  1. That's still young. It's a standard kind of question for junior QAs, not the spice rack per se but test something really basic, like a marble for an example. It's supposed to show if the candidate has a QA mindset, which is mostly bs.

  2. "the problem with the J. alito opinion overturning roe is it indulges the same kinda fuzzy reasoning as did roe while pretending to be a textualist interpretation. is a pandora's box scenario as the aforementioned griswold's right to privacy, as well as a whole bunch o' other substantive rights didn't have the weight o' tradition and history to support their recognition as fundamental when SCOTUS created. another J. alito opinion, american legion v. american humanist association (2019), held that giant cross were okie dokie on public land in part if it had managed to endure long enough. same tradition and history which supports giant crosses woulda' no doubt failed with an enormous star o' david or a colossal basalt statue o' baphomet, eh? the current abortion case might as well be a cf cite to the maryland cross case. tradition and history. history and tradition. is too many instances o' Justices getting history horrible wrong btw." and hard to believe, but not even technical true. is nothing in the Constitution 'bout "voting rights." voting is mentioned, and so the Court observes rights for voting is necessarily implied. worse, the Constitution does specific observe the individual state legislatures is responsible for elections, which is why jim crow laws which created literacy tests and discriminatory limits on voting were deemed Constitutional by the Court until Congress passed legislation to protect voting rights. however, there is nothing in the Constitution which forces or compels Congress to pass laws to protect implied rights. converse, there is a specific right to free exercise o' religion, which would be meaningless if it didn't cover jesus, odin and Gozer The Destructor. likewise, the process for admitting states is described even if the names is not pre established. etc. that said, there is a whole lotta implied rights in the Constitution most o' us take for granted. well of course interracial marriage is a right... isn't it? we mentioned in a linked post how loving is at risk from this Court. right to privacy. miranda rights. right against self incrimination. possible most immediate relevant is the right to die. according to the Court, a person suffering may forgo medical treatment or even take their own life, albeit unassisted. such a right to die as it were is based on much o' the same reasoning as roe. if roe fails, then why would a right to die persist, a right which also has considerable history and tradition which would weigh in favour o' state efforts to criminalize? also ... highlight the following: is no reason for most obsidian posters to recognize, but the real danger o' the recent 2nd amendment case, while unrelated to substantive due process, is that thomas relied on the same so not textualist busted arse "history" approach used by alito to overturn roe. women and minorities (religious, racial, etc.) were marginalized during much o' the history o' this nation and the substantive due process analysis applied by alito and thomas considers history contemporaneous and previous to 1789 (original constitution and bill o' rights) and 1868 (fourteenth amendment.) how many women want to turn back the legal clock to 1868 or 1789? those were the salad days for asian and/or jewish americans? the new conservative majority has abandoned textualism and instead embraced a skewed and self-serving history approach. the Justices has shown time and again their historical scholarship is selective and suspect but even when the do get it right, the history and traditions contemporaneous and previous to relevant Constitutional sections and clauses is gonna almost always burden women and minorities to a unconscionable degree. the new conservative Court is not only reactionary but it has become unabashed activist. is a whole lotta rights americans believe to be sacrosanct, rights which Alito and thomas has now made abundant clear they is seeing as unconstitutional, and they has managed to convince at least three other Justices to go along with their slash and burn approach to substantive rights on multiple occasions. is good reason to be concerned 'bout the future o' many US liberties and freedoms. will such fears be enough to get democrats to vote? history says no, but recent elections is changing the history a bit. there were record turnouts for primaries in places such as georgia even after the recent passage o' the state's new jim crow voting law. how long will democrats remain invested in outcomes? HA! Good Fun!

  3. Furries will get their own planet for sure. And this being a Bethesda game, there is bound to be a planet with a very buggy vampire story arc.

