  2. Bah, Epic outrage was just US imperialism gobbled up by the consumers and spewed out as farce for consumer rights. The same people who cry about evil Epic (timed) exclusivity, happily embraced Steam exclusivity as the way of the future.

  5. Gotta love that the hot coffee was and is so controversial... considering you can murder countless people, buy hookers and kill them for a full refund. But having sex with a girlfriend is a bridge too far. Gotta love modern morality.

  6. I think you meant to say “If you thought blatant exclusivity was gonna stop at Playstation”. Epic isn’t even a comparison, as they don’t own the studios - they just buy exclusivity (aka. Pay for them to not release on other platforms). It’s closer to what Microsoft did in the past - paying for Tomb Raider to not release immediately on PS. Also unlike PS, (for now) Microsoft releases on PC, on multiple stores on day one, and probably on gamepass, making it such a good deal. I might even give Starfield and Elder Scrolls6 a go, if I will be able to play it through gamepass.

  9. Yes. There's no limitation for multiclass characters regarding subclass choice - except some Paladin/Priest combos where the favored/disfavored dispositions (cruel, benevolent, honest, clever and so on) would clash. So for example Kind Wayfarer/Priest of Skaen is not possible. Official companions come with fixed (sub)classes. You can't change those (except with mods or the use of the in-game console). Most of them use the vanilla classes (for example Eder, Aloth) but some use subclasses (Xoti as Monk for example has a special subclass, Serafen has a special Cipher subclass, Fassina is a Conjurer and so on). Sure. Herald is a strong combination. I personally would go Swashbuckler. I even use Eder Swashbuckler as main tank and it works well. At the same time it has more offensive capabilities than a pure Fighter. Fassina as Sorcerer is fine. She is a Conjurer Wizard and an Animist Druid. You can't change that if you're not using mods/console. Priests are good as single class. Their highest spells (that you can't get as multiclass Priest) are very good. Also you gain access to very impactful buffs sooner (single class chars gain access to higher level spells/abilities sooner than multiclass chars). Def. not a waste. Tekehu is fine either way. But the Druid spells he gets as bonus spells from his Watershaper subclass are very good because they are all foe-only. For example a foe-only Chillfog is a very convenient and effective spell. Druids are actually better healers than Priests, so you can use Tekehu for healing, too while Xoti focuses on buffing. Both can deal good damage with spells, too. One of the strongest offensive spells in the game is Great Maelstrom. If you want that Tekehu needs to be single class. But as I said: he works fine either way, even as single class Chanter (Stormspeaker). If I counted correctly you already have 5: Herald, Eder, Fassina, Xoti and Tekehu. In Deadfire your max party size is 5.

  10. Absolutely. I play PotD exclusively and I feel no difference between hireling and official companion of the same class. Except that official companions are more fun to bring along if you care about banter, special dialogues, personal quests and such. Attributes are not that impactful for the majority of the game (they really aren't). And where they have the biggest impact - that is in the early game at very low levels - the official companions have the advantage of +1 level compared to hirelings. If PotD is your choice for a first playthrough it's most likely going to be a very rough ride anyways... Don't blame it on hirelings or companions then. The most impactful stat on game difficulty is meta knowledge and understanding the (often obscured) mechanics. What can happen is that official companions don't have the "perfect class" for your party synergies. But a Herald is so universally useful that this shouldn't be a problem you will run into imo.

  11. Honestly, I think that stat allocation is much less impactful than class choice, abilities allocation, synergies/combos between characters and abilities, even gear/items are often more impactful IMHO. The only thing that can make a bigger difference on PotD is Perception for higher Accuracy but with a balanced team you have plenty of ways to boost it and debuff enemies' defenses. You seem to have a good idea of what/how you want to play and who would fill in the gaps, so I would go with that and really not care much about stats. I think it's hard to find a team composition with story characters that is not viable on PotD. Pallegina can be a Herald healbot just fine, Xoti is ok whatever your class choice (of course at lvl19+ she can carry the whole party as SC Monk, but she doesn't have to. Priest SC/MC is more interesting if you actually want to use your party). Edèr is always nice (much harder in the beginning as SC Rogue), Fassina is really great as Sorcerer. Tekehu is totally fine, I'd be partial towards SC Watershaper or Theurge vs. SC Stormspeaker.

