  1. A Gene-Editing Experiment Let These Patients With Vision Loss See Color Again

  2. -----Part 1 : Build Base----- Version: 5.0 Build Name: Druidian Grandet Description: She's the younger sister of Eugenie Grandet, basically a Windfury Shaman + Affliction Warlock... Class: Tempest (Solo: Furyshaper + Lifegiver) or (Party: Berserker + Lifegiver/Ancient) 1.What' new? Nothing, sorry... just love to build around less popular classes 2.Synergy? (1) Blood Frenzy adds raw DoT to every crit of Druid spell pulses, and Druid does a myriad of those attack rolls targeting Reflex/Deflection (Well, as you have expected, Berserker + Slayer's Claw grants Energized and will also enable you to almost interrupt-lock group enemies, but that self dmg from Frenzy can be devastating on Solo + Iron Man. So if you choose to play in party, Berserker is a solid choice) (2) Brute Force applies to Druid spells as well, namely Wicked Briars and Venombloom (Your main group dmg source). (3) Wards are regarded as summons, so you wont lose much being a Lifegiver since only one group of summons is allowed anyway (4) Yes indeed, your poor Wards can be used as precious decoy to separate enemies or to help you retreat and de-aggro. Druid creatures take centuries to summon (base 6s) , leaving you extremely vulnerable to interruptions, so..meh (5) Lifegiver provides cheaper Robust, various HoTs, and limited but good +AR spells to help Furyshaper build inner defense, since Barbarian has miserable Deflection and has to use AR and healing to stay alive when solo. (6) HoTs can help Barbarian remain Bloody a little longer than instant healing. Race: Pale Elf (Solo: +1 Dex and +4 Fire and Freeze AR) or Nature Godlike (Party: +1 Dex and +1 PL while Frenzy) Background: Deadfire Archipelago + Hunter Difficulty: Triple Crown A painful but rewarding experience... this build is a nuke in party(confirmed), but i have to admit that it lacks solutions to real threats when solo, i.e. 3 of the 4 megabosses. After some regrettable failure, i had to re-roll a full DEX character and picked up Scordeo's Edge, and eventually converted to Strand of Favor (which are usually banned from my list), making it another victim of Strand of Favor shenanigans. To make some clarifications, this build wont have any problem dealing with main game bosses, some DLC bosses and plain Guardian of Ukaizo (although you need serious micromanagements from time to time). To this end, it is a Triple Crown viable build. Solo: Yes But not recommended, drop Iron Man if you do want a solo run. 15 Required Bosses: Depends on your code If you do mind Strand of Favor cheats, then 8 only (5 main game + Neriscyrlas + Belranga + plain Guardian of Ukaizo) Or, all 15 if you dont. Below is a combat pic of Dorudugan WITH Strand of Favor cheating PoE1 Set Up: Hiravias for additional DEX and Slash AR(Apologize in advance) and Hylea's Bounty Stats: MIG: High. Healing and dmg bonus all together are so good for this build. CON: Low. Tempest has great inherent HP number, you wont suffer much lowering CON a little. DEX: MAX.. PER: High. You need crits to proc Blood Frenzy. INT: Medicore. To keep Scordeo's Edge effect a little longer. RES: 8. I dont have strong evidence to support that, because crits from high level enemies can easily tear your AR apart... My Game: iirc, 16/6/18/16/14/8 (You may need to increase RES a little) -----Part 2 : Abilities----- Watcher Abilities: Almost mandatory (1) No Time for the Lost (+10s Beneficial Effects) (2) Wit of Death's Herald (+Brilliant) Character Abilities: Level 1: Frenzy, Tanglefoot, Spiritshift: Wolf (Solo) Or Cat (Party) (Spiritshift will replace your armor and thus lower your AR, also as a Livegiver, you will suffer dramatic PL penalty (iirc, stacking with penalties from destroyed Wards)when Spiritshift is over. So, by the time you decide to spiritshift, it is the time you retreat and reset the combat, that's why +25% stride is really great when solo) Level 2: Fast Runner Level 3: Blooded Level 4: Thick Skinned, Two Weapon Style(*) Level 5: Autumn's Decay(*) Level 6: Accurate Carnage(*) Level 7: Bloodlust(*), Bear's Fortitude Level 8: Bloody Slaughter Level 9: One stands Alone(*) (Yep, you do that, but it doesnt work when enemies also stand alone..) Level 10: Blood Frenzy, Wicked Briars(*) Level 11: Spell Shaping Level 12: Woodskin(*) Level 13: Interrupting Blows, Nature's Terror(*) (Nature's Terror is personal preference,it always reminds me of that OP Nature's Beauty from Baldur's Gate) Level 14: Uncanny Luck Level 15: Practiced Healer Level 16: Brute Force, Venombloom(*) Level 17: Improved Critical Level 18: Rapid Casting(*) Level 19: Blood Thirst(*), Spell Resistance(*) Level 20: Blood Storm (*): Replace these abilities with Tough/Snake's Reflexes/etc. when facing certain bosses -----Part 3 : Equipment----- (Anything can help you solve your problem will be the best) Head: Helm of the White Void/ Pearlescent Rhomboid Helstone (+1AR)/ The Maw of Ingimyrk (Helm of the White Void applies to almost all your Druid spells) Cloak: Cape of the Falling Star/ The Giftbearer's Cloth Armor: Patinated Plate Necklace: Strand of Favor/ Sisyfo's Stone (Strand of Favor is good even if you dont use it to cheat) Gloves: Firethrower's Gloves/ Gatecrashers/ Corroded Vambraces Belt: (Depends on your AR requirement) Boots: Boots of the Stone Ring 1: Ring of Prosperity's Fortune (Keep your money MORE THAN 200,000 please.... no?) Ring 2: (Your Choice) Pet: Epsilon/Pes/Giftwrapper/Grog/Ooblit ---Weapon Set 1---Main: Scordeo's Edge Off: Animancer's Energy Blade (Personal Preference) ---Weapon Set 2---Main: Sungrazer/Scordeo's Edge Off: (Any ranged weapon) ---Weapon Set 3---Main: Oathbreaker's End (Boss Killer) /The Willbreaker (If you can benefit from Weapon Modal)

