  2. I finished orientation and started my new driving job. Orientation was in Lenoir City, TN (next to Knoxville) but my truck was in DeLand,FL (near Orlando), so they got me a rental to make the trip, I loaded the bare essentials I brought with me into the truck, then I got a load from Jacksonville, FL to Piedmont, SC to get me home so that I can load the rest of my stuff into the truck. I got home late last night. Tomorrow I start my regular routine of 5 days on the road then 2 days at home. It's a bit of an adjustment going back to 53' dry van from 43' tanker, but it's a small price to pay to not have to deal with surge (the liquid inside the tank moving) any more.

  6. A little early this year but all is gloom and doom in peanut and crackerjack land. The owners have locked out the players. The two sides are not even talking. Spring Training is (supposed to be) 40 days away. Not good. The national pastime is past it's time and games lost due to work stoppage might well put it in the dirt for good. But there is some news that is interesting. New York Yankees name Rachel Balkovec to manage Tampa Tarpons. She will be the first woman to manage in affiliated baseball so congrats to her.

  9. we got something similar here in the US, but is doubtful many democrats agree with the conclusions in the video. two US senators, joe manchin and kyrsten sinema, are functional dictating policy for Congress and the white house. unfortunate, our current compromise minority government is in favor o' opening more coal mines and cutting federal food subsidies for children. ... perhaps am being unfair. joe manchin is in favour o' pollution and hungry children. sinema is... well, frankly am admitting to being not 100% certain what sinema is trying to accomplish. HA! Good Fun! ps (edit) information o' the kind @Gorth has no reason to be aware: kyrsten sinema represents arizona, and arizona is a near unique US state in that near 1/3 of registered voters is declared independents. closest thing we got to a three-party state. significance? independents is more likely to champion gridlock than is either republicans or democrats, and am s'posing that courting the independent vote could be sen. sinema's goal. however, am gonna recognize any polls we has seen for sinema has her overall popularity dropping, and she is current more popular with republicans than democrats, though is not as if she is actual popular with republicans either. also, independents do not vote in primaries for democrats, so even if she were sooperfantastic popular with independents (she isn't btw) it wouldn't do her much good unless there is some kinda enormous deep well o' independent campaign money filling her war chests. am admitted perplexed.

  10. I felt the same until some years ago. For example I didn't replay games like the Infitiny Engine ones a lot because after I experienced the story I wasn't too motivated to replay the game. Nowadays I enjoy roguelikes or other games that allow for a rel. short while of entertainment - ones that you can start up rel. quickly, play a bit, save, play futher later without the need to fully "immerse" yourself into a deep story etc. I still like games with a good story obviously, but I need to make time for a "proper" playthrough then - and that can't happen too many times a week unfortunately. Smaller games that still focus on a good story (but maybe less hours - or which are more episodic) might be better suited for me. Can't excactly say because there aren't that many games of that kind - but I really enjoyed Deadfire's DLCs which are kind of smaller CRPGs compared to Deadfire. With PoE and Deadfire the major reason why I kept playing them was (besides DLCs which lets you return to a game) this forum: when I discuss mechanics, builds, stories over and over again the chances are much higher that I get an itch to play the game again based on some cool stuff you read here. Or I get asked a question, fire up the game to double-check - and keep playing. Without any engagement with the community I'm sure I hadn't played both games multiple times.

  11. My 30th was the year for me. I had those questions pop up in my head before, but I always had the excuse that I'm still young and in my period of life when I'm deciding what to do with it. (to the other people here, I know that being in your 30s is still young, but you have to admit that at this point you are no longer a kid and need to have some **** figured out). Anyways I'm not unhappy with where I am in life, but I still wonder if I'm maybe missing out on some things... Guess you got the better firmware...

  12. I can't imagine the merciless mocking of the Packers if they hadn't won one early on into Rodgers' career. I think the Cowboys and the 49ers are the worst match-up for the Packers, so I'm appreciative of them playing each other right off the bat. Admittedly, the Packers always find a way to beat the Cowboys in the playoffs even when it makes literally zero sense, but still. If the Cowboys win, they have to go play the Buccaneers...unless the Buccaneers miraculously lose to the Eagles, I guess. It's nice to have the #1 seed. At least it didn't end up mattering, what with the 49ers winning.

