  1. robert e. howard woulda' been dismissive o' chainmail bikinis. howard's red sonya were a non fantasy character who wielded sword and pistols during a time when suleiman i were active... mid 16th century? one o' the many reasons to regret howard's suicide is acknowledgement the red sonya character were introduced in a side-story short before his death, and she were kinda fantastic. howard's death meant we only got a single sonya story, and she weren't even the main character in the tale. red sonja, the character who made the chainmail bikini popular, were a marvel comic book character. even red sonja didn't start out with a chainmail bikini, but a bit o' promotional artwork depicting her clad so were popular beyond expectations, resulting in a new default character design, and an enduring comic book and fantasy art trope. wheel o' pain sorta stuff, on the other hand, is the invention o movie conan, which is owing little to comic book conan and arguable a bit more to howard's pulp fiction and novel (singular) conan, though perhaps to a cartoony degree. howard did indeed makes his conan an übermensch prototype, and there were nihilist philosophy being advocated in conan stories, but movie conan eschewed any pretense o' subtlety and made the nietzsche elements focal. riddle o' steel is a movie invention. nowhere to be found in howard. all o' which ignores fact the only reason we went through this exercise is 'cause it gave us an excuse to use a link which included mako narration and the riddle o' steel intro from conan the barbarian (1982.) HA! Good Fun!

  2. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21872 Appoint a leader for a settlement that takes care of the general buisiness, manage it if you want or leave it be. I usually just appoint a leader and leave it be, and it's nice to have some use of Preston. The only annoyance is that you can only appoint followers (In the base mod atleast, from what I remember - though there are more mods that fixes the mod), otherwise you plonk down a desk, appoint a leader and then watch a cutscene where the mod outlines the buildings then connect wire to the recruitment beacon. I think you might have to connect powerlines, but I'm not 100% sure about that. Also, the settlements evolve over time, so it gives them the appearance of growth too. It's a dang cool mod, I'm very impressed by it. Edit2; Forgot to mention, there is a rather small downside to the mod, the mod needs to clean out the settlement in question of all placeables, so it will wipe your own efforts before it rebuilds a new settlement for you.

  4. Actually this is exactly what I hated in the books. I wanted to read about Geralt and every Ciri-piece bored me to death. I've re-read the short stories a dozen times, but I just can't force me to get through the later books again. I just don't like her / her story and I hated these elements in Witcher 3 as well.

  6. Then you can use what I do, All-In-One Settlement Solution: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6304 It makes a craftable 'generator' (which only costs 1 steel, I think) that can be placed in a settlement to give 40 food, 40 water, 40 bed, 100 power, 100 defense, and increases settlement 'happiness'. Now, beds don't just pop into existence (though that would be cool), it just tells the game that the settlement has those resources so you almost never get alerts from the settlement about their 'needs'. You can craft as many as you want in a each settlement, assuming you have the resources to do so. The settlements still exist, you can still build them up manually if you want, but it lets you get around having to do so.

  7. God Eater 3. The story picked up the pace and is moving in the direction I like. It took just 19 hours. My party successfully defeated Anubis, the large aragami from the opening movie, and reached the 6th rank/story arc.

  8. Yes. Metaknowledge is very valuable because of that. Of course you can try to equip your characters with a broader variety of dmg types. For example not only give sabres but sabres in weapon set 1 and hammers in weapon set 2. This is often better than focusing on a special weapon type and try to raise PEN via modals (which have drawbacks). Certain character ideas with certain unique weapons may collide with that approach though. But from a mechanical perspective flexibility usually is more valuable than specializing (when it comes to weapons and PEN). Even a Devoted can profit from that because fists do always get a proficiency and can be a good backup option (if you picked a non-crushing weapon as Devoted - like sword or battle axe - and if you take Monastic Unarmed Training). This is from the perspective of PotD difficulty (since enemies' AR is +2 there). On lower difficulties you can get away with less optimized weapon use since you will encounter over-armored foes less often.

