  1. Uyghur kids recall physical and mental torment at Chinese boarding schools in Xinjiang That same year, Chinese leader Xi Jinping personally ordered a massive security campaign to extinguish terrorist threats by targeting the entire Uyghur ethnic group. Xinjiang quickly began constructing a sprawling network of detention camps and started expanding existing prisons. At least hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs and other historically Muslim ethnic minorities were sent to such "transformation through education" camps to study Chinese political ideology and the Chinese language, despite having no criminal record. In some of these facilities, Uyghurs also reported being mentally and physically tortured and the women sterilized. Uyghurs with a religious background or a history of international travel — people like the Kuçars — were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. ... the seven minute listen, if you don't wanna read, is worth the time. so, am expecting whataboutism, but perhaps just garden variety deflection will be the response. @Hurlsnot so our guestimate on +20 years, advanced degree, and other factors to be achieving six figures were more accurate than we expected. at 22 years is possible. nevertheless, we keep trying to explain how cost o' living (not limited to housing) is necessary context when comparing incomes o' those o' working in san jose or nyc as 'posed to rural tn or texas. am not quite sure how to explain different so it sinks in with a few o' the more obdurate... though admitted a good start would likely be to avoid calling folks "obdurate." HA! Good Fun!

  3. Finished Disco Elysium. I made a SPIRIT BOMB and used it, went to an almost abandoned fort, and found a bug and a killer. I never did get some guy to give me his sandwich though. It was very good, probably the best narrative I played in years. While I was a bit unsure at how a dialogue only game would play at first, it really does a good job of making you feel like you're doing detective work. Furthermore, the game seamlessly goes from funny to profound to weird as hell without straining at all. All in all it's one hell of a game and something that feels pretty close to unique. Whatever ZA/UM does next, I'm in.

  4. Flapjacks with maple syrup. I tried out this high protein pancake mix: It's not bad. Had someone just handed me a plate of these flapjacks I would never have suspected that they're not just plain ol' regular flapjacks. Side note: I rarely do sweet breakfast, I'm usually a greasy breakfast guy. I do corn beef hash & eggs, bacon & eggs, sausage & eggs... Basically, some manner of greasy meat product & eggs. My dad is a sweet breakfast guy and my mom often doesn't have breakfast at all. My sister has changed her diet so many times that I have no clue what she does for breakfast these days

  8. Both Crude rope and silk rope only cost 1 resource to make but lint rope costs 3 to make. This makes building with the new burr floors prohibitively expensive. On a good run you can get 30-40 lint which makes 10-13 lint rope, which only makes 5-6 full burr floors. This in my opinion is far too little for what is one of the most limited resources currently in game. I suggest that lint rope only cost 1 lint per, like other ropes.

  9. Can we get a way to name game saves? It would help especially for those with multiple saves for different game types! I'd love to start a new game or two, but fear accidentally erasing an older game. I'm on Xbox, but I've seen PC players mention that they duplicate their saves and move them to different folders, but that's not an option for us console players...

  10. I think it would be cool if there was a way for people to access your multiplayer world when the host can’t play. For example, my son wants to play and upgrade his weapons/gather materials but I’m not always able to play when he wants to. So it would be cool if there was a way to select certain players certain roles in your world and can only do what you have allowed. Player, guest, spectator etc. maybe have a passcode or something to access the world.

  12. Lately I've been eating granola with yogurt or protein shakes because they're healthier, but when I do eat something else for breakfast I like sweet and meat. Chicken and waffles is top tier, but pancakes and meat (usually sausage) is high up their as well. As far as mixes go, the kodak stuff works good for me. There's some protein stuff that is just nasty and best not to talk about.

  15. Pretty often but mostly in the warmer months. One guy puts on a block party with a pig roast every year, another one celebrates the 4th of July with what I can only assume are illegally imported fireworks, another guys garage was converted into a pretty decent bar. Usually though its just a couple of us sitting around drinking, talking and listening to music. And I have an easy commute home.

