experience gain isn't as noticeable compared to a full party, but I liked the idea of slightly more powerful characters, and less micro than having to look after all six (or seven with a ranger) party members. A mistake? Maybe. But a fun one.

  5. Elanna Part IV In the morning, their search for Woedica led them to the ruins of a temple in the center of the city where a long-lost spirit provided the next clue on an increasingly difficult trail to follow. Following this trail took them to the catacombs, where the newly-departed soul of a Woedican acolyte led them through the winding tunnels with very little incident on their way to the hidden Temple of Woedica far below ground. Once inside the temple the party met a new initiate rehearsing their lines for the upcoming ceremony. Having seem how well-armed the mercenaries guarding the temple were Elanna decided that discretion was the better part of valour, and took the initiate’s hood, along with her well-rehearsed catechisms. Elanna’s fiery temper proved useful once again in securing both the hood, and the silence of their unwilling accomplice. Elanna’s disguise was a resounding success and infiltrating the ceremony was as smooth as could be hoped for. From her meeting with the mysterious Woedican cypher Elanna managed to find three promising leads, but the foremost of them looked to take the trio out of the city to the nearby township of Dyrford. On their way out of the city the band chased up a lead on an old family heirloom that they had been asked to retrieve from the Knights Crucible, however their inquiries stopped at a dead-end requiring a visit to Hadret House, which could be ill afforded with their journey to Dyrford such a priority. In Dyrford the group quickly discovered the temple of Berath, and between the kinship of clergy, and Elanna’s growing reputation for complete honesty, they were able to convince the Priest there to provide them with the information they needed. The information was less than ideal, however; the group they were following had headed to Engwithan ruins, which would be dangerous enough on their own, but completely untenable with their ferocious Glanfalthan guardians. The pursuit would have to wait. Fortunately, the journey was not for naught. While in Dyrford Elanna and company happened upon a very particular woman who, as it happened, was a cypher of some skill and who held a great interest for the new watcher. Her assistance was freely offered and greatly appreciated and so the three became four.

  10. Red Dead Redemption 2. I mean, it even had realistic horse testicles! The drug-addled, Exploited by the Patriarchy™ and possible victim of abuse or human trafficking portrayal is a dime a dozen, no doubt. Try to go a bit deeper and the twitter slacktivist hordes are going to fall on you like a ton of bricks. I think it's also useful to distinguish between games in general and AAA titles with hundreds of millions invested in marketing efforts that can be undone by (social) media hysteria. You aren't going to find many groundbreaking counter-cultural achievements in the latter category, for obvious reasons.

I had to restart a ng after 30 hours for different reasons, because i didn't payed attention we could create an Import (with re-create all our POE Choices), don't wait an answer, tbh i played POE and i never got any answer to my questions/problems from the devs on the forum. Start a new game (you should have some Berath blessing) and let's hope they will fix this mess soon...

  14. Thanks for the advice, Boeroer. I think I will go with the single class Nalpazca monk in this run. I will use fists as I prefer this style for monks. However, I will create a Witch companion who will wield a morning star. I only wish there were more morning starts in the game! Per your advice, this is one of my favorite multiclasses. And since many monk abilities target fortitude, this will be a great companion for my monk MC.

  15. right, i'm saying that from experience (having also set up a "self:has inspiration:perception" FALSE disciplined barrage script) that sometimes i've seen Eder use disciplined barrage like umpteen times in a row (burning up a significant chunk of class resource in the process). I don't know what causes it, but sometimes the AI gets evaluated repeatedly or does multiple things because it queues up a bunch of abilities because at the time the abilities are being queued up, the condition evaluates to true, and the condition doesn't get re-checked as the queued up abilities get used. I ended up having to put a short cooldown on these sorts of scripts to prevent this kind of multiple-use from happening. edit - another reason for cooldowns - things like suppress affliction can really mess up AI scripts that are based on looking for an inspiration or affliction. suppress affliction will make those evaluate as "not being present" but if the ability is used the inspiration or affliction won't get applied (because it's the same as a suppressed ability). without a cooldown, your AI script will happily keep using their ability on someone who's had the relevant affliction/inspiration suppressed. edit 2 - a much more mundane reason why you might see multiple marked enemies is because the enemy you marked gets withdrawn or stasis-ed or mule kicked or somehow else rendered untargetable, even extremely temporarily (mule kick and monk's knock up stuff only have untargetability for 1 second). which would get your AI script to mark someone else.

