Scholz, like every German chancellor before him in recent memory, is beholden to the powerful German industrial lobby, and facing an economic downturn in the middle of high inflation would be hugely unpopular. That's all there is to it. Natural gas is a major component of heavy industry (and agriculture, and a whole lot of other stuff besides heating), and Germany just won't work without it. Other nations around it also refused any gas embargo, it's just Germany that gets the flack for it. Why? Who knows. Hating on Germany is an ever popular activity and that the conservatives are now foaming at their mouthes is fun to see. I mean, how could he have denied them their god given right to rule? Putin doesn't need to have any dirt on Scholz. Also, decrying humanitarian aid to refugees is a little strange. That's just how the Dublin agreement is supposed to work. That one of the biggest crybabies about sticking to Dublin and not helping with the 2015 refugee crisis is now drowning in refugees would be delicious irony if it weren't for the suffering of innocent people (and we all love hypocritical winging, right? Right?). Make no mistake, Merkel would have waffled about just as much. Oh, and she'd have used more of her trademarked platitudes, like "We must not let ourselves be divided on this issue", the only difference is that she wouldn't have run afoul of Germany's very own dual Rupert Murdoch: Friede Springer and Liz Mohn, because she's friends with both. edit: Not a German, by the way. I also am highly biased against the CDU, if that wasn't obvious from prior posts, so if you find any polemics that you disagree with, feel free to do so. edit 2: The SPD has a whole lot of connections to Russia, that part is true, of course. However, you'll find plenty of parties in Europe, some that have ruled or are ruling at the moment, that do. Nobody refused Russian money until it became unpopular, and that was only a while ago. In France, 42% for Le Pen might not seem much, but given today's rather charged political climate and (understandable) anti-Russian sentiment, I think it is really telling that 42% of French voters still cast their lot in with someone with known Russian ties. Heck, Le Pen's party was basically bankrolled by the Russians.2 points

Illustrator and Artist James Bama. He had a lengthy career, first as a commercial artist where he did advertising art, magazine illustrations, book covers, and product images. This included illustrations for the like of THE SATURDAY EVENING POST like this one: But also for Argosy, Reader's Digest and others, doing both the slick glossies and the Men's Adventure mag market.. He may be best known to a legion of fans, though, for two different products. First, he did a lot of paper back covers like these - But he may be best known today as the man responsible for the look of the Modern Doc Savage, illustrating the iconic first paper-back release that supplanted Walter Baumhofer's original version of the character. He'd go on to do dozens of Doc Savage reprint covers; when he left the series other artists (including Bob Larkin) would imitate his style (and use the same model who posed for the Doc covers, Steve Holland) He was also did a lot of advertising art, like this for Aurora Slot cars; But he was famously the artist responsible for the artwork on the Aurora Monster models that decorated many a Monster Kid's bedrooms: He even did promotional illustrations for the premier of Star Trek on NBC that got used in print ads (as in TV Guide) and later was used as the cover of the first James Blish novelizations. In the late 60s, he moved out west to Wyoming and eventually transitioned into a fine artist rather than a commercial one. Painting whatever interested in him, he primarily did western scenes (cowboys, farmers, Native Americans, landscapes, animals), but also painted other topics (like a series on the people of China from his trip there). To an extent this is true, but Russia is completely different from the US, in general. Russia has been around for over a thousand years, and it has had two very brief periods of something resembling an attempt at democracy; one around 1917 and one around 1990(*). For nearly all of its history it has been extremely authoritarian. So, in all likelihood, Russia will NOT change after Putin. Do not pin your hopes on any kind of structural change in Russia. One important distinction, for example, is the (shall we say) Hegelian structure that exists in the west and does not exist in Russia; never has. Western countries will have a government, and the government will have an opposition. The government will have a view ("thesis"), the opposition will have another view ("antithesis"), and the policies of the country will often resemble a mixture or a compromise of the two ("synthesis"), with the government in more control than the opposition, of course. In Russia, there is a government and no properly recognized opposition whose views are respected in any way. The views of the opposition are often regarded as rebellion, and if the rebellion succeeds, the opposition will become the new government which will, again, not respect any new opposition. The entire thinking is different: much more brutal, much less inclined to listen, not open to debate. (*) In Russia, this period is not remembered fondly at all, which is a bad thing.2 points

