i did some testing to confirm some of my suspicions. here's what i've found: ranged movement recovery penalty only applies while moving (correction of earlier thing i said) ranged movement recovery penalty is +100% recovery time shot on the run does benefit from inversions and will completely cancel the recovery penalty suffered while moving (edit: so, makes no difference whether you stand still or move as a ranger with this. could be pretty handy for kiting) reload time is not affected by ranged movement-recovery penalty, instead it's paused your reload progress is saved if you interrupt it, so if you run around for a while, your remaining reload time should pick up back from where it left off however, in normal circumstances it appears there is a minimum reload time of what appears to be ~2.5s for most weapons, but arquebus appears to have a slightly faster minimum reload time of ~2s. so, as i mentioned in an earlier post, if you perpetually interrupt your reload, then you'll never be able to fire again since the animation needs to fully complete. however with firearms, there's a moment during the reload animation when you **** the gun (you can hear a very slight 'click' when this happens) and if you interrupt the reload at this point and then resume attack you bypass the entirety of the reload time (including the remainder of the reload time that you should've seen) and go straight to attack. [edit: lol erroneous forum censorship strikes again! "when you c.o.c.k the gun"] if Deadfire was somehow more of a twitch-y game like DotA or a fighting game, this means there's actually a "reload cancel" optimization you could do. in practice, i don't think this is worth the micromanagement since it's like tenths of a second in savings which, while possibly a substantial % increase, is extremely annoying to keep track of over an entire fight. i say "normal circumstances" b.c. if your natural reload time is shorter than the minimum reload time, then it uses your natural reload time (possible with dual-wielding, high dex, pistol modal) i know there's a further absolute minimum reload time (it's why one of the enchantments on a gun that clears recovery doesn't work) but with some simple testing with a console i wasn't able to find what that was (i got down to 1.5s and still obeyed the 1.5s recovery time instead of being capped)2 points

Pretty simple, you would just relocate a chest/basket to a Zipline and it would attach, maybe even have a option where it doesn't move until you send it so you can load stuff into the container before sending it off. I think this would be an amazing thing for people who like to go on long gathering sessions across the map or maybe want to make a new base but don't want to deal with the relocation of their chests. I mean if a player puts the work in to have Ziplines going all over the map, maybe we should be able to do more and have ways to maybe just send items over long distances like with the stems. This could even be really helpful if you have a multiplayer world and your friend needs food or repair ingredients for their stuff but are all the way across the map, instead of just heading home their friend could just send over stuff and they can continue on with whatever they need to do across the map2 points

I would not bet on the political instability. Do not mind the clickbatey headline, but this guy sheds a little bit of light, on how the siloviks view the current situation, and I bet, that some of them are already in diplomatic talks with the west...2 points

Hmm, loads of job openings for that. But as usual, no Senior Sarcasm or Lead Forkcat Designer positions.2 points

Adding some kind of system to make it so you can sort items based off of item tier as well as where or what it comes from so boxes arent just a mess. Also maybe adding like a tier 3 item to expand your inventory size2 points

The End of Texhnolyzelion: Uh...this sure went somewhere. So I'm gonna need a multi-page majestic plot and thematic analysis of this one, stat. One thing I really appreciate about shorter shows is that...er, well, they're short. Okay, so that's not exactly groundbreaking news, but it's doubly true for dark, violent, and/or difficult to follow shows like this where you, quite frankly, would get exhausted by the show over time. I'm sure that Breaking Bad is an excellent show with many objectively good qualities, but it's literally 60 hours long - about thirty long movies worth. That's a really long time to be wallowing in gritty violence and nihilistic misery, and it tends to make it so I lose interest in them because I just don't want to do that at such a ridiculous length. 60 hours of Sailor Moon I can do, 60 hours of Breaking Bad I cannot. Anyways, that's all to say that I can appreciate it when a show like Texhnolyze clocks in at like 6 to 8 hours instead - it makes all the difference in the world for me being able to complete it. Spy x Family: I almost want to try it out myself, and then I remember that I'm me.1 point

I have honestly no idea what to make of Spy x Family. That looks both adorable and horrifying.1 point

Yeah. When I said I'd be a harsh editor for him, one of the things I alluded to was that I'd cut down his literary elephantiasis. Very few of his long works really justify their size (Under the Dome does, and IT does for the most part, but stuff like The Stand certainly does not). Some of the short stuff is very good indeed. Jerusalem's Lot, for instance, is just great -- a marvelous little Cthulhu story from King. Funnily enough, it's clearly set in a different fictional universe from his novel 'Salem's Lot (which is also excellent).1 point

Dunno, maybe I should give Mooncrash another chance, but when I tried it the gameplay loop didn't hook me and there seemed to be very little story there to keep me going.1 point

We must remember the long history of this. You can ask Hungary (1956), Prague (1968) or Afganistan (1979?) what it was like to receive "help" from the Soviet Union. Few things are as lethal as Russian "help". At the moment, if you ask Russia, there is no war in Ukraine. And so on.1 point

Ruble is not freely traded currently so it can't crash, when companies and countries are forced to buy it to do trade with Russia/Russian companies. But Russian central bank can keep Ruble from crashing, but it has quite lot economic effects, which is why Russian central bank predicts that Russian GDP will decrease 10% this year, and predicts that decrease will continue for several years EDIT: Also inflation in Russia is high, so ruble is losing it value even though its apparent value is kept same. Rubles apparent value against other currencies don't help Russian, because, there are strict limits how much foreign currencies people/companies can buy and many can't do any foreign purchases because of sanctions that block credit cards and switft payments from Russia to other countries.1 point

