There was a single Mega Lotto winner in IL, and it wasnt me. One of my buddies was going to the store to buy tickets so I gave him $4 to pick me up two ticket and not a single number was right on either ticket. On the bright side, I promised him 10% if one of my tickets won, so I dont have to cut him a check for ~75M.2 points

My mother always broiled (vs. baking) salmon steaks, using your typical broiler pan a few inches below the heating element. I love the result of such and it's the only way I'll indoor-kitchen cook a steak/chops. I don't even like (flat surface) pan-fried/seared. I also liked broiling the last 5-10 minutes of any "pizza things" vs. only baking them the whole time. The for-smaller-items broiler function of a countertop toaster-oven is the main reason I have one of those too - I don't care about perfect toast (or any toast, these days). And actually, I'm one of those that likes "toast" to be mostly hot bread with butter, I don't like it all crusty/browned. I kinda gave up on general cooking tho, after trying and failing to find a larger variety in low-carb stuff that I would both like and doesn't bother my digestive system (and isn't an every-day hassle to make). I mostly just use a frying pan to make eggs, or some shredded-bit o' meat+extra vegie mix to go into the 50000000 large bowls of "spring mix" salad I eat. >.> Hubby does more cooking then me now, since he doesn't want to live on a hamster diet.2 points

Problem is, new GTA gameplay will just be the exact same thing we have seen for 20 years now. Hell even RDR2 has GTA-style mission flow .... So the only thing that a new GTA would have for it would be the bits of story. Rest is just going to be the same pew-pew missions as always.2 points

Working on my salmon technique... In the past, I would just shove the fish in the oven and bake it (in an oven proof bowl). But it gets much better if seared on a pan first and then stick the fish, with the pan and everything, in the oven. Now I just need to learn that the pan handle is hot when taking the pan out of the oven (like 220C hot)2 points

I have nothing against Pennsylvania, especially the western half of the state, there are some lovely mountains in that region. That said, I have grown fond of the warmer weather of the south and have zero intention to move back north. I'll accept the price of more limited availability of Polish food to never shovel snow again. Anyway, pyzy attempt#2: Boiled & mashed (russet) potatoes: Finely grated raw potatoes with liquid squeezed out, plus egg: Potato flour: Bacon: The finished product: Still not the prettiest pyzy I've ever seen, but much less ugly than last time. More importantly, even more delicious. The next step is pyzy z mięsem (meat filled).2 points

Haha! No, not yet, I've got him in numbers, easily, but that damn pike is going to be hard to beat I for some reason, probably a difference in how we bait the hook with the worms, keep getting many fishies, quickly, but I don't get any of the big ones. Well, if the Serbs act up and NATO, sorry, KFOR steps in a bombs them into submission, they are an enemy of the West. You'll cheer that on. Also, the Ukrainian MP above called them Putin's trojan horse, after all, and their politicians' word is gospel Definitely not in anyone's interest to have shooting erupt there, just a distraction from Ukraine and not like they need another war for domestic distraction or something.1 point

i'm still trying to carve out some time to more properly put it through its paces, but a few quick thoughts blunderbuss doesn't appear to be in the initial set of superb gear? i double and triple checked but i don't think i saw one what about turning down the initial gold and the per-match gold rewards? to make purchasing stuff a bit more strategic decision what do you think about splitting up the accessories between different merchants? there's just so many, it feels like it takes a while to find items to buy through the long list and if they were subdivided somehow that'd help. simlar thing with weapons - maybe split 1h and 2h weapons betwen different merchants to make it easier to find through them? though i had less problem here because it feels like there are a lot fewer weapons to go through what about a few non-unique items? i was trying to find gloves of accuracy, for example. i ended up settling for the unique gloves of the dungeon warden, but that wouldn't suffice if i wanted more than one character with them. same thing with other non-unique accessories.1 point

am also a fan o' brisket, but am also cheap and brisket has become scary expensive o' late, so we found an alternative. we do not smoke meat too often, but when we do we got the little chief. as an alternative to brisket we use a 4-5lb chunk o' chuck at least 4" thick with as much intermuscular connective tissue as we can find and a fair amount o' internal fat. trim off all the external fat. might be difficult to find such thick cuts o' chuck w/o speaking to your butcher and requesting. regardless, we cook virtual the same way we would brisket with low and slow smoke for hours ('bout 5-6 depending on how long it takes to reach right internal temp o' 'bout 145F.), then wrap in foil (tight) for an additional +3 three hours in a regular oven at 225F. goal is to get to almost fall apart tender, but not quite. is art and not science so is no specific time or internal temp which is gonna enlighten you as to when is actual done. regardless, once we hit almost fork tender, we remove meat from foil and then put back in the oven for another twenty minutes so the surface crust gets dry and sets up a bit. take outta the oven and tent for another twenty minutes before slicing. takes a long time to cook not-brisket this way, but is almost complete hands-off for +90% o' total time. we didn't mention what kinda chips we use for smoke 'cause everybody has their own preference and nobody is right. only seasoning is dalmatian-- salt and pepper. we go heavy on the salt. is 4" cuts, so you want extreme salt and is best to let sit in fridge overnight after seasoning. am too cheap to do brisket nowadays particular when the chuck turns out so great. HA! Good Fun!1 point

the thing is I'm not from Russia, so something weird is going on, my guess is GOG is using a "carpet bomb" approach to blocking IP-address ranges, and my IP is within that range even though territorially I'm right next to Poland.1 point