  4. The Waylanders. I've completed the first act. There seem to be some branching in dialogues and at least short-term consequences. Also there is a side quest called "The Brotherhood of Blacksmiths", which I find somehow oddly designed - the quest giver provides the locations of the merchants (not really merchants) you need to visit only once in an unvoiced dialogue, the above-mentioned not-merchants are not marked on the map, the dialogue icon above them is really hard to notice, all NPC in the game are named and you don't have to visit the places where they are during the main quests. Fortunately, I had taken a screenshot of that dialogue and was able to collect the quest items (by interacting with most of the NPCs at the locations indicated). I suppose, it is good that the game requires attention? I've started the second act. There seem to be more bugs, but the few locations I've visited are less linear (on the map; at that time, all optional paths were blocked). The not-recruited companion recognized me and (re)joined the party. In terms of classes, branching is achieved via advanced classes (3 per base class, class-specific upgrades for the existing abilities, 4 new ones). Granted, there are way too many <MISSING STRING TABLE ENTRY> now, but the game has become more engaging and I've been enjoying the story, even if I might be slightly biased. Some screenshots (the settings are closer to the minimal):

  5. Yep, normally it's one something that actually has working parts. A spice rack doesn't, now if it were how to design a spice rack, okay that's different. Then again, that company also hired me, so that tells you about their level

  7. I used to be fine with some level of restriction but shifted to unrestricted largely based on understanding that as it stands in the US 93% of abortions are done in the first trimester and that given the relative rarity of later term abortions, defer to trusting the mother making the decision whether it be health related to even the unfortunate reality that for some obtaining access to an abortion provider was difficult and/or life circumstances have changed (unemployment, lack of supports, etc). The death of Savita Halappanavar in Ireland was a tipping point for me, where I realized that if you are trying to have any moral restrictions on abortion, it will inevitably result in people having "more morally valid" justifications also suffering the consequences of those restrictions and IMO that isn't worth occasionally criminalizing someone for it. Inevitably trying to codify the exceptions will almost indelibly impact more people than it would intend.

  8. Hey I'm old, I've bombed a lot of interviews Had one funny one where the guy told me they hired the guy before me, another one got real awkward when the interviewer told me my area was full of <slur for gays>. I like giving interviews, myself, am fairly easy so I just ask stuff they'll need for the job and try to be helpful - rare as everyone with me is trying to flex on the poor candidates. My dream one day is to ask one guy the questions from Blade Runner in an interview.

  9. I watched the 15 minute gameplay video on Starfield and Im confident this is going to be another entertaining and worthy game from the prestigious Bethesda studio. Some take-aways the highly talented and helpful modding community will take the game from fun to superlative as usual the narrative is interesting where you have to explore numerous planets to find artifacts the combat reminds me of ME which I thoroughly enjoyed. The implementation of jetpacks is a nice touch I like the way you can customize your ship the design of having a 1000 planets is great for those like me who enjoy exploring and being rewarded. It was mentioned by Todd that some of the planets will only have mineral resources and some of them will have life. That's exactly what I expect and again its similar to ME where not all the planets have structures or aliens or living creatures I dont particularly care about all the character customizations like hair color but its nice for those who do enjoy those types of mechanics Im not going to give this game a "day 1 purchase for sure " as I will wait for reviews and player feedback but I predict this game will be a huge success And in closing, all the planets really open up the creative side of the modding community so I cant wait to see what mods we get @kanisatha and other people excited about Starfield, its going to be a good game

  11. I had one job interview in my life. I ended up having to do a Thomas PPA and didn't get the job I applied for. Initially, at least, turned out the other candidate was a bit of a dweeb. Still enjoy teasing them with the 2+ years they lost over that decision, but to this day I don't know what the result of this PPA thing was. edit: This one should give @Sarex a heart attack, I recently integrated a customer where I didn't write a single line of code for that integration until one day before the project release date. I faked my way through the entire acceptance test suite with a glorified unit test script. That was fun. Not recommended unless you enjoy a little bit of pressure and some insanity. Heh.

  12. I also like to do interviews and I'm pretty easy on the candidates. I just want to see if they can do the job well enough and maybe see if there's any obvious personality clashes but some of the people that I've interviewed with are on some weird power trip that I just don't understand.

  13. As GD said, less than 1% of abortions are done in the 3rd trimester, and there are usually extenuating circumstances in those cases. These are women that have probably picked out a name, had a baby shower, maybe even setup a nursery. They have to make a tremendously difficult decision and it should only be between them and their medical professional. No politician or pastor should have say in it.