It needs to be a melee weapon attack - therefore it won't work unfortunately. Those weapon "spells", even when tagged as weapon attacks, seldomly are tagged as melee. Offensive Parry from WotEP is one of the weapon enchantments that gets treated as a (non-ability) melee weapon attack (and thus works). From the top of my head I don't recall any weapon enchantment other than Offensive Parry that works with Skald's phrase-on-crit. A Skald/Monk with Swift Flurry and Heartbeat Drumming can maximize the gathering of phrases because Offensive Parry triggers Swift Flurry/HBD and that also counts for Skald crit-phrases. A Skald cannot get more than +1 phrase from one "attack phase", no matter how many crits rolls they produce from one attack action - so even if you proc a whole crit chain you will only ever get +1 phrase max - but this makes it a lot more likely to get a phrase in the first place because the 50% chance isn't that meaningful anymore if you can produce whole chains of crits per swing (or parry) instead of only one.2 points

They would indeed die - and the weapon was used in a Youtube video by a user to one-shoot Neriscyrlas with an empowered Whispers of the Wind. Afterwards it was nerfed by the devs so that it only would apply injuries to uninjured targets. So the injury mechanic works on enemies, too - in general. Skullcrusher with WotW should still apply an injury to all enemies it hits - but only once. But since the injuries aren't too bad (as pointed out by my fellow forum users) it's not too exciting. The alternative enchantment (+10 max health until the end of combat) also isn't fantastic - but it works with killing summons (directly with the weapon) so it's at least abusable (tried some SC Berserker with HoF and such and it's fun but not too impactful).2 points

Released a new mod. It's WIP right now and writing could use a bit of polish, but right now it adds 2 new romance options (Aenalys and Ydwin) and makes some tweaks to many of the endings which make them more satisfying (in my opinion). It's all silent of course so if you need voice acting, this is probably not for you. Even if you just want to look my writing and offer some constructive feedback on how to better word a line or whatever, I don't mind. Mod can be found here: https://www.nexusmods.com/pillarsofeternity2/mods/606 Hope someone enjoys it!1 point

So putler yakked the other day that there was a conspiracy to snuff Solovjov, Kremlin's propaganda tool numero uno. Neo-nazi, Ukrainian passports, yadda yadda, you know the drill. (Source: https://meduza.io/feature/2022/04/25/fsb-ob-yavila-o-zaderzhanii-neonatsistov-kotorye-yakoby-planirovali-po-zakazu-sbu-ubit-vladimira-solovieva-i-drugih-propagandistov) Aaaaand here be the picture of "evidence". While it looks too silly to be anything but a fake, it matches shots from the video of arrest up there. Mean people are already making jokes about how the assassination plan was to lure Solovjov into the pool and take out the ladder and it seems like a sort of postmodern self-mockery until you remember that russian state TV also presented a tome of Shakespeare as an evidence or "Anglo-Saxon mercenaries in Ukraine"... (There is also a photo of some sort of incriminating postcard that is signed with, I kid you not, "Undecipherable signature").1 point

And because Arkemyr's Capricious Hex is Enchantment and Jernaugh's Equalizing Burst is transmutation, the spell alternative is useful for some wizard subclass (a transmuter cant cast Arkemyr's Capricious Hex). The other "difference" between these spell is the AoE size, really big for Arkemyr's spell, regular for Jernaugh's one, but this last apply some affliction per target (sometimes, 3) when Arkemyr's spell only apply one.1 point

We know almost nothing. That's a bad thing. Also, given how Putin has operated during his time in power, can we think of anyone who might have been able to build any kind of support or coherent policy? I don't think so. Putin has killed part of the opposition and silenced the rest. I live in Scandinavia. I have worked for decades in both journalism and the publishing industry, which is a curious combination as it gives you very thorough information on some things (depending on your assignments) while at the same time leaving you quite ignorant about others. So, for example, I know an awful lot about Mossad but my knowledge of FBI or CIA is as poor as anyone else's -- I happened to work on a long and thorough Mossad-related project which left me with a lot of info on that.1 point

