Today, I had a roadblock day in Dark Souls Remastered. With the defeat of Nito today, Ihave finished all base game bosses and moved to DLC again. This time, it was Manus time again. Aand I got owned badly… needed around 20 attempts to defeat him. It was my typical scenario. First attempt getting to 10%, and then doing something clumsy, and then getting asskicked next half hour… anyway. For some reason, Manus spammed a lot more spells than in NG (is that his typical NG+ behaviour?) so whenever I was cheering, that I will defeat him, he cast two or three spells in a row, and I got destroyed. So after a hour or so, I needed psycho hygiene, so I went for a few minutes to grind for souls at Painted World, until, I had enough for two more levels in Attunement, and then I have fully upgraded Paladin’s Armor, and finally replaced Ornstein’s one, which I have used for almost 100 hours. The Paladin one is a little bit heavier, but has much bigger Physical and Magical Resistances, which came in handy against Manus. And again. First try was almost perfect, but he cast two spells in a row again Then I had to die few more times in silly situations, before he went down. The only boss missing except Gwyn is Kalameet. Which I want to see without his tail again. I have never achieved this in NG+, so this is my ultimate goal I will be most likely stuck there for few days, because of that2 points

Sands of Aura The maces and the combat style were an unusual combination. Also reminded of lollipops. The hugging thing is not a piece of equipment. After getting several of them, I noticed that they decrease the maximum health. The boss of the area Some got behind the textures. The boss of the area The fire that killed the FPS (the location is a spoiler): Got the musicians. Final bosses Endings1 point

Ive never played Borderlands but the longer I watched the trailer the more I liked it. By the ending "keep looking at me" I was quite amused.1 point

Nice rework of the biting whip, a much tougher choice now. Personally I modded the biting whip to be a + x % weapon damage as a function of your current focus. Thus, a soulblade is not required to just spam SA in order to maximize damage. Also encourages to use weapon attacks and cipher spells. I think obsidian missed the opportunity to use your focus pool more as an empowering resource, such as they did with shared nightmare.1 point

Yes you dont need Blackjacket, and for this trick (Thundercrack pistol) you can use every character. The best about that : you dont have to lock a character for the whole encounter, like for Strand of Favor the +10% give some astromical numbers after few time of weapons switch. This is a good way to try some stuff against Dorudugan, and obviously for killing him..1 point

*watches that Borderlands trailer* As a huge fan of the Borderlands 1 and 2 and a ... uh ... player of BL3 stuff, my reaction to chr. casting (all of it, not just Hart) and the oddly cheap looking cos-play look is still Edit: feels like they're going for a Guardians vibe, and a younger audience.1 point

How naughty But at least you spared us from amv music so I'll approve of it. Also using Walk Like An Egyptian as the ending credits in part 1 of Stardust Crusaders is an incredible power move.1 point

Frieren 24 While other contestants face the magical clones (or sit down crying), Frieren’s group looks for secret rooms and grimoires. Eventually they reach Denken’s party and find out about Frieren’s replica. Some thoughts here: if everyone went inside together, it would be a disaster. They would probably have to face multiple copies at the same time, including Sense’s and Frieren’s. And if they can’t handle Frieren as a group (or at least hesitated and tried to formulate a plan), imagine if the enemy was in greater numbers. The psycho girl, however, could have stopped Frieren’s copy simply looking through the keyhole. But she was busy elsewhere. Another easy way to win, which could be Fern’s idea, is to simply send a mimic to deal with Frieren’s clone. Later, one of the mages tried to determine if Frieren had any vulnerabilities. Frieren enjoyed it. Fern didn’t!1 point

^ LOL - looks like a cross between Age of Empires and the Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator. Just crazy enough I might like it. ==== Manor Lords - I'm starting to worry the city management-builder-RTS "hype" is starting to get overextended for this one (2 million wishlisted I think I saw last). That said...even tho it'll be Early Access first, I'm still also totally going "Please be good, please be good, please be good...". EDIT: also, I don't know what song plays in that battle trailer, but I love it.1 point