  14. I would suggest playing BG1 first anyway, exactly because it is so much shorter. But you have to keep in mind how old that game is now, and on account of having led the way in the cRPG genre it didn't get to benefit from the lessons of many other games. DA:I is also a fun game to play. Make sure you don't allow yourself to get bogged down in the Hinterlands map. And I personally liked some of the war table quests and would recommend taking a case by case approach to whether you want to do those quests.

  15. Part of the reason we aren't heading for an extreme overpopulation problem is that as living standards go up, birth rates go down - as people have the number of children they want and can support, rather than be a victim of circumstance.

  16. I think one thing that gets a bit overlooked is voter apathy, and how Republicans delivering wins to some part of their electorate helps combat that. Even in the case of Republican supporters that ostensibly are against the reactionary social agenda, if they are in some way still getting their wins with whatever fiscal policies or whatever else and are unaffected by the social agenda then they'll continue voting.

  17. If you have played DA1 and DA2, then DA:I. Otherwise, BG1. While it is essentially still BG1, there are new quests and an expansion. Secondly, the controls and graphics are excellent. And finally, the length of 1 playthrough is much more reasonable, than DA:I. Neither game needs any mods, but one might want to skip the wartable missions in DA:I.

  18. I've definitely been hit with a degree of nihilism that I'm not sure this will actually be the case. That said, my in-law that works for a small town (centrist Republican) judge in Texas says they have heard people around the courthouse worry that this will be the thing that gets Beto elected.

  19. What I have understood, situation with Germany's nuclear power plants is such that it is cheaper and faster build new ones than trying to repair current ones back in use. This is because many of them have old and in efficient reactors meaning that new ones will outperform them and there is need for new ones in decade or two max anyway Many reactors have suffered from cannibalization where parts from already closed reactor has been used to maintain still running reactors. Also in many cases heat from reactor cooling has not been used for district heating or otherwise utilized. Which means that massive amount of energy those plants produced was not utilized. And means that Germany would still need lots of energy from other source in which they currently have two options natural gas and coal. In case of future there are some needs that needs to be addressed at least Adjustment power: Renewable energy sources like wind and solar don't have solid production rates, but produce some days more and some days less energy, so there is needs to be way to adjust how much electricity is put in electric grid. Ways to do that is constant over production where wind and solar plants always produce more than needed and over production is just wasted. Storing over production: in batteries or some other form of energy storage, which can used as energy source in day when there is underproduction Adjustment power plants (current solution where there are power plants which production levels can be easily controlled based on how much fuel is used) Heating and cooling: In big cities there is usually need for district heating solutions and as there is already existing district heating solutions where waste energy from power plants is used to warm houses in the cities there is need to replace them. One solution could be use massive ground-source heat pumps to turn electricity to heat efficiently and feed it in current district heating systems. An other solution could be build small modular nuclear rectors that are only meant to produce heat in district heating systems. And of course there is also transportation that brings its own issues

The lockdowns took many things away from our societies and what many of us require to be mentally healthy and happy One of the things I missed was the ability to see peoples faces and have random conversations with strangers in lines at supermarkets and in bars. I really enjoyed talking to strangers yesterday and we all agreed how happy we were that masks are not mandated anymore I am not planning on ever wearing my mask again unless its enforced because in SA private sector businesses can still enforce it but Im not seeing that

(edit) looks as if at least the first four episodes is available via youtube. is ten total episodes. HA! Good Fun!