  17. The backlash wasn't so much against the new Saudi King, as much as it was against MBS and the whole rather spotty human rights records. The only difference between Saudi Arabia and Ayatollah ruled Iran is, one is the pet of the west (despite hating the west) and the other is openly hostile towards the west. You could say the main difference is less hypocrisy about their dislikes in Iran. Saudi Arabia is a country where women get killed for not marrying the groom chosen by her dad and effectively get sent into life long slavery (i.e. can't leave home without a guardian etc.). LGBT rights? Free press? A functioning, impartial justice system? Keeping people from south east Asia as domestic slaves? Lots of reasons not to like Saudi Arabia, don't need a specific targeted killing of a system critic for that. But strangely enough, people in the west got more upset over the treatment of a Russian extremist who campaigned against Putin on an ultra-nationalistic platform with posters showing that all Muslims should have a pistol put against their heads and shot on sight to keep Russia "clean". Even Xi isn't that bad (by comparison). This guy is still alive by the way, but the west is more concerned about his "human rights" than they are/were about the murder of a journalist in an Embassy. Al Jazeera was indeed the main thing the Saudi's demanded shut in order to end the blockade of Qatar. They do seem to attract attention over the years. They HQ in Baghdad got bombed by the US in April 2003 (Bush has a long history of disliking AJ). The Bush administration was never held accountable for the killing of the journalists, lots of AJ journalists got killed over the years in Kabul, reporting from Afghanistan (ISIS in particular didn't like them at all and claimed the fist kills of AJ journalists and the Taliban too has declared them Persona non Grata in Afghanistan), in 2021 the IDF decided that was *enough* showing what life in Gaza was like and the Israeli Airforce bombed the AJ office in Gaza (destroying the AP office too as "collateral damage", because what's better than one dead journalist? Many dead journalists). They also have some very good coverage from Myanmar, so I'm sure they're on the military juntas "not welcome here" list there too. Syria got covered IMHO a lot more comprehensively than any western media did. In short, they seems to make enemies in a lot of places in the world, from the US over the Middle East to South East Asia... More ME countries need something like AJ to stand up for freedom of speech and human rights domestically and internationally. I think I did mention they make almost half of my news sources (the BBC close to they other half and then a few local Aussie and Danish sites for good measure)

  19. I can provide an example (I think its an example)... one of my friends is AA, and an obviously LGBT woman, and anytime we go anywhere together you can immediately see other peoples judgements. Or they completely ignore the fact thats shes standing right next to me and focus the conversation towards me. Its subtle and hard to explain...for example we went to Home Depot to get some stuff for her house and she asked a clerk where something was and he ignored her and responded to me and I was just standing there. Or once we went to a car dealership to drop off her car for an oil change, and I walked in behind her, and the dude focused on me first even though she was ahead of me. I dont know if its her race or sexuality (or both?), and maybe Im making it up in my head, but its really eye opening. Is that white privilege? Is that racism? Is that homophobia? Is that all three?

  22. Quick reply before a longer one (at least depending on my mood and motivation): Yes, that might seem like a contradiction, but there are elements in this I don't really enjoy. I don't hate them, so they're generally not a problem, unlike say the way Magic User's Club makes me feel when they ruin a legitimately great episode with a stupid gay joke, but when an episode ends on one of the elements then it kind of doesn't make me want to press "play next" regardless of how enjoyable the other two thirds of the episode were. My motivation to continue wasn't there after the moralizing "be a good productive member of society" episode I complained about. The next episode was pretty fantastic in some parts, but felt derivative* as a whole. Honoka, Nagisa and Nagisa's little brother visit an aquarium and then the bad guy appears. Most of the episode is about Nagisa and her relationship with her younger brother, which is very much a "constant teasing but still real love" - kinda like Rei and Usagi if they were actually sisters. It feels like I'm watching a weird hybrid between Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura, with none of the elements as fantastic as in either of the two. That leaves me with episodes I enjoy watching, find occasionally great, that also manage to make me laugh (so, bonus points even), but there's one thing they do not yet do: Give me that magical feeling of really, really, really wanting to see more episodes even though I should go to bed already or do something else, like it happened with Steven Universe's later seasons, Sailor Moon from after Jadeite to the end of S or the first arc of Cardcaptor Sakura. *With like 873 episodes or something, I expect the series will eventually become derivative not only of its forebears, but also of itself at some point. It would be really surprising if it didn't.

