the weird thing is that fury isn't really a keyword limitation - a lot of spells seem to be explicitly blocked from selection in the ability tree despite not having the correct keyword. i don't know if this has any ramifications with grimoire imprint though.3 points
-
Good question. I haven’t tried this exact combo but I know that: 1) a specialist mage can steal opposite school spells but can’t use them. So probably keyword limitation would apply for Druid « schools » as well. 2) A SC Wizard can steal any special Druid spell e.g. the awesome Sporeling summon and use it without issues.3 points

I am not Swedish, but the question is very hard to answer. You'd have to conduct a huge poll to find out. Obviously, you can find some kind of an answer by looking at elections and their results. I would argue that all of Scandinavia is more inclined to the former idea, but even if those supporting the latter idea are not significantly growing in numbers, they are making a lot more noise. Scandinavia is almost certainly right up there when considering the best places to live in this world. Of course, Russia has very recently changed this idea rather a lot for the worse, but Scandinavia is still right up there. There's this famous "blindness test": you're going to be born into this world. You don't know if you're rich or poor. You don't know if you're a man or a woman. You don't know if you're healthy or if you have some genetic problems. Where would you want to be born? Scandinavia is a good place, as good as any place can be.2 points

On CNN: "Video shows Russian forces dug trenches in highly radioactive off-limits area near Chernobyl." If this turns out to be true, which it likely will, we will have to invent completely new ways of measuring and indicating how stupid an army can be. Clearly words fail. Early on in this conflict, someone in St. Petersburg chiseled "NO WAR" in the ice in the river. Obviously this was a provocation. People were promptly ordered to get rid of the text. So, two people went and PAINTED over the text, which was IN THE ICE, and then, halfway through their project, they RAN OUT OF PAINT. But that was nothing compared to this headline.2 points

Does anyone know if a sorceror can use the grimoire imprint trick to steal spells that you are normally prohibited from casting depending on your druid subclass? For example, could a Fury sorcerer use minor grimoire imprint to steal rejuvenation spells like The Moon's Light and Nature's Balm which you otherwise could not learn or cast? I presume that the answer is yes, but I haven't tried it so I'm not sure if this will work or not.2 points

newsflash to putin defenders: if you thought the US and NATO were bad in january 2022, the events o' the past couple months don't make 'em less bad. *shrug* at this point you gotta expect the false equivalency, whataboutism, deflection and outright lies. is part o' the playbook. nevertheless, people have difficulty letting go o' a narrative in which they is complete invested. NATO & US = bad. ok, fine. the russian invasion o' the ukraine doesn't make NATO and US less bad, but somehow the defenders o' putin reflexive work hard to frame russian actions as a balancing equation. again, what happened in bucha, grozny and aleppo (just a few notable examples) doesn't make the US and/or NATO the good guys; is no need to constant fight that battle, but the putin defenders and the folks who has spent decades invested in the idea that the world's problems is all linked to western imperialism are unable to change tactics. is perfect reasonable and rational to see US as the worst o' the worst while simultaneous recognizing russian behaviors with the same suspicion individuals has previous reserved for the west. HA! Good Fun! edit: but, not bust. sheesh.1 point

NATO is bat**** crazy. They flew a eurofighter or some similar variant under a Serbian passenger plane near the Russia/Latvia border. The Russian asked the Serbian pilot to id the aircraft below it, after which the NATO fighter withdrew. Just in case anyone here wants to think there are actually any good guys in this whole mess... The **** they are willing the orchestrate to suit their needs...1 point

I wouldn't say melancholy. If I were to explain it in psychological terms, it would be closer to bipolar disorder than melancholy (unipolar), although of course describing it as bipolar is taking it a bit too far. Right up in the north of Europe, there is indeed plenty of cold and darkness, but what you have to keep in mind is that there is also an overabundance of light. Many is the traveller who arrives here during summertime and cannot sleep. Going crazy about life and sex and all that during the lighter months is also not unheard of at all. So yes, the climate and the latitudes do have an effect, but it's more complex than just melancholy. Remember: if you have a one-night stand above the Arctic Circle, it'll last six months!1 point

You were right! The Fury (and the other Druid subclasses) don't have the DisableKeywordAbilities effect that the Wizard subclasses have, so a Fury Sorcerer should be able to use a stolen Moonwell!1 point