  7. Some observations/thoughts: It is actually not possible to enter the Rebūtara Pass from behind, so you are effectively stranded on the island for the playthrough! (imo a feature, not a bug!) Opening the Legacy History menu cannot be done in the same sequence of scripts as character creation, one will take precedence. Maybe this can be set with the "script-coin" as well? Currently you have to fight the Tyrant of Decay straight away. Before having access to stores/hirelings. This is a bit brutal to fight solo so I'm thinking one of two options: Instead of initializing the quest to where it is atm, push it all the way to stage "Speak with Humaire", thus skipping Tyrant of Decay. Add new script-coins that instead fire the OpenCharacterCreationNewCompanion script. Maybe the initial coin could also spawn a "hireling menu"-coin in the weapon rack after picked up, which in turn would spawn another "hireling menu"-coin, and so on. This way you'd get up to a whole party for the fight. But it does not sound very seamless, tbh.

  8. The problem with being a caster who has to stand still for a long time to cast some spells.... ...is that sometimes they catch up to you. JRPG's - the place to get all your culinary advice. Maybe because of all the chaos but I didn't notice at first that these things weren't just a strangely shaped, singular creature. Now that I've noticed, they're kind of cute. I suppose I need to play the dedicated mage someday (figure in the lower-center). Only one I haven't tried as combat leader yet. I'm not that fond of her character (outside of her owl), so I sort of avoid her...her spells are nice, but I prefer having two who can damage and heal, so I don't really need her.