  23. I feel like Nathan Fillion every time this happens. How can you take everything about the original show that was good/enjoyable/different compared to the endless waves of trash that were your contemporaries...and immediately turn around and make it just like them? Is it deliberate - do you want to just make a quick buck off of an existing property...or is it just because you're a talentless hack that doesn't know how to make anything but generic trash? Directors, writers, and producers all changed between the OVA and the TV show, so I guess it could very well be either one. The show is pretty low-stakes in terms of action, so nothing like that ever really comes up. We're talking some minor traffic violations, getting a pregnant cat to a veterinarian during a typhoon*, and one actually semi-serious car-chase with some psychopath that tried to drive our ladies off the road for no good reason (which actually legitimately made me mad because of how insane that dude was being - that was probably the most outrageous thing that happened during the entire show). Otherwise, most of the show's serious moments were reserved for some nice dialogue between our characters. *Whoever made this show must've liked cats, because at least one cat appeared in every episode, and the episode about the pregnant cat having birthing issues was probably the most serious episode out of them all - they were decidedly very intent on getting that cat to the vet. Sounds like a pretty decent show. It's funny how *not* trying to impose that your morally ambiguous character be the "cool antihero" that somehow magically always does the correct/perfect thing with it always inexplicably working out...is actually the key part in what makes them a properly interesting and grounded antihero. An antihero doesn't need to always be perfectly justified in what they do (though their actions/behavior should at least make a sort of sense empathizable sense), and they certainly shouldn't always be supported by framing and/or the other characters. A magical girl show...that is "surprisingly enjoyable"...that isn't binge-worthy...for majestic? Does not compute, .

  24. I'll just focus out this, because I usually don't like any sort of crime serials or police shows, but the OVA really does sound interesting. There is one live action police serial I like where the main character is like that too. He's doing a hell of a lot of things that are questionable or downright illegal in order to do the right thing, and the depiction is intentionally ambiguous, down to earth and for lack of a better term, decidely unheroic without falling into the trap of depicting a cool anti-hero. It consists of ten 90 minute episodes and in one of them they're investigating the murder of a trafficker, and eventually find him in the form of the father of a now dead, trafficked girl who was tricked and forced into prostitution. When he finds the murder weapon (a gun), he ends up cleaning it and tricking the head of the trafficking ring into touching it during interrogation because he can find nothing else that'll stick to the guy, letting the real murderer of the hook and landing the arguably much worse guy in jail for crime he really didn't commit. Consists mostly of dialogues and very low-key police work, no flashy nonsense. Eh... didn't get to watch anything yesterday. I'll need to make up my PreCure watch schedule of wanting to get through three episodes a day so I'll be done with the series in less than a year if it really comes to it by watching like six today. So far the series has been surprisingly enjoyable, but it's not really that bingeworthy.

  25. I think I know why you guys have a very negative view of Saudi Arabia and its influence? When that journalist was killed in Turkey their was a huge global response to the new Saudi king and then yes as you correctly pointed how they kicked Qatar out of the Gulf States and Saudi and Egypt made these completely unreasonable demands with this list and one of them was shutting down Al Jazeera Qatar refused and I admire them for that decision because Al Jazeera was I think was their main objective. Now the ME is not a place where a free media matters in many countries so its important Qatar refused to acquiesce I have found all the Gulf States very well run and very accommodating for consultancy work and SA companies generate huge revenue on projects. But overall if I had to choose one country to work in for a long time it would be Qatar Anyway I think you are unintentionally comparing the ME to first world Democracies so the killing of a journalist is considered an attack on the institutions that define what most Democracy stands for? But the majority of ME countries are not Democracies and I dont think you get a truly free media in most countries. The citizens in most of these countries dont seem that concerned ?

  28. 'Funny'* thing is that half of the world leaders who have turned up to the opening ceremony are... muslim. Literally, 10 out of 20 of the leaders there are muslim. In contrast the only muslim 'country' in the diplomatic boycott is Kosovo, which doesn't even have an independent foreign policy. It's deeply ironic that when you get an actual and genuine case of muslims being persecuted muslim 'champions' like MbS or MbZ kiss the ring and muslim little b brotherhood be damned. And you have those with similar supposed sentiments who didn't turn up- one Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for example; since he's in the prelims of an election race and the optics wouldn't be good- sending Uighurs back to China despite all their talk. *For something I actually found funny, the country with the 3rd most contestants in the Olympics is listed as ROC- which is, of course, the abbreviation for Republic of China, ie Taiwan. Sadly, in this case it actually stands for Russian Olympic Committee...

