Swelling in my feet is basically gone today, so that's good. Instead of heading to the doc for a drop-in time, I decided to book a time in advance instead. On another note, I'm a mean bastard. My niece wanted to play a new game today, Simon says. The first thing I hit her with? Simon says, don't blink! She tries desperately to hold her eyes open for a few seconds before I see a lightbulb turn on in her eyes... she closed them! I see a bright future ahead of her!5 points

I started building my greenhouse today. It will be 10' x 4'. I dug out a base and poured a 2" concrete substrate. The placed pre-formed concrete step stones on it to make the floor. The idea being the gaps in the step stones will provide the drainage to a plastic trough I'll build on the sides. I don't trust my masonry skill to attempt a sloped floor or proper drain. This is what we've got so far.4 points

Nope, just by the filling cape slot by Violet Redemption (last drop in the game, in Ukaizo) you can say it was theorycrafted by someone with less hours played than most of veterans here spended watching intro (it was unskippable at realese). All good sc monks(mortar monk, melee helwalker, builds abusing Eders armor and keeper of the Flame or disengegment/parting sorrow) are build around WotW/resonant touch/ajammut cloak and steady stream of wounds.3 points

I have no idea what you're on about. All the protests in the US were terrorist attacks by Antifa and BLM where the murder death killed each other after and probably also before some looting and raping. FAKE NEWS you NAZI. You really should ask the glorious tangerine in chief to swoop down and save you with the power of unmarked vans and agents disappearing people from the streets. Because in Trump US, Soviet is you. Or however that meme goes. edit: Well that's less fun than I thought it would be. Eh...2 points

"They killed the Giggler, man. They had no business doing that." Bronson did get a lot of money for DW3, but it was a bigger deal for Cannon (who were making a lot of money on cheap action films and they pretty much made a franchise out of 80's Bronson) and director Michael Winner, whose films The Wicked Lady and Scream for Help were bombs and he needed an easy money maker.2 points

We could probably just agree that running over protesters with your car is bad, and pulling people out of cars and beating them to death is also bad, instead of choosing one over the other.2 points

Your last point is almost cruel because it so effortlessly dismantles the other person's argument -- but yes, you are correct. What you highlight there is something that appears to be common on forums like these: people have strong opinions, but they have difficulty appreciating that no facts or conclusions naturally follow from their strong opinions. When we try to determine the relative failure of Deadfire, opinions don't really count for much (including my opinions, of course). Heck, I think D:OS2 is not a good game at all. I gave up on it in something like three hours, because it's so poor, in my view. But in terms of facts, I am one of the people who contributed to it being a huge success, even if I think it's rubbish.2 points

Outer Worlds is a completely different game. Fantasy vs. Science Fiction, 2.5 D isometric RTwP vs. 3D FPS, PC only vs. multiplatform. That's a bit like saying Deadfire sold poorly because it didn't have the same release model as Fortnite. If you want to draw comparisons then you have to compare games of the same gerne which cater to the same audience: isometric, party based fantasy RPGs. Those that sold a lot better than Deadfire (PoE, Pathfinder:KM, D:OS I and II) all kind of had the same release practices as Deadfire with later DLCs- which apparently had no big effect on the sales numbers. Some of them were much worse in terms of bugs at release (PF:KM for example, D:OS also was a bit borked at release). Even old games like those of the Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale series had expansions which were released a lot later. Much later than Deadfire's DLCs in fact. And all those games had their fair share of bugs. One could argue that the decision to integrate the DLCs into the main game leads to more players waiting for those expansions before buying/playing the game - but then they would buy/play it at some point later which wouldn't hurt overall sales numbers - it would only spread them. Why would a majority of potential players be so put off that they skip the game entirely - just because there are expansions coming later? Doesn't make much sense I think - on an individual basis: yes - but is this an explanation why the sales numbers dropped to 1/5th of PoE's (which had the same release model and was successful with it)? I don't think so. If that would be true then all games that put out DLCs over the course of several months or years would get hurt badly. But they don't. Ask Battle Brothers and their plethora of awesome DLCs that all came out months and even years after the release of the main game. The last one came out last week (over 5 years after release) and it seems it's a big success. Battle Bothers also still gets patches that fix issues and balance stuff. Imagine players waiting 5 years to finally play a "finished" Battle Brothers game... Also publishes ususally know from experience and market research which release practices work and which don't. If the release model of PoE, Deadfire, Pathfinder:Kingmaker, Battle Brothers and so on would be so disadvantageous they wouldn't do it anymore. Explaining why Deadfire sold badly is def. not easy. Not even the experts and people with deep insight know - so saying "it's no rocket science" sounds a bit presumptuous. It surely is no rocket science to you to explain what you personally didn't like - but that doesn't mean it's indeed the reason for the massive sales drop. After all you did buy Deadfire despite your release-related concerns - so your anecdotal reference doesn't even work for your own argument.2 points