  9. I already watched the first episode, so... just need to wrap some other stuff up first. Umi is afraid of going into Central Park. Why not. Nicocchi is greeted by a random woman of color with a terrible pronounced "konnichiwa" on their morning run and is a little weirded out*. Yeah. Uhm. Good job there, animators and writers. Morning runs are also the perfect moment to finally get some fanservice in, we almost went 20 minutes without closeups of butts and breasts. Anyway, enough for now, time to rest a bit. edit: Rin and Kotori go running in their mini-skirts. Yeah, none of the people involved in this ever walked or ran any sort of appreciable distance, did they? Kek. *There's a chance she was just surprised that the woman said konnichiwa, when ohayo would be more appropriate in the morning, right? I mean... yeah, I guess that's it. Also, help me, I'm turning into a weeb here, I think some of the subtitles are wong. Eri talks about how beautiful the scenery is, and the subtitles read "It's so calming" - not that it makes much of a difference here, but what? I mean, unless you can use utsukushii as "pretty" and I missed something else (as in "pretty calming"), but she just said nanka utsukushii which is "like, beautiful" in a more direct translation. Eh... weeb on!

  12. is just not a meme worthy topic. musk is not cheating on his taxes or taking advantage o' some kinda rich person loophole, at least not at the fed level which is what the meme is addressing. and the bigger issue is that the vast majority americans support the current scheme which allows musk to pay at a relative low tax rate. even after the great recession, americans is overinvested in their homes and small business owners is understandably even more dangerous tethered to the financial success o' their business. too many americans got a retirement plan which is large dependent on the sale o' their home or business, and while home ownership is becoming more difficult, most americans still foresee themselves as future homeowners. capital gains. have mentioned previous, so is kinda a broken record thing, but where the us tax scheme is most obvious in need o' a fix, other than hedge fund exception which wouldn't apply to musk anyways, is the exceeding low capital gains tax rate we got in the us. 0/15/20. depending on your income, you pay either 0%, 15% or 20% when you sell a long-term investment and that investment makes money. if you make over ~$445k per year, then on your capital gains you pay 20% (with a possible 3.8% increase), which is considerable less than 37%, no? 'course most americans face capital gains tax as a relative small % o' their yearly tax burden, unless they sell a house or business. many americans depend on capital gains being low as is part o' their retirement plan to sell house and/or business. fed income tax bracket for musk is 37%, but chances are for the majority o' the money he makes in a year, the rate he pays is gonna be in the 20% range. add in fact that the ultra rich has business and foundation resources which means they as often as not they ain't personal paying for travel or even housing expenses. is not sneaky. americans is always reluctant to pay taxes. no doubt you has heard the wails ' o the taxation is theft persons, yes? so when is explained that rich people in california and ny, 'tween state and fed, is already paying more than 50% on income tax and that those rich people is paying more than the vast majority o' americans for capital gains, americans end up finding themselves defending the musks, bezos, buffets and gates from the dirty scoundrels in washington trying to steal the money they earned. tax the rich plans from Presidential candidates is rare practical. such plans is meant to appeal to people in same way as slogans such as make america great again. is puffery. however, there is solutions to taxation inequity but such requires a bit o' education and patience and those qualities is in short supply on both sides o' the aisle these days. a good start would be overhauling capital gains, which is actual part o' the biden plan that would raise the capital gains rate substantial, but only for those making $1million per year or more. unfortunate, capital gains is not meme worthy, so is likely doa. HA! Good Fun!

  13. Yes, Blood Frenzy adds its raw DoT on spell crits also. Not on ticks of DoTs of course (because no hit roll), but on every pulse of spells such as Wicked Briars, Venombloom, Relentless Storm and so on. Blood Frenzy's raw DoT doesn't stack parallelly though iirc.

  17. What a wonderful endorsement. You know, you already said that when you said it was like SuperS. To be honest, Love Live! isn't nearly as embarrassing as I thought it would be. Which is a "positive" surprise I guess, but lessend how bad it is, and made it worse. It's really hard to explain, but everything about his is neither here nor there. By the way, should your alter ego really give K-On! a try, I youtubed some scenes of the early episodes and it's really... wow, the difference to the end of the first season and the second season is immense. Yes, that's pretty much it. The bad parts are either jokes that don't work or whenever the show thinks it's sexy. Which just doesn't work. It wouldn't work for me either way because I don't really care about that, however even if I did, the looks of the characters aren't good enough to be interesting in any way. There's how the show looks and sounds, and that's just there to seal the deal. Considering all the downsides, the upsides must be pretty good at times to average it out. Huh. Well, I'm probably overrating it because some of the character interactions reminded me of much better animes. Many classic bad endings among those here. What comes to mind immediately is the new Devilman, although you generally didn't like it. Outside of anime, well... Mass Effect 3? That would be X for me. Although if my subjective enjoyment is higher than the average it actually is, then, well, I'd probably rate it higher. For myself, at least. ...and that's Lady Asuka. There's nothing wrong with it. Yep. Nothing really good either. Yeah, we could make an entire huge post about how the show looks. Sometimes Honoka looks like a baby. I mean, one of these stylized babies that you'd find in emojis. Any closeups are horrible. Then there's the CGI. <-- Honoka, at times. When I watched K-On! I complained about the looks of the character, but the animation is leaps and bounds ahead of what Love Live! is.

