Hello everyone, long time lurker, first time poster to this thread. I have a lot of PS4 games, but my time gaming in front of a TV screen has been severely limited. That said, before I curtailed my play time, I enjoyed the PS4 (then again, I've played consoles for a long time and have almost never had a super-powered top-of-the-line PC to jade me over inferior display/input). However, as I've ended up mostly playing Switch games if I play a console game, I'm not sure about upgrading to the PS5 or X-Box Series X. It also depends on how much you want the exclusive games that end up on a system (as a huge Persona fan, I got my PS4 in anticipation of it being released. Ironically, as it turns out, I've never had a chance to play it).3 points

Of course (facepalm) thanks for correcting me. Nice idea about the Zerker/Skald! The Furyshaper/Troubadour could team up with the Blood Mage/Troubadour. BM would bring Miasma to the table, plus the Ryngrim spells and several pulsing AoEs. Since we're there, they could also team up with the Druid/Troubadour for more pulsing AoEs... and everybody keeps chanting Thick Grew Their Tongue on Brisk Recitation, being like:3 points
-
Iirc if you add Spirit Frenzy to a Troubadour's Brisk Recitation (while Energized) you can get two hit rolls every three secs for potential crits/interrupts. Afaik both rolls will profit from the Helm of the White Void if you combine The Long Night's Drink with Spirit Frenzy. And this combo also lowers fortitude even more for more future crits. Of course you'll override Frenzy's strong inspiration with energized For me the advantage over a chanter/caster combo like chanter/druid (just speaking about interrupts via energized) is that both rolls happen passively: you don't need to "sacrifice" any action time since the chant + stagger rolls happen on the fly. You can add fast invocations then (again double roll) - like Ben Fidel + Spirit Frenzy. No AoE pulsing besides Brisk Recitation unfortunately. If you have the time to cast some pulsing spells: that will pay off, too - of course. Completely different action economy though.3 points

It is now clear to me that when Ember cheerfully informed us that "Our suffering has only begun!" she was all too aware of how aneurysm-inducing the Enigma puzzles were going to be. Seriously, may there be a pox on the house of the developer who thought that what the agonisingly tedious puzzles needed was a terrible interface that makes trying to follow online guides a trial in frustration in and of itself.3 points

I found this cute/charming, interesting, and occasionally lightly amusing. Since it's Firefly related I'll put it here.3 points

After I saw and loved Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop was an anime lots told me I should watch. Wasn't my thing or something, didn't watch it very far. That said, I did mean to give it another, longer chance, but like with many things never got around to it. That trailer is at least a little amusing and John Cho is usually decent. ...I wonder if Netflix would do a live-action Champloo. I'd guess it's not avant-garde (or whatever) enough. Then again, since I loved that anime, I probably wouldn't want them to, I'll just stick to my blu-ray of the anime. I also have never figured out any current actor who I might see/like as Jin. Mugen would be a little easier.2 points

I forget mine, probably Super Mario Bros on the NES, did spend a fair amount of time in consoles, had a Genesis but last touched it in 1996. Other than that, mostly PC, playing 80s MPS flight sims, at least had the manuals for that. Had Populous 2, not only would that cause my 386 to hard lock maybe 40% of the time, I had no manual so no clue what I was doing.2 points

As a Pole, I am of course familiar with the works of Stanisław Lem, Tales of Pirx the Pilot was one of my earliest exposures to sci-fi. Lem and Verne were staples of my parents' bedtime story repertoire. I'll definitely keep an eye on The Invincible. Edit: Add Dumas to that list. I don't remember if they read me the whole series, but I vividly remember The Three Musketeers and Twenty Years After.2 points

Wards - like other summons and Walls - are separate entities and unfortunately don't profit from your energized inspiration. But of course once enemies get crit by a Fear Ward you don't need to interrupt them anymore anyway. So yes, Furyshaper is a great pick imo, especially in combo with Helm of the White Void and Ben Fidel's Neck (the helm won't help the Ward, but it makes it so easy to hit with Ben Fidel which lowers Will by 10 bc. of frightened and then another 10 because of the upgrade which stacks). The Fear Ward has rather bad ACC. If it doesn't crit it can't terrify enemies with solid RES long enough - so all will debuffs do help a lot. An energized Berzerker/Skald with Many Lives + Blightheart and Blood Thirst - spamming Her Revenge - will interrupt most enemies in range all the time due to muktihit attack + no recovery and only 0.5 sec casting time PLUS chant and stagger procs. But he will do not much else than casting Her Revenge (can get quite boring - but also easy to script). Also it's worth debating whether the interrupts have any impact or not because enemies will die from Her Revenge so quickly...2 points