  17. Still mostly FF XIV (the M MO, for those unaware ;)), gotta hand it to them, while the story is a heap of clichés it's pretty well told. They actually do take the time for you to "bond" with characters before killing them off, quite unlike the "trend" of telling you you should care about $CHARACTER right off the bat ("Hey, you, PC, go find your dad/son you don't really know! But you should care about them, because family! Hey, where are you going?") Game swings heavily between derp and dark too, going from a raped girl right back to brewing booze for goblins back to burying people (as in, tossing corpses on a cart, not the usual MMO fare of turning people into corpses). It's almost surreal at times.

  21. To be honest: not much balances out the loss of Resonant Touch + Whispers of the Wind (and also Razor's Edge in this case). But as you said that comes pretty late and it's reasonable to trade some late game "oomph" for a more interesting early to mid game (build-wise). What you said still works very well. Swift Flurry/Heartbeat drumming doesn't work well on high defense foes, but like Mob Stance it's great against... well... mobs. I once again recommend Morning Star + modal since you can turn Force of Anguish and Clear Out (both target Fortitude) into beastly crit generators against certain enemies (everything that hasn't stellar fortitude) - and against the others it helps your teammate land their fort-targeting spells. Use Enervating Blows + Stunning Surge or Charge or Raised Torment for even more fortitude debuffing --> leading to Swift Flurry/Heartbeat Drumming cascades. But other weapon types also work of course. I'd only make sure they are not crush-only - because you'll always have your fists as crushing backup. Something to consider: Whispers of the Endless Path's Offensive Parry triggers both Heartbeat Drumming/Swift Flurry and Cleaving Stance (if it kills of course). In this special case I would also consider Shattered Pillar instead of Nalpasca (which is a nice subclass) because Offensive Parry also generates wounds for Shattered Pillars... Rooting Pain is good for a melee Monk who spends/gains wounds often, Flagellant's Path is ok-ish with normal melee weapons but great with mortars and rods + blast or Spirit Lance (which you all won't use I reckon).
    1 point
  22. You can use wand/rod/scepter and one of the best already comes rel. early in Defiance Bay (Engwithan Scepter). Gyrd Háewanes Sténes comes even earlier and without any fight. I would use those as backup though because as I said, Blast + Penetrating Blast are most powerful with Kalakoth's Minor Blights. It it correct that using Minor Blights will spare you a lot of other damaging spells. You invest 1 spell use for the whole fight (maybe 2 or 3 because Chillfog and Combusting Wounds are just too good) but usually one shot of Blights + Blast does the same damage as a damaging spell cast at lower levels. Later on the combination woth Pull of Eora is also very powerful. ALso note that Klakoth's Minor Blights have a pretty insane inherent accuracy bonus which is extremely benefical in the early(ish) game. Weapon Focus is one of the most effective talents you can take early in the game if you plan to use weapons more than occasionally. Having to overcome a different defense than the one that gets lowered is the biggest advantage. Aspirant's Mark is also good because it is accessible very early on and it's 1/enounter which means that Wizards can contribute to a fight without spending spell uses (besides Arcane Assault which is decent). Of curse you could rest after each fight and then it doesn't matter, but I find that to be a rather boring approach. That's for you do decide. It will give you +20% implement damage which is great for Kalakoth's Minor Blights - since all the AoE hits of it will profit (additional cascade of Blast hits will NOT) while it will give you some self damage with every shot (watch out if combining with Alacrity spell which also does harm you). It would stack with Apprentice's Sneak Attack (+15%). You can turn it on and off at will (modal). You confused Penetrating Shot and Penetrating Blast. Penetrating Shot will give you 5 DR bypass on ranged weapon attacks (and some spells like missiles for example) and will slow your ranged weapon recovery down by 20% (not spell recovery) - and doesn't work with Blasts. Penetrating Blast only works for the Blasts (DR bypass) and has no downsides. Reason why I recommend it is because the Cascade of Minor Blights + Blast generates so many Blast hits that the accumulated damage by DR bypass is often enormous. Let's assume you manage to hit 5 enemies in front of your tank who's guarding a doorway with Minor Blights: 5 hit rolls with Minor Blights, each dealing their normal elemental damage, then each of those hit rolls generates a Blast which hits all 5 enemies --> 25 Blast hit rolls. Lets assume the enemies' crush DR is 5 and Blast does 10 crush damage. Without Penetrating Blast you would deal 125 crush damage and with Penetrating Shot you would have dealt 250. That's quite substancial. Add to this that you can do such a shot every few seconds... Penetrating Shot can be good - but it depends on the situation. With Minor Blights and if you use Alacrity (50% speedup) it's usually a win if you can manage to hit several enemies at once with the Blight's AoE. When hitting 5 enemies you'll do 25 additional damage. You would have to do some math in order to determine once the slower attack speed would result in less damage then... With implements that apply an effect on hit you usually want to fire as fast as possible though - so Penetrating Shot wouldn't be the best pick then. To estimate your attack speed with several weapons, modals, items and setups in general you can use this: https://naijaro.github.io/poe-speed-calculator/ For simulating the Alacrity spell you can use the option "DAoM potion" (same thing basically). Note that only DEX affects the actual attack animation speed. All other speed modifiers only affect the recovery phase. The more speed effects you can stack the more impact (increasing returns), but not all do stack. Usually for melee wizard (which can be great) Citzal's Spirit Lance is the holy grail. So no sword & board (althoug that would work as well, for example with this build here: Bilestomper). Spirit Lance is one of the best weapons in the game (reach, highest base damage + AoE damage) - but Apprentice's Sneak Attack only works with the initial hit, not the splash damage (still a good pick imo, also Savage Attack once you have some ACC buffs in the party).