The currency of a country is not the economy or reality of the strength of the economy. Its a factor in the economy and several factors influence the strength of currency but primarily selling and buying and the amount of that currency in circulation. Russia use to be the 10/11 strongest economy in the world with close to $700 billion dollars in foreign reserve, an actively traded stock exchange and a future as an energy provider to the likes of the EU. This has changed due to Putins War and much of this has been eroded but this erosion takes times and its impossible for any sanctions to have a real impact in less 9-12 months. Sanctions dont work like that when it comes to the economic impact But the biggest problem Russia is going to face is the disinvestment in its economy and its long-term economic growth. And once the West ends its dependency on Russian energy this is only going worse Other countries outside of Western countries can invest in Russia but you will find very few global Western companies and their partners ever investing in Russia going forward until Putin and Russia can be trusted again But to restore this trust its going to take years. But if you interested in the real impact of sanctions on the Russian economy dont worry about the strength of the Ruble but follow the Russian economic quarter data. That's how countries measure economic growth and decline Here is a link that highlights this and remember we are still not seeing the actual first quarter results but the Russian economy is expected to contract by 8-12% https://www.reuters.com/business/russias-gdp-decline-could-hit-124-this-year-economy-ministry-document-shows-2022-04-27/1 point

Again, no one has suggested war guilt is ever going to be admitted, so I don't know why you're going on about that. Withdrawal can be described as "victory". Financial reparations can be explained in any number of ways. As for the limits to what can be spun: there are limits but they are pretty out there. Spinning that the atrocities in Bucha either didn't happen or were staged or were committed by the Ukrainian nazis was easy, there has been no great opposition to that. Thus, spinning that the mission has been accomplished and Russia has won sounds perfectly reasonable to me. It is going to be accepted, I don't think there's any question about this. Even if the facts are that Russia retreats in defeat after extraordinarily big losses to its military. Of course we don't know if Russia is going to lose and retreat, but should that happen, it's easy to spin it as a resounding victory. Alternate realities are a reality. Look at North Korea: that's the direction Russia is heading. It's not there yet, but that's the way it's going. No opposition, no political parties deserving the title, no proper press, etc.1 point

But you misread Snyder. Putin has an out even if he doesn't admit defeat. Of course he will never admit defeat. He will claim victory even if he loses. The press will be behind him, as it is now. Anyone who stands against that will be in trouble. And yes, there is the possibility of the political system becoming unstable. But that possibility is there already, right now.1 point

@kanisathamay be interested in a 17-point thread by Timothy Snyder on the question of giving Putin an "out". Snyder's point is that Putin always has it, as he is a dictator. As far as "changing the subject" (quoting Snyder) is concerned, we have a very recent example of this. The president of Finland had a telephone conversation with Putin. Putin argued that Russia has to "liberate" the east of Ukraine from the nazis. President Niinistö countered by saying that what about Kyiv, then, why was Kyiv attacked, it has nothing to do with the east of Ukraine. The journalists gathered around Niinistö were very keen to hear how Putin responded to this. "He said nothing. Nothing at all", Niinistö told them. "And then he changed the subject."1 point

With the help of a bunch of friends got to a new area in Elden Ring, and honestly, just riding around gathering stuff that just lies around makes the character so much more powerful, not sure why they locked this loot behind a story wall One of the friends is pictured here, but behind her is the real reason why I'm here: that samurai armor Yoink! And the other friend, hopefully we'll have many great adventures together1 point

No I'm just adjusting contrast and exposure in the game's photo mode. I'm not even running raytracing in those shots, since anything past 4K the RT tanks the game bad (in this gen at least) I'm liking imgur so far, but it's limitation is that screenshots must be under 5mb to get the full resolution, otherwise it shrinks the shots down to just 5K.1 point

I know its mostly supposed to be funny, but to be that guy... The original development for SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU? was inspired by THE ARCHIES cartoon (where Archie, Reggie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and Jughead's dog Hotdog are a band) crossed with the radio serial I LOVE A MYSTERY (where former WWII Pacific theater vetrans Jack Packard, Doc Long, Reggie York form a detective agency and travel the world to help people caught up in mysteries and intrigue). The show at that time was called MYSTERIES FIVE and had 5 kids in the band (Mysteries Five) named Geoff, Mike, Kelly, Linda, and Linda's brother W.W. and a bongo playing dog named Too Much. Between gigs, the group would solve mysteries. This idea would be developed further to become SCOOBY DOO, WHERE ARE YOU, but would also be used for the most obvious Scooby-Doo clones: Goober and the Ghost Chasers (like Scooby-Doo, but with less kids, Scooby could turn invisible, ghosts were real and would usually assist in helping against the fake ghosts + the Partridge Family. No the real ghosts didn't assist AGAINST the Partridge Family, the Partridge Family just showed up a lot) - Clue Club (like Scooby Doo, but with two dogs helping solve crimes) and The Funky Phantom (like Scooby-Doo, but the dog is a normal dog and they partner with the Ghost of a revolutionary war ghost to solve mysteries) - But the Mysteries Five format is also the starting point for Hanna-Barbera's adaption of Josie and The Pussycats (the version where they tended to solve spy mysteries between gigs), Speed Buggy (three kids and their anthropomorphic buggy car stopped villains between races), Jabberjaws (where a band in the future stopped threats to their marine world with the help of their drum playing shark), and Inch High Private Eye (a tiny detective, his two friends and their dog stops criminals). Arguably Hanna-Barbera wouldn't have tried The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan either, even if the source for the show pre-dates Scooby-Doo...1 point
