A couple of hours of Inscryption, a singleplayer roguelite-ish card fighting game that everyone was raving for when it came out. To my surprise (as someone who can't understate how much I don't want to play any deckbuilding, card fighting games...nor roguelike games), it's actually pretty cool and fun. Basically, every attempt to win you go through little maps of random encounters and events, like a little miniature campaign (pretty similar to Faster Than Light). The fighting mechanics don't seem too terribly deep, but that's not to say you'll always win; just the opposite, you'll lose but get stronger. Lots of variation with how cards work but not overwhelming so...and a few of the cards that you have are actually characters that give you drips of information about the setting/what you're trying to accomplish as you play, and all that's done fairly well so far too. Maybe this game earned its Overwhelmingly Positive score.

I haven't played Inscryption yet, but I did play both previous Daniel Mullins games and in those 2 games the main draw wasn't the surface-level gameplay, but rather the beneath the surface mysterious meta narrative.

I bought Final Fantasy XIV pretty recently. Decided to install and update it today anticipating I'll play it soon. This started my trial period, so I guess I can't delay that anymore.

On the plus, I thought I didn't even qualify for the trial period. I played it a bunch on PS4 and didn't think I'd get the 30 days using the same account with a Steam purchase.

I've played Pony Island but not The Hex; now I understand why the game has...

Inscryption. I finished it, and it was pretty good! This particular developer sure likes his very strange narrative stuff that I'm not especially interested in, but on the other hand, it makes for a more succinct game that didn't take 300 hours to play all the way through a la most other roguelike games, and the gameplay and atmosphere were quite good, so I'm all for it in that case, :p.

Tried Iron Harvest. One of the last games I backed after The Dwarves was okay, this one is apparently supposed to be an RTS. So far, It's basically The Dwarves, just set in an alternate reality 1920ies, the kind where there's WW1 era mechs. The campaign plays like a single player MOBA with no bases so far, which - surprise - is not really my thing. Might change later, perhaps. At least it does have a campaign, so that makes it instantly better than 99% of the other RTS trash released in this day and age. :p

edit: Okay, so base building is also in there, and it becomes more of a traditional RTS with ressource nodes to hold and all that. Still can't stop seeing everything as The Dwarves though. Guess that's a bit of an issue, but my personal one. :yes:

It's a known thing to get +1 month bonus time. I did the same back then. I've also tried to play the game on PS4 for lolz but quit after like 20 minutes. The interface and everything is just terrible. PC Master Race forever.

Anyway. Still on Disco Elysium different builds. Boring cop just aced a 3% chance to remove the cadaver from the tree. Pros: sense of pride and accomplishment. Cons: no Voluminous Sh†t Compressor.

Nioh 2. Defeated the Nightmare Bringer, which is the final boss of the final DLC. Turned off the VA by the 3rd attempt. Not bad, but completely irrelevant, as the boss didn't even slow down while talking, and distracting.
Started a side mission to save some non-hostile yokai and keep getting obliterated by the mini-bosses. Somehow disappointing after the previous mission. Even more disappointing that the badger doppelganger (a summon) does not respawn after the first death.

Im 70 hours into BG:EE , I have reached  BG and its great fun. Did you load mods like BG1 Quests, Romance and NPC project is a must because it adds dialogue from companion thats lacking

I was thinking about buying Farthest Frontier (it's Early Access), another town builder/management type game...made by Crate Ent, ppl who did Grim Dawn. I like the folks of that company and figured even if it took them 5-6 years to finish it, it'll at least be decent. Most things early on sounds good, with farming being more interesting mechanics wise and other such things.

Then I read food storage ... spoils. There are things you can do to make food last longer, but it's "likely" most of it will spoil in the long run. eg, no giant food stocks for your burgeoning township making food management maybe a huge chore. Which is probably more realistic but I'm not sure I'd enjoy that as a city-management game mechanic. Maybe someone will mod it out.   >.>

the in depth farming and food system would be logical next step for banished

but the npc villager are still pretty stupid and have way finding problem

that is the worst part of this style of game

Finished KeyWe. Cute game, but very short and with minimal replay value. Hell, it kind of makes you think there are more levels than there actually are, because the game presents you a calendar that starts in summer, and you go through that, autumn and winter and ...there's no spring. So the game is actually only 3/4 the length you might think it is. Fortunately we went through it with Steam Remote Play Together, so ~$20 for the two of us works out okay. Having to pay $20 each would have been a rip-off.

It's a fairly simple setup where there are four basic types of minigame that are rotated through, and they're of variable quality, with various gimmicks added to them each time they come around. I recall this uneven quality of the levels being the main criticism of the game when it was released, and it's somewhat accurate. I felt the typing minigame was the weakest by some distance, but the other three - telegrams, mail sorting and parcel sorting - were of similar quality. The other thing that perhaps contributes to the lack of replay value is that the goals of each level are strictly limited to a few repetitions, e.g. for the typing minigame, you simply have to type three messages, and are scored on how fast you do so. It's over in a flash, unlike say, Overcooked, where there is a meta game of optimising your action economy to get a constant workflow going.

It's on my wishlist, but I won't consider buying it until it exits EA so any feedback on it would be appreciated.

I don't think I'll try/buy it until they've patched/updated it a couple times first - these kinds of games can change a lot between updates after first EA-release, imo - but eventually I'm sure I will, while it's still in EA. Maybe a couple months from now or early winter. The food always spoils thing turns me off but I am curious about the rest/what else they'll bring to the table, if anything. I suppose outside of graphics I'm not really expecting anything super exciting re: town builders since I'm quite familiar with the genre already but man I'd be happy with a new one that I simply like enough to play/revisit for more than 2-4 days. >.>