  23. The market for all genres is not the same. D:OS2 is a turn-based squad RPG. ~3M sales is the ceiling for such a games. TOW is a FPS-RPG, the ceiling for it is ~15m. It doesn't matter how well marketed or how good a game is, there's only so much market for it. Cyberpunk 2077 is going to put this in perspective. Who knows how many sales not being on Steam has cost TOW though. Epic paid ~$10m for Control's exclusivity. Doesn't seem worth it, but whatever.

  24. Only when you got bytes full of bits... very old processors were 4 bit (no kidding, try googling the TMS 1000 from the 70's) The thing about bits is, they are sort of binary and completely self sufficient individuals... or not The 8 bit legacy is still very much a thing and like the metric standard for dimensions, one of those things that are just ubiquitous in the wold of computing. Edit: I remember having to do math in Octal numbers in Computer Science back in University... that's 3 bit numbers Edit2: Just because Melkathi distracted me, shoo! Playing a lot of Tomb Raider and Master of Orion 2 these days... GOG is a heaven sent for those of us who like the older classics. If I could just get my Saitek Flight Stick and Throttle out of storage and hooked up to my PC, I would be all over X-Wing vs. TIe Fighter again... haven't really played it for ages.

All these issues, and all these complaints. And this is the thing that gets a patch. Obsidian, you better never work with the company you hired to do this console port again. Because this port is a shambles. And its hurting your reputation with those that don't know any better.

