  2. Bought "Darkest dungeon" for grimdark, but it's actually funny in slightly darkish way? Not complaining, though. At first it was so addictive I burned my tea kettle twice, later -- when difficulty suddenly rises up outside training wheel dungeons and you notice both need to grind and anti-grind mechanics -- enthusiasm dims a little but it's still fun, only better consumed in bite-sized doses. Initially thought about testing class synergies vs different dungeon critter types via "volunteering" suicide squads, but found out I don't have a heart for throwing those sad sacks of dysfunction into the meat grinder so will have to resort to using wiki. So far so good, lost 75% of a party only once but that's entirely on me (Evil looking idol: "place a torch here to summon unspeakable horror" Me: *places a torch* Unspeakable horror: *materializes, eats the party* Me: "...I wonder what I expected ")

  3. for a goodly number o' years we indulged in commercial and residential real estate ventures. there were a common hurdle we faced with sellers, a singularly common hurdle. price at which a person would wish to sell property were as much a matter o' what the seller needed as it were dependent on what the property were worth. property is worth $5 million, but seller needs $5.5 million. solution? well, obviously the seller should invest a couple hundred thousand in improvements and advertising and then wait for the right seller in order to get price needed, yes? after making additional investments o' time and money, the seller would become even more wedded to needed sell price. such thinking is obvious idiotic, yes? *shrug* perhaps feargus needed deadfire to make X dollars? easiest way to cut costs o' pretty much any business is to fire folks. especial when the people working for you is well known and/or friends, cost cutting will be a painful endeavour and non-heartless bosses will go to extreme and sometimes stoopid lengths to avoid the obvious firings. "if deadfire makes X dollars, then i don't need to fire bob and jane and steve and..." am not making excuses for feargus. lord knows we wouldn't make excuses for feargus. am also having no idea what were feargus' actual thinkings regarding seeming curious development choices for deadfire. nevertheless, we has been in the situation where we needed X dollars to keep from firing bob and jane and steve. it is not an enviable position and am gonna admit we have gambled stoopid in the hope success would mean we wouldn't need make obvious needed labor cuts. turnover at even successful indie game developers is notorious common. being the boss at an indie game developer who genuine tries to keep good people employed for longer than the duration o' a single game development must needs be challenging. am not saying feargus pushed for vo, and ship-to-ship combat, and whatever other bad moves you wanna catalog 'cause he needed deadfire to be successful. we don't know. is an example o' a mere possibility. nevertheless, when otherwise intelligent people make obvious blunders, there is often a reason for such mistakes. perhaps the reasoning were foolish, but rare is obvious blunders as simple as they first appear. HA! Good Fun!

  4. given expectations, deadfire sold poorly. expectations were all wrong. the fig campaign were successful; brought in loads o' money. while the pledges were considerably fewer in number, dollar total were higher for deadfire than poe. whatever sales expectations obsidian had for deadfire, the fig campaign shoulda' clarified the situation. poe disappointed many purchasers. no surprise. particular given the manner in which obsidian were advertising poe, many purchasers wanted poe to be bg3 ultra, combining all the stuff people liked bestest from the ie games. try and pinpoint what were the essential aspects o' bg2 and ie game success were elusive. nostalgia is emotional far more than rational, so trying to identify and balance essential features for everybody were a doomed proposition from the start. followers o' feedback for poe development no doubt observed how frequent the case people were not 'membering the ie games reality, but their recollections were illuminated and altered by the warm and highly personal nostalgia glow. even so, am suspecting obsidian did a pretty good job o' satisfying numerous poe purchasers. again, the robust fig pledges for deadfire revealed an enthusiastic core following, yes? obsidian failed to realize what they had and as such their expectations for deadfire sales were all wrong. invest more money to make deadfire were misguided. obsidian had built up considerable brand loyalty with a single game, but while fans o' poe were arguably more enthusiastic for deadfire than they were for poe, there were clear signs there would be fewer such fans. in spite o' such signs, obsidian indulged in extravagances such as full vo? ... given the fanbase created by poe, am suspecting (am no expert) obsidian coulda' made financial successful poe games in perpetuity just so long expectations and development costs were reasonable. in fact, am suspecting deadfire "failure" did not hurt poe brand loyalty. no doubt obsidian could still make successful poe games in the future 'cause the people who liked poe by and large liked deadfire and would probable buy a poe3. however, expectations need be reasonable. try and sell microsoft on the idea o' poe3 challenging bg3 sales would be fanciful. HA! Good Fun!