Last nignt I fried some halibut in olive oil and butter then added some lime juice to make the butter into a sauce. Very good with the rice and steamed vegetables I served it with. While I am a brisket man for sure, if they have beef ribs available I have to get them. And a smoked link of boudin or some kind of cheese sausage is nice. I usually go hot for the sides with macaroni and cheese (if it's good, not the instant stuff) and some green beans being the most optimal. Now I'm hungry lmao.1 point

Yeah, doesn't really sound like a show I'd appreciate unless the characters magically grab me without actually making the effort to do so (which...is not impossible, but is definitely pretty rare). I'm also not known for caring about mystery stuff for the mystery in of itself (now as a vehicle to propel characters forward a la Steven Universe, heck yes...but otherwise, not really), . I'll try an episode, but if I don't take a liking to it within that, I'm not gonna sweat it. Doesn't sound nearly as horrific as the U.S. Sailor Moon pilot - how unfortunate. American TV animation was almost as skilled and detailed as Japan in the 90s.1 point

I'd rather play a boring or bad videogame than get rusty nails in my scrotum. So BG2 > IWD2 > BG1 > PST > IWD. I haven't played any of them in years and probably won't anytime soon though. I haven't really played anything in a while and went into the depths of my steam library and am going to install Expeditions: Viking. I remember liking the first game but never getting around to this.1 point

Made in Abyss, season 1. Well, finished the part that's currently on Netflix here, which is the 13 episodes of the first season. The last episode is twice as long, so technically it has the runtime of a 14 episode show with 25 minute episodes. Not that it changes much. The pacing is all over the place, which is less of an issue than it might seem. Over the course of the first season, Reg's penis is talked about on three separate occasions. Once after Riko examines him, once after a grown up looks at it in curiosity and once more when Riko and Reg go skinny dipping in the Abyss, which has a very obvious consequence that Riko comments on by basically asking him: "What's going on with your willy?" Riko, on the other hand, hangs naked from the ceiling, gets undressed after some distress because Reg wants to 'check' her for any injuries, gets undressed after a serious injury, and of course while bathing (where she can't do it herself due to the aforementioned injury). She also, on three separate occasions, soils herself. While it does make sense that she would do that under extreme duress (once unconscious while poisoned, once while in terrible pain), the reason why it was necessary to comment and in one case show it is not entirely within the grasp of my understanding. The third one was an 'accident' at night because she was afraid to go to the loo. Well, all in all, it could have been worse, I suppose. Riko is, at least according to the subtitles, 12 years old, and the nudity doesn't carry funny undertones or is sexually charged, skinny dipping commentary aside, perhaps. As far as random cruelty against children goes, we have the naked hanging from the ceiling punishment that is not only popular in the orphanage, and the group of people who research and explore the Abyss who randomly scoop up unwanted children from all over the world to use them in disfiguring to lethal experiments. Because why not. That said, back to the pacing. Soft spoilers from here on out - but they should be safe for @Bartimaeus and his patented spoiler reading technique. Now that all reads rather negatively, and the question then becomes, why binge it? Because, surprisingly, while the emotional part of the series did not work for me at all, the mystery part does. Like I alwas maintain, give me a decent mystery to look at, and I'm game. The Abyss serves that function wonderfully, and the exploration part of the series is really nice. It is also, ah, a prelude to a disappointing ending, I suppose, if such an ending comes. Can't recall a decent mystery series where the mystery didn't end up being a letdown, or unexplained. But never mind that, the second season is only ongoing, and who knows if it even finishes the storyline. At the risk of sounding like @Bartimaeus after watching Madoka, if you want me to care about the abject terror that characters experience, make me care about them first. With the characters not really working for my Darth Vader, I suppose, they're not really going to work for @Bartimaeus' Palpatine. I do forgive much more easily, after all.1 point

The lethargic-misshapen-bird has been grounded! Other than this and the "DLC installed" message boxes, another change I've made to better integrate the DLCs is to change the global script for Vatnir's missive to prevents it arriving during The Steward's ship-supply briefing: There is now a "IsConversationPlaying" conditional on the missive, and a "CallGlobalScriptAfterTimePasses" that this script again fires after a few in game hours. That way it'll arrive a few hours after the player has begun sailing towards Port Marje. While this solution feels better to me and the timing is such that the letter will arrive several before Furrante comes boards, it stills feel a bit awkward to have both irruptions happen in such close succession. The difficulty of Beast of Winter is also not really intended for a Watcher who is fresh off Port Maje island, so I'm wondering if there might be someway to delay it's arrival further so that it will arrive later into the game? Edit: Nevermind, it seems a "IsLevel" conditional can be put on the "DeliverMissive" script to ensure that Vatnir will only contact the player character once they've reached the recommended level.1 point

