  1. Edit Nov. 15: Greetings fellow spacers, We want to inform you that Patch 1.1.1.0 will not be ready until Monday, November 18th. We apologize for this inconvenience as we tried to get this out to you this week, but due to some unfortunate circumstances the patch will not be ready until early next week. Again we are sorry to have to push this update back. We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this delay. ________________________ Greetings fellow spacers, At this time, we would like to let you all know that we are looking at releasing a patch next week to implement some changes and bug fixes. This patch is currently in the testing phase and as long as no other issues occur during this time, we hope to release it to you all sometime next week. Please be aware that this can change, but we are working hard to make this timeline and things are looking good thus far. Resolved Issues: • The crashing issue in Tartarus • Increase Font Size - Conversations/Subtitles • Muffled sound effects occur at random times for players on the PS4 • Companions dying and failing companion quests on modes other than Supernova • Unable to finish "Radio Free Monarch" • Trophy "Not the Best Choice" fails to unlock properly If you do not see your particular issue or suggestion listed above, please understand that we are continually reviewing and working on items that you are sharing with us. We will continue to work on updates and patches to see how we can make your gaming experience the best it possibly can be. To continue to report issues and share suggestions, please visit our The Outer Worlds: Technical Support forums and search to see if a fellow player has already made a thread about it. If you find a thread with your issue or suggestion, feel free to comment in that thread with any details you would like to share. 3. Ever since the announcement trailer dropped, I had been very interested in this game. It looked engrossing, beautiful, and fun to play all at once; knowing that it was being developed by Obsidian only added to my excitement. I naturally avoided most news about the game from then on, wanting to go in as unprepared as possible once the game was actually out. I started playing a couple of days after release, and I was instantly smitten by the style, the presentation, the world itself as it was being revealed, and the excellent character interactions. I played as often as I could and for hours on end. I fell in love with the world of Halcyon, and I adored its inhabitants. Even the less scrupulous ones, because of how well they are written. Interacting with the world and its people – in whichever way – was pure delight from beginning to end. It's rare that any game makes me so happy to play. As is often the case with RPG's, it's impossible for me to stop myself from doing multiple playthroughs. As I near the end of the first one, I already have some ideas on a new character to create and a different playstyle to go for. Tonight I wrapped up my third playthrough, and while I am tempted to go for a fourth one, I felt that I should stop by here and add this appreciation post. The Outer Worlds may be streamlined and not offer the deepest experience in terms of role-playing or strategy, but it is truly remarkable and wonderful in its execution. It feels very polished both in terms of gameplay and in terms of writing; for what Obsidian most likely set out to do, they truly nailed it. Thank you for creating such a great game. I really hope this isn't the end of our adventures in Halcyon. Whether it be in through expansions or sequels, I definitely want to be able to return here many times more.

  4. That's the beauty of the hub based nature of the game. It's fairly simple to add say: A new landing pad on the existing worlds. A new ship or space station appearing in the outer reaches of Halcyon A corporate fleet from another, less fortunate colony who are looking to claim part of Halcyon for themselves Fingers crossed we get something.

  6. Alright I'll bite. If you're really being genuine here and truly not trolling, then please do yourself a favor. Try playing at least ONE of the legacy 3rd gen games you've written off as "mediocre" aka Witcher, FO3, and especially Fallout New Vegas (developed by Obsidian). But NOT Fallout 4 which is 4th gen and completely different single player FPS design btw. Best yet, play FO3 and compare it to Fallout NV game play. And really, really try to play AND comple Fallout New Vegas on survival mode (hopefully this will be the PC version so you can add all the critical PC mod community bug fixes Bethesda wouldn't let Obsidian do when they forced them to release NV prematurely). Play the VANILLA version of New Vegas with ALL vanilla NV DLC. Commit yourself to an RP role. And it doesn't matter if you find yourself wanting to evolve/change your original RP PC. Just commit to the complex RP adventure you'll get from playing a NON LINEAR adventure. BEFORE trying to add any emergent game play mod content from the Nexusmods site. Now if you can discipline yourself to play a 3rd gen game, with 3rd gen graphics (with or without having to install graphic overhauls like NMCs re-textures, Project Nevada, Vurt's Flora Overhaul, Nevada Skies Weather mod, or epic scope PC mod community DLC that add scores more hours in new world space game play the likes of New California) then please return after the 70+ or so hours from your vanilla play through. And honestly share your first play through experiences here. That is the point where I'll seriously take any negative feedback on your part against the original Fallout franchise devs. Because without even having played a shallow Bethesda title, you have ZERO point of comparison for this or any game developed by Obsidian. Period. And regardless of whether you played a Fallout title or not, you would have noticed Obsidian belongs to an elite, shrinking minority of devs with high integrity in the industry to date. The other two devs that immediately come to mind are White Horse Studios (Mafia 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance), and CDPR (Witcher and CP2077). NONE of these devs agree with adding cancerous micro transactions or loot boxes into the single player game. And ALL of these devs wanted to have a PUBLIC NON EXCLUSIVE release of their game. And NOT put their fan bases through the tomf*ckery BS that is Epic Games Store. Finally, recognize that Obsidian is one of few dev studios left in the game industry to date who understand how to truly design a real RPG game. And how to implement CONSISTENT world building, franchise lore, creative story writing, PC and NPC development into every aspect of their games i.e. MQ, side quests, whatever sand box/free roam activities a player can do in the game world.

