  4. I love choices. I hate filler. I'm turned off by even sidequests. "Please go kill the bandits for 14 copper and a piece of lint. They've been sitting in a cave 15 minutes ride south not bothering a single person who was worth having a name. But it says bandit over their head so they really just need to be gone." No. But I HATE grinds. "Here's a stick for a weapon and some roughly spun wool that we think passes for armor. To actually avenge the death of your wife, you'll need the DEMON HEART ENCRUSTED DIAMOND SWORD of +2000 agility and a suit of THUNDERBOLT IRON PLATEMAIL with enough defense stat for a starship hull. But to even get that you'll need the PICKAXE OF WOE that has a 20% droprate from the demon lord AB'ZZTHFR and he only spawns once a day. Then you'll need to mine 3 cubic miles of METEORIC IRON and kill roughly 50 demons for two hearts. Don't worry about mining for diamonds, just buy them. To get the gold you have to murder and rob the entire population of the nation 3 times over. Now get started." Quit->Uninstall

  5. Well, why not. Here is my list: 1) PoE: Deadfire - in spite of my gripes: Deadfire represents what RPGs I like, and it does so many things, so very well. My main issues are when the game doesn't so as well, what the original did, but judging on its own, it's a pretty stellar RPG. 2) Shadowrun: Dragonfall - really good time with a limited scale. Replatibility isn't great as it's a very directed experience, but I played it twice and had great time both times. 3) Divinity Original Sin - very subjective. I played a big chunk of it with my friend and had a grant time. Still, finished it single player and it was brief enough to still be enjoyable. 4) PoE1 - mid game just wasn't interesting enough, but destiny was well worth the journey. 5) Tyranny - I liked the setting, characters and opening chapter, but there just was too much combat, and combat was too shallow to not drag it down. 6) Wasteland 2 - I would need to replay it, as it's been a while. And it was the first one I played in a long time, so my memories might be a bit too positive. BREAKING POINT Me do not like: 7) Pathfinder Kingmaker - game in early stages (finishing opening chapter I think) so it might change. So far it's alright - the system gives me some Nwn2 nostalgia. But it has so many problems. Combat can be tedious, balance seems out of wack, pacing is real bad, enemy composition dull. Writing is not done great - I don't have an issue with the light tone, but how unnatural, unlikable and awkward it feels. Divinity Original Sin2 - a big *I need to try it with a friend (preferably THE friend from D:OS1). Single player experience was really bad for me. Really tedious, too much time spend managing trash equipment, quests were so undefined and freeform it felt more like cleaning a map, then doing anything specific. 9) Shadowrun: Hong Kong - quite disappointed in this one. On paper it is a bigger and better Dragonfall - but nothing really worked for me here - didnt care for companions, areas felt large and empty, and Hong Kong made for a surprisingly dull setting. 10) Torment: Tides of Numenera - meh 11) Shadowrun Returns - really meh

  7. Welcome, Nail. and Grats on doing Ultimate in Pillars 1. Regarding what you said about the Eothas challenge: I'd say that Hylea's challenge (Vela) is the most defining challenge, and probably most would agree with me on that. Also, Abydon's (weapons and armor breaking FAST, literally disappearing or becoming fully useless WITHIN a fight, rendering weapons and armor almost completely useless*, along with any builds that rely on them). And then the challenge that turns per-encounter resources into per-rest (especially combined with Eothas). Together, those 3 challenges are what eliminate nearly all class combos from being useful. The other challenges, unless I am forgetting one, are mostly unimportant, at least as far as whether a build can work. The Wael challenge is a big deal in a different way, but that one is about player knowledge rather than about what build you use. *Weapons with abilities that are used for the ability, like Scordeos, Essence Interrupter, Effigy's Husk, or any Crossbow used to interrupt a key enemy abilities, are not useless. Or armor to protect you a little bit from a few hits in a combat isn't useless. You just can't rely on weapons to do damage, or shields and armor to let you tank a long fight. You need summoned priest weapons, unarmed strikes, spells, or summoned creatures to do damage, as far as I am aware. Victor's (Raven Darkholme here) videos on his Twitch and Youtube have been a sort of rallying point for most of us here, as far as I can tell. He's done some great testing and theorycrafting, including discussion with several others on this thread in his streaming chat, starting about 2 months ago. Recently, he's been finding new and creative ways to die unnecessarily, because he just loves re-doing Port Maje and Neketaka... (j/k Victor - you've been great and much appreciated)

  11. Well it is harder to find play time for sure, but I am trying to find enough time once in a while to finish some games at my backlog. Sometimes more successfully, sometimes less. I still love RPGs, and I try to find enough time over time to finish them even if it takes few years Thankfully I still have good enough memory, to go back to the story after few months of break

  14. Hmm I probably should not use it then! I have bought way too many games on GOG when they have been reduced to a quid or whatever and I haven't even installed yet. I HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED MORROWIND YET! Hell, I have The Witcher 3 because it was reduced to about 5 pounds and I haven't even played that yet. Don't you think as you get older you really can not justify spending so much time playing on games as when you were young? I would spend 8 hours a day playing WoW for years. Now I can barely get an hour in on a weekend.