Mostly household chores and weekly assignments for my postgraduate studies. And um... hobbies in general (not work, I know). As silly as it sounds, I can never seem to find the time to read all the books I've prepared for myself, paint minis, etc... even though objectively I'm not hurting for free time. Both sound like good ideas. I'm definitely guilty of getting overwhelmed by the accumulation of neglected to-dos. Thank you. I don't think I am anywhere close to that level of discipline; on the contrary, LadyCrimson's post made me realize that its severe lack may have been feeding into the entire issue. Even though I have some pretty standard working hours, I still feel like it all blends together with my downtime into one boring mush, and as a result, I can't ever rest. It's a trivial complaint, perhaps, but it sure feels like I'm getting pointlessly tired for reasons I can't even pinpoint, as if every hour somehow turns into two, evaporating somewhere. Amazing superpower, isn't it? Getting tired from doing nothing. In any case, thank you for your positive words. I'm happy that you managed to crawl out of your own pit and, for the most part, beat back whatever demons have been holding you back. I wish you all the best and hope you'll stay on that good path - you've crushed your nihilism, and that's no small feat.2 points

You got acorns, you got an acorn tree, what eats acorns? Squirrels! Do you think they'll include them in a future boss fight or something in the background in the distance that we see but cant interact with like something aesthetic. Just curious.2 points

This might have been mentioned already but my quick search turned up nothing. If like to see the ability to move placed items without recycling them. Like the water container, when empty it should be able to be moved after placed. Plank and stem pallets, jerky rack, smoothie stand, etc. All need a move option. Aggravating when I build an item and then days later want to move it closer to where my base is but lose materials from having to destroy and rebuild it. Not everything should be moveable, I don't want to drag my house around, just utility and food prep items.1 point

According to the leaks there are companions but they will be done differently than the outer worlds. I am currently playing "trails in the sky" and really enjoy how companions work in that game. You play as Estelle and her always companion Joshua. Throughout the game you meet companions. As you progress the story, they leave you with your party of two. Until you meet new characters. This system might not be for everyone but I really like the way it's done. Wondering if perhaps avowed could take a similar approach. Pluses being -never choosing the "wrong" companion and missing out on unique reactions -more easily programmed to react to a situations/missions(think red dead 2 gang members joining you on a job) instead of just following behind you they can actually serve a specific purpose -realism in the sense that most likely 10 different people won't be willing at any moment to follow you anywhere you go Negative -replayability is the biggest one. However they could make certain companions only join you if your morals align. And their reactions would be different depending on choices during the mission -you might really like a companion and be sad when they leave - would mean there is no real party system That's all I got right now. How do people want companions to be done in avowed? Also how would they like it to be done? I personally would like a party system but I think it's unlikely to work well. I think most people won't like this idea. Just starting a discussion1 point