Hah, I used to show Firefly episodes to my students during the extra testing blocks, and the kids who spoke Mandarin and Cantonese always got a kick at how bad the Chinese was in the show.2 points

I recommend it. The protagonist is a fella but instead of shonen yelling all the time he's more quiet and contemplative. There's a lot of fantasy violence too, so it may bring back memories of splattering bandits in BG1.2 points

I don't care much whether a game is RTwP or Turn Based. Both works well for me as long as it's implemented well enough. As long as the game is fun and entertaining it's all okay. I prefer PoE and Deadfire in RTwP mode - but I slightly lean towards Turn Based generally. Why would you look down on people who prefer the one over the other? Or even worse: insult them for their taste? You prefer merlot over riesling? You barbarian! You like mac and cheese? Culinary vandal! You prefer RTwP? You must have too many chromosomes! Really? That's your assessment of the situation where it's about personal taste? Wow... It's sarcastically funny how some gamers steer away from divisive stuff like color of skin, religion, social status etc. but then show the same old zealous behavior as emotionally underdeveloped five year old crusaders when figuratively splitting each other's skulls over playstation vs. xbox, windows vs. linux, RTwP vs. TB and so on.2 points

I loved TO:LUCT. I wish I was better at strategy games, as I liked the idea of Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen as well, and the game was good, I just sucked at it so never completed it. Never played OB64:Person of Lordly Calibur and OB Gaiden: Prince of Zenobia never got a western release (and was a Neo Geo Pocket Color release). TO: the Knight of Lodis for the Gameboy Advance was okay, but not quite what TO:LUCT was, partially because of some nerfs they did to some of the classic LUCT classes (IMO), but the story wasn't as involved either. Sadly with Square's purchase of Quest, the series will most likely never be heard from again in favor of Final Fantasy Tactics games. I loved the first FFT, but beyond that the games weren't that good, IMO. I particularly hated the first sequel (FFT Advance) and the horse it rode in on.1 point

Unfortunately, Deadfire has a very bad habit of being quite vague when it comes to weapon-triggered abilities. e.g. "Do freeze damage in a cone on crit", with no mention of penetration, area, damage, etc. I've found that some of these abilities are quite powerful, such as Voidwheel's triggered Necrotic Lance, which receives bonuses not just from your Might, but also weapon upgrade, sneak attack, deathblows, soul whip, etc., easily doing hundreds of damage. But not all effects follow this rule, such as a lot of raw damage DoT effects, e.g. Three Bells Through simply applies a 5 dmg/3 sec DoT for 12 seconds, affected by intellect and might but nothing else. Which abilities have you found to be actually useful?1 point
-
Three Bells Through (and other similar "narrow line AoE" weapons like that one bow - that looks a bit like a harp which I forgot the name of - that fires a straight line on crit or x% hit or something) have a weird implementation. They don't carry weapon effects properly and don't work correctly with Driving Flights and Twinned Shot. And that one bow is extremely funny with Tinned Shot because if the "line" proc happens the two arrows that would normally fly in an arc to the target just go off to both sides in a straight line (hitting nothing).1 point
-
In reference to the above, one important distinction is that if a weapon has an effect on kill, does the kill need to be done with the weapon (most cases, for example Grave Calling) OR can it be a kill with any means (like Engoliero de Espirs, cascading kills off spells/abilities and its own effects).1 point
-
In addition to those discussions and as @Haplok has illustrated several times, Assassin/Blood Mage wielding Engoliero do Espirs and tossing things Minoletta's Precisely Piercing Burst from stealth/invis can be very nasty and powerful. I particularly agree with you about Three Bells Through. On paper, the relatively vague description makes it a prime candidate for very strong metagaming but in practice, it's basically a low damage arquebus. The biggest letdown is that special attack effects don't carry over the additional targets.1 point