  16. I'm not usually into fruit flavored beers, I generally like my beer to taste like, well, beer, but I decided to give this a try. It's pretty decent, really easy drinking. If you poured me this into a glass and I never saw the bottle I might not know it was beer at all (until the alcohol headrush). It tastes like less sweet, lightly carbonated raspberry juice with a tiny hint of maltiness. I can't see this being a regular drink of mine, but it is pretty refreshing on a summer day, so I might sneak it into the rotation once in a while.

  20. I have this game on IOS, Android and lately just got it on my pc via steam. The steam version I have the ALT character, the rise of the goblins and the epic and legendary cards 1 DLCs. they register when I enter the game but when I connect with my asmodee account the DLCs dissapear? Is there something I need to do or should I just ignore the Asmodee account?
    1 point
  21. The way the game does multi-platform stuff, the Asmodee account seems to cause problems more often than not. It is generally better to manually link platforms by clicking on your account then "Link Devices". On whichever platform you have the saves you care about the most you click "Link Devices" then pick a target. Those codes are then entered into the target platform with the "Enter a Link Code" button. For example, link iOS to Android, then iOS to Steam. Once you do that, it should merge all the DLC content you own into one account. The Asmodee-only link does do some cross-play functions, but seems to have issues resolving new steam content. While it should work just fine, it is recommended that you copy down your account information before each merge. In each version of the game, go to "Options" --> "Settings" and make a note of the PFID number at the bottom of the screen. Should you have issues, support@obsidian.net will sort you out. Having the PFIDs handy will speed up the process a little if there is a need to investigate the original accounts and what happened during the merge.

  23. It is mostly a Gamebook 90% of the time. However, the combat (and character building) is somehow a bit complex and I can't say I totally hated it. The best word to qualify it is "unfinished". They have put a lot of effort and rules into something that is only a minor part of the game and doesn't feel good. And as I said before some of the main (unavoidable) encounters that were meant to be epic are actually very very very very bad.

  24. I hate when people use this term incorrectly. Medieval fantasy is a fantasy placed in actual medieval times. King Arthur and knights of the round table is medieval fantasy, because it takes place in actual medieval Europe. Anything placed in any never never land is not medieval fantasy even if the setting and technological advance is similar. I also don't like when people use frases like "it wasn't possible then". What do you mean then? Are you a historian for a fantasy land now?

Charname is a little better with the non-smoochables, but yeah, don't expect Obsidian's, Bioware's or even Bethesda's writing. 33. To some extend the way items are handled might be the case of preference, though I would agree that the way Deadfire implemented items fits more the overall game structure and progression. Personally, I am not much into making my character more powerful - I treat leveling system as a way to define my character, but I don’t look forward to leveling because of getting more powerful. I like my enemies to pose an engaging and fun challenge, and so I would be interested in an RPG which abandons numerical powercreep entirely, and uses levels to expand your and enemies tactical options, instead of just giving flat bonuses to rolls. I mention it, because I don’t enjoy finding weapons which are simply better then what I have. Looters fail to engage me, and if I find a weapon which simply replaces my previous one, I don’t find it rewarding. Remembering BG2 I liked having multiple weapons with different effects I would use for different situations, but I didn’t enjoy finding weapons which would make the rest obsolete. As such Deadfire is a perfect system for me, giving plenty of interesting weapons, which synergise with different builds or strategies. It also encourages to have couple weapons at hand. However, like most of the systems in those kind of RPGs - you don’t really need to engage with this system to get by. It might be the case of the difficulty being too low, but at the same time you wouldn’t want to fall into trap of requiring to have certain weapons to win, I found great satisfaction of equipping my team for megabosses, and seeing my team counter enemies with a smart application of weapons. A benefit of turn-based mode, is that such things are easier to track. Weapon effects are easily noticeable, while in RtwP majority of player will loose track of what’s happening in the noise (I know I usually do). i also love that Deadfire doesn’t punish switching weapons - proficiencies don’t contribute to your chance to hit (for the most part) so one isn’t reliant on meta-knowledge.

  34. Today I decided to make a trebuchet in Conan Exiles, because it was a mission or something. I've been building my little fortress on a small cliff overlooking a beach, and I found a good place for it. Once I had it all ready to go, I cranked it back and let it fly towards the beach. It didn't go very far, but it did manage to disturb the Shaleback King hanging out on the beach. It just ticked him off, so he came charging up the slope to show me what is up. I retreated a but with the use of my elevator and fired some arrows down on him, but that just seemed to make him grumpy. Then I managed to get my thralls in on the act, and jumped behind him to finish him off with a warhammer. It was my first boss battle!