  27. Uh, no? It's simply the best film of the year, regardless of what ethnicity the director is. No one who's seen or is even mildly aware of the film would even begin to think that, though some bigots who read bad faith into every win by a non-white might. And it's not the first time a film was nominated for both Foreign Language and Best Picture - just last year we had Roma for example (which should've won, btw) - but it is the first time a film in a non-English language wins BP.

  29. No. The number of choices is irrelevant to validity of choices: New Vegas, Caesars Legions slaughters people, tortures people, enslaves people. The NCR collects taxes and has nepotism and a certain level of corruption. Obsidian wants you to accept in that game that slavery = taxes as similar evil. Or that slaughtering whole villages because you can is the same as a politician pulling strings not to have their kid send to the front lines. The third option (Mr House), joining neither side does not make Caesar's Legion more valid as a moral choice. The CIA funded and trained death squads during the Greek civil war. It is recorded as "successful anti-communist operation" or something like that. The people they trained and armed though were the Nazi collaborators. I grew up in Thessaloniki where 46 thousand people were send to Auschwitz. The people who aided in that were then given arms and funds by the US. No even remotely decent human being would accept that. Therefor the myth needs to be created that there is no black and white, only gray, and two opposite sides in a war are both valid. And because we are getting bombarded with that in popular media - be it tv series, movies, comics, literature, or gaming - for decades now, the generation creating content now is propagating this without an agenda, instead believing this to be how they show open-mindedness. Of course for US dominated entertainment, the argument could also be made that it is the unhealed scars of the Vietnam War that had divided the country, which makes US entertainment pathologically try to make both sides in an argument acceptable. Again though, as we are now dealing with generations who have no clue what the Vietnam War was, we would be dealing with content creators not knowing why it is they create how and what they create.

Here we say a happy customer will bring you 10 other customers, a angry customer will tell 100 other customers your work is not serious... this is what is happening now, if a friend ask me about Deadfire i will tell him the game could be nice but it is full of bugs, poorly coded and i fear it break my PS4 Pro, of course i will make sure he spread the word to his friends, and i am sure i am not the only one doing this... In my job i alway ensure my customers are happy with what i provide them... Leaving the game in its actual state is irresponsible...

  37. It is not the first time we buy a game completely broken (which pass Sony Certification), i remember Anthem, POE and some others... At least Obsidian should buy some consoles and pay some players to test their games with different config (PS4, PS4 pro, PS4 Pro with SSD, XBox One, etc), and of course patch their game regularly as soon a bug is discovered... I have the feeling they consider their game (Deadfire) as a finished and perfect product, a little voice in my head tell me they won't fix anything like on POE PS4.

  43. Well, there was a massacre in that village and the Devil is a murderer. If you are not near them, you may not be invested, just like most people irl aren't affected by wars and disasters in other countries. But being there and having heard Durance talk about the purges... I think it would have a serious effect. But that doesn't mean everyone would side with the Devil. Realistically, who would risk travelling with her? In a more complex game there could be quests with no apparent consequence or npcs/companions who would turn against you (imagine the Devil attacking you at night if you didn't side with her against Harmke...). But as you said, it's just a game and we will do quests like this for experience and to find out what happens. But in my case it made sense. My character was cruel and aggressive and the Devil was her best friend. The only other person in the group that shared her tendencies. In fact, the unofficial story of my character was that she committed a murder in the Living Lands and escaped to the Eastern Raech. So of course she would side with the Devil and have a great time executing Harmke and any fools who happened to be there with him. Btw, I thought they were not involved in Cold Morn, that they were just woodcutters from Stalwart. If I had played with my first character (benevolent/diplomatic) I would not kill him though. Good idea. I Should have done that with my evil character. That is true. When I played I thought they had nothing to do with Cold Morn. They just were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think Raedric is a different case. He may have had his reasons, but he did kill his wife and was terrorizing the Vale. So why not try an alternative? My good character avoided killing the guards but killed him. My evil character was a Bleak Walker, so she had to kill everyone there (I think the priest survived though). And she wanted all their equipment to sell.