Well, what do you know, our lying sack of manure former chancellor was found guilty of perjury. Not that eight months conditional sentence seems like such a great blow against Kurz, however - while it stands as a terrible indictment of the political landscape of our time that this perjury trial is by far and large a minor side theater in a much larger corruption complex with Kurz and his former associates at the heart of it all - aspiring crown witness Thomas Schmid being judged credible is a major win for our federal attorneys. Sebastian Kurz already said that he wants to appeal, which can be a bad idea. A slap on the wrist sentence (8 months out of potential three years with no time served in prison) like that can blow up in the face of the convicted parties after an appeal, as these sentences are basically unofficial offers to close up cases when the judiciary has better things to do. Usually when the convicted party appeals, the federal attourneys follow suit and appeal the sentence. Well, we will see. I am still rooting for him seeing a prison from the inside, the much more interesting trial for the misappropriation of public funds is still coming.1 point

@Sarex I do think the big "outcry" re: no save on exit etc. does come from many feeling taken by surprise. It shows as a driving with at least some level of sorta free exploration survival game, not necessarily a hardcore-kinda-rogue-like rush-y style game (or whatever). I watched three reviews of the game and none of them mentioned the save system process. Supposedly later many missions do get shorter, but yeah those initial ones where many players may take an hour or two or more is the first impression. And in the demo at least, altering most settings options would also disable Achievements. Not that I would care, but anyone who does care can't change the settings then. Anyway, the dev's already responded, which is why I noted I don't think they'll change anything. Which again, is fine. Just means I won't likely get it, myself. Note: the "technical sacrifices" they refer to is probably that they didn't code the game to keep (constant) track of stuff that would be needed for a save/exit state.1 point

I watched a streamer lose all his willpower for playing the game when he completed a mission but could not escape in time and subsequently lost all the loot he gathered, needed to redo the mission from the beginning and had a broken car which he couldn't fix. He was having fun with it right up until that point. This game is either not intended for the general public, or the more likely scenario, they didn't test the difficulty curve enough. The issue is that the car is obnoxiously undriveable, which I'm almost certain is intended, and when combining that with the difficulty it's not a good formula to hook people to the game. But even all of that would not have been a deal breaker if only they made it clear what the consequences were in time, or at least made the first mission much shorter and thus reducing the consequence of failing it. edit: although I see now there are specific difficulty settings to remedy a bunch of things I mentioned.1 point

Lethal Company. I walked through a doorway and a face-hugger dropped onto my head and killed me, then I came back and immediately got eaten by a forest god right after exiting my ship, then I came back and got zapped to death by electric bees after trying to steal their beehive, then I came back and apparently didn't make enough money for the Company so they they threw me off my own ship into the dark void of space. With so much content constantly coming out and no real shared social consciousness on what's "important" to watch so that you can participate in the current zeitgeist, there's not really any pressure to immediately watch anything anyways. Really, the same issue applies to TV, video games, books, and music as well. The Teachers' Lounge (2023). Or, uh... Yeah, let's just stick with the first one. Premise as quoted from Wikipedia: "A teacher [is] tasked with finding out which of her students is responsible for a series of thefts." Normally, I'm all about backhand 'complimenting' both French and German cinema even when I kind of like something, but this was an honest to god great movie from beginning to end, certainly my film of the year for 2023 until/if ever proven elsewise. This film is like...kind of an anti-thriller, insofar that it doesn't really have much of the normal traits/tropes of a thriller (even up to and including the conclusion of the film!), but you will be stressed out watching this kindhearted teacher and her classroom of normal 12-year-olds trying to navigate difficult interpersonal conflict just as if it were a thriller.1 point

I loved both Dragonfall and Hong Kong and it was Returns that was hard for me to get through. I'm curious if HBS has tried/is trying to make a 4th Shadowrun game now that they are independent again since I doubt Microsoft would let them keep making their licensed games under Paradox. But what do I know*? *A lot but not that1 point

After some break, I was able to get back into Dark Souls Remastered, and decided to challenge Artorias again. I have found out, that Lifehunt Scythe+5 with maxed out Pyromancy Flame and Chaos Fireball and classic Fireball is a very good combination to break his buffing pose. I have much less tries this time as in NG, and Inhad also a feeling, that the arena lagged less than in first cycle, which made me avoiding his attacks much easier. After that, I have run and saved Sif in the Oolacile Dungeon, and went to challenge him right away for his alternate cutscene. This time, I was able to defeat him on first try, despite using wrong rings. The last boss today, was Dark Sun Gwyndolin. And again for alternate cutscene, as I have not defeated the Gwynevere this time. After that, I have done few more upgrades from new souls, and maxed out Fire Weapon for one more Trophy.1 point