  35. The Mind Captain A party leader that jumps into the fray being an offtank (and main tank later) and inflicting a lot of debuffs and cc, as well as dishing out decent melee damage when needed. Cipher (Beguiler) / Fighter (Tactician) Difficulty: 5.0 PotD (level scaling up) Solo: not tested, most likely not possible in high difficulties Introduction: It has been a while (and a lot of different watchers) since I wrote a full character guide, but I had so much fun with this one that I wanted to share the experience. As always, I try to balance efficiency with fun and roleplaying. There will be no min-maxing here. That being said, the character is still very efficient. This build was all about finding synergies and solutions to undermine the weaknesses of classes. I wanted to play melee multiclass cipher, but soulblade never really attracted me (too straightforward), and I like my watcher to be able to hold his own in melee combat and be at least offtank. However, tanking as a Cipher is, in most cases, not the greatest idea, as the core feature of the class, aka focus generation, gets better the more damage you deal. The beguiler pick was obvious for the non-damage tied focus generation, and mind deception spells was a playstyle I wanted anyways. Fighter would provide some durability and nice passives. The tactician subclass can be very powerful, and it is known that cipher has, from the very beginning, efficient ways to enable flanked on a lot of ennemies (eyestrike and phantom foes). There are quite a lt of tactician psyblades guides out there, but they are mostly ranged, to avoid the pesky tactical dilemma debuff. I found it was not too hard to work around it. The character got fine tuned during the playthrough. Every new level brought more options and interesting synergies. I felt definitely starved in terms of ability points (as are most multiclass characters), respec came handy in keeping every level relevant. In the end (I take PotD Forgotten Sanctum as a reference), the character flawlessely achieved what I wanted in the premise: Sufficient survivability to tank late game, plenty of CC/debuffs, and decent melee damage when required. Race: Human was picked for RP preferences. Pick the one you enjoy the most. Origin: None of the stats are min-max. Pick what you like and adjust. Stats : 10 Might 10 Con 10 Dex 16 Per 18 Intelligence 14 Resolve (I got Blessing of Berath for M12 CON12 DEX12 PER18 INT20 RES16 but it is not critical). I like having high mental stats for roleplay purposes. He is a captain after all, so it is normal that his intelligence and resolve are high. Per is incredibly valuable to land cipher spells, and intelligence is a must to sustain the afflictions and nice self buffs. You don’t need more than 10 con for survivability thanks to decent resolve, party buffs, defensive passives, and the very long duration on your constant recovery. Might is additive so left at 10(12 with BoB), dex could benefit from being higher, but a lot of cipher spells are quick cast, and the character will have a low recovery anyways. Skills: I chose my passive skills for roleplay purposes: diplomacy/bluff/metaphysics, but get the ones you want, it has no impact on the build. Intimidation and Insight are good candidates. In terms of actives, I went for athletics and alchemy. Proficiency/Fighting style: Weapon and shield. You can consider other options if you are playing on normal/veteran, in which case I would recommend two-handed Gear: The most important for the gear in this build is to offset the tactical dilemma debuff. There are two ways to do it: - Getting immunity to flanked: This is the most straightforward, but locks your weapon options to Squid's Grasp and Kapana Taga (club modal debuffs will which can help us a lot). Although they are decent weapons (especially kapana, squid having the often resisted pierce damage), there are plethora of great weapons, and you might want to vary things a bit - Getting resistance to mind and intellect affliction: This is the alternative, instead of not triggering the effect, you cancel the consequences. You can get the fearless ability so that you do not have to worry about Shaken, and any mind immunity/resistance, via food, chanter, or Modwyr. DoC breastplate is an option as well, but I do not like the +35% recovery, even with armored grace (see below). This solution is less ideal, as you would still get the flanked debuff and therefore be unable to trigger Brilliant, but it has the advantage of opening the weapon slot to whatever you fancy, and protects from other sources of these afflictions as well. Note that later in the game, it matters much less as a lot of ennemies will have cc or debuffs preventing them from flanking you. Then you just have to worry about perception afflictions that will get you flanked (looking at you, persistent distraction principi rogues). Armor: As the levels increase, so does your survivability through debuff/cc and self buff. I started with a medium armor for the early parts of the game, then switched to Miscreant Leathers, which with armored grace actually deacreases recovery time. Later on, I switched to robes for the affliction immunities (Effigy's Husk and Spider Silk robe), respecing armored grace and saving me a precious ability point. 