  9. The bad news it that Reboot 1 and Reboot 3 are clearly made by the same team, unfortunately. I like Reboot 2 quite a bit more as well (my "Shadow of the " playthrough just fizzled out, should probably get back to that eventually). If I can have Reboot 2 with the tombs of Reboot 3 we'd have an acceptable nu-Tomb Raider, imho.

  11. No, I totally forgot. And now I can't remember what I did with that. I'm on the road so it'll be a while before I can check, but that's on my new & improved checklist now. : ) How'd that happen? I'd love to hear the story! Indeed. I'm thinking that most of the comments I've heard in the "low-budget" range have been complaints about the shortness of the game. But then other people are very happy that it's possible to get through the game in a reasonable amount of time (where "reasonable" means "not ground down by so many main-arc-related fetch quests that one loses all interest in the game"). You can't please everyone. But I love it for the stories, like you. The depth of the characters, and how they change, is really awesome. I'm hoping for more places to explore also, and maybe ways to explore the companions' backgrounds and motivations even more. It would not surprise me if Obsidian/Private Division did that; they clearly put a lot of thought and work into them. I think of all of the stories, though, "Slaughterhouse Clive" was the most disappointing. You really don't have a long-term productive choice there. On the first run-through, I skipped it entirely. On the second run-through, I did the option that lets you let SubLight and Clive team up, and boy do I regret it. I wish I could just have Aethel kill Clive, ghost SubLight, and then go fetch Tobson and say, "hey, I've got a management job for you on Monarch..."

  13. You should see Riposte as a nice addon, not as the centerpiece of your whole build. A rogue with Badgradr's Barricade is pretty sturdy (for a Rogue anyways who else is squishy as hell) but can never compete with a fighter or paladin when it comes to tankyness. You should still play him offensively and not dump everything into defense. Several attack abilities as Crippling Strike and Blinding Strike etc. work very well with a bashing shield since offhand strikes first. By the way: Riposte also gets triggered by misses and grazes from Disengagement attacks. There are some talents (like Graceful Retreat) and items (Nightrunner) that give you a bonus against disengagement attacks that stack with any other deflection bonus. You can then run past enemies, trigger disengagment attaks that will most likely miss or graze and eventually do a Riposte. This shouldn't be used a a core technique but it can make running past enemies in order to reach backliners rewarding.

  14. Adaptive gives you +2 ACC per hit for 30 secs. It stacks up to 10 times (and should stack with everything else since it's from a weapon). Thing is that you basically get up to 10 instances of Adaptive which all last 30 secs. So it's not uncommon that the first instance runs out while you are not yet at 10 stacks. If you are hitting too slowly you can never reach 10 stacks because the first ones already expire. So let's say you hit every 10 seconds (just for simplicity) and add a stack (stack A,B,C and so on, seconds remaining in brackets): sec 0: A[30] --> +2 ACC sec 10: A[20] B[30] --> +4 ACC sec 10: A[10] B[20] C[30] --> +6 ACC sec: 20: B[10] C[20] D[30] --> +6 ACC sec 30: C[10] D[20] E[30] --> +6 ACC and so on. If you'd only hit every 10 secs you'd only be able to stack 3 instances of Adaptive. If you'd be able to attack every 5 secs you could stack 6 instances. On-hit usually includes on-crit when it comes to procs. Flames of Devotions should add their ACC bonus to everything. Also works with Ring of Focused Flame by the way (another +10 ACC). Usually you can check the used ACC per attack roll in the combat log (press shift while hovering over the log entry).

  15. I also prefer more focus on Geralt, I dont mind the Ciri story arc but I dont want that to be the primary aspect of the broader narrative In fact I am going to play the " its sexism and discrimination against men " card to focus on Ciri in a saga where the protagonist is a male

  17. The Witcher: there are three story lines in season 1, they are Yeniffer's (which starts 70 years in the past--I'm using the book timelines 'cause I'm not sure how altered the tv timelines are), Geralt's (which starts 20-40 years in the past), and Ciri's which is current. It makes sense you consider the season is an adaptation of the short stories and we aren't to the book series proper yet. Geralt's story are the short stories, that's why they are very monster-of-the-day, because in each story the main plot hook was different and solved within that story. Ciri's exits to tie the season's beginning and ending together and as a segue into season two where the plot will be more traditionally structured. And Yen's story is . . . to add lore that didn't exist in the books (regarding magic)? Also, assuming the show is a faithful adaptation, Ciri is the ongoing main character and not Geralt.