Hello, not sure if this has already been talked about but I had an idea when it comes to building. I was getting my base ready for the upcoming update and wanted to replace my normal grass walls with sturdy walls. The process of replacing each wall with the risk of destroying a build and loosing materials is getting old. I was just thinking that a feature could be added or looked into where for example if you have a regular grass wall, instead of destroying the wall completely, you could just add a wood stem to it making it a sturdy wall, saving a lot of time. Obviously this wouldn't work with some things but I thought it would make peoples lives a lot easier. Again, not sure if its been talked about but just and idea.1 point

That's the state between Kentucky & Alabama for you. The greenest state in the and of the not so free. A lot of folks I know are actually pleased by this. It's short sighted to cheer the government using power to crack down on people you don't like. Someday it WILL use that power on you. You know where our biggest failure as a people lies? We have mistaken democracy for liberty. Generally you can't get the latter without the former. But the former is no guarantor of the latter. Getting to choose your oppressor is not going to end with liberty.1 point

fixed skarp_one with his consistent reading fails. lord knows we ain't suggesting "young" is a positive, particular when it comes to voting. our consistent disgust with antifa and its supporters invariably highlights how the demographics o' that group skews in favor o' youth and education. is simple a fact that trump voters, generalized, is less educated and less diverse. the thing is, they vote. individual we love dealing with florida man, regardless o' his country o' origin. one-on-one there is some satisfaction in rare needing deal with anything but florida man when addressing trump support. however, we keep stressing just how foolish it is to pretend as if such folks don't matter during national elections. point out how clear wrong-headed and obtuse is florida man as an individual is self destructive if one pretends as if florida man's vote counts less when truth is he (and is also a valid generalization to observe how trump is losing women votes regardless o' economics or education) more likely to vote. our recent post 'bout the fail, from our pov, o' the dnc to embrace those portions o' the country and population which still feel betrayed by obama's messages o' hope should make skarp_one feel a bit sheepish as he is repeating back to Gromnir a criticism we just made. I have some insight into this that's perhaps a little different than Lady Rojas. As a recovering nihilist, I will say that I spend an inordinate amount of time sucking down adult beverages. By that, I mean ETOH. Okay, fair enough. That, in and of itself, should be grounds to take my posts with a grain of salt. However, I do what I gotta do in situations where I gotta do it. Doesn't make me important and sure as hell doesn't make me a hero. I'm just a guy doing a job. However, there's more to life than doing a job. I've become disciplined so that I can ruthlessly cut myself off from things in order to pursue a goal. Ask my family about that... at least the ones with whom I still speak. You should pursue the good. You should do good things. You should never sacrifice the good for the sake of the perfect. I honestly believe, Skazz, that your allotted days come from the Lord and how you dispose of them is for you to decide. I, personally, was in a deep dark hole. I dug myself out, but some part of me will always be in that hole. The part that dug himself out will always judge himself harshly. That's life, brother, but you gotta live it.1 point

Well, those thunder storms with its 1000's of lightning strikes were cool to look at, but we're (California) on fire again. Santa Cruz area is the closest a major fire has been to where I am (Oakland Hills decades ago was another) - not close enough to be dangerous to us but in that almost everything that's been evacuated or burning are places we've been to/driven to many many times, beaches, parks, towns. And ofc the air quality is the pits and smells terrible even at our house. Kind of depends on what type of "job-unrelated" work you're talking about. Stuff that requires daily or weekly doing? Once or twice a year stuff that you put off for longer than that? The main thing tho is to realize it's unlikely you'll ever be fully caught up with some sort of to-do list since it all cycles around again. You try to do enough on a regular basis so it never becomes overwhelming from being ignored too long. If you're watching TV or gaming or some other "attention-sucking" hobby, set a timer/alarm and don't ignore them whey they go off. Those things can be the utter worst for losing track of time/making days feel really short. if it's household/yard stuff, don't worry about perfection, either, or you'll find you only get one thing done instead of 3-4.1 point

