  1. Just started up a new play-through of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition with the Siege of Dragonspear expansion installed. Man I have not played Baldur's Gate 1 (original) since I beat it in late 1990/2000. I want to play it again since I found out Baldur's Gate 3's finally going to became a thing now (finally real). I'm running a pure fighter build ; with a 18/96 in strength, 18 in dexterity and constitution, then 17 in charisma. Intelligence and wisdom are both left at 8. After re-rolling my abilities for what seemed like a hour, this was the best I could come up with. I was trying for a 18/00 in strength (rare), but I'm still pretty happy with this. I also picked long sword, plus sword and shield for my starting skills. I still can't believe I wasted 53 cent on the Faces of Good and Evil portrait pack, since I also found a few good custom male human and dwarf portraits online right after (was about 4 portraits, I think). It's not all bad since I now have a couple more options to pick from.

  2. @Boeroer @bringingyouthefuture @thelee: Apparently the FAQ is wrong on this matter. Mob Stance's dual wield damage does get minused -35% damage just fine from my testing. Unless the log is wrong, of course.

  7. Ah yes, the infamous informal kick-about skirmish that led to the most decisive defeat in women's soccer history. Right. https://www.90min.com/posts/4833646-some-people-think-it-s-funny-that-the-usa-women-s-national-team-were-apparently-beaten-by-u15-boys

  8. Yeah, that's what I was asking about. Coming from a place where the Church also holds disproportionate power and influence, my perspective on what other countries view as normal regarding the weight of religious sentiment is skewed. I get the feeling that with the general erosion of confidence in the current social contract as a result of rising inequality, corruption and sociopolitical polarization comes the threat of a weakening of support for the -secular- framework that allows a degree of peaceful coexistence in Western societies. I don't think you can stop religious groups (or any other group that nurtures their own myths about the "common good") from resisting secular law from time to time. The anomaly is that secular magistrates aren't coming down on them like a ton of bricks. Can you guess what happens if instead of some picayune issue like, oh, sexual abuse of minors, an organization starts routinely resisting taxation on moral grounds? The cries of discrimination in this context are yet another example of idpol being rubbish.

  9. The big advantage of GOG in this is that they are based in EU. If other launchers start to put some code, which will prevent competition in the market, all they need to sue them at EU court, like Google and MS were sued few times in the past.

  10. Skeletons for CC - especially with a Beckoner. Since they have engagement they tend to stop enemies on the spot. Too bad they take too long to cast to use them right from the start of the encounter. I never use the Ogres but the Wurms I find pretty handy. If you focus their fire on one single enemy they are quite effective. What I also like is Mushroom, Drake and Dragon summons with Wild Growth (from Ancient). It has no duration but stays as long as the summon lasts (giving it the Robust inspiration). Makes the summon pretty sturdy and also bigger. Which is pretty cool. Also works with wurms but doesn't make too much sense there.

  12. You should be applauding the cops ktchong. You seem to want big and intrusive government. You seem to be in favor of the nanny state. This is what it looks like. This IS government. Armed thugs in uniform throwing their weight around. Dismissive or, worse, ignorant of the laws they are supposed to enforce they charge whomever they like with whatever they like. That is what you are asking for when you ask for more government. State cops, IRS agents, BATF agents, Homeland Security agents, more, more, more all of them get raises and promotions when people get arrested. And when no one is doing anything wrong, arrest them anyway and make something up. After all, as one Miami-Dade cop told me long ago, everyone is guilty of something. You want "social justice"? You want "economic justice"? You ask the "state" to provide these things and in the end you get men with guns and jobs that place them over you are apart from you. You can't have the dragon without the flame.

  13. Yes, this is something I personally tested back in the day, so if it gets the dual wielding penalty that was a silent fix, likely in one of the patches from 4.1 to 5.0, probably 5.0 itself given the size of the patch. Another thing to update when I get around to it, ultimate is sort of consuming my deadfire time atm. Thanks for looking into it.

  15. The trick with RES is to know that high Deflection has increasing returns. Which is another way of saying that there are decreasing disadvantages to lowering it. If you're not building around absolutely maximized Deflection, you lose less by going from 10 down to 3 than you do with other stats. So some folks dump it on anything that isn't a pure tank. You can get mitigate defensive weaknesses via tactics, buffs, crowd control, etc., to get your defenses back to adequate levels. Dumping DEX is mostly a thing folks do in Turn-based mode, because poor initiative and stride can be worked around. In Real Time, action speed is pretty important to everyone, apart from a few very niche builds. Anyhow, it depends on what you want to be doing with this character. If you know what you're doing, averageish CON and low RES can get you by, even as a front-liner. MIG and DEX both help out the stuff you do in combat in slightly different ways. (DEX is somewhat better for auto-attack DPS and is nice for getting buffs up quickly; MIG does more for limited burst abilities (incl. healing) and in instances where you can skip recovery.) Balancing between the 2 of them is perfectly appropriate if you don't have strong vision that pushes one way or another.

  16. From what I remember from reading r/battletechgame, that's a common objection -- frequently mentioned in the Steam reviews too. Apparently, outside of the new biomes, a lot of the things included in the DLCs had been done by mods before. Personally, for $20 I'd expect something like air support and infantry, a new campaign, and a handful of new mechs. It's not even worth my time to reinstall the game for what they offer currently.

  18. Yeah, the Stadia model as rumoured is like Netflix starting out as a subscription service that mailed out DVDs to people, but you still had to buy the DVDs as well. How would or could that compete with Blockbuster or just ordering what DVDs you wanted to buy off Amazon? The point of difference Netflix had which caused its explosive growth was when they moved into subscription streaming which undercut cable and the like and offered non schedule bound viewing; if you had to buy Friends or whatever at DVD prices as well as pay the sub it would not have worked, even iTunes purchase model is near dead (or is it actually dead?) now. Stadia's rumoured structure reminds me of all the pie in the sky early internet ideas from the early 2000s- and to be fair, some of those worked spectacularly well including original Google, but most didn't. I guess there is some sort of generational divide between me and the young whippersnappers with their 'i' this and their 'e' that wandering across my metaphorical lawn but I can't see how, say, someone hooked on Fortnite or Minecraft ends up thinking that having to buy the game and pay for a subscription for it as well is a good idea. I don't play Fortnite and the like due to my gammy knee and rheumatism but I believe they can be played on a phone, and that most young fellows and fellasses have phones, don't they?

  20. Surely they could just make new games in the Forgotten Realms. Instead of BG3, NWN3, Icewind Dale 3 etc, why not Waterdeep? Luskan? Thay? Whatever, just name it after a city, set it in that area and BOOM. It will still be popular with DND fans and it won't annoy people like me for making a pointless sequel.

  38. I had a medical bill come to a home I was visiting while on break between homes during a move, it wasn't even the address I forwarded to as my short term permanent address. It was the place I was visiting. That's how crazy location tracking is becoming. And the bill came only to that place, none of the other places that would have been on records so It's not like they shotgunned it to get hold of me.

  39. Finished Spellforce 3: Soul Harvest. The German translation was not up to the standard I had come to expect. And far too often English text showed up. So as a German player the experience was marred by a rushed localisation. The ending was interesting, though the "boss fight" was tedious. The game could have been a great experience, if it weren't for too many little things that hurt the enjoyment. Maybe it would have been more fun in English and when not having invested 70+ hours into Spellforce 3 and thus being used to the UI from that. By the time I had gotten used to the new way of doing things, the expansion was over. And I still believe the change wasn't for the better.