You can put it on Durance if you want. Priests ca get to very high MIG with Aggrandizing Radiance (+2, stacks with everything) + Minor Avatar (+8) or Champion's Boon (+10), Maegfolc Skull (+4) and Abydon's Hammer (+4). That's +18 (+20) MIG which is pretty cool to cast some damaging spells imo. You don't even need to bind it to him in order to test this out - because the +4 MIG also works without binding it. Combine with high INT gear (+ Aggrandizing Radiance + Minor Avatar) and then try something like Shining Beacon + Cleansing Flame. The boosted MIG and INT both add damage per tick and also more ticks so overall the dmg increases a lot. Also works with Holy Radiance against vessels. I could one-shot all but the strongest vessels with Holy radiance alone when I did a maxMIG/maxINT MC Priest with perfect dispositions. Storm of Holy Fire is also nicer with a lot of MIG bonus. This can also work if you give it to Aloth, max his MIG with gear and cast Champion's Boon on him and let hm cast damaging spells - or on Grieving Mother with something like Disintegration. I prefer the Priest though bc. of Minor Avatar (bonus to MIG and INT at also DEX and PER at the same time). You can also attack with it, but that hasn't a particularly spectacular effect imo. If you want to use it in melee then Zahua (especially with Anitlei passive from his quest + Swift Strikes + Gautlets of Swift Action) is a good pick. The high base dmg of the weapon helps all the little lashes with overcoming enemies' DR better and the slow speed (you can't durganize the hammer and it hasn't a speed enchantment) can be countered with Anitlei which otherwise often is overkill with a dual-wielding setup (already at 0 recovery without Anitlei).1 point

For what it's worth, I'm glad that Macron has won, however, it's way, way too close for my liking. Almost the half of france doesn't seem to have issues with having a right wing, russian pupped as their fuhrer.1 point

I started playing The Outer Worlds, having picked it up on sale. It's been decent fun thus far; the commercialism message is completely over the top though, much as 50's-style conservatism was in the Fallout series. It's not a setting I can take seriously, which is a drawback for me. Still, it has its moments.1 point

To be fair, it's probably got as much journalistic vigour as "Putin has Parkinsons and will retire in January [2021], intelligence sources say" which was made up by The Sun then reported by everyone else. Mostly, that meeting was just staged weirdly/ awkwardly- possibly to make Putin look tall compared to Shoigu; but Tom Cruise Complex isn't a medical condition. For whatever reason they've used chairs which aren't the right height for the table they're sitting at (easily visible in one of the stills the Kremlin released, and no I'm not game enough to hotlink from The Kremlin's website). Pretty much everything is explained by... Putin leaning back in his chair. It's not like Shoigu looks better either, he's just leaning forward instead of sitting back. Then again, guess he looks pretty good for someone who has suffered two fatal heart attacks in the last month... My completely non medical opinion on the desk gripping- Putin has carpal tunnel. Because I do exactly the same thing when I have to sit at an awkwardly set up desk/ chair combo where I can't rest my arm properly and doing my usual stretches isn't appropriate. (Lord knows what the press would make of my behaviour at a desk/ table, I spend at least half my time doing stretches) If you think the worst then every surprise is a positive one...1 point

doubt it. as we already noted, am in favour o' educators, by means o' pedagogy and curriculum, teaching their students 'bout the evils o' bigotry and prejudice while simultaneous modeling social behaviors related to those concepts... which as far as we can tell is wokeness from at least the 1960s through today. the fact young people take lessons learned to comical extremes is hardly an argument against educating. solution, if is needed, is more education and not censorship. am just not seeing how this is a real issue. if kids taking an otherwise good idea to comical extremes were a real problem we would need shut down all universities everywhere as there is nothing more foolish than the ordinary undergrad who after a few semesters believes they has unlocked the secrets o' the universe. regardless, insofar as to what is routinely being described as wokeness these days, am almost wholly unconvinced o' a problem. takes an extreme degree o' militant adherence and compulsion to some kinda imagined dogma for us to be moved to consider wokeness in education as an issue needing to be addressed. moreover, if the gop and others cannot define wokeness, the bad wokeness such that requires legislation or government interaction to curtail, with enough precision such that the s'posed good wokeness isn't also limited, then am most assured rejecting the current campaign to eliminate wokeness... bad wokeness. "If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the processes of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence."--Justice Louis Brandeis, Concurring, Whitney v. California, 274 U.S. 357 (1927) our signature is not just for show. HA! Good Fun!1 point