  18. Those are the dmg reductions when underpenetrating (AR-PEN < 0): -1: -25% dmg -2: -50% dmg -3: -75% dmg If you have -4 or-5 it doesn't matter, it's still -75%. Those are the actual numbers. Also see: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/227477-pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire/faqs/76599/armor-and-penetration The -70% thing was an early version that got patched into the more granular one you see above. As you can see it's simply -25% per point of underpenetration until you reach -3. Note that this dmg reduction is not a simple additive malus but goes through double inversion most of times (as long as you have any damage bonus as well), meaning the dmg loss is in fact way more severe, especially if you cumulate several maluses. For details see: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/227477-pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire/faqs/76599/inversions Tl;dr: avoid underpenetration at (nearly) all costs since it's one of the most severe dps losses you can have (besides misses, grazes and hard CC). It also means that having very high AR is extremely beneficial for your survivability. It has a lot more impact than armor had in PoE1.

  21. Not sure why I find F4 better than F3, I guess because it doesn't shy away from what it's trying to be, an open world shoot 'em up that focuses more on mechanics and physics than half-assed RPG mechanics. I always skipped the settlement building stuff because it simply doesn't interest me. Bethesda: Bloated budgets and some fun if you're willing to overlook the bad dialogue and cheesy markety gimmicks. However, I do have a feeling some of these so-called "HARDCORE RPG GAMARS" like Bethesda games more than they admit.

  23. Or so guerilla marketing teams would have one believe. Though Aladdin is probably more a result of rewriting a story being a doomed effort, rather than some corporate sexism masquerading as veneer of progress #ghostbusters. Still Jasmine's number was awful all around, tonally a departure from the score, and thematically could have been actually empowering without immediately denying her her moment by turning her into a damsel in distress.

  24. Resident Evil 2 Remake Absolutely solid remake of the original, some interconnectivity issues in regards to the A and B scenarios, lazily done but it's small potatoes when you look at it from a gameplay perspective. Metro Exodus It's Russian and jam packed with modern hardware requirements, what's not to love? Although I do try to shy away from post-apoc stuff because it kinda glorifies nuclear devastation to a degree and cements dangerous and unnecessary ideological differences. Really too bad about the bugs. Great and beautiful game right down to the nitty gritty, though, Stellaris All in all great and appropriate Paradox game. They all seem to suck me in for hours on end, and that's what a game is supposed to do. Keep it up, Nordic Ubermensch! The Outer Worlds Probably best RPG of the year, as the plot and characters are supberb, and the character building holds up. It's lack of budget shows unfortunately but with promised DLC upcoming perhaps a 1 or 2 year down the road GOTY edition will cement it to eternal glory (maybe I'm exaggerating but wouldn't it be nice?) Final Fantasy XV Love the open world, the graphics, the gameplay, and even the plot holds up despite some cheesey dialogue and some obvious rushed elements. Still, for a first wide open Final Fantasy in the post-modern graphics world it is a solid start so let's hope Sqeenix builds on it in the future. I'm sure there's many others but these are the most prominent.

  25. All successful modern countries have some form of state enterprise for those who can't make it in the private sector. I don't see Democrats and Republicans going away any time soon and they are both pretty avidly anti-socialist so sticking a third party in there that offers a sound alternative would benefit everyone, even private industries as they would be forced to compete and offer better business solutions. Everyone wins! Also better education/healthcare is ranked as a positive most everywhere. Perhaps we don't have to go universal but those employed in either sector should be offered better benefits in that regard. Sure, I may be a little troll-y in my Gommunism, but in reality I'm like 1/3 Gommunist at best! xD The problem is the American right, they are absolutely convinced that anything "social" is absolute evil, Wall Street is in full force pumping out anti-Marxist propaganda and there's no shortage of idiots here who gobble it right up. Which could lead to a Civil War-esque clash very soon... There's literally nothing wrong with being environmentally conscience and producing conservation sectors that help preserve nature. It's not only better for the plantet but better for humans as well.