  18. The Spanish media landscape is... depressing, to put it mildly. Comparatively very little attention is given to international matters and there's a hyperfocus on the domestic crises of the day, on which they will keep on reporting, even if there have been no substantial developments. It's a bit of a feedback loop -- readers generally aren't very interested in learning much about foreign affairs, so not much effort is put into making in-depth and well researched reports. Which in turn fails to spark much interest in international stuff. It's easy to check too, the foreign affairs news pieces may have a few dozen comments if that, while the president trading barbs with the opposition in parliament will have hundreds. So to answer your question, yeah. Probably only political elites (and defense industry bigwigs) really care, and personally I would have paid good money to see Macron's face when he found out. I have no idea what the average Frenchman's thoughts are on the matter, but I imagine they have bigger things to worry about.

  25. Bump! Turns out you can actually set which specific scene to play when starting a new game Secondly, I made a script hook for triggering the necessary stuff: Conditionals IsInScene Player AR_LAX01_0002_Arena_Lobby IsGlobalValue b_Character_Creation_Complete EqualTo 0 ('b_Character_Creation_Complete' is ordinarily set to 1 in the prologue, now we know that this is not a vanilla playthrough!) Scripts GiveItemsToObject [weapon rack] s_ItemTrigger_S4_Armoire GiveItems LAX01_Trinket_Muatus_Head 1 CallGlobalScript s4_QuestInitialization OpenCharacterCreation s4_QuestInitialization is basically a global script that sets up the necessary quest variables so that the SSS quest chain can proceed correctly, and is also required for the arena guard cutscene to actually trigger... StartQuest [The Proving] SetGlobalValue LAX1_n_talked_to_steward 2 SetGlobalValue LAX1_n_Main_Quest_01_Stage 1 SetGlobalValue LAX1_n_Main_Quest_01_Stage 2 ActivateObject [The lever that opens the door] 1 s_ItemTrigger_S4_Armoire is an item masquerading as a simple coin, except it triggers a script when it is picked up! (It also disposes of itself instantly since it has "IsCurrency: True") Currently though it only triggers a global script which I've set to increase the Player level to 16. This has to be done separately from the scripthook which triggers Character Creation, since finalizing a new character annoyingly sets the Lv to 1 and Experience to 0... The whole "coin in a weapon rack" is the the smoothest solution I've got so far...

  29. Random Lost Judgment tomfoolery: Playing darts against a Russian ninja: Out on a hot date: Much like in the first game, there's a very short section where I get to play as Saori: Again, like in the first game I get to get her out of her cardigan and into a dress. Outside of facial structure, it's basically a full-fledged character creator: They don't give me all of Kamurocho to roam, just a heavily invisible walled off street to walk down. On the bright side, at least the camera function was left available which allowed me to snap a selfie of Saori and Mari out on the town: In the first game they let me have Saori tag along in Premium Adventure while I mop up unfinished side quests. In an ideal world Saori tags along in Kamurocho while Kyoko Amasawa tags along in Ijincho: I guess I'll find out when I finish the main story.

  34. The Love Live! movie begins with a dazzling display of a very young Honoka running towards an equally young (well, duh) Kotori through a golden park with incredibly uncanny CGI camera movement and motion sickness inducing attempts to create depth in the shot. CGI depth of field effects look fake, but CGI moving backgrounds with different speeds relative to each other without blurring effect is even worse. One terrible closeup of Honoka later, you kind of realize that these childhood flashbacks aren't so bad. The character designs of the girls work better as little children. Anyway, I hope the rest doesn't turn out to be such a CGI fest. I'm also very unlikely to finish the film now, it's close to midnight. Eh.

