It actually might be true. I have found this. And yes someone speaking Russian better than me (elementary school level ) would be very helpful if he could to translate for us4 points

Oh, see, I was of the complete opposite bent. Going into it, I didn't know it was going to be so ludicrously British, or in fact even British at all, and there is something about the British style of very seriously acting out the most patently absurd satire that appeals to my senses in a way that attempts by most others really just can't quite capture for me. It's no doubt due to my somewhat greater than average childhood exposure of British television/cinema and literature - thank you very much, mother. At least she didn't curse me with any kind of appreciation for British music as well, that would've been a step too far. That makes it twice Kubrick has surprised me, what with this and The Shining. I liked this more than The Shining, but I truly expected to loathe The Shining going into it, so coming out of it with any kind of positive impression has to be considered a win.3 points

Are you familiar with the story of the lizards? There is a particularly silly conspiracy theory according to which the Earth is ruled by evil lizards. One such conspiracy theorist decided to expose this horrible cabal. After a thorough research on the topic, he concluded that the lizards were going to convene at a certain hotel somewhere. So, he went there on the appointed hour, prepared to show the world. Of course, there were no lizards there, not even a hint of them. His conclusion? "They knew I was coming. So they went elsewhere." I'm not commenting on the characters you mention, but the fact is that when you have a preset view, you can always fit the reality to it, instead of modifying your view according to what reality is. I think we are, in general, quite unclear about the manifold reasons as to why this happens (my understanding is that it's more a question of education than intelligence as such, but neither of those alone explains very much). It is very, very unfortunate and causes an awful lot of suffering.3 points

I don't, really hate it. However, my mom uses it in http://www.simplycaribbean.net/the-amazing-trinidadian-pelau/?v=920f83e594a1 I enjoy the Trini propaganda on that page3 points

The dilemma of the Russian TV host, very neatly captured. Caveat: I do not speak Russian, so if the subtitles are a joke, do tell me. (Reading up on the history of various totalitarian regimes. It's interesting to note how the Soviet Union differed from the others. For instance, in fascist Italy or Nazi Germany, as awful as they were, you could, as an ethnic native of those countries, be fairly certain of political and even personal safety if you chose to support the ruling ideology. But in the Soviet Union, nothing provided safety for quite a long time. The knock on the door could come at any time, for anyone, for any reason at all, and the people killed by their own numbered in the millions. This must have left huge, huge scars on the population -- ones that haven't been dealt with.)3 points

Not sure about the batteries just yet because the performance doesn't seem like it's worth the cost But now that my wife also wants to go electric with her next car and our energy company is raising prices and implementing a time of use system it's making me want to jump to solar before some rebates and credits expire2 points

all you need to do is to get that cloak that converts fire damage to health restored when you have a wound (Rekvu's?). Easy-peasy, now you only need to worry about tanking Dorudugan's direct hits! (only helps one person if you're playing with a party though) yeah i agree. this thread is pretty old, but in a slightly more recent thread I discovered that having a wizard who can cast illusion magic is basically great tech for a less cheesy approach to the fight. get weyc's wand, because when soulbound to a wizard and maxed out, you get 100% miss to graze conversion on empowered attacks. open up a fight with an empowered arkemyr's wondrous torment (better than miasma due to higher base duration), then follow up with normal castings to refresh the debuff duration. with resource recurrence on that wizard (if brilliant is too cheesy for your tastes, just leave the wizard on auto-attack and have a troubadour doing the tier 9 invocation to restore 1 class resource, should recur fast enough to do the same thing), i feel like many other possible strategies against dorudugan become easier/have greater margins for error because going from 35 to 25 resolve does wonders for debuff durations due to how resolve normally has increasing returns. (edit: i vaguely remember some more ways to passively debuff resolve that'll stack with wondrous torment, but don't remember the specifics. edit 2: don't forget club modal! with only 25 resolve, the will debuff on a mod/high character lasts a decent chunk of time, for extra will-weak dorudugan) of course, you can just summon a dragon and have it face tank dorudugan while you plink away at it with ranged weapons. that chanter dragon is a megaboss wonder2 points

Yes. They blew up all critical infrastructure in the city. Kherson is now without power and water. And on Russian telegrams, there are VDV guys complaining, that their last order, they received was to wear civilian clothes, and chose wherever they will go. All that, after the Antonovski Bridge was blown up. on the other hand:2 points

A Clockwork Orange (1971). Well, I put off watching it for a very long time, but I finally did. It is a marvellously constructed film, with the way all of it thematically loops back in on itself to tie everything together so perfectly. Thanks to that, it goes from being a film I probably should've rightfully hated (if it were handled by a lesser filmmaker) to a film that I did end up enjoying, which I did not expect.2 points

Nah, that's just basic "There is a lot of us". Russians do have a morbidly hilarious saying regarding war losses, something like "No big deal, broads (pejorative бабы) will birth out some more".2 points
-
Zelenskiy announced in the interview to CNN that the losses are approximately 1:10 According to US General Milley, the WIA/KIA on RU side is 100k. and you do not need to be amazed by that number. Soviet Union/Russia has always had sayin. “Nas mnogo.” (There is many of us). Just look at waht is going on around Bakhmut in last 6 months https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2022/11/10/7375844/ Edit: Antonovsky Bridge was blown up by Russia. Looks like 20k Russians which are according to estimates still in Kherson Oblast, will be having very bad weekend trying to fulfill the evacuation orders. But I am sure that Putin has no issue to make this sacrifice.2 points