  5. I also don't appreciate Full VO. For me it adds nothing to a game. I couldn't care less if it's all voiced or not. Honestly it's more likely that I get annoyed because the VO is messing with me reading the text. I like reading text. And books. Full VO in RPGs with lots of text is like reading a book while listening to the audiobook at the same time.

  6. Hey everyone! As it's been a year since the release of Deadfire, we have come to the point of moving on to newer projects and ramped down the Deadfire staff as a result. We will no longer be fixing any issues we deem to be non-game breaking. At the moment, we are only aware of a few potential issues for some users that can prevent player progression and have come up with solutions to these issues. If we find that there are any progression breaking issues going forward that prevent gameplay, we will look into finding workarounds or potentially hot fixing them and adding those to this list. The following are the known issues and their workarounds. Players with general performance issues, freezes, or crashes, we have compiled a list of diagnostic steps that have worked to varying degrees for other users. You can find the list with some instructions listed below. Reduce graphics settings Restart game Delete or move excessive saves Disable Unity Console mod - if applicable Remove Unity Console mod - if applicable Verify Integrity of Game Files - Steam - GOG Reinstall Deadfire Change PhysX settings to GPU instead of Auto Install the Special K mod with recommended settings Update graphics drivers Update operating system Check for faulty RAM - Steps to do this can be found here Roll back graphics drivers Reinstall operating system Mac users who are having graphical issues where large sections of the map are white, it has been found that if you save the game and load the new save file, the map will go back to normal. Players have reported Nungata disappearing from Serpent's Crown and being unable to turn in quests. This is not a bug as she leaves the area during the quest The Final Maneuver and will return to her normal location when that quest is resolved. If you run into an issue different than the ones listed above that prevents you from being able to continue your adventure through the Deadfire, please feel free to let us know in an email and attach any screenshots, output_log.txt files, save files, and crash logs that may assist us in helping to resolve the issue. Should you need information on how to obtain those files, you can find instructions here. Please send these emails to support@obsidian.net and we will do what we can to get you back on track. We at Obsidian want to send our heartfelt thanks to this wonderful community for being so supportive of Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire! We hope you will continue to enjoy Deadfire for many years to come and hope to see you in the next great Obsidian adventure!

  7. Absolutely loving the game and decided to chronicle the journey of my Captain Hawthorne (a former tossball mascot named Brewer Cole) and the intrepid band of the Unreliable. I also have an instagram page for it: https://www.instagram.com/theouterworldsadventures/ One of the immediate things that struck Brewer about Phineas Welles was that in picking somebody to save the universe (alright, the colony) he was not just going to pick just anybody. It was only after careful deliberation would he choose just the right person for the job!

  9. four (five) issues we seen getting mention for 2021 collective bargain: 18 game season *insert eyeroll here* revenue sharing post career player health care franchise tag and rookie contract duration there doesn't appear to be much resistance to the idea of increasing player health care benefits after they end their careers, so that is good news, but league responsibility and payments regarding cte related stuff may require negotiation. however, should be ez to work at least basic increased standardized health benefits into the cba. a fifth issue, which is also sorta a non-issue but even more so is marijuana testing. am suspecting the league either drops penalization o' mj use but keeps testing, or drops testing and punishment altogether. again, doesn't appear to be any real resistance from players or owners. HA! Good Fun!

  10. There is footage of a missile strike now, but it's not exactly as unequivocal as made out (most of the objections are listed in the twitter chain). Looks like Trudeau has just made the accusation official now.

