@Elric Galad's Balance Polishing Mod buffed many meme abilities in the game, making more classes viable for solo. Fighter's Toughened Fury now trigger on most damage rolls instead of crits, suddenly SC fighters have near infinite resources. With the help of multiple defense buffs and Unbending Trunk, a fighter can protect themselves from most negative effects and regen any amount of damage thrown at them. Class: Devoted (Fighter), Sabre proficiency Race: anything except Godlike Attributes: max MIG, PER & INT, dump RES and average DEX CON PotD solo: only with CP & BPM. Skipping content is also needed because the build doesn't work before lv16. Active abilities: Knock Down, Conquerer Stance, Refreshing Defense, Unbending Trunk, Inspired Discipline Passive abilities: Arms Bearer, Monastic Unarmed Training, Determination, Two Weapon Style, Rapid Recovery, Bear's Fortitude, Bull's Will, Hold the Line, Weapon Mastery, Tough, Uncanny Luck, Armored Grace, Spell Resistance, Improved Critical, Reaping the Whirlwind, Toughened Fury, Critical Defense, Great Soul, Prestige No Rest Buffs: Konstanten's Boon (+2 CON, +1 PER & INT), Shark Soup (+2 MIG, +1PL, Body Afflictions Immunity) & everything else Gear: Scordeo's Edge - the go-to sabre in most cases Aldris Blade of Captain Crow (heal on crit) - when additional healing is needed, and the enemies' DEF is not super high Animancer's Energy Blade (Raw damage) - when sabres and fists both can't penetrate Grave Calling - anti-vessel Any good scepter - for sigils, also very useful to attack with one sabre all the time but at dual-wielding speed. Rekvu's Fractured Casque - combined with Wrenched Knee injury (-25% Stride, can be repeatedly acquired in Poko Kohara ruins), we can take every hit without being interrupted to death, a must for this build. Charm of Bones (+2 INT) Magnera's Chain (+10 Fortitude & Will, +2 Piece & Crushing AR) Ring of Minor Protection * 2, keep Ring of Greater Regeneration Boots of Stability (+5 Fortitude), Boots of Speed is useful in a certain situation The Giftbearer's Cloth with max History Woedica's Strangling Grasp (+2 MIG, +2 Burn AR), Gauntlet of Discipline (+2 max Discipline) Girdle of Eoten Constitution (+3 CON), some belts that give AR to certain types of damge can be useful too Pet: Hemp (+1 CON, +5 Fortitude), Kathrynn (+1 INT, +5 Will). Eviee (+2 RES, resistance to RES afflictions) when boss level enemies have Terrify The general idea is to have reasonably low DEF so most damage rolls can hit us, triggering Toughened Fury, giving Discipline. Fortitude and Will should be around 200 thanks to gear, Refreshing Defense and Inspired Discipline (all tier 1 inspirations, equals +5 DEF and +20 other defenses). Unbending Trunk combined with Dawnstar's Blessing and MIG bonus (I'm not sure about this) will heal more than the original damage taken, so in 99% cases we are literally unkillable. There're exceptions though. The first one is DoT. They don't trigger Toughened Fury (unsure) and don't count towards Unbending Trunk, so they're real damage for us. In most cases Rapid Recovery and the healing from Aldris Blade of Captain Crow is enough, but there're encounters where DoT can be a real threat: Young Porokoa's in SSS. They have a DoT attack that target Fortitude. That doesn't sound like a problem but in that fight every enemy attacks really slowly, so there's not enough Discipline to sustain every buff, resulting in occasional hits. 1 stack is acceptable, 2 is a reload. luckily the big Porokoa is not super tanky, and with 16 + 8 Discipline (empowerment) I was able to beat it without the use of Potion of Enlightenment. Frightened Child. The encounter is very tricky for most martial classes, but for us it can almost be automated if only for the child's Disintegration. I don't know how she had so much focus, constantly dishing out high level spells without even attacking me. Even with all the attacks on me I still couldn't afford Knock Downs on every Disintegration, costing me several potions and an empowerment Some random polarbears in BoW. I forgot which defense they target, but they attack pretty slowly and has good accuracy. I guess it's not impossible but after a few attempts I skipped them. An SSS fight where you need to protect some research. I imagine with many potions it's doable, I just skipped it. Another one is a single slow-hitting boss, namely Neriscyrlas. There's no other enemy, its attacks are extremely slow, and without interrupt on our side it's constantly at 21 AR, forcing me to use the Animancer's Energy Blade. It also has Concelhaut's Corrosive Siphon targeting Fortitude, means we either take DoT that heals the dragon or we spend precious Discipline to defend against it. I think if I planned every buff more precisely, it can be killed with a lot of consumables and an empowerment. But in the end I just took a Potion of Enlightenment, the only use in the run. And of course there're dispels. High Will performed better than I thought, the only Arcane Dampener I took in the entire run was from Auranic, only once. The obelisk cleanses all the buff on us, but IIRC the healing part of Unbending Trunk can't be dispelled, we only lose the buff that applies healing. I only needed to make sure every time the obelisk activated, I was at full health and had some additional healing on. After punching it down the rest was a free win. I didn't notice it in previous runs, but there's a "dispel" that target DEF in the game - Luminescent Sporelings in FS has a Noxious Injection that target DEF, dealing huge corrode damge and applies -1000s to all beneficial effects, a perfect counter to the very basic of this build. Those in the Quarantined Section can either be blocked by others or lured to a choke point then killed one by one, but there're 3 in the Upper Bowels that I couldn't find a place to fight comfortably. In the end -50 damage from poison on Blackened Plate Armor (I was not sure it worked), Knock Down and a bit of luck saved the day. They're the toughest possible fights imo. The impossible fights are Hauani O Whe and Dorudugan. I couldn't outheal the DoT from the ooze and obviously don't have an answer for the splits. When trying Dorudugan I found that it's possible to sustain Unbending Trunk with Potion of Enlightenment, but it also has an attack that reduces max HP, so inevitably one-hitting me. I also coudn't deal enough damage to cover its self healing. And there's The Changling's Dance, since most defenses are active abilities. Overall it was pretty fun. Dual wielding is often risky in solo, the melee+ranged trick is even harder to pull off. With the changes in BPM finally I could take some liberty in weapon choices. Slowly chopping everything down while surrounded by a dozen enemies without even blinking is hilarious, more so if you do it with a broken knee.3 points

