  1. Yep, the reality of diabetes in this country. I do a charity ride every year called the Tour de Cure. My father-in-law died last year of diabetes related causes, and one of my ride buddies has a son who lives with type 1. Our ride is coming up. http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR?px=15363308&pg=personal&fr_id=13008

  5. I finished Xcom: Chimera Squad. It was an excellent game. I feel like Firaxis has been slowly getting closer to the formula that made Jagged Alliance 2 my favorite game ever. Growing up, the top two games in terms of gameplay for me were Xcom UFO Defense and JA2. I had plenty of other favorites, but it tended to be because of story much more than gameplay. Firaxis really nailed the Xcom formula for me with their first game. But with Enemy Within and Xcom 2, they started to allow more depth of personality in the soldiers. The colorful cast of mercs has always been one of the main things missing from games not titled Jagged Alliance, but I could tell Firaxis was getting closer. So now we get a little side quest Xcom with a colorful cast of characters trying to clean up their city. First off, the gameplay was great, but that was no surprise as Firaxis has shown they know how to keep the gameplay fresh. Each soldier felt very different from a gameplay perspective. But I also enjoyed their banter and the backstories. It wasn't super deep, and I think the 25 hours was probably about right, because a longer campaign may have started to feel grindy, but it was a fun and fast adventure with an interesting roster. Godmother, Axiom, and Blue Blood were absolutely deadly by the end of my game, and Terminal was huge in support. I also had Verge, Shelter, and Patchwork stepping in nicely. Cherub was a bit boring, but he did have one really good mission where he stood in the middle of a room with his shields up and drew all of the attention while his heavily injured teammates slowly whittled down the overwhelming odds.

  6. I don't know what people were expecting if the benchmarks are a "disappointment"? This is a pretty substantial improvement over Turing. Anyway, I'm waiting until AMD shows their hand before making a decision.

  8. I'll go back to my first response to repeat, "I can see how this may be true for countries other than the U.S." We *can* "just accept immigrants" because for almost all of our history, that has been our calling card. We are a nation of immigrants. As for the second point, we're wealthiest nation in the history of the world. Not bragging, just stating a fact. Lastly, see my previous response re: "growing and functional economies". Economies only function when lots of people take turns handing each other money. Poor people stimulate the economy in ways that wealthy people don't. Not saying they are better, just saying that it might be a mischaracterization to label them categorically as a "drain". If those countries have immigration centers that conduct themselves like ours do, then yes, they would also be inhumane and cruel. It may be that other countries are significantly better at this than the U.S. and you're mentally applying whatever standard you're familiar with to this conversation and wondering what all the fuss is about. The fuss is that we're really being ***holes with ours. The concern isn't that we have them, it's what we're doing with them. I suspect there may be a similar "gulf of shared understanding" with regards to the term "illegal immigrant". The immigration system in the U.S. makes it intentionally impossible for a vast majority of people to enter the country legally. Not just criminals or suspected terrorists. Everyone. So, if you're used a much more reasonable immigration process, then you, again, may hear people from the U.S. discuss this and wonder what all the fuss is about. Best of luck with your RL stuff. I look forward to your response, when time permits.

  11. Unwilling and incapable are two dramatically different situations. I will bend over backwards trying to help the incapable kid find some success. There is always a path forward, it just might not look like it did for the rest of the class. Special education teachers basically live in this world. They are all excellent at celebrating the small successes instead of focusing on the failings. Unwilling...eh. If a kid wants to space out all period, there is only so much I'm going to do to try and engage them. People need to own their education. I'm bummed when a kid fails because of lack of effort, and I will extend plenty of opportunities to jump on board the learning train, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Heck, it gives me more time to focus on the kid who needs and wants the help. That all being said, I do see it as my job to engage the students. If a good chunk of the class is not picking up what I'm selling, then it is on me to shift gears. I swear some teachers just assume it is the students job to always be attentive, no matter how boring they are being. My attention span is a pretty good indicator. It is not long. What were we talking about again?