I first heard of that when I watching some show on Netflix about the music industry or something, it was just on as background. The episode was about how Sweden is a major player in the music industry but how very few people know about it because they rarely mention it as it's seen as bad form. And on topic, war is bad.1 point

Oh, you've seen double posts, maybe even triple posts...but a quadruple post? We're in uncharted territory here...what the hell, KP? I was working on something great here. Now I have to start all over! Episodes 25 and 26: Was kind of the opposite for me - the longer the story went on, the more disinterested I was in it. By the end of it, I was actively yelling at Utena to drop Anthy off the ledge and was disappointed when she didn't, . Blue Velvet: I recognize a lot of these characters, but I have literally zero memory of this scene even after re-watching it just now. I don't know what to say.1 point

Hey, what in the hell happened to Dilandau? Dude just disappeared off the face of the Earth (e: oops, Gaea, not Earth) when he was the primary immediate antagonist for most of the show. Last we saw him...well, we won't talk about that. Episode 22: Episode 23: Merle continues to be great. Kind of wish we'd gotten to see more of her recently. Episode 24: I'm farming that sweet, sweet majestic karma for these doubleposts. If the morons in the politics threads can do it willy-nilly, I should be able to do it over here too!1 point

The English subtitles translated it as "jerk", even though it is the word for idiot. I suppose "jerk" is sometimes more accurate than "idiot", just as sometimes "dummy" is more accurate as well, depending on tone and context. Very much looked like he became Major Slappo for it as well. Yeah, so rug ball does not look like a game I want to play. I have literally zero recollection of that scene, and I saw Blue Velvet only a few years ago. Then again, I didn't like it, so I suppose it got ejected from my brain as such things tend to do. Black Rose arc was pretty bad, but I didn't think any of the story arcs were really any good - way too much repetition and it was borderline impossible to care or be interested in what was happening in the story itself. A number of good individual episodes and moments, mind you, but the main story was decidedly not for me.1 point

First, it's not really an actual thing, you should note the part of the text that says it's from a satirical book from the 30's. That said, it does follow our culture a bit that is all, if anything you're taught that you are special and valuable in school. We don't like braggarts really.1 point

The Chernobyl disaster happened in 1986. Probably before most of the Russian conscripts were born. If not briefed by command to keep their shovels away, they may not have been any the wiser. We're talking about an army where the common soldier doesn't seem to be encouraged to show initiative or heaven forbid, critical thinking. (and it may not have featured regularly on RT either)1 point

I think I would have liked Utena much more if the Black Rose arc never happened, with the exception of the cow episode. Maybe it's because DIO got depressed and hid in his room, maybe it's because it went into a very repetitive formula at that point, or maybe it was some other thing that subconsciously turned me off. Regardless of why, I think Utena would be much better for me if it didn't have that awful arc. I don't really mind difficult to comprehend, sometimes I think it can be good not to understand something because you'll educate yourself if it was interesting. While I don't have a top list of anything because my taste changes by mood and situation, the Lynch scene I've been thinking about lately is the In Dreams lip synch in Blue Velvet. Between the absurdity of Suave Ben singing into a staging light (which I've read was an accident), the captive audience of Jeffrey and Dorthy (and her husband and child in the backroom as hostages), and Frank Booth's discomfort that leads to him shutting down the tape, it works for me as creating a very malevolent situation while making Frank both more humanized and creepy. It's very chef's kiss for me. The other is the entire 15 minutes of What Did Jack Do?, where David Lynch interrogates a monkey. I forgot where I was going with this. Ok then, I'll probably cautiously check out Princess Tutu after I've watched some other stuff, but something like the Sailor Moon episodes without the charming crazy stuff like Usagi turning into a tennis ball sounds like not my thing.1 point
-
Episode 4 of Princess Tutu: On a side-note, I think I would recommend against Princess Tutu for KP, at least based on what I've seen so far. It's actually really difficult for me to envision him not being mostly bored with it. It's very slow and nothing much happens outside of characters just talking for 90% of the episodes, it has your traditional magical girl "ok time to wrap up the episode" mechanic, and the general type of "crazy" that it has is really more of the "events are weirdly inexplicable and hard to comprehend the meaning of" Utena variety than of the "events are genuinely difficult to predict" Lynch type that KP seems to prefer. This show is not hard to predict (all the episodes I've seen have pretty steadily followed a formula!), and to my knowledge, KP tends to hate predictable formulas. "Difficult to understand" is a very different matter from "difficult to predict": you don't need to understand why things are the way they are to know where they're going, after all.1 point