  13. I can't speak for Freddfranca, but I did try a shifter theurge once, and quickly abandoned it when I realized you couldn't cast invocations when shifted. Also, it's too bad that shifters also can't cast Taste of the Hunt while shifted; it would be an ideal spell for them. Personally I'd go with a hierophant, maybe soulblade/blood mage, specializing in Concelhaut's Draining Touch. Ciphers have so many spells that drain power from foes it fits the theme well I think. You can also get quite tanky with a shield in the offhand, and all of the buffs hierophants can get.

  14. The bonus is caped to 4 stacks, even if you equip two Sirkles. The damage bonus is cool for spells since only firearms, Veilpiecer and Beza's Blade give full damage and can crit a Spirit. Actually that work, my beguiler skipped 10 consecutives recovery time with big AoE spells the second time I tried.

A few more bugs to fix if it ever gets an update: Sacred Immolation AoE duration isn't affected by PL (only the duration of the self damage); also the self damage part is considered ranged and is increased by ranged damage bonuses (pets, etc) Indecisive from Orishia doesn't work Fire in the Hole/Hand Mortar trigger Powder Burns twice per attack (needs more confirmations)

  18. Yeah, I don't want to use your experimentations as pointers for BPM nerfs in general, but I do think these 2 should go (also Scordeo's is unconsitent). They don't even need specific combos. I will spare the -1AR crush on Crit though. And BPM nerfs are individually easy to remove anyway. Funny thing that you're conctantly trying to break the game while I'm trying to unbreak it We really sound like cosmologic opponents.

  21. Thank you for your sharing. The mere knowledge that you can mod an ability type is worthy. Now the issue is it would be impossible to make the actual weapon attack roll Vs fortitude. One can either make an additional roll Vs fortitude as you did (that I want to avoid) or make a normal attack vs deflection and a parallel roll Vs fortitude for the interruption an push. This would be an issue for builds that specifically debuff Fortitude (Morningstar mostly). Now don't get me wrong your solution is great especially because of the AoE display. I could even say that it is better. But BPM objective is to remain close to the original. So I can't use this one. I went with the following changes : - changed the AoE hit to auto hit. So you only get the weapon attack roll for secondary attacks. - applied -25% damages. This reduces a bit damages Vs single target (since Clear Out shall not be a Single Target damages dealing attack). Vs other targets, the elimination of misses to the first fortitude roll does compensate. - Clear the Path push distance rised to 6m to compensate for the risk of initial roll missing. This would be the "more specialised upgrade" of the 2.

  22. Honestly, one of the biggest problems with our political system is our voters, sadly. We have, somehow, managed to avoid the majority of the voter suppression nonsense that goes on in the USA, and we've got a somewhat more robust election system that should mean the two major parties don't have the overwhelming stranglehold on all sections of Government that is the case in the USA, the main problem is that many voters just ignore the smaller parties on principle. Anyway, hoping for Liberal and Labor (the latter of whom shamefully spells their name the American way) both lose a bunch of seats to more progressive candidates, but I honestly think Liberal will probably stay in power. EDIT: Re: the insurrection/terrorists thing, I think one of the 'goals' was to terrorise Pence into 'doing the right thing' and exercising his political power that he didn't actually have I think, and declaring Trump God Emperor for another 12 years.

  23. I think I mentioned something similar about Sinema to Bruce before. She isn't really representing AZ and she definitely isn't representing the people that put her in office, AZ Dems. I dunno if she's angling for a lobbying position or what because it doesn't make much sense since she's probably going to get primaried and lose at this rate.

Once removed, everything went back to normal again. >.> I removed most of their "apps" ages ago but left a few like that and Paint cause you figure what problems are they going to cause right. Maybe it was that last update I did a while back - it can take me a long time to notice small things. And they seem to have added more r-click context menu items (to more of their stuff that I never use/care to use) that you can't remove without registry tweaks and ... ... time to remove more Windows "apps." Edit: I feel like they keep trying to stick their app fingers into all your pies without asking. Go away, MS.

  26. She indecently exposed her shoulder. I mean... yeah, that's all there was. That's one part lack of grammar knowledge - there's a whole lot to unpack, and I checked, it's been only 50 days (and more than a few where I just looked at the vocabulary list), so eh... things take a bit. The other part is lack of practice, so that's not bad indeed. Agglutination is very prominent in Japanese, and it makes learning words a bit of a hassle. Conjugation rules, as a whole, are really simple (at least when compared to German, compared to English they're probably hell), but that barely makes any difference if it takes a while for it to sink in that nuidara is a conjugated variant of nugu. It was hilarious when Ran was convinced by the end and Myao just laughed at her for a change. Pretty good episode, all in all. Probably the best so far. 03:30 in the morning, and work today. Woops. Good night.