  13. Note: I had the community patch and balance polish mod installed (in case that affects some of the interactions of abilities). I modded Rekke's class/subclass choices for this build. These two subclasses play nicely with each other and have a good amount of synergy. The Helwalker side gives us some nice buffs in the form of Swift Strikes (for faster action speed), Clarity of Agony to reduce hostile effect duration, and most especially +10 Int and +10 Might from the Helwalker trait and Duality of Mortal Presence. Enduring Dance can quickly get you to 10 wounds for that +10 Int/Might. The main drawback of Helwalker is that you take a lot more damage. On the Fury side you get bonuses to Elemental keyword spells (penetration and range) and a special shifted form at the cost of not being able to cast Restoration spells. You're essentially encouraged to cast from afar (which plays into staying out of danger lest the Helwalker drawback get you killed) and cast damaging Elemental spells with increased pen, AoE size from the Helwalker Int, and damage from the Helwalker might. In most fights you get to stand in the back and just unleash on the enemies. You sometimes want to get a tad closer for Relentless or Returning Storm to be able to hit but even then the AoE size is pretty decently large. If an enemy happens to get close enough to attack you, your shifted form has a fast-cast teleport spell to bail you out and reposition yourself. The biggest drawback to this build is probably not getting access to the last two Druid power level spells for Great Maelstrom and Avenging Storm. However, both of these spells exist as scrolls so investing in Arcana can alleviate this issue. There's also the helm Heaven's Cacophony which gives you a per-rest cast of Avenging Storm. Avenging Storm is nice when combined with the Fury's shifted form which has a bounce to its attack, giving you multiple lightning strikes per attack when you don't want to cast any more big Elemental spells. I happen to not like using consumables very much, though, so I didn't often use Maelstrom/Avenging with Rekke. Absent those spells he felt somewhat less impactful. Relentless/Returning Storm have nice stuns but its random and therefore less reliable. Spells like Hail Storm or World's Maw were nice, especially with the humongous AoE size but their damage was often underwhelming compared to the AoE from my MC as an Arcane Archer. I think I expected this glass cannon to have a bit more cannon (he certainly had the glass part down when at 10 wounds ).

  16. After 20+ attempts I finally managed to beat Ludwig, The Holy Blade. Was a huge pain and it cost me at least 15 insight. In the end I kinda just won by accident, because for some reason I've managed to land 2 visceral attacks on him before he was able to burn me to the ground (a matter of seconds). Thing is, the game can be easy if you are able to manage all it's mechanics ... parry and visceral attacks make it *a lot* easier. The problem is just that I am often unable to perform them in time. It's not even the input lag, but some actions don't want to trigger or trigger with delay. Example: I need to heal asap, but I also need to gtfo. What am I doing? I'll jump back quickly and heal up.. but the healing didn't work (I was still in the last frame of the jump probably) and in this split second I realize the boss will hit me again, so I try to jump once more, but then suddenly the healing triggers and I'm stuck in place and get hit ... Happens all the time. Kinda wish there would be some extra training mode, where you can just do stuff like dodge and parry without loading times and long walkways.

  17. I can never decide if I should post in this or the streaming thread. Anywho, I watch The Legend of the 10 Rings on Disney+ and it was really good. Like, I only expected to be half interested (because I know nothing about the character) and it really surprised me how much I liked it.

  18. It's not the episode that got me the most, to be honest, there are others (Meiling's send-off for instance). I also agree that the episode with Dream was fantastic. Emotional montages, I get that. SU's was pretty good, but I think I really need to go back and watch at least parts of season one again now that I've seen the whole series. I have a feeling a few of these episodes would work, perhaps not better, but differently, or would be enhanced by knowing (and loving) the characters already. Speaking of montages (Sailor Moon "spoiler", I guess): The episode simply wins by doing everything right while at the same time being emotionally powerful enough to cause a tear or two, besides it's bittersweet instead of just sad. One thing ends, the other clearly begins (in earnest this time). Oh, and by being really surprising. Never thought she'd go and do that (I know I'm repeating myself ). What I don't understand is how nothing else from Ms. Ohkawa came close to that. Although, caveat, I still have to try Magic Knight Rayearth. More Sakura talk:

  19. Oh yeah, I keep forgetting that tear gas is a "war crime". *sigh* What a world. Too bad the Brown note doesnt work. That would have been awesome and hilarious at the same time.

  20. fyi overseer rings are also good because the area bonus actually works with consumables (bombs and scrolls) whereas intellect boosts get ignored (one of many annoying aspects of consumables not benefiting from stats).