know v. know how to google the definition of a word not the same. lord knows we do not claim to know the definition o' every word. is no shame in being ignorant. what is surprising is that given how easy the internet makes it to quickly dispel ignorance o' new words, functional vocabularies would appear to be shrinking rather than growing, at least as is represented to by national trends in scores from those standardized tests which is designed to do little more than reveal mundane knowledge. is also shocking to see so many misinterpret dictionary definitions. am suspecting many o' us have had an inigo montoya moment when perusing internet message boards. is more than a few people who appear convinced that dictionary definitions is kinda/sorta generalized suggestions. will have persons argue a word could mean something it does not 'cause o' their reading o' a dictionary entry is no less valid than professor bloom's or noah webster or... kids these days. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Avowed is an awesome name. It's short, phonetically pleasing and hints what the game's storyline is about (Woedica stuff) but is still mysterious. And it starts with an "A" which makes sure it always is among the first in the list - once that's sorted alphabetically. For example when people look up "list of Skyrim clones" on Wikipedia. Having no "Pillars" in it also makes sure there's not too much confusion whether the game is connected to PoE & Deadfire with more than the IP. "Pillars of Creation" on the other hand sounds like the name of a homebrew D&D campaign or a self-pulished novel on Kindle. But it's not corny enough... yet. "Pillars of Creation: Oathbinder" - now that would give the perfect would-be huckster vibes. Nothing beats the pregnant colon.1 point

Cute bug I wish could be a feature: A Worker Ant accidentally got into Bouncing Web and was not able to get off for about an hour of real time bouncing constantly with funny squeaks. It was extremely funny and got us a lot of laughs while we were building our 4th base next to it. It was very sad to see it leaving in the end. If it would be possible to get at least Stuffed Ant to do the same - we would love to have such feature:1 point

Pillars of creation doesn't really make any sense. I mean... The pillars dont create anything. Pillars of eternity is in regards to the endless cycle(I think... Maybe it's the gods being eternal? Either way it makes sense). What would pillars of creation mean. Avowed is a fine name. As I've said in another post, the title has a tyranny feel to it. As oathbinder is avowed.1 point

Opps sorry, I thought this was a request programme. Didn't realize one has to justify their preferences. I would argue that you can't dumb down a game if you remove dumb things. Not implemeting stuff that I don't like leaves more resources for the stuff that I do like. Especially if it's resource-hungry quicksand like homes/strongholds and the pale imitation of interpersonal romantic and/or sexual relationships which usually need a ton of good writing to be somewhat non-cringeworthy. PoE and Deadfire have an unlimited stash by the way. If an unlimited stash is enough to turn a game into a shallow action shooter then PoE and Deadfire are shallow action shooters.1 point

I'm not objecting to crafting and all that, but what I would want first an fromest, before even thinking of those, is rich character systems that create the feeling that that what ever you're doing, matters some how. One of the good things about TES games of yore, was precisely that. Even moving aroung affected character progression somehow, and the systems therein seeped into other systems, e.g. fatigue affecting chances of success in locpicking, spellcasting and hitting your targets, succesfully creating your potions, etc. That's the sort of feeling I miss in todays games. The feel of playing a PnP session where the GM means business when it comes to systems and character progression.1 point

This isn't PoE3, though. You might as well go on Grounded's forums and say you want it to be PoE3. Avowed is not PoE3, it is something else, even if set in the same IP. Also, that Avowed is being made doesn't mean Obsidian won't make PoE3 at some point. I certainly hope they make it.1 point

I agree. that said I think Dragon Dogma was a party RPG, while being an action RPG, no? (Never played it, just from what I can understand). However, if indeed party dynamic was a bigger focus in Av I would be surprised that they wouldn’t hint at it in the teaser, which has very solitary feel. “Different than Outer Worlds” might go the other way as well - That they role might be different then adventuring alongside us. or maybe that just means that we won’t meet Parvati or SAM in Avowed... which goes without saying.1 point