Interesting. But to @Theonlygarby's point, I agree there is no way physically to allow a person to explore the whole of even one small-sized planet let alone 1000. Even a planet like Mercury's surface area is vast enough to make it impossible within an open world game to allow the exploration of every square inch of Mercury's surface. So "go anywhere" on any of these planets, to me, does not literally mean we can explore every square inch of that planet's surface. It will still be about exploring specific discreet locations on that planet. This is why the very term "open world" is something I've always had a huge issue with, because it is obviously a giant exaggeration and a misnomer.3 points

This was one of the things I mentioned that I knew should've annoyed me, because most of the action scenes...just aren't very good, in my opinion. But it's one of the very few cases where I actually turned off my brain and let the campy silliness of it all make it O.K. for me (and if it wasn't meant to be campy, it sure felt like it was to me because of how bad and silly it all was). Except for the scene that KP mentioned in reply in earlier to me - that was too much. Honestly that and probably like 30 more seconds of the film in other places felt like they were to arbitrarily raise the age rating on a film that could've otherwise been quite appropriate for much younger audiences, particularly with the messages that this film has. Same for a lot of the setting stuff - everything to do with the multiverse crap is precisely that, and I don't want to ever see it in any property at any time literally ever because of how atrociously stupid that garbage is, but for this particular one, again my brain just turned off and it was somehow okay...I was thankfully more focused on what they were trying to convey than the details. It doesn't happen often for me, but it did here, and I think that deserves special note.3 points

I'm pretty sure he said you can explore anywhere on the planet. I could be wrong. I should clarify that I don't think the game will be bad. I'm sure it will do very well, and people will like it. I just don't like Bethesdas Game design. Making the game this big, will be more of the things I dislike about Bethesda games.3 points

Hello all. Been 3 years since my last posting. Using a old computer, can't really see this web page too well. I'm a old member from the 1998 era, till they switched forums in 2004. Glad to see my account still has a blood pulse, in the database..he he. What am I playing now? Well, just left off World of warcraft Classic era, after a 2019-2022 (march) effort. Trying to play is more like it. The servers have a rocky population health record. I ended up being the sole auction house seller on Stalagg server for a year and a half. Now I'm letting the servers fament abit, to see if they repop properly. So, I'm dusting off old CD's to replay. Looking at Neverwinter Nights (version 1), currently. Havent made contact with any servers yet. Are any of the old Black Isle members still around on this forum? Didn't see any. Anyways, I'm keeping an eye on you Obsidian. Hope things go well for your future projects.3 points

In a report by Czech volunteers fighting in Ukraine, they have decided after two months to talk about what they seen... Under the guise of humanitarian aid in Borodianka, a village close to Bucha, Russian army organized a gathering of people. After "enough" of them gathered, they started to throw grenades towards them... Kadyrovites did even worse atrocities to patients in Mental Health Hospitals... And then we are wondering, why some of the people have opinion, that Russia needs to be bombed back to the Stone Age...2 points

Josh speaks German and has aquired quite the collection of German history books of the period. He occasionally posts new purchases on Twitter and some of those books are really hard to get and/or quite expensive. Also sometimes very specialized stuff about nuns, monks and so on. Now we know why. But I guess he would have bought and read them anyway... Some of them seem to be written in old dialects which even I find hard to read (I studied German Philology back in the days and am rel. fluent in Low German bc. my Grandma spoke not much else - and my wife's Bavarian so I understand that dialect quite well. Doesn't help a lot with those rather old German texts). Also some of the contemporary German books (if not all of them) are written in infamous Academical German - which is truly horrendous to read. The research must have been a ton of work.2 points

So western countries aren't using famine as weapon of war in Afghanistan like you claimed With Afghanistan you somehow forgot that its infrastructure was bombed down by Soviet Union and then civil war that lead Taliban to take control it in 90s. There was quite little infrastructure left for US to bomb in 2001 or assets to steal. In 2000 Afghanistan's GDP was $3.5 billion (). 2020 it was $20 billion. In 2001 Afghanistan was suffering for famine for third year in row. WFP estimated that millions would die because of lack of food and carried out emergency programs during summer 2001 to deliver 0.5 million tons of food to Afghanistan. 2002 threat of famine ended in Afghanistan according to WFP.2 points

If that was the intention, then it's actally worse. Would have been a nice concept, but it would have needed to be communicated differently - and with even less action. In fact, more like absolutely not action scenes at all. Would have made for a nice 1:20 minute runtime too. The casting would have been great too, then, because that would have subverted expectations in a good way.1 point

I dreamt I was stuck in a Maniac Mansion'esque point and click adventure. I'm not sure if that is at all related to watching Everything Everywhere All At Once, but probably. I'd post more details about the dream, but what happened in it is curiously out of grasp. I remember dreaming and the topic, but the details are gone. Anyway, I debated with myself whether or not I should post an honest opinion or not, but I will. This will be like the many times my friends dragged me to a movie and then asked how it was, and I usually say fine or okay, with the unsaid implication that fine isn't as good as it sounds, and okay was worse than that. I said it before, but I've been also asked if I like films at all. Which I do. *sigh* So, before getting needlessly verbose, here's a TL;DR: The film was fine, and it's my turn to be the meanie zucchini for a change. Which is fine too, because that's usually my role when talking about films anyway. For this to make sense, I'll have to explain a bit more - and spoil the end of the book series, so take care. In King's The Dark Tower, Ka is a wheel. Ka is a concept of fate, destiny and destination the people in this world have. As such, and even though a whole lot of people were disappointed with the ending of the book series, it makes sense for the protagonist of the series, Roland, to eventually end up exactly where he started. Albeit with the slight variation of having the Horn of Eld, an item of some importance, in this new turn of the wheel. The Horn of Eld in this case is me not hating the film, which makes it different to the last time the forum - back then before Interplay went belly up and some of Black Isle's staff founded Obsidian - agreed that there's a movie of year (or better) to watch. That, back then, it was also a film containing some martial arts, namely Kill Bill Vol. 1. As I said, the difference between this and Kill Bill Vol. 1 was that I hated watching Kill Bill for a myriad of reasons. There's a fine irony here insofar as I've mentioned to someone that I will hold off on watching Everything Everywhere All At Once because I'm afraid that it will be another Kill Bill repeat. Misgivings were overcome by this thread being overwhelmingly positive about the film, and what do you know, the wheel turned. I should have stuck with my initial feeling, really - and that was based simply on the reactions of posters, not even on knowing anything about the film. Alas. I did not hate Everything Everywhere All At Once, but I also don't think it is movie of the year material. For any number of reasons, many of which are spoilers. I'll try to post some general things before marking everything for whoever still wants to watch it. Anyway, the first, and most subjective of it all, is the casting of the film. I like Michelle Yeoh. I also like Jamie Lee Curtis in most of her roles. Even if @Bartimaeus hadn't pointed out that Waymond is Short Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, I would have noticed that, because apparently he was directed to simply act like Shorty in the film during the times he wasn't told to act like Jackie Chan. Which is, luckily, most of the time. He also often still sounds like Short Round. Although that last part is an issue that fused with knowing two versions of the film, the original, and the German dub, therefore it is hard to attribute this entirely to, I don't know, either Ke Huy Quan as an actor or the direction. To add some further insult to the injury, he looks like Harry Potter throughout most of the film. Right at the start I was thrown into a film where the main cast consisted of Michelle Yeoh, someone you don't cast simply for a role as small business owner in the US, Chinese Harry Potter and Jamie Lee Curtis as tax auditor, and while the film at least proceeds to show off that Ke Huy Quan is indeed a good actor, the overall impression of the cast was pretty immersion breaking right from the beginning. I can't put this any other way but to say that I think this movie would have benefitted immensely from not having big name actors attached to it.That said, I liked most of the opening, and I enjoyed the film up until the point they had the first action scene that went on for what felt like an hour. That said, let's move the thing that saved the film: The core of it, the message, if you will. Chinese Harry Potter's take on life is wonderful, and the resolution to the character's problems is great. And yet, therein also lies an issue, yet again. There's so much more of that which could have been in the film, instead of, well, protracted action sequences that serve no purpose. If there's one damning thing I can say about it is that I actually sat through the action and contemplated skipping the film ahead to the good scenes. Imagine how much that takes. I don't even skip the really bad episodes in series I sometimes rewatch. Yes, that means watching Shades of Gray from TNG (no relation to the terrible book and equally terrible film), or Move Along Home and Let He Who Is Without Sin... from DS9. And yes, Threshold from Voyager. I ultimately, being who I am, did not skip around on the off-chance that the scenes would contain something necessary for the resolution, or some minor tidbit that would cleverly come back into play, like, I don't know, a raccoon. There were not many of these, and in fact, I would have liked the film better if I just had fast-forwarded through all the nonsense. So, hey guys, reality is saved. I didn't hate it, so unmaking the entire universe isn't going to happen (yet?), and I certainly am not going to cause the fourth trumpet to blow by loving it. It was fine. It could have been so much more. It just wasn't. No need to hold on to your potatoes.1 point

I do not believe that this is enough of an excuse to not put an excess amount of monetization into it... you know all of the pesky e-sporters have all of that money from their sponsors, which needs to be taken advantage of On more serious note, there are already a lot of e-sport games, which have excessive monetization, like Clash of Clans.1 point

$5bn required for 2022, 1.4bn actually raised (a lot of that likely pledged, so not actually supplied) and certainly not all of that from western countries. The broader issue with western aid is that it's always massively inflated in value. It averaged something around 7bn p/a (that excludes military aid and other costs of roughly 100bn) in Afghanistan, nominal, but was nowhere near that in terms of practicality as a large part of that went in corruption. And not just inside Afghanistan, aid programs were extensively used for corporate welfare. Yemen is probably a better example though, since it's more directly similar. You don't see Liz Truss talking about Britain running the Saudi blockade or Abe Linken complaining about the genocide there though*, strangely enough, just please sell more oil and buy more weapons. *though to be fair, prior to February Biden's Administration had been more critical of Saudi- though to be fair about that being fair, a very low bar to pass after Trump and Kushner- it just stopped as soon as they needed them for something.1 point

Not sure I'd that was responding to me, but I will just assume it was. I'm not big on Bethesda game design, and I felt skyrim and fallout 4 were pretty empty and lifeless. Now stretch that game design to 1000 worlds, instead of one continent or city. I can't imagine it won't be empty and lifeless. Todd basically said "the story we made doesn't matter as much as the story you make" which tells me, "our writing will be lazy, just use your imagintion"1 point

Even a large studio like Bethesda obviously can't custom craft 1000+ planets, there's not enough manpower and hours in the world for that. Presumably, there will be a heavy dose of procedural generation.1 point

The Boss Creator is downloadable as stand alone on Epic. They have made a few changes. You can now have proper prosthetic arms and legs. You also don't have gender, the sliders for breasts and groin are there and you adjust them whichever way you want. The game no longer censors nipples, unless you want to. You can also adjust "modesty" by selecting how you want the game to censor - smiley face, googly eyes, pixelization etc.1 point