  11. I don't want to repeat myself - but it seems that several people still don't consider the following (very basic) point that contradicts most of their arguments, including this one: If the sales numbers dropped so harshly because a lot of players didn't like PoE or Deadfire for whatever reasons (be it overly complex mechanics - you name it) then the user reviews would reflect that. Which. They. Do. Not. If anything then this is glaring obvious - and indisputable. I don't understand how such arguments can be repeated over and over again when this question hasn't been solved yet. Nobody who came up with such a theory was able to explain this baffling conflict. Even if some of those arguments sound reasonable: this simple point seems to invalidate most of them. But maybe there is an explanation for this. I just can't think of one. It would make some sense if players knew beforehand how the mechanics of Deadfire worked - like from playing PoE - and decided not to buy it then (hence no reviews from those players). But then why didn't they voice their dissapointment in the PoE reviews?

  15. Those didn't work for me. Gameplay is far to simple to engage. No amount of effects will make pressing forward with occasional jump excited to me. If one wants an effective escape sequence, then one needs more complex platforming to be able to throw something against the player. See, for example the excape from the tree sequence from Ori and the Blind Forest. In TR those are just noice to me, with no imaginative imput. Is this the right place to use Ludonarrative disonance? I think so. TRs are full of it. From the opening where Lara is lost, and by herself, but player is handholded throughout majority of the game, to death threatning situations, which are solved by mindlessly pressing forward with occasional unresponsivenes to your imput when Lara's scripted stumbles happen.

  17. I flat out hated the 2013 reboot, while at the same time recognizing that it was a fairly good game. It just wasn't what I wanted out of a Tomb Raider game. I wanted to raid tombs, not play a cover shooter with a Tomb Raider coat of paint. I found Rise to be a significant step in the right direction. Still WAAAAAY to much murdering for my taste, but at least there was a good bit of tomb raiding. The jury is still out on Shadow, but so far so good. Then again, they instantly won me over with the OG Lara character models (I'm easy like that). If nothing else, the game is super pretty and jungle ruins always look great. Also, I will say this for the reboot trilogy as a whole. There's at least one thing they fo really well: The OH ****!!! EVERYTHING IS COLLAPSING AROUND ME. RUN!!! setpieces are rad as ****. If they made a game that was entirely challenge tombs and run for your life setpieces, that would be my jam.

  18. Cold Creek is a navigable waterway so right there it is public property. Me doing anything to it is just a non starter. Plus even if I could the kind of earth moving I described would be extrememly difficult. Probably beyond the reach of one determined man with a Bobcat and backhoe. There is a small creek on my property. It's pretty brisk in the spring and summer but almost dries out during the fall and early winter. From a state law standpoint there is a little more I can do with that but as Gromnir pointed out I cannot (and would not) impede the flow. But I did use a shovel and hollow out a bowl depression to make a little pool about eight years ago It's 2-3 feet deep depending on rainfall. Tommy used to sit in it with just his head and neck out if the water. It's usually teeming with minnows and sometimes I'll catch a few and use them as fishing bait.

  20. Hello everyone! I just wanted to answer a few of the comments here. First, I would like to let you know that HDR support will not be coming to the game, so we apologize for any inconveniences this may be causing some of you. Regarding the small font size, we are working on this and hopefully will have more information for you all soon. Same goes for ultrawide screen support; this is being investigated and we will keep you all updated. The Long Ranger bug is also being investigated, thank you for the report. As for the "Head Bobbing" option, we did receive reports from some players that this was negatively impacting their game play, making them sick or dizzy. Because of this, the ability to turn the head bobbing on and off was added. Now regarding the PS4 saving issue, we are still investigating this issue. At this time, if you are experiencing this can you please contact our publishing partner, Private Division, so they can collect the information we need to help our investigation? They have been fantastic in assisting us with all these issues and have been helping us compile the information needed to further our investigation. I hope this information helps, and if there is something I missed, please let m know. Thank you!

  21. Never use it since Cadhu Scalth is so much better (with the proper skillset). But I think in general I would stick to the Thermally Stable --> Nonconductive route... I guess...?