  34. Chaos Gate Daemonhunters isn't a bad game. I'll start with the cons: The story. It is being let down by the fact it is 40K. Greyknights are simply not engaging protagonists, just like most space marines. For 40K fans the story is great. The premise is suitably epic. The adeptus mechanicus dominus in charge of your ship's maintenance is well written. It seems 40K writers like the adeptus mechanicus to lighten the grimdark. What makes less sense is how you get reinforcements and equipment sent from Titan. The Greyknights send a single, small shuttle with a single knight and a spare storm bolter? That seems silly. In that the old Chaos Gate did better: you had a roster of marines on board, and that was it. I can see how people can find the game getting repetitive. On the one hand you only fight Nurgle. Even though attempts have been made to give your opponents a large roster, it doesn't change that they all are Nurgle. On top of that, the maps start to repeat. A few of them add insult to injury by basically being a pretty corridor, with no choice but to advance down one single path. And there seem to only be two mission objectives. Last con: the soldiers just aren't memorable. Firaxcom managed to make you care about your troops and remember them, even though for the most part they were random grunts. Phoenix Point has the roster grow so fast, other than maybe your first squad, it is unlikely you'll think of any of them as anything but sniper, commando, heavy etc. Chaos Gate is the same, your marines are melee dude in terminator armour, melee dude in power armour etc, even though you may count your troops using your fingers. The pros: Destructible terrain makes everything better. Lots of bits to interact with to kill your opponents makes it betterer. If your opponent is hiding behind a statue, it is very satisfying to slam into the statue and bury them underneath the rubble. Enemy variety is actually quite good, even if the focus on Nurgle gives a feeling of repetitiveness. In reality though there may be more variety than XCOM. Boss fights seem to be thought out. I have done two big story missions. The first one had a good premise but was a bit let down by the Greyknightytness. It makes sense and allows for super fans to have some fanservice, but for the rest of us it's a "if I cared I guess I would care" moment. The second one was tough as well, but I beat it by using my marines abilities well, while realising there was a smarter way to do the mission. I like that: a boss fight I could beat two ways. Stuns/crits/Knockback etc all work quite well and give you some tactical choices. Crits are pip boy style targeting and make for some grotesque funny situations: stop an opponent from shooting their gun? Chop their arm off and disarm them. If I were the opponent I'd be dead after that, but people in the game are a bit tougher than that. Skill trees are quite large for this kind of game, so you could tune your marines the way you like. And with 8 classes you get to tune your 4-man team. Bloom actually works reasonably well as a mission timer. It increases every turn and every special ability you use. Later you may be able to reduce it or limit the passive increase to gain some breathing room. But it isn't a mission failure timer. It isn't drawing me in like Troubleshooter did or any good story based game will. I don't feel the need to fire it up to see what comes next. But when you have it launched, you may want to go for just one more mission.

  35. This is a long time coming, and I apologize for the late reply, but I stumbled upon this post. I am the dev who had the pleasure of writing the background lore for this sword. I also designed the three upgrades for the blade. I want you to know that this particular item was very special to me. I know the pain of the loss of a companion, and the truth of your submission moved me and moves me still. Thank you so much for your contribution to this game. The world of Pillars is motivated by the truth of the experiences of all Kith. Characters and story are better for what you have added to their world. I re-read this post often because it brings me a (tearful) joy to know that what came about in the game brought you joy, even if that joy has tears. Thank you for playing.

  36. Oh, I was under the the impression that you were somewhere in your 30s. My worst one was with a company where I applied for a job of QA lead. I got rejected, which is fair enough and they even replied which was nice of them. The issue began after that when another HR from the same company called me for another position. They called me in for an interview, both technical and hr at the same time, which I accepted because the pay offered was more than twice what I had. Now I came in to the interview, the hr lady sat down with me and straight of the bat told me "the tech interviewer was in a meeting and she would call to let us know if she can make it."... I rolled with it and continued the interview, because I was already there, but I kind of lost it when she started talking about my background and saying things which were not in my CV. When she realized that I had no automation experience, she started saying that they didn't call me for a specific project and that she would see if there was a good fit for me. After asking an acquaintance, who worked there, about the whole interview, he was confused about the whole thing and asked the tech person who was supposed to interview me what the whole thing was about. It turned out they just wanted to talk to me and feel me out... But the icing on the cake was the essay that the HR person sent me not half an hour after that, about how I should have asked her any questions I had, obviously mad I went around her back and how there was no position available at that salary for someone like me. The funniest thing is that I applied for a position at that company some years later, the interview went fantastically and they were visibly happy with me, but again even though I clearly stated I had no automation knowledge, they wanted me to do the assignment, which I obviously couldn't. I'm 99% certain that none of those positions ever did any automation. edit: my go to question is to ask the candidate to open the notepad app and tell me it's basic functionality and how he would test it. You would be surprised how many people fail at that.