  23. Instead of an Ascendant it should be a Soulblade with Shared Nightmare and several kills under his belt (because +10 max focus per kill). With Strand of Favor or Salvation of Time + Brilliant etc. you can even prolong the max-focus-bonus and stack them until infinity, giving you "World-Wide-AoE" in theory. I'm sure there's an internal cap of some sort lest the game crashes.

  24. A long time ago on Discord, someone joked about a Priest of Nemnok subclass, and I could never let go of that idea. I'd been hoping to go all the way with it, and perhaps one day I will, but for now, here's a pure humor mod that renames all priest spells.

  25. I think it would actually be SC Ascendant, max Focus, Phantom Foes with Shared Nightmare.

  26. There are a lot of damaging Wizard spells that are no evocations. Also she has no limitations on the Druid side and could pick any damaging spells from there, too. Damaging Wizard spells that Fassina as Sorcerer could use: Jolting Touch [/] Kalakoth's Sunless Grasp (C) [-] Ghost Blades (C) [/] Chill Fog [++] Combusting Wounds [++] Concelhaut's Corrosive Siphon [+] Necrotic Lance (C) [++] Noxious Burst [/] Wall of Flame (C) [++] Ninagauth's Bitter Mooring [++] Malignant Cloud (C) [/] Wall of Force (C) [+] Death Ring (C) [++] Ninagauth's Freezing Pillar [++] Tayn's Chaotic Orb [+] The (C) spells are actually Conjuration spells which means Fassina will be more powerful with them than other Wizards would be (Conjurers get +2 Power Level for Conjurations spells). This means more damage, duration, accuracy and penetration. The sign in the square brackets is my opinion on how good the spell is in general. Some - like Wall of Flame - are not great alone but really good in combination with other spells. In this case Wall of Flame + Combusting Wounds is very good. The latter. She will be a Conjurer/Animist As I showed above there is no real need to replace her. She can do plenty dmg as Conjurer and you can also use the Druid side for damaging spells and use the Wizard side for other spells (e.g. crowd control, debuffs, self buffs) if you wish. Sorcerers in general are very versatile. Instead of focusing on one single purpose (deal damage) they are much more suited for versatility and have some good tools for every situation: crowd control, healing, debuffing, (self)buffing: a Sorcerer can do it all. That's right.

  28. Several Overseeing items will stack by the way, so wearing two Rings + Aloth's Armor gives +35% AoE size iirc.

  30. Oh man, I assumed Thunderous Blows' might did not stack with the Helwalker bonus. The pen is always nice but I decided that my spells had enough different damage types that I could usually find a weakness in enemy armor without further pen beyond what I was already getting. If I knew the might stacked I definitely would have picked it up. For DoT spells I don't think there are very many Elemental keyworded ones? I did use Plague of Insects but felt kind of dirty every time I did because it wasn't Elemental . I really wanted to lean into the Fury/Elemental shtick but maybe that gave me tunnel vision. I did use an overseer ring with him. I agree that getting the range of Relentless/Returning to be large is paramount because you really want to be able to stay at range to protect yourself. Usually I could safely put the enemy front line into range of the Storm spells but maybe not the enemy ranged units.

  31. I am beginning to think ground bases are not planned for as you run the risk of grass explosions, hostile mob spawns inside buildings, mob caused building deteriorating. The only safe areas are pretty much paving stones, the log at the hedge(not the marker quest one) some the ground beneath the hedge, inside certain cans, post haze table and under the porch. Seems beyond that you risk wolf spider spawn in when you wake up from bed or mosquitos

  32. We are still small enough to be food for them but they are smart so they might be tameable. Be a nice little guard dog for your base. Maybe be milkable for silk. Maybe put that some of the omnitech scientist tamed a few and the behavior spread among the species. Causing them to beg for food and you can drop a body part/meat from a bug to make them friendlier and do the dances they do.

  35. Strangely, the episode that "got me" the most is still the episode you just posted a picture of, S2E5/E40, but purely because...well, it was a great episode in of itself, but especially because of the montage of memories near the end. I might just be a sucker for good emotional montages with characters I love, though. Although obviously very different, that one in particular conjures some similar feelings, at least for me, to Pearl re-enacting her old war-time stories with Rose back in season 1 of SU. My heart attempts to bloodily carve itself out of my chest anytime I watch that one.