  22. that's true, but in general I find Sigilmaster Auranic to be waaaay easier than Hauane O Whe and less needing of explicit equipment gearing. Rest in Konstanten's room, bring along some potions of (improved, if possible) arcane reflection and those potions that give you resolve resistance or svef.

  23. On the other hand, sticking with Nonconductive and Suppression sets you up against another megaboss, specifically Sigilmaster Auranic.

  25. Deadfire is "done". Chances of a content patch are pretty much inexistent, chances of a bugfix patch... quite tiny I think your best bet is spawning Benweth with the console, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Note that doing so will disable achievements for your playthrough. Failing that, you could probably set the quest outcome with the console and give yourself his loot while you're at it, if killing him is the solution you have in mind. And while I'm here, not to sound too preachy... in the standard encounter Benweth has like five goons helping him. You worked your way to ambushing him alone, and probably had a full party, so the two skulls wouldn't have helped him much I mean he's actually terrified of you in that situation and doesn't even want a fight.

  26. Mass Effect trilogy. Outer Worlds made me crave some classic Bioware stuff. Plan was to play Mass Effect2, as it's been a long time since I played it, but as I didn't have a save to import, I loaded a half-way complete save for ME1 and completed that first. I also plan to continue over to ME3 - never played any of it's DLCs, and the last time I played ME3 was around it's release. I am curious if I will hate it as much as I did back then. I am surprised that I don't enjoy ME2 as much as I did. For all it's faults ME1 had scope, consistancy and immersion, which ME2 lacks. Small things, but they matter - changing how traveling works, means that Normandy leaves the station everytime you return to the ship . Being in direct control of the ship, just doesn't gel, with being commander, rather then pilot. No Mako sequences make the world feel small, even though content wise ME2 is most likely far more packed then it's precedessor. While combat is improved, it is still not a good action shooter. The only thing I don't miss is managing the inventory, which was a boring chore in ME1. Plot of ME2 has some odd plot choices and forced melodrama, which I didn't bother me before. There is also far less companion content then I remembered. Overall, ME1 felt much more grounded and immersive, then ME2. ME2 feels much more gamey, and faster pace breaks the illusion much easier.

  33. Cole's Law: Always have the right equipment. Being a tossball mascot had taught Brewer Cole the importance of good equipment. Look, comfort, protection and of course... visibility. You needed good visibility when you worked as a mascot. There could be nothing more awkward than having to pose with a celebrity and misplacing where your hand was due to poor costume visibility. The same applied to any good piece of armor!

  34. Cole's law:A leader must inspire his flunkies...That's what made Brewer Cole leadership material. His ability to inspire confidence in those beneath him. That's what made him a great tossball mascot and what now made him an amazing captain . People would blindly trust his judgement and follow him into the breach to anywhere, knowing that Cole would ALWAYS lead them to success and safety...
    1 point
  35. If being a Tossball team mascot had taught Brewer Cole one thing, it was 'Always be prepared!", and by that it meant making sure you were looking good in your outfit. One never knew when a sports photographer was gonna capture you doing your sideline jiggidy jig. This is the sort of thing that made him uniquely qualified to be a Spaceship Captain. His new mechanic, Parvati seemed eager, but was certainly niave, and would need much of Cole's experience and mentorship if she was to survive out here in the outer colony.

  36. Wanted to make traditional greek Gyros, but ended up making something quite different. Seasoned lamb strips with pepper, salt, paprika, thyme and oregano. Instead of tzatziki, I used rømme ("Norwegian" sour cream), and mixed in scallion, salt, pepper, and the juice of half a lemon. Slices of tomato and red onion. All packed into brioche hot dog buns, with feta cheese on top. No space for fries sadly! Was quite good, but next time I'll add some chili pepper, and maybe have the red onions pickled as well. Or just make the traditional Gyros I wanted in the first place.

While trying to get that support, we worked with various users who had these graphical issues and collected a list of solutions that worked for them. If you are still having performance issues I highly recommend trying out the solutions listed above as they've helped a lot. I'll edit the post to have the list here instead of using a link to them.