I think this attitude stems from a profound disappointment coupled with ignorance. Disappointment in one's own country: it is true that many things are handled awfully poorly in the US. There is no universal health care. Education can be terrible. The federal government is not run particularly well. Inequalty is rife. Etc. All of this can cause disillusionment and cynicism, which is understandable but not very helpful. When you're already disillusioned and cynical, and you don't know enough about Russia, or Saudi Arabia or some country like that, you can start thinking that "they're all the same". But they're not. Just study the very recent history of those countries. I wouldn't want to live in the US. But given a choice between Russia and the US, I mean, it's not even a question that you need to think about.2 points

Regarding those "Damned if I do, damned if I don't" posts -- subtitles are correct, but you gotta understand that there is no rule of law in russia, law's just a tool of ruling cleptocracy's. Nevzorov once dug up some article that makes that old baboon a criminal for starting the war, and so what? So if someone wants to give you 10 years for peaceful protest, they will find a way, and if you're in top caste and killed a five year old on the crosswalk while driving drunk, you can sue his parents for damage to your car and win the case too.2 points

on a more serious note. Yes, of course they were retreating. Because, their losses caused on them by UA Army, became unsustainable. And Ukraine made everything to minimize it loses by not rushing. Their biggest loses were during the breach near Popasna and battle for Sieverodonetsk and Lysychansk. Current numbers in Kherson, based on Ukrainian MoD is 1 KIA/WIA UA against 7-8 KIA/WIA RU. So all of their retreat is just a consequence of chain of ****ups since february 24th. Here is a short summary of the situation from a Russian soldier fighting in Kherson Oboast, which became pretty famous net personality in Russia. He predicts, that if Russia will handle the operation same way as in Kherson, they will lose Crimea as well2 points

am gonna guess trump is lying, 'cause if is true he sent doj resources to interfere with a state election, then he just admitted to crime. somehow having this go complete unnoticed in 2018 is unlikely, so am gonna suggest trump reflexive falsehood is what is happening with this admission, but it would be big news if true. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Brutal Cleave is not melee. The small shield Shimmer Scale can be good in this fight, with the bonus def to fire! For me the principal difficulty with Doru is his high resolve. With every bosses, I like to find the best way (and the best party/equimpment) to control them (like puppets) so it is important to lower their defenses. My best with him is to use many skelies / Frostfall tactic when he is paralysed / downed. At this point, his health pool doest really matter anymore, when the survivability is turned to "infinite", even if the fight last for 1h, for Dorudugan it is like all the damages are done in one instant (relativity). So I estimate I win the fight when I kill enought skellies with Frostfall-set to make him unable to take any action for sure (10 or 15 skellies with summoning, then it is safe, so periodic (3 or 6s) many live Frostfall kill is enought for the rest of the fight).1 point

And justifiably so. I love it when people (typically Westerners living peaceful lives within their own very secure borders) casually talk of other people giving up their land, something they themselves would NEVER ever under any circumstances say about their own land.1 point

Of course we know how to be very serious about absurd satire. How do you think we ended up with that Empire in the first place?1 point

I could have done with a little less of the nadsat slang that almost certainly worked better in the book that I did not read (yet?), but otherwise, indeed, Kubrick certainly knew his craft, even though by some accounts (like Jack Nicholson) he was a pain in the neck to work with.1 point

Yes, I forgot about Wall of Draining... But if I remember well it's more tedious because you have to spawn a Fire Blight before the fight...1 point

Scorched-earth policy and wholesale killing of their own (in the sense of just letting them die when that is clearly what is going to happen) are staples of Russian warfare. I wonder if the Russian "Nas mnogo" is an intentional Biblical reference, to Mark 5:9. If so, it's very odd. I don't speak Russian and my Greek is poor, so I can't really comment on this with any expertise.1 point

To dredge up a page or so old conversation I can't be bothered finding and quoting, when I saw the comment about the USA not being allowed to have more than two parties I assumed it was referring not to there being some law against other parties existing, but about how the voting system and whatever else effectively prevents them from ever gaining any support. The reply where someone agreed and also mentioned being a member of the libertarian party seemed like it could only possibly be confirmation of that interpretation, because how could you possibly claim membership of a party that you agree has been legally prevented from existing. Was surprised to then see the multiple paragraphs that I did not read all of that seemed to be talking about how ACTUALLY, there's no law about there being more than two parties.1 point

A troubadour with Brisk Recitation activated, chanting Many Lives Pass By... is enough to keep Dorudugan busy (a monk summoning the Dichotomous Soul works too but is more tedious). After that, if you pick the right buffs/equipment and ranged weapons (Essence Interrupter, Eccea's Arcane Blaster, Fleetbreaker, Amaliorra,...), Dorudugan will go down pretty fast with minimal micro and without any cheese. And, contrary to the common belief, it's also possible to tank Dorudugan at melee with some builds.1 point

this definitely also works, but has also definitely crashed my computer a couple times. at least this approach is fast enough that it's not as big a deal if the game crashes1 point

Have you by any chance missed out how fast they forced out Russia out of Kharkiv, while they were to busy reinforcing Kherson? And are you even aware, that Ukraine liberated already more than 50% of the land, which were occupied by Russia after 24th of February? And that was even before the announcement of goodwill gesture in Kherson… Probably not, else you would make more effort to belittle the Ukrainian successes Does this mean Ukraine will win this conflict? No. Does it means that Russian invasion is one big catastrophe, which is starting to have big political impact at home? Yes.1 point

I have the same problem (since 1.0 release) on all saves made before the release. On saves made after the release, the location is displayed correctly (but I didn’t go far in the story, I just ran a little to check).1 point

Just wanted to report that I also experience the same problem; but specifically I noticed the game saves location became Unknown specifically after I give the SuperChip in the Hedge Lab to Burg.L. While I was traversing the Hedge Lab prior to getting the SuperChip this wasn't happening yet.1 point