I got a free key through Shady from the giveaway thread and felt guilty for hating the game - feeling the key was wasted on me. I am beginning to understand that I sacrificed myself and saved someone else from playing it.1 point

Also, don't forget you can always turn the video play speed up to save viewing time. Doesn't work well for everything but very talk-y videos, putting it 1.5x speed helps a lot. Or even max 2x speed if they are verryy slow talkers. That video above is also notable (to me) for probably being the first I've seen that used up the time-stamp numerical limit. The last long looking segment isn't about one single game, he just couldn't use any more time stamps. heh.1 point

I think the success of BG3 might be the more important determining factor, in the sense that Deadfire was released in 2018 and would therefore represent an "old world" (in computer-gaming terms) despite its long tail. But BG3 would now suggest that there is still a market for games like this. I am almost in complete agreement with you, the only notable exception being that I think PoE began better, storywise: the sense of foreboding in the early moments of the game was superb and not surpassed by anything that came after in either PoE or Deadfire. I also remember my first serious disappointment in PoE: when you get to the castle of that one guy, Lord Raedric I think he was, and enter the final fight, one of his guards is an "archmage". I remember being at lvl 4/5/6 at that point and thinking, how on earth am I going to survive this. Well, easily, that's how. And so my next thought was: well, "archmage" doesn't mean anything in this game. Boy was I disappointed.1 point

I really hope Obsidian looks at the significance of post release sales numbers and decides to make PoE3, I can understand choices made on initial revenue sales because thats just how future decisions on all products work But if post release sales numbers are consistent and worthwhile then an investment in PoE3 makes financial sense I know Avowed is set in the PoE world and I will definitely play it but its FP and not party based so it doesnt have the same interest as PoE31 point

For me the perfect length for informational video is between 12 and 15 minutes. Longer videos I tend to skip more often than not. For LPs, I do not mind to watch two hours videos. And yes, there is a bigger chance, that I watch 10x 10 minutes series over a week, than a single 100 minute long and yes, I ignore shorts as well. They are pest for shortening the attention span…1 point
-
Yeah...limits or not, a lot of uploaders now over-indulge themselves far too much re: video length/lack of editing. But I'd give that posted video slack since it appears to be documentary oriented/very specific-interest topic. eg, if one is really into that topic, maybe the longer the better. On the flip side - generally speaking, I dislike "shorts" almost as much. I mean I get it, some silly/ent. content works fine with that but I wish TikTok hadn't made it such a dominant form so now YT keeps pushing it to compete. That's not what I go to YT for.1 point

There was some talk a few weeks back of PoE2 having a very long tail sales wise, and PoE 3 being a possibility again because of it- and because of BG3's success. (PoE2 was far superior to 1 in every respect, imo)1 point

At the time I had a sense that the game suffered a lot of criticism on release and didn't sell as well as expected. That may be why we didn't see a sequel. However, the responses seem better these days so perhaps there will be growing nostalgia?1 point

I found this tiny creature pet. It was so cute/hilarious, not so much in looks but in the miniature keystone-cop running to keep up with me. I loved it. Then I forgot about it for a little while. Finally summoned/pulled it out again and...apparently it grew up. Which is cool, but it's not cute/funny anymore. The game itself tells you straight up. Still, hey, don't tell me what I can/can't do. Only about 18,446,744,073,709,551,423 to go! I got this! Bubble planets are cool to wander around in. It's such a "zen" game, if you want it to be.1 point

So what's your opinion on trees full of hanging corpses and the ability to perform human sacrifice in a game kids could play? I agree, it's not for nothing that this game has a Mature ESRB rating. The warning is there, if kids <17 are playing this game, that responsibility lies with their parents/guardian - in no way is obsidian responsible for this.1 point

Paladin and Priest subclasses contain PaladinOrder and Deity components that determine favoured and opposed dispositions. Is there a way to bind dispositions from subclasses to abilities that are chosen during character creation similar to Ranger's pets?0 points

Well Kalameet is even bigger roadbloack than Manus. I was able to get his tail in few attempts, but I have very hard time to get him under 50% of HP in NG+. The armor upgrade, which I’ve done for Manus, does not help much. I think I will have to grind 2-4 more levels0 points