Keeping this thematically separate, so a justified double post, I think. Not that it makes any difference seeing how the human centipede ouroboros (have fun with the mental image guys!) in the Ukraine thread gets away with regurgitating their excremental ramblings in triple and quadruple posts for pages on end. Just finished with episode 24 of The Vision of Escaflowne, and I'll probably be off after this post to finish the series tonight. There's some more fraying in regards the timeframes involved and parts of Allen's and Falken's storyline keep feeling rushed due to what more and more looks like a middle part missing. Not surprising with 13 episodes missing from the run, but even so, the quality of the show remains high even though some parts of what happens in Zaibach are a bit ludicrous. At least until it reaches the end of episode 23 and all of the 24th episode, where it suddenly reaches a point that even the really good episodes prior didn't. That was just pure magic. The only problem is now that I don't see how the finale can live up to that, but let's see. edit: Uhm... huh? What the hell was that now? edit 2: Okay, done now. Spoiler for the what the hell moment: Okay, so that was a pretty good finale, all in all. A few things could have used some more setup, but in the end it's fine. Tired and it's a little late, so more tomorrow or maybe after @Bartimaeus caught up.1 point

Chief Justice Roberts joins with liberals to criticize 'shadow docket' as court reinstates Trump-era EPA rule "The majority's move, Kagan insisted, signals the court's view of the merits even though the applicants have failed to make the irreparable harm showing "we have traditionally required." "The emergency docket, she said, "becomes only another place for merits determination -- except without full briefing and argument." "The five conservative justices did not explain their reasoning for reinstating the Trump-era rule." ... for those individuals who held their nose and voted for trump 'cause they wanted a conservative Court, this is kinda the monkey paw result. in 2022 you got the s'posed limited fed power Justices collective making merit-based decisions on topics as diverse as epa rules, the franchise and free exercise o' religion, and is not as if the Court is taking a consistent federalist approach to state power neither. if a state wants to limit access to abortion or the right to vote, the Court now bends over backwards and in spite o' current precedent defers to individual states, but if is free exercise or an epa rule then the Court skews in favour o' fed authority? why? 'cause o' the relative importance o' issues to current conservative groupthink? a conservative majority has resulted in an acceleration o' judicial activism, which is so not what the libertarians and traditional conservatives were expecting when they applauded mitch mcconnel's machinations which resulted in a J. Gorsuch instead o' J. Garland. gonna repost a recent J. Scalia quote: The people know that their value judgments are quite as good as those taught in any law school--maybe better. If, indeed, the "liberties" protected by the Constitution are, as the Court says, undefined and unbounded, then the people should demonstrate, to protest that we do not implement their values instead of ours. Not only that, but confirmation hearings for new Justices should deteriorate into question and answer sessions in which Senators go through a list of their constituents' most favored and most disfavored alleged constitutional rights, and seek the nominee's commitment to support or oppose them. Value judgments, after all, should be voted on, not dictated; and if our Constitution has somehow accidently committed them to the Supreme Court, at least we can have a sort of plebiscite each time a new nominee to that body is put forward." --J. Scalia, planned parenthood v. casey, 505 U.S. 833 (1992) the shadow docket shenanigans by the Court should be garnering more attention. HA! Good Fun!1 point

I haven't made a whole lot of progress with my new Elex 2 save though I did find some really useful mods. Including, Skip Opening Logos: https://www.nexusmods.com/elex2/mods/21 (Removes the THQ Nordic and Piranha Bytes logos on startup.) Brighter Flashlight: https://www.nexusmods.com/elex2/mods/40 (Makes the flashlight actually worth something while also making the nights seem darker because of the contrast.) New Hell Difficulty: https://www.nexusmods.com/elex2/mods/58 (This does a bunch of things. Some I consider more cheesy than good, such as increasing stamina drain of swings in combat and decreasing player character DPS, but it also fixes enemy AI aggressiveness so that they no longer look at you confused for a few minutes when you come barreling out of a bush into a camp of ratboars.) Create Ammunition Fix: https://www.nexusmods.com/elex2/mods/38 (Increases the amount of ammunition you craft per set to something more reasonable given the resources needed.) Upgradeable Potions: https://www.nexusmods.com/elex2/mods/37 (Makes it possible to upgrade your potions 2 LOWER = 1 HIGHER. Making it worth holding onto your lower tier potions to upgrade rather than sell mid game.) Brave Party Members: https://www.nexusmods.com/elex2/mods/64 (Increases follower AI aggressiveness.) and the one that holds a special place in my heart: Disable Level Scaling: https://www.nexusmods.com/elex2/mods/62 (Elex 2 has limited scaling for the alien enemy types and some humanoids. This removes scaling (for any enemies you've yet to encounter if uploading this in the middle of a save) and makes their levels fixed. Warning: the late game enemies are set to level 70. Which is well higher than the soft level cap of 36-37. This mod encourages and rewards you for playing longer. It's definitely not speedrun friendly.)1 point