  27. ...Did she actually do that? All I remember is her slightly lowering her shirt on one of her shoulders and the guy immediately being like "yeah, please don't", . Sorry about asking for the translation, I didn't know it was going to be that intense. Hey, practice...right? Glad they got one right, though! I think this was the episode where I really fully cemented in my brain that Myao was awesome. Something about the way she was genuinely offended with the painter when he wanted to paint her and then immediately abandoned her when he came across Ran really resonated with me, for whatever reason. I was mad at that jerk for the entire episode too...and the fact that she had grown wise to his stupid tactics at the end of the episode when Ran was finally convinced somehow felt perfect. Myao might be dumb, but she's not that dumb!

  28. I think it refers to the moment where Myao, uhm, removes parts of her clothing for the painter. I should sleep, not try to translate things I don't entirely know how to apply yet, but hey... spoilered for brevity.

  29. At this point I'm not really sure why they aren't just allowing everyone back into Australia instead of limiting things. Restrictions make sense when you're covid zero (or covid near zero like us or Western Australia, so fair enough if they don't) but you'd need thousands of cases from returnees a day to make a blip when you're getting in the realm of 100k domestic cases daily.

When I got my apartment in Athens I didn't realize I moved across the street from the local clubhouse. We are family in athenian exile, joined by our mutual distaste for local food. He ordered the parts and got them delivered in a couple of hours and the whole thing got fixed in around 5 hours. Fastest service ever. And all it took was agreeing that people in Athens have no appreciation for crushed red pepper...