  36. Nadia, episode 31. It was pretty good and feels the most like the original show - characters felt like they made sense, they were properly motivated, the stuff that happened felt like it mattered, animation was good again. So a good continuation for episode 30 which had actually finally been a decent episode. ...Okay, with that said, episodes 32 and 33 were top-tier disasters of the highest sort. I can't even...holy crap. SuperS is probably the closest thing to what this feels like, but somehow it feels even worse than that, because for as much as SuperS made me discontent with the show and sometimes even mad at even my favorite characters (like that singing episode where Minako was a huge dink to Makoto), never did I want the characters to just die. I thought those other six episodes were bad, but this was truly next-level awful. It was bad enough I actually left in the middle of the episode to go get some headphones so I could play some music over the episode and just read the subtitles only. Worst thing is, what happens in these episodes is...it's really difficult to encapsulate why it feels so wrong and awful. It's like none of the characters are themselves but instead were replaced by some really strange and flanderized caricatures that feels like some really gosh-awful fanfiction, combined with episode plots that are totally and utterly irrelevant to and disconnected from anything and everything, bad animation that would be forgivable if it was just a scene or two but just keeps up the entire episode. And why is everyone always constantly yelling at each other in these episodes? Filler episodes have never been a problem with me in shows, often just the contrary, but the filler episodes in the second half of this show have felt like they occur in an entirely different universe from the non-filler episodes.

  37. Well, that's it for Love Live!, at least the original. The amount of spin-off series this anime has actually went up by one since I started to watch, and the spin-off before that is set to receive another season, apparently. There's not much to say than what I've said before. Ultimately, the final episode of the second season (and first series) didn't do what series endings do when I enjoyed a show: There's no sense of loss, no sadness, nothing. I'm not going to miss watching Love Live!, but that was pretty much a given right from the start. I just started to watch this because the name came up and it looked terrible, because... yeah, who knows at this point why I did that. As a dare? Much to the show's detriment, it did not turn out to be wholly terrible. It has decent moments strewn in between, and sometimes it was actually good enough to make me laugh and feel something for the characters, and while that sounds like praise, it's not, embedded in the otherwise - outrageous at times - mediocrity of the rest, sprinkled with way too much fanservice and yes, let's mention it one last time, Nozomi assaulting the other girls. As such, all the good moments do for me is not make me appreciate it more, but less. They're an infrequent reminder that you could be watching something better. They're an infrequent reminder that the series could be something a lot better, and lastly, these infrequent moments all too frequently feel like they were taken from better shows. That is something I did not realize before watching K-On!, but it's painfully obvious now. I've said that before, something being utterly terrible is better than being average, and on the average, averaged out over everything, so as to say, on the averge, Love Live! is perfectly forgettable with a helping of bad character design meant to entice boys, young men and probably old creeps, and music made to please the average music taste of the average j-pop listener who likes average j-pop. I'm sure the other spin-offs are similar. As bad as Sailor Moon Crystal is, at least it's really god damned awful. We had a lot to talk about and make fun of, and I'm sure I'll never forget watching it. This here? Not so much. It bears repeating: I do not understand its popularity. Other films or TV shows that are hugely popular that I don't care for, at least I can understand on some level. Say, like NCIS, or Friends, Seinfeld and a whole bunch of romantic films or comedies. Not so much here: There's better fanservice in other animes, there's better characterization and character fun in other animes, and there's better music in other animes. The sum of its parts is also not greater than the whole. Perhaps there's an answer to be found in the spin-off series. I'm sure I'll eventually wind up watching them, but for now there's the movie left, and other things to finish. Final verdict: Watch K-On! instead for something much better overall. Watch some 80ies schlock for better fanservice with scantly clad women. Watch Sailor Moon for a much better mixture of comedy and character drama. Really. There's nothing in this that's remarkable. Hell, Magic User's Club is more entertaining, and I've only seen two episodes of the OVA so far.