  7. I also hope there will be an expansion or DLC. This game is absolutely great! I was looking at the space map and saw there are still planets you can't access yet. I wondered if they were perhaps planned DLCs?

  8. I'm in for DLC or a sequel. I'd hope for both. DLC that's already completed to hold us over until a sequel can be worked on. Love this universe and game.

  9. A protagonist fully voiced by Nolan North. Expansive open world full of randomly generating quests. Battle Royale mode. And possibly Terry Crews TV ads. So, nothing that would make it a better game, but ones that would make it much, much easier to mass-market.

  10. Working in Austin Peay today. My last project wraps up today. No more budget and the whole TN government shuts down in two weeks. So the rest of the year becomes an exercise in looking busy. I think I might put together a study on the aquatic life in the Cold Creek/Hatchee River watershed. Translation: Maybe I can go fishing and call it work.

  11. Yes. Assassin can still stack Backstab + Assassinate with an arquebus. You just have to come close (2 meters or nearer). No problem with Smoke Veil or Shadowing Beyond: since arquebuses have no recovery you can turn invisible right after the initial shot from stealth.

  12. I'm not surprised by the game's success. Obsidian really knows how to deliver RPGs. I just hope that if there's a next installment for TOW, the devs produce a lengthier game with more content.

  13. A fulfilling play through is usually 30-40+ hours. Not to mention, the game is designed to be played over again multiple times. That said, the amount of content available is rather lacking. The content we did get is quite good, but I understand why people are disappointed. I would like to have seen more than what was released, but look on the bright side: This game has high replay value and there's still room for dlc and mods.

  14. If you play a second character slow down while not as free form or large as FNV or other open world games it is pretty dense if you take your time to explore, look for any hidden nook, and talk to who ever you can.

  15. Zoo Tycoon 2 is a great game. The best part is making the whole place a giant exhibit then trapping people in with the Animals. If you can do that in Planet Zoo, I'd consider trying it.

  17. Yes. You dont like, know how to play or know what makes up an actual rpg. Your entire post confirms that truth.

  18. I don't really get how it isn't a AAA title. I mean, I understamd the economics of AAA titles, but I am not sure what it is missing that a bigger budget would provide.

  19. Yeah this kind of bugged me too. I can look passed it, but I loved in New Vegas that going in gun drawn/holstered made a difference on how people treated you occasionally.

  20. Your companions gain a perk every five levels, so level 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30. At level 19, they should therefore have 3 perk points in total.

  23. You mean Fallout2. Completionist Fallout1 run is actually quite short. Oddly enough I replayed BGs not so long ago, and they are far shorter then I remember. I could swear they were 100 hour long games and BG1 was longer then BG2. BG1 took 43 hours, BG2 took 56:30h. Not topdown Bioware RPGs tended to be around 20-30h as well. What consistantly confuses me are people who complain the game is too short, but didn't play all of it. It's not like what's left is collecting 100 feathers. If you liked it, play more of it. Obsidian was very transparent with what the game was and how long it is. It could be longer sure. It would also need to redesign systems to support a longer game time. Hopefully that will be the sequel. Though I would take a deepr 40h long OW, rather then same depth 80h Outer Worlds.

  24. What is the sense of urgency? Everyone has been frozen for 70 years, a couple more weeks while I explore are not going to make a big difference. That is why the Bethesda storylines always bothered me. They do seem urgent. But a floating colony that has already been missing for 70 years is pretty relaxed.

  25. Whether they announce DLC for the base game or a sequel is in the works, I will be happy for more Outer Worlds. I'm in love with this universe already.