  38. Hi folks. Long-time lurker here who’s benefited enormously from all the builds and advice on this board. After ~400 hours in Deadfire I recently completed my first Triple Crown (on the 4th attempt) and thought I’d share my approach for other pretty-good-but-not-great players who may be intimidated by that achievement (I certainly was!). Nothing here is particularly innovative and shouldn’t be surprising for veterans, but I haven’t found a complete guide like this anywhere. Cheers! General approach Stealthing solo through the whole game is possible and probably the quickest/easiest way to get the achievement, but I wanted to feel like I “earned it”. I don’t mind cheesing a bit (see Gaining XP below) but I did want to build a serious party and take on at least some of the tougher fights (dragons, high-level bounties, etc.). I didn’t attempt the DLCs or megabosses on my successful run because I was anxious about finishing, but I’d like to try that on a subsequent attempt. The hardest part of the Triple Crown is the Trial of Iron (permadeath). As an unabashed scum saver this really forced me to change how I play and basically everything below is how I adapted to it. Party composition Any build that works for a normal upscaled POTD playthrough can theoretically work here. However, if you’re a pretty-good-but-not-great player like me you want to err on the side of caution and build a party that’s as low-risk as possible. That means at least one dedicated tank plus a dedicated healer. At least two characters need revives so that if your healer goes down you’re not screwed. It’s worth equipping every member of your party with a Luminous Adra Potion as further insurance. Renewable resources should also be a priority. With a full party, fights don’t often last long enough to need them, but you can’t risk ending up in a long fight without abilities/spells. Alternatively, have a few get-out-of-jail free cards like invisibility that allow you to reset combat in a pinch. Inspired by this post, the party I used for my successful run were all multiclassed Fighters (Tacticians) that can reliably trigger Brilliant. Specifically I used: Watcher: Fighter (Tactician) / Wizard (Blood Mage) → damage, crowd control, debuffs or whatever else is needed in each fight (micro-intensive) Fighter (Tactician) / Wizard (Blood Mage) → wizard buffs + Citzal’s Spirit Lance + Cleaving Stance + Clear Out = main damage dealer Fighter (Tactician) / Cipher (Beguiler) → keeps all enemies flanked with Phantom Foes; additional buffs/debuffs as needed; uses The Red Hand for supplementary DPS Fighter (Tactician) / Paladin (Shieldbearers of St. Elcga) → main tank and backup healer, stacked engagement to hold down the front line (Kapana Taga for flank immune) Fighter (Tactician) / Priest (Eothas) → main healer, buffer and off-tank (Squid’s Grasp for flank immune) Yes, it’s a cheesy OP party, but sometimes you need to pull out all the stops! Happy to provide specific build details if anyone’s interested. Gaining XP In a normal run I enjoy grinding through the low levels, but with permadeath looming I had to adapt by rushing to a relatively high level before getting into any real fights. Here’s my strategy (requires Berath’s Blessings for Level 4 + 50,000 gold + Stormwind Sails + veteran sailors): Make Edér a Rogue and put all points into Stealth (and Smoke Veil to be safe, though you shouldn’t need it). He can easily sneak through the Sea Cave to rescue Beodul and through the digsite to get Oderisi’s notes. Go to Maje and remove all companions from your party at the Kraken’s Eye. You gain experience 40% faster when solo and you won’t need any help for a while. Might as well do the other quick Maje quests while you’re here (can’t sail anywhere without my boy Riggere!). Sail to Nekataka, complete The Shipwright's Plight, then buy a Dhow. Sail to Sayuka and buy three Royal Bronzers. Equip your hull/sails from Berath. Hire/recruit the finest sailors the Deadfire has to offer… or whatever you can afford. At this point you can comfortably win every single naval combat on the map (see this thread on naval combat tips). If in doubt (e.g., if your hull health is low or a ship starts sailing toward you to board), just retreat and try again. With Dhow + Stormwind Sails you almost always have the initiative. Sail around sinking all the named ships and visiting all the named map features for additional XP. You should also collect any freebies relevant to your planned build (e.g., Nalvi pet, Lord Darryn's Voulge). Cash in those bounties! Specifically, go to Aenia (Queen’s Berth), Barati (Kahanga Palace), Fleet Master Wakoyo (Brass Citadel) and Udita (Dunnage) who have all the ship bounties. At this point you should be around level 13 and that’s without doing any of the non-combat quests in Nekataka! You can tackle those now if you want (see these threads for suggested quest order) to gain another level or two. Once you’re ready to actually fight stuff (and ideally right after your Watcher has hit a new level), go ahead and hire/recruit your companions who will be one level behind. You can then circle back to low-level combat quests/bounties. Make sure to prioritize whatever gear you need for your builds before taking on any harder fights. By my 4th Triple Crown attempt, I was able to make it to level 13 in about 2.5 hours realtime. Since I was prepared for my runs to end at any moment, I didn’t want to waste any more time than necessary getting up to speed. Dealing with Expert Mode If you’re not used to playing in Expert Mode (where lots of useful UI features are missing), there are a couple things you need to get used to. The biggest one is not being able to see area of effect indicators. I died on one of my attempts because I accidentally aggroed the Nekataka city guards with a fireball while fighting Katrenn. For my successful run, I switched my main grimoire from Ninagauth’s Teachings to the Dusty Black Grimoire which has more single-target and Foe-only spells. Not having combat tooltips was also tricky, mainly for determining enemy AC and defenses at a glance. However, you still get most of that information in the combat log. In general, having the wiki open in the background is helpful to fill in gaps, especially for dialogue options. Also, the AI is your best tool for minimizing human error (e.g., you can set up your AI to use/avoid abilities based on enemy immunities that you can’t immediately see as a player). The More Custom AI Conditions mod is a true blessing, but mods certainly aren't necessary. Final thoughts By the time you’re level ~15 with all your core abilities and gear, your Triple Crown run shouldn’t feel fundamentally different from a normal POTD playthrough. By that point a solid party composition should be pretty resilient in any fights below your level (even with upscaling). You just can’t afford to make any dumb mistakes. Often I play with a podcast or movie running in the background, but for my Triple Crown runs I really had to be paying attention to avoid silly mistakes (forgetting to rest off injuries before a tough fight, picking a wrong dialogue option that triggers combat, etc.). It may help to actually write out a plan before you start your run. I know it sounds like homework, but I promise it’ll take less time than restarting after you get killed by Ateira (like I did on my first attempt). Knowing which quests and gear to prioritize (and in which order) will reduce the likelihood of a game-ending error. Final tip: when you do inevitably fail an attempt, I suggest sticking with the same party concept for the next run (with any necessary tweaks) so you can reuse your AI scripts and quest order. You’ll save time and you’re less likely to make the same dumb mistake twice. As I said above, I’m no expert at this game. Just an enthusiast happy to achieve this milestone. I hope this advice is helpful to others, and maybe even encourages other long-time players to attempt the Triple Crown for the first time. Next stop: The Ultimate!