That's a great point, and for a Chanter/Barb Interrupter, you could also sacrifice the Berserker goodies to go Furyshaper and cast the Fear Ward for more pulsing Interrupt chances right? Of course a Chanter/Zerker murdering their own skeletons on an industrial level with on-kill weapon effects is probably still a much stronger Howler... but that could be an interesting take on the Howler that is thematically strong (an insane screaming dude making so much noise that it constantly interrupts and terrifies enemies) and can work solo and in a party.1 point

Afaik all direct damage spell-like and attack-like effects that get applied by weapons/are enchantments of weapons scale with the weapon quality. For example Chilling Grave (Grave Calling), Extinction Event (Sungrazer), Thunderous Report (Kitchen Stove), Run-Through (WotEP) etcpp. and especially all those 1/rest stuff enchantments that are on several weapons but nobody notices because they are "only per rest". But since they scale with weapon quality they can become really impactful.1 point

Well, what doesn't make anyone want to rewatch Sailor Moon exceped two things: Thinking that it won't hold up to nostalgia (it so readily does!) and SuperS, and you can just skip the entire season without missing anything, really, unless you're weird in you head like I am... It's a good thing that the second episode didn't have the full transformation, because I think that's the longest one I've seen so far. Just went on forever, plus there's only so much naked nine year old on my screen I can take before it begins to change from a regular genre convetion to being just creepy weird, and it really toes that line a bit too much. I'd link a YT video, but there's only the movie transformation. Or one of the movie transformations. None from the original series. They're either really into copyright strikes or YT killed them all for the nudity. Yeah, no idea either. I'll say this for Nanoha: While everything is familiar, two things do set it apart from the shows it so readily takes from. First, the magic is really more like hyper advanced alien technology (as is the talking ferret) which now that I think about it some more, as per Arthur C. Clarke, doesn't make any difference at all, and second, the first two episodes didn't have the comedic focus of either Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura. Nanoha spends most of the time talking to her friends, being in school or interacting with Yuuno, the action was shortish and unremarkable so far (not necessarily a bad thing), but it's more serious in tone. Not to say it's dark or melancholy like Miyu. Far from it. It was occasionally funny so far, but unless something major changes, it looks like it wasn't primarily made to be funny. We'll see how that turns out. I'm off for work now, where a whole bunch of issues wait to be resolved, and some people need to be prodded into doing their jobs by making them think I appreciate their input and consider feedback from them worthwhile. Ugh. What did I get into IT for when I still have to play the diplomat?1 point

Perhaps it's because I grew up in Texas, but it doesn't surprise me at all. If anything I'm surprised there haven't been more imitators. The US is full of dumbasses who want to believe the dumbest ****, Alex gives the ones who want to believe conspiracies about alien demons an outlet and hawks the brain pills while he's at it. When you get down to it the grift ain't that much different from more normal media personalities or reality TV stars, they're building a brand based of an image and cashing in. Which is to say we're all ****ed and should just watch anime instead of caring. Like Berserk, the best 90s seinen anime.1 point

Doesn't ring a bell. ...Oh, Kuragehime, yeah that...almost rings a bell. Well, I vaguely remember the banner image anyways. My brain likes to reject information that it doesn't want to have, and I guess this was one of those things. It certainly beats the snot out of the idiocy Rebuild pulled. Give me weird and insane if they at least try to set it up rather than stupid and boring that they didn't even bother with, I suppose. Remind me to give some more bonus points to Sakura for ditching the whole ridiculous transformation thing entirely - the best part of them even in Sailor Moon was the dope music. Oooooh, Sailor Moon! Sailor Mars, Sailor Mars! Sailor Veeeeenus! Sailor Juu-peh-tuh! ...IIRC, they didn't really do anything special for Ami's song, but it was still good. Dang, thinking about that really makes me want to re-watch the show. How come shows keep ripping off Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura? It's kinda like they were...great shows or something, I don't know!1 point
-
Wow, this sounds like a lot of fun. I love chanters but I never really tried to maximize interrupts. The chanter/wizard would be fun, but I'm tempted to try chanter/cipher for another CC heavy build. But of course with SC chanter you'll get energized much more quickly! Decisions, decisions.....1 point