literal first five seconds explains what is wrong with the english language. newspaper headline: ye olde time spelling bee in town again "ye" looks like it would be pronounced yee, yes? no. weird isn't the exception. for every spelling rule there is enough exceptions as to make having a rule comical. grammar is only slight less problematic as odd punctuation rules confuse even those who teach english and tenses ain't straight forward neither. explain lie v. lay in simple terms. then explain again when somebody picks up faulkner's as i lay dying and is justifiably perplexed. there is future tense and future perfect tense, but also contractions for future perfect which is used reflexive by native speakers but may be baffling to those less familiar with conversational english. kinda a mess. gotta admit, if as a teen we had a similar photo o' a parent working through the anger stage, we woulda' found ways to replicate it ad nauseum even with admitted far more limited early 80s technology. we did have photography as an elective in high school, so perhaps we coulda' managed to find a way to even garner school credit with the image. almost goes w/o saying we woulda' had the photo affixed to the outside o' at least one trapper keeper. etc. as a parent, you don't get take backsies. On a whim I started playing Sid Meier's Covert Action again. The odd thing about it for me is that it's not a game I play out of any real nostalgia: I didn't play it back when it released, not for the rest of the 90s, not in the 2000s. I think I only played it for the first time a little over 10 years ago. And yet it scratches that one itch that nothing else has managed to in all these decades: my need for Advanced Carmen Sandiego. So while the gameplay is actually pretty sub-par, the meta-layer of investigating all the links with actual pen and paper in hand is still extremely satisfying. A reimagining in something resembling the Hitman engine would be very welcome indeed.1 point

Wicked Briars is an awesome spell imo. But maybe a matter of taste. I personally like Furies a lot but I won't use Spiritshift. The base dmg is rather low. The jump doesn't stack with Driving Flight. And a Fury gets its best bonus (+1 PEN on elemental spells) whether you are shifted or not. But if you shift you lose access to bonuses you might get from armor (e.g. Deltro's Cage) and weapon (e.g. PL buffers like Chromoprismatic Staff, Lance of the Midwood Stag, Sun & Moon, Magran's Favior or Lord Darryn's Voulge and so on). So - for your casting capabilities the Spiritshift form does nothing. The basic idea that kills can extend the duration might be nice - I just don't have the wish to shift in the first place. I agree that Helwalker is awesome. Especially if you really do want to stay away from foes. By the way: some spells work with Instruments of Pain - for example Sunbeam which already has a range of 12. It gets a 500% range increase with is... hilarious. But honestly the Barb/Fury is more appealing to me (especially when going for Lord Darryn's Voulge). Especially Berserker/Fury is really good early on bc. of the +3 PEN right away - but you MUST keep an eye on health. Blood Thirst with Storm Spells and/or Nature's Terror is just so much fun. And Lord Darryn's Voulge is like it's made for a Barb/Fury. On one hand you can use the Static Thunder with Carnage even if you bind it to the Druid class and on the other the PL to storm spells is cool and thematically fitting. I think often it's not the sheer power of a character that keeps me playing but the overall fitting "package" - and that includes thematic coherence. And I mean Fury + Frenzy... come on. Also Slayer's Claw + Berserker Frenzy will give you Energized. And that will interrupt foes with any kind of crit roll. Suddenly pulsing spells like Wicked Briars and whatnot become awesome tools for interruptin in an AoE. If you cast several of those enemies won't do a lot. AND you can combine Blood Storm or Spirit Frenzy with spellcasting, either applying a raw DoT with every spell crit or cause staggered with every spell hit. Last not least you can trigger Blooded with your own Berserker Frenzy self damage. Sure, it's tricky - but can also be fun to play around with. I just love Berserker/casters in general.1 point