  33. Funny story, my father used to work down the docks here many years ago. There are some amazing stories that come out of a working port if you know the type. Gold bullion came in, and as cinema rarely shows, gold bars weigh a lot. So you'd basically have a wooden palette holding three bars. The dockies had to pick up a palette and transfer it to the rail car next to the offloading area. The usual armed security there with the ticking and counting of all bars at each stage of transport. Dockies being dockies, they weren't carefully setting things down when it was that much effort, to if they could, they'd basically do a swing and drop rather than carry and carefully settle into place. Everything is accounted for, onloaded onto the rail car. Security onboards around it, and it gets shunted off to a different area of the docks. The dockies start to move onto the next job. When suddenly, someone spots in the middle of the tracks, a lone gold bar. Guessing there was a hole in the rail car and the throwing a palette in had broken and just dropped down. While some dockies are blinking and looking after the guards and rail car heading off... One walks over and drops his hat on it. The moment the car had disappeared around a corner, he picked it up. Now, all this gold has been accounted for when it head headed off so, officially, it was still there on the count. Apparently he kept it in the back of his shed, and every month or so, he'd saw a corner of it off, melt it down, and go sell it to a pawnbroker and then have drinking money and buy drinks for his mates for the rest of the month. Too much hassle to try to get rid of that much raw gold at once, so he just.. simply used it for drinking cash over the next batch of years.

  34. Yeah they're technically ability properties and not buffs so there shouldn't be any conflicts. The jankiest interactions are with flanking. Physically flanking stacks with everything. Flanking through perception afflictions and Phantom Foes does not stack with everything for deflection malus and -1 AR. But you can't just replace debuff-flanking with physical flanking, you have to un-flank them first, and then physically flank them. This means that there is much (perhaps unintentional) nuance with flanking. For example, you want to physically flank your target, AND THEN use Confounding Blind, or else the deflection malus won't stack with the flanking from perception affliction.

  35. Yes, but in case of Barbaric Smash it's like with the other attack abilities which get a dmg bonus (several Rogue strikes, Fighter's Mule Kick and so on): the innate dmg bonuses of those attack abilites seem to always stack with everything.

Sometimes it really is an animated Manga (literally) and sometimes you get more exposition in the moment before a fist hits a face than a full novel Interesting enough so far to keep me going though. Need to find out more about that stone mask that turns people into vampires and Dio needs some kind of horrible, final death too...

  42. I just found out "PoE 3 wont happen cuz developer dont know reason for unsuccesfull" My very own opinion: 1. People still didnt finish PoE1. 2. People was expecting PoE1 be like dungeon and dragons, but PoE is not. Is about gods and anymancy. =I LOVE IT, however todays fans MAY not like it= 3. PoE2 is about pirates. And not about dragons. 4. Shortly after original sin 2. Poe1,Tyranny,Poe2. TO MUCH. Still PoE2 is better than all of this, however noone found out it. 5. I belive if PoE1 was like PoE2(but with no pirates), continuation would be MUST BUY. PoE1 for most of time was boring. And what i think could be solution: Make ETERNITY (not pillars of eternity, pillars of eterrnity 3, or whatever) If u would do poe3 noone buy it again. Do same what Hitman1/Europa universalis series: Sell game cheap with limited content, but with same character and saving progress. If u make Base game cool(i dunno for 10 hours content) people will like more. Game can be short(lets say lvl1-6), but it should be prety sandboxing(5-6 classes maybe), sell more classes(with some different story soultions maybe) as DLC, sell ACT 2(lvl7-8), ACT 3(lvl9-10), ACT 4(lvl11-12) as DLC. They have to be quite large dlcs(lets say6-8hours, but with very slow EXP gain) make DLC with no EXP gain(to not ruin balance) to get some more story + get some extra items/traits(like WM but no exp gain). Make this game this way, that after couple of months when DLC will come i will be happy to buy dlc and return to this world[maybe with autolevelup+random choices] if customer would be happy to start from new act(dlc). Make story EASY for casual player for (lets say first 2 acts), and then hopefully give us cookies. Make big price cuts on base game, but not on DLC. Todays fans dont have that much time. We want games shorter, but more interesting. Dont need to waste time for turn-based content. Give us more STORY content. Even if we have to pay. GOODLUCK!