7 armor (9 with body attunement, 10 if you burnt a Mythic Adra Stone on it) will not mitigate any damage but will most of the time prevent overpen, and you get missed/grazed a lot, so I found it very sufficient. Main drawback is that robes look ugly, an issue that can be solved by mods (I modded Effigy's Husk and Spider Silk to look like the Valian Frock Coat ) Other equipement: Fair Favor if you are using a compatible weapon, otherwise any good helmet. Mask of the Weyc is nice, pearlescent rombstone etc. For the rest I swapped things around often, prioritizing survivability, per and int, as well as dialogue stats. Ability Choices: This is where the synergies really start to kick in. Cipher: Eyestrike Lvl 1 pick, usefull through the whole game. Blind is a great debuff in itself, and it triggers flanked which is amazing for tactician. Phantom Foes Eyestrike's only drawback is the small aoe. 1 cast of Phantom Foes with our high int is likely to flank the whole battlefield, triggering Brilliant, and generating tons of focus. Secret Horrors Fast debuff, decent aoe ususally refunds itself. Borrowed Instinct Excellent offensive and defensive self buff + debuff. Have it constantly on Body Attunement Situational but i like to have it handy for heavy armored ennemies Whispers of Treason>Ringleader Take whispers first, then respec when you get ringleader. Charm/Dominate is the most powerfull CC in the game, and ennemies have their will destroyed by all the previous spells, coupled with our sky high accuracy and various cipher passive bonus to will targeting spells to almost guarantee hits/crits. Honestly, Ringleader trivializes most of the encounters, no matter the difficulty. (Except mind/intellect immune obviously) Mind Plague Very valuable for us, as it lowers ennemies will (confused) preparing for more cipher spells, lowers their damage output by a lot (Dazed). And dazed ennemies cannot flank you, which is great for tactician. Also, mind plague is a great beguiler spell as it will still jump to already affected targets, generating more hits and therefore more focus as long as there are two ennemies left. (As opposed to aoe deception spells that can only hit once per ennemy). Any Cipher Damage Spell Get one you like (I recommend amplified thrust , but any can work. Ectopsychic Echo if you do not mind the micromanagement) until you get amplified wave, then respec it. Amplified Wave Get it and spam it. It will affect a huge aoe interrupt, multiplying our chances at getting some discipline back through tactician passive, even without brilliant. Damage is not too bad either on trash mobs. Passives: Are not a priority, but whenever you have spare points get: Draining Whip, Lingering Echoes, Empty Souls, Hammering Thoughts, The Complete Self, Rapid Casting, Psychic Backlash, and any you like. Fighter: Disciplined Strikes Acute is very strong with our cipher spells. Have it constantly on. Can also be recast to get rid of a per affliction (getting you flanked). Always useful Mule Kick/Penetrating strike Pick one. Mule Kick does more damage, accuracy and CC, refunds itself on interrupt and is a primary attack which is relatively better for 1 hand users, but costs 2 ability points. Penetrating strike is good against most bosses, but looses a lot of it's value as a full attack. I played most of the game with penetrating strike but would actually recommend mule kick now. Fighter Stances We want to be in conqueror stance for that +acc +def Unbending>Unbending Shield Improves survivability a lot, lasts long thanks to our high int, can be spammed thanks to brilliant, and gets you resolute, solutionning the problem of getting your cast interrupted (that you only have on mind plage and amplified wave, all the other abilities are quick casts). I would take this over more healing. Vigorous/Refreshing defense I didn't use it because I was starved for points and never felt the need for it (I have a very defensive party), but I see it being very good, combined with already high defenses and borrowed instinct being always on. It might be an even better defensive tool than unbending, I just really liked the perma Resolute. Power strike Expensive, especially as a multiclass when you cannot upgrade it to inspiring strike, But since you can proc Brilliant very easily by the time you get it, as well as multiple interrupts with amplified wave restoring your discipline, the cost is not that steep. Getting this is the reason why I prefer mule kick over penetrating strike now, Power Strike taking the role of that armor penetrating heavy melee attack. Passive Armored grace if you are not using robes, weapon and shield style, fearless if you have no other way of mitigating tactical dilemma Shaken (otherwise unbending Shield will take care of your resolve afflictions), Uncanny luck. Strategy and gameplay : Cast Disciplined Strike and Borrowed instinct (always have both on), run into melee, then cast debuffs/dominate. You should have all your ennemies afflicted by plethora of debuffs in no time, letting your party wreak them . When focus piles up from your deception spell casts, use amplified wave liberally. Use mule kick for quick damage (and focus regen)/interrupt. Have unbending shield on when you start taking a bit of damage. When you trigger brilliant, feel free to, use your discipline more offensively (Power Strike!). Conclusion: There it is, my fantasy of a watcher running in the fray, hacking and slashing, and messing up ennemies minds is finally fulfilled.