y'know, the thing am kinda confused 'bout is the weird preoccupation with indoctrination/wokeness and schools. obvious people has been concerned 'bout school indoctrination since before most boardies were born, but we always just assumed such enculturation/socializing were a fundamental quality o' education. in the US, particular 'round the 1960s or so, there were a general and nationwide effort to help kids overcome the baggage o' bigotry they likely had been shouldering 'cause o' past generations o' reflexive and unconscious prejudices. schools were integrated and teachers were encouraged to create classroom environments where races and genders were treated equitable. am curious why so many sudden think educators teaching kids to avoid bigotry along with chemistry and english grammar is unnecessary or even harmful. am knowing have said this previous, but human brains don't fully develop until teens and as late as mid twenties, and one o' the last stages is the formation o' a personal sense o' moral responsibility and all the rationality and social navigation skills we assume adults should possess, but so few do. schools get as much if not more chances to help kids develop social and moral as does parents and it would be gross negligent if educators treated schools as a lord of the flies or survival game scenario where other than teaching subject mater and maintaining classroom order, teachers allowed kids to teach themselves social etiquette and differences 'tween right and wrong. humans is by nature predatory social creatures who group for protection and target the weak, 'cause doing so is a good approach to survival. 'course this means kids who is different, weak, or part o' a minority group is likely to be the target o' all those base and vulgar behaviors parents pretend only other kids engage. as far as we can tell, perceived complaints o' wokeness in schools is an overt resistance to teachers being reasonable and responsible. generations o' familial and cultural bigotry don't magic disappear if educators take a hands-off approach in schools, promoting a state of nature environment where kids, freed from the immediate supervision o' their parents, make up their own programs o' enculturation and socialization. we want teachers to not only teach subject matter but to model appropriate social behavior, yes? nevertheless, am getting how this happened. the current gop is 'bout grievance and outrage. working class whites is suffering right along with historical minority groups. those whites struggling to make ends meet are angry and rush limbaugh and steve bannon helped convince those whites that they is the real victims o' racial prejudice. the libs wanna save minorities by punishing whites, or somesuch. white privilege is a hard sell to those caucasians who can't find a decent factory job as did their father or has been in danger o' losing the family farm for decades. in 2022, every time a lib mentions race and in almost any context, the new reflexive reaction from working class whites is outrage, and professional whites is willing to be complicit. check reactions to the recent Justice Jackson confirmation hearings. lindsey graham, josh hawley and ted cruz were stoking anger and it failed with most Americans, but that don't mean they failed. those senators were only genuine speaking to those who need outrage. focusing on the Q favorite pedophile angle? point out a public defender defended terrorists? define womanhood? those avenues o' attack were not meant to resonate with white suburban woman, but the gop don't care. the gop needs the trump base to stay outraged, 'cause if they don't stay angry they is gonna realize those lib programs such as infrastructure spending and easing off the trade wars is benefiting them more than were than tax cuts for the rich. the gop is current beholden to maybe ⅓ o' their own party's voters and the recent (complete not surprise) reveals regarding mcconnell and mccarthy make it all too obvious that the gop politicians is all 'bout keeping the base happy regardless o' what they believe is right or good for the republic. inflation should be enough to sink democrats at the midterms, even if the inflation is at least as much the fault o' trump and his fed appointees as it is biden's spending spree. even so, 2022 republicans don't have a real platform other than outrage and grievance. fiscal responsibility went out the window during the trump years. resisting authoritarians abroad, a gop hallmark since nixon has been replaced by the trumpy bromance with putin, xi and their ilk. trade wars 'stead o' free trade? w/o anything real, the gop needs to keep every voter and the only reason a significant number o' working class voters have for choosing the gop instead o' the libs is anger at socialism (but not real socialism), wokeness (whatever wokeness is) and planned parenthood. regardless, am genuine not understanding why woke educators is bad. teachers modeling non bigoted behavior and informing students 'bout historical evils o' government embraced prejudice were good for better than five decades, no? to Gromnir, such educational practices and goals sound positive. so it goes. HA! Good Fun!1 point