  26. I do disagree: I think Bethesda's Fallout is the "cheap knockoff". Simply because Bethesda isn't smart. They do not do smart design, they do not write smart things. They themselves stated "You can either fill a large world with cheap content or make a small game with handcrafted stuff". This was true until CD Project Red showed them a pretty large middle finger. Bethesda-games do one thing right: Large, cheap worlds. It's McDonalds, sometimes I like it, but it's just "cheap, low-quality stuff, lots of it". Nothing the Bethesda-makers so far have said or done over the years made me think "Yeah, cool! That is smart!" If you want a piece of their actual abilities to plan, design and execute a game you need only to look at Fallout 76, the writing that lead to that fiasko has on the wall for all their previous titles, just they worked as moddable (!) single player titles, so we did not mind and got our fun out of them (I played Oblivion, Skyrm, Fallout 3 and 4 and enjoyed them for what they were - but always wished they were done smarter in basically all regards). Here's the actual issue: Even though they seem to look similar and are basically the same genre, Fallout 3/4 and The Outer Worlds are *very* different game with very different goals and basic ideas. Both studios want different things and do these "fairly well" when measured against their own goals (note that neither is actually perfect; Bethesda lacks in being smart, Obsidian often has lacked in funding to actually finish a large project and make it as good as it could be (Kotor2, anyone?)). So to be honest: I take "Obsidian-Fallout" over "Bethesda-Fallout" anytime. Simply because I like "smart" better than " incredibly lots". Do you know what I hope for? An Obsidian-Game made with the development effort and money that Bethesda could afford!

  27. You're entitled to your opinion, but I *strongly* disagree. 1) Obsidian isn't known for mediocre games. They are a very successful RPG studio that has made some of the best games out there, and are widely acknowledged as such. 2) There's a *LOT* of companion interaction. No, there's no "romance", but so what? There's a cubic ****ton of interaction and comradeship. 3) You cannot do all the same stuff between those two games. You can't throw grenades in TOW, but you can't shrink people in Fallout 4. You can't enslave people in TOW, but you don't have any "dig through rat ****" quests in Fallout 4, either. Etc. etc.

  28. Yeston's new 5700 video card. Sorry everyone, Chinese release only. (I'd unironically consider buying one if it were available here and a 5700XT instead of vanilla, because I cannot look at it without smiling. Which is also why it gets posted here instead of the Junkyard)

  29. I haven't tried on Netflix but I know you can play videos at different speed on Youtube which can lead to funny results but on some of the videos I have seen uploaded seems the only way to make them watchable. I think the game is a good fit as you can rush through it if you want but if you are the type of player that tries to find every nook and cranny when many different builds you can really stretch it out.

  32. I prefer having to talk to someone to see if they have a quest. I know it has become common place in MMORPG to put some indicator above NPCs but it detracts from the old school exploration I miss from MUDS and the first generations of MMOPRG.

  34. QFT. Some people are more interested in "beating" the game instead of actually experiencing it. In other words they miss the whole point, i.e. it's the journey that matters, not the destination.

  37. You want a flawed and imperfect character but you complain that you made a mediocre character ? If you character wasn't flawed at anything, it was like perfect ? How did you manage that ? As far as I know, you can't max all skills to 100, so you most certainly had flaws and were better in some domains than others. Your example is priceless. Like, knowing how to Dodge and Block attacks has totally nothing in common. It's not like they could be part of a global knowledge known as martial arts, close combat etc. It makes perfect sense that they're linked, because it's how it works for real. Someone with basic self-defense skills will be more easily able to dodge and parry / block attacks, than someone who's never fought except with a rifle or gun. And all skills grouped together make perfect sense, because they're all part of the same domains of knowledges. You can' be a doctor without a lot of scientific knowledges, and you can't unlock a door or a chest if you don't know how to be silent and agile, and hide. I wanted to make my character a very talented speaker, but also a talented hacker, and that's how I ended. I wasn't the best shooter, nor the best Leader, nor the best melee fighter. But I just knew how to defend myself and talk my way out of many situations, avoiding fights, and hacked my way to blackmail some others. Depending on how you spend your points, each player has different options throughout the whole game, and that's what makes it so great and coherent.

  38. Obsididan and Private Division first made a deal with Epic because Epic offers them more money than other game selling platforms. After that, Microsfot bought Obsidian, and probably managed to offer a new deal to Private Division in order to get it on their store and game pass. Steam prefers to take all the money for themselves and give little to developers, and this need to change. That's why going with epic was the best move. Also, it's a way for them to be free from steam's control over the market, and this can only be good.

  39. Yeah I actually really enjoyed the skill level ups. The low level, baseline stuff would all go up but the specialization and harder checks required you to then focus those skills.

  40. These are the issues I've encountered so far: Super Scoper 2000 bug: When zoomed in, you get a blank color. Found a fix here. No aim assist when playing on PC with a controller. This makes it very hard for less experienced gamers to enjoy the game.

  41. Have emailed Private Division also; am experiencing the Radio Free Monarch quest bug where, after asking you to get her caffenoid, the only dialogue option available is to leave the conversation meaning I'm unable to progress the quest.

  42. The game can be as long or as short as you want it. I did all the main quests and all the companion quests and it was around 50 hrs. 50 hrs you say? This game is SOOO well written and the dialogue is utterly fantastic, that I didn't want to miss any of it. The companion quests are fun and varied with some heart-wrenching moments thrown in for good measure. It was abundantly clear to me the developers put an extreme amount of care and love into this game and it showed at every turn. Just my ever so humble opinion but don't pass up the opportunity to play this if you like RPG's even a little.