  12. It's been a long time since I was at school and such, but I don't remember the "Vikings" being described as blonde burly men as much as I remember the romanticists describing them like that. The material I remember reading did point out that vikings "imported" alot of foreign people here though, so it would follow that they would look mixed. Except the more northwestern people that is that didn't have readily available coastal access. Then again, I read/watched Asterix alot, so when I think of the traditional viking look I generally think Asterix anyway.

  13. Other people have mentioned the fact that you can’t swim with planks or stems and that there is a possibility for water strider skis, personally I think it would be great if you could craft a raft with grass plank or stems and some crude rope, maybe you use acorns and sprigs to make paddles. This would allow players to move larger amounts of items than just what they can carry. I definitely don’t want to be carrying planks 7 at a time all the way across the pond just to build a house when I could build a little raft and carry like 24 of them at once. Anyone else have any ideas about this?

  19. Well I used it for a lack of better word since it is really inconsistent when it works and doesn't. The easiest way to test it is to equip acinas and check your spell tooltips in the ability bar, some examples are: It does not work on: Concelhaut's crushing doom, also i was wrong in my earlier post it does not work on the hazard walls (flame etc), barbs of condemnation (priest) It however works on quite a lot of Aoes AND single target skills some examples: Deleayed Fireball, Freezing pillar, Adragan, bitter morring, divine mark (priest), draining missiles, jolting touch (lol). Let's just say it's very inconsistent but unless you ahve Wael's on it is also very easy to check if you hover over the accuracy in your tooltip. (on 2nd thought it prolly still shows up on waels just with ???)

  21. Thralls are literally dropped out of the air Always in groups of six, picking them off one by one is challenging with melee. Might need to start using a bow. There are only ever T1 crafters in these groups though. Haven't seen any named NPCs either. Ventured nearer to the centre of the island but need higher tier cold resistance gear since the area around the tower is freezing. Not quite sure how to get the crafters required for that though. Anyway, Saruman says "Hi!"

  25. Speaking of motivation ... I am unsure I can do this for the next 15-30 years (if I can't achieve "remission"). ...I know, big deal, vs. survival, right - but it's not that shooting myself up (hahaha) is difficult - but it's the remembering to do it every 12 hours. The "can't go to sleep/nap or do anything distracting until I poke myself" type of thing. I have tons of clocks and alarms and I've still fallen asleep a few times without doing it. Heck I'm the sort to forget to take pills sometimes even when the bottle is right in front of me while I eat my meal. My brain, it does not work well with long-term schedules. Pffft.

  27. The things you consider cheese are not required whatsoever for a non ultimate PotD solo run. However killing the megabosses might involve some tactics I personally would consider cheese. If you are playing non iron man, you should be able to figure out non cheese ways to even beat the megabosses tho, but if you never played solo before it might take you either a long time to figure those out, or alternatively you could look it up on this forum. :P One of the most impressive Dorudugan kills I have seen, I personally would not consider cheese (but ofc everyone has different views on what is cheese) has been uploaded by jaggedjimmyjay which I think is @Waski on these forums but sorry if I mixed you guys up, I'm getting old. :P

  28. Aaaand it was time to visit Ancient Dragon again This time, I've decided to clear all mobs in the area, so I would not get any interruptions while trying to get to the boss. In NG it took me 139 attempts to defeat him, in NG+, he went down after 5 without any extra cheese When you learn all of the gimmicks of the fight, he became much less of the threat, and you are able to outmaneuver his randomness much easier

  29. I reached a new area, Gate of the Dead, in La-Mulana 2. It's an Egyptian themed area with a cool gimmick where certain special doorways flip the entire area upside down. It's a pretty great area, despite all the traps. I'd post screenies, but any still won't do it justice because there are a lot of moving parts in the background.

  31. I would like that. Decorations being set up on the house around the time of year. Maