Speaking on HOMM this looks promising. Songs of Conquest Turn Based Strategy It has a "Heroes of Might and Magic" thing going on before it turned sh--ty. Basically starting with IV. I have taken a rare break from work for a little CK3. Playing an Irish petty king for the first time since the tutorial. I was having a pretty good go of it until a distant cousin with claims to all my titles through our great-great-grandparents got herself married off to some jerk who somehow ended up crowned the King of England. Well, as the English are want to do, they sent a bunch of guys with weapons in and took everything over and put me in jail. After a few years I went from being the King of over half of Ireland to an Earl of one miserable county. And the last of my family line to make things worse. Time to find that guy a wife and IDGAF who it is as long as she is young and can have kids. It's not over yet but it ain't looking good.5 points

Sanitarium as a giveaway on GOG as a part of the Summer Sale for next 40+ hours. https://www.gog.com/en And as I've mentioned in the random news, SEGA joins the GOG club as well. https://www.gog.com/en/news/play_the_thrilling_alien_isolation_as_sega_is_partnering_with_gog4 points

A report on loot boxes by the Norwegian Consumer Council: https://www.beuc.eu/press-media/news-events/loot-boxes-how-gaming-industry-manipulates-and-exploits-consumers https://www.forbrukerradet.no/report-on-loot-boxes-insert-coin/ Nothing particularly new, except the application of AI. At the moment only 2 countries have banned loot boxes, Belgium and the Netherlands. I would welcome a full ban on any loot boxes and in-game currencies, which would effectively destroy f2p games. --- To avoid double posting. https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/itchios-queer-games-bundle-is-back-offering-hundreds-of-games-for-pride-month Link to the $10 bundle: https://itch.io/b/1405/queer-games-bundle-2022-pay-what-you-can-edition There are a lot of visual novels, walking simulators, and demos of questionable quality, several decent games include: Lucah: Born of a Dream and its sequel's demo 2064: Read Only Memories A Mortician's Tale Adaca Titan Tactics The North Lofty Quest3 points

After pretty long break from gaming, I have finished my first playthrough of Heroes of Might and Magic from GOG. At the beginning I have picked the Warlock hero and after 697 of in-game days, I defeated the Dragon City in the last scenario. The game despite being so old, has still a lot of charm and I've enjoyed it most of the time. Unfortunately the not so bright AI does put some stains on the experience, but few of the scenarios would be probably very difficult, if it was any smarter.3 points

Allegedly the 35th Army, the perpetrators of Bucha massacre, has been almost completely annihilated near Izyum. And here is a translation pretty sarcastic post by Russian Military blogger, who described how the situation around Izyum looked like for this army... It's pretty sad state. It pretty much confirms, that a lot of units of Russian army are dependent on crowdfunding from common Russia... https://wartranslated.com/russian-35th-combined-arms-army-izyum-is-destroyed-by-its-own-command/3 points

I've played a bit of Old World now, and it's good. I don't know how well it's going to last though, there's a sense that they've decided to aim for the best bits of Civilisation and Crusader Kings but (understandably) aren't as developed as either, so it's a lot less... gripping, I guess. I'm also fundamentally not a big fan of one unit per tile; doomstacks suck, but there are far better fixes to that. Someone also mentioned King's Bounty Dark Side- good game, but for me at least it regularly crashes my computer to an out and out hard reboot. Says something that I still played it for ~60 hours despite that. HoMM III is a very highly regarded game- it's GOG's out and out top seller for example- so for most people anything following it would have to be a decline.2 points

@kanisatha Did you enjoy Dragon Age 2's time skips between acts? A lot of people did not. Expeditions Rome copies it but does it worse really. It does it worse, because your character comes out of Act 1 with a mission and very possibly political ambitions. So having your character not pursue their agenda in the downtime is very immersion breaking. And the writing in general deteriorates as the game progresses. While I could replay acts one and two, the thought of revisiting act three repulses me - they may have revamped some gameplay, but unless they rewrote the third half of the game, I do not see me ever revisiting this, just as I'd never play dragon age 2 again. I enjoy the companions well enough. They each have a short story arc. Nothing important really, but they work and add to the experience. I do not find the upgrades to the camp meaningful enough to recommend the game based on them. You will try to conquer all regions in each act to get more upgrades, but in reality it is just something to draw out the length of the game.2 points

Oh, Tactical Adventures confirmed that 3 remaining classes will making its way to Solasta at some point in the future: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1096530/view/33591355853613655262 points

Thanks guys for all the ideas. Probably I will do two runs (don’t know how I will have time to this ), one solo and one party. The solo I am thinking in a rogue caster MC, maybe assassin/evoker ? And the party I want to go with an Unbroken MC, don’t know if a crusader full tank or a combine with a class that brings more versatility to the party.2 points

am playing through the ashes dlc. we typical play on hard and this content represents a serious difficulty boost, due in large part to low levels but not entire. unless you are a serious glutton for punishment, we would not recommend any difficulty beyond core... and make an animal companion heavy party regardless. is our advice to go with leopards and horses as these is the best low level choices for animal companions. leopards in particular are amazing tanks and a couple o' leopards goes a long way towards mitigating difficulty spikes. observations w/o any real organization: is bugs remaining, but so far has been playable w/o having us rage quit. am liking the alternatives to combat but there is no avoiding much o' the combat. writing is owlcat standard and meh at best but chances are if you are bothering to read this and have any intention o' playing the dlc, you already are aware of owlcat writing limits and are ok with their standard fare. there are transitions 'tween areas which is... annoying. recall willodus' mansion in alushinyrra? click on the door and then you gotta choose options and make text-based skill checks to get through the mansion? not nearly as straightforward or rational as were the skill checks to reach the dragon's lair in act 3, yes? the through the ashes dlc takes what were bad 'bout the willodus mansion interaction and multiplies, then repeats the experience many times. am suspecting am halfway through 'cause am a bit beyond level three and am understanding level five is max. quest based xp is kinda nice as 'posed to per kill. in fact, for most o' the cemetery map we used one o' our leopards to draw undead into encounters with bandits and monsters at which point the baddies would kill each other. no lost xp for fail to personal kill baddies avoids the degenerative xp farming gameplay. in fact, based on our run thus far, you ordinarily gain more xp for using alternatives to combat, although a few such alternatives will rely on rope or tools and those items is also having a premium value and may be needed for those annoying text-based map transitions we already mentioned. do you topple a statue to kill a powerful spellcaster or do you keep the tools you need to knock down the statue 'cause you most definite will need at some point in the future? ... overall am enjoying though is only our preternatural obstinance which has us playing on hard difficulty. repeating for emphasis: this dlc is extreme unforgiving. nevertheless, while am only halfway done, we would recommend... save to note the enhanced edition o' wotr is only a few months remote and it might be better to wait... though no doubt the enhanced edition will create new bugs which will bork a few builds and quests and then you will possible need wait a couple more months. well, here is looking forward to the second half o' the dlc wherein we presumably need fight demons sans cold iron weapons. HA! Good Fun!1 point

HoMM IV was my first interaction with the game and I remember it fondly, so I can't really attest if there was a decline after 3, but hearing that 3 was much less hero-centric and more about the units I think I would have liked it less. I would think Homeworld 2 would take that crown, but I think that you were talking about space strategy games, in which case I would agree.1 point

I'll blame it on the weeds. I have a good-sized flower garden (my other hobby) and I had spent two hours pulling weeds yesterday evening where my whole body was wracked with pain so much so that I couldn't even drag myself to my computer to check email. Did that only this morning.1 point

Thinking of the space 4X games I own, I recall I still have to try Star Ruler 2. I've had this game for 6-7 years, I keep saying i'll play it and then shelve it. Actually one game I'd like to try just to make me feel stupid would be Aurora 4X.1 point

Dammit. You always manage to beat me to the Solasta announcements.1 point

yes, that's what fleshmender does - it loses a specific AR bonus enchantment it has (the bonus +3 AR), and gets it back later if you don't take hits. abydon's challenge is a completely different effect, where all equipment tracks how many hits they have taken/done and lose enchantment levels as they accumulate them until they completely disintegrate. afaict, there's no way to restore an item without manually "repairing" an item via the enchant menu outside of combat.1 point

I wouldnt let a silly thing like a label stop a good squatting. "Over 951 cities across 82 countries, and in over 600 communities in the United States" have been brought to their knees and the same should be done in DC to combat gun control.1 point

"Jordan Peterson is an important intellectual and influencer, I agree with much of what he says but not everything But I wouldnt put him in the same group as the Pope, the Pope really rejects ostentatiousness and seems to absolutely care about the poor and downtrodden in ways I have never seen any Pope care in my lifetime I respect him immensely even if I disagree with some of his economic ideas Peterson is more a political commentator around SJ issues and culture wars, the Pope is ....well he is the Pope. That makes him more important then Peterson could ever be IMO " I knew you were 17 rather than 471 point

I agree with your first point. CK3's biggest flaw is that playing the King of a high Medieval Christian kingdom or a tribal chieftain in the Gobi desert has a pretty similar feel. About 80% the exact same experience. But the DLCs are helping a little at a time. The Lords of the North and Fate of Iberia makes playing Scandinavian or Spanish/Catlan/Basque/Moor etc a more unique experience. I hope they keep going with that. This was also my biggest complaint with Imperator Rome. Culturally all of these different civilizations were very different but in the vanilla game they were all "Roman". The DLCs started addressing that before they pulled the plug on it. That's just how Paradox works. They sell you the auto frame and body when you buy the game. If you want the engine, drive train, wheels, and tires you need to buy the DLCs. IMO Stellaris is the bext 4X space game ever. Take away the DLCs and it just sucks.1 point

My impression of the show is that they really want to give every character something to do, even if whatever that is is pretty worthless to the story or just plain annoying. I can only assume this is at least partly because of fan pressure and trying to please everyone by giving all the fan favorites X amount of time to do whatever. It doesn't help that the cast keeps growing so the different groups of characters are becoming too large to really effectively showcase everyone outside of the slowest moments (not that I am against when the show slows down!). I would have liked for them to kill off or even just drop a few characters.1 point

It is not "the Orlan on the beach", it's Vela. Check your choices (in the previous game or in the legacy creator) to see if you kidnapped her on PoE1. If you did, then she should show up.1 point

I just had an interesting conversation with Hiravias: I never really looked at it that way, but Hiravias' indignation indicates the term wild is seen as racist. And come to think of it, it would be neat though perhaps needlessly complicated to have the race designation change when you play as an orlan (unless you have a Slave background, then you'd have the normal outsider term). Just a random thought.1 point