  27. The problem with XBOX's befuddling naming scheme isn't a problem for you or me. They can call it the XBOX Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (thank God for copy & paste) for all I care. If I go to pick one up (unlikely, but who knows) I will understand what systyem I am picking up because I am a gamer and I follow this stuff. The problem is when random mom or dad who gives zero ****s about gaming goes to buy one for little Timmy and gets utterly confused because multiple machines share the same or highly similar names.

  28. I don't really agree with people saying Jaskier is perfect (which I see all over the place). In the books he has a more insightful, serious side, and is a good verbal sparring partner for Geralt. In the show he's rather simple, and is usually just reduced to comic relief.

  31. Hey guys, new to the forum but in need of desperate help. I'm playing the outerworlds on xbox one and I have made it to the labyrinth. I get to the door with the restricted sign on it and it says to the pit. I go through and kill some guards, yadda yadda yadda. Anyways as soon as the game auto saves or if I try and manually save the game will crash and take me back to the home screen . I've saved in other areas but it only does this in the pit. Any help or advise would be helpful , thanks .

  32. It is kind of an interesting slant to think of ADA as a wife for the "captain" but it doesn't really work when you take in the interaction ADA has with SAM. Then in one of the cut scenes after you finish the game there is the possibility that Parvati stays one the ships and develops a relationship with ADA. How relationships in games are handled has always been interesting especially when the characters story starts in the middle of the consciousness stream. It is not really mentioned but hinted at that the corporations would of preferred a family unit as colonists as opposed to individuals since it is easier to influence someone who has more then just themselves to worry about. It can be assumed that we the protagonists had family on the HOPE which might be a reason no romance would develop between us and a crew member. I am casually playing Red Dead Redemption one of the quests is from an NPC that is an ex fiance of the protagonist I might of been projecting but I liked how the dialogue hinted at all the things that had happened between two people when she asks for help. It would be really cool in a sequel or a DLC to see how the people on HOPE that I assume you knew where developed with all the past experience at least hinted at.

  34. First, let me give you some basic information: Every type of armor has a base armor rating (a number). For example, on leather armor this number is 5. This means that leather armor provides an armor rating of 5 against all attacks, regardless of damage type. It then has Crush 3 and Freeze 3, this means that instead of 5, it only provides an armor rating of 3 against Crush attacks and Freeze attacks. Without understanding anything else about the system, what this should tell you is that people in leather armor are more vulnerable to crushing and freezing damage. The next thing you have to look at is the type of damage you're dealing and the penetration value of that damage. Every weapon and damaging spell or ability has a penetration value listed. This value is compared against the armor's armor rating against that damage type. So if we use the above example of leather armor and we use, for instance, a fine war hammer which does piercing or crushing damage, the interaction would look like this (simplified): I attack (my accuracy against your deflection), I score a regular hit. My war hammer has a penetration value of 9, your armor has an armor rating of 5 against piercing and 3 against crushing, the game will use crushing damage for the attack since it will hit harder. Because my penetration value of 9 is more than double the armor rating of your defense, my attack will do 30% more damage (this is called overpenatration). If the reverse were true and I were attacking your fine brigadine armor with an armor rating of 10 against my club with a penetration value of 7, then my attack would do -70% damage (this is called no penetration). It sounds like what is happening is you're using an attack type that the target is extremely resistant to so you're dealing very little, if any, damage to your target when you hit. You can see the relative stats of your target by hovering over them in combat, you'll see a list of their defenses and armor ratings against certain attacks. Make sure you're targeting their weakest ratings if you wish to drop them quickly and easily.

There is similar thread started by never-seen-again user with the same naming scheme and there was at least one since deleted doppelganger of that post. Thought it kinda odd that Xbox would need such sneaky tactics, but maybe it really isn't, seeing how too much exposure to them filthy things make people build in-brain adblocks.