Weirdly, I tend to like most things. I've only ever walked out of one film, for example (and ut wasnt an Alien film). I've seen a lot of truly terrible z grade films and had a blast. I've enjoyed art films, international films and all sorts of other films. I think, EVENT HIRIZON, MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION, and the AVP films are terrible films but I was mostly entertained by them, often despite themselves. Heck I watched the original Street Fighter video game live action adaption last week for the first time in a decade, the one with Raul Julia who was actually fantastic as a live action cartoon villain, and found it to be quite amusing even if it's a poor adaption of the source material and a compromised narrative taken on its own terms. Ultimately the worst thing a movie, book or TV show can be is boring.1 point

Good character writing combined with good casting and acting can overcome many faults. If I'm not invested in a character(s) and/or the story my mind will automatically switch over to picking apart any and every plot hole in a narrative. Conversely, if I'm invested in a story and/or the characters, I will automatically forgive/overlook story inconsistencies. Extremely rarely you get a movie where the cinematography, narrative, casting, and performances are all so on point that there is nary a grievance to be had in ANY aspect of the production, even were you specifically looking to pick a nit. Alas, movies like Rashomon only come around once or twice a generation.1 point

I've deleted this several times as I've tried to articulate my thoughts. For me I think the casts' performances are one of the most important things in a film, but I don't have to like them in order to enjoy it. I mean in Blue Velvet, which I liked enough to do a new name and avi for after rewatching it some months back, the characters are mostly morally repugnant to me. Yet I think Dennis Hopper does an utterly fantastic job as Frank Booth, as does Kale, Isabella Rossellini, Laura Dern, and Harry Dean Stanton as their characters to create a fascinating narrative. Combined with the sound and surreal combined with ordinary setting, it's close to a perfect movie for me. Now that I type this out, I think I honestly couldn't articulate what makes a movie great for me beyond saying what gripped me about an individual film. I guess I could come up with a chart or something, but I don't have the time or inclination for that. I have been considering getting a Letterboxd, maybe that will help me sort my thoughts.1 point

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to appreciate Icewind Dale. The game is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical combat mechanics most of the gameplay will go over a typical player's head. There's also David Ogden Stiers' nihilistic narration, which is deftly woven into the plot progression - his character's philosophy draws heavily from literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the gameplay, to realize that it's not just combat- it says something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Icewind Dale truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, having giant skeletons that explode into snowballs which is itself a cryptic reference to the snowball fight in Witcher 3 The Wild Hunt I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Black Isle's genius unfolds itself on their monitors. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Yxunomei tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. (Funnily enough on pure gameplay I 100% agree with HoonDing on order, though I'd probably put the self mutilation before BG1 and have an entire lower category for SCS)1 point

Xenonauts 2 - The original Xenonauts was a fantastic game. Xenonauts 2 improves on it in almost every way. The maps are amazing, the story is more developed, and it looks great. Unfortunately it is taking forever to release, and the beta I'm playing is still pretty buggy, but someday this will be my jam. Still, I enjoyed playing a few missions recently. One went terribly sideways in the dark and I lost all but 3 of my soldiers before trying to breach a UFO. Then my soldiers ended up relying on handguns in the tight quarters of the ship, and things went even worse. It was a glorious loss. I won another mission in a jungle by just blowing up a lot of bushes and trees. Is there an alien in those bushes? The minigun will find out!1 point

After finishing the cat game Stray, I've spent idle time watching other people play Stray, which is rather fun, their reactions. Apparently Jackson Galaxy (that "cat whisperer" guy) played the intro as a YT video and people loved it so much (it was great/funny, I saw it) that he's right this minute live streaming some more of the game via YouTube. the hilarious thing is he's so not a gamer, they're basically guiding him thru it at points. It's fun to watch him struggle thru it (to quote him, "probably doing something stupid (streaming)"). Also, cat commentary. I dunno if he's gonna stream very long but I hope it's a couple hours. *settles in*1 point

Yup, that's where it was! Thanks! Ran a search for mentions of the note's GUID in the level and .assets files using Notepad++, which turned up a single mention in "level1123". Some pretty involved digging into this file with UBE indicates that the script is tied to a trigger object called "LAX03_Trigger_Pet_Smasher_Missive". From what's readable in Notepad, I'm guessing that when the player sails into the trigger box the script is fired. Which then hurls the poor bird at the ship, and finally disables the trigger box. So it should just be a simple matter of finding the GUID for this object and then disabling it with a scripthook!1 point

Through the Ashes It got a lot easier once I properly equipped my characters, especially the tank. In the last map I eventually stopped using potions and scrolls. And I fought against everyone I could find. I did play on normal, though. I would try it again with a different approach and on a harder difficulty, but I decided to start the main campaign. I'm gonna play as a metal oread cleric of Iomedae. I disabled GOG updates and I have the installer for the current version on backup, so the EE shouldn't be a problem. Edit: I was trying to avoid resting, not sure what the consequences were. Also, I ended with a significant amount of money. I could probably have bought better items and plenty of healing potions.0 points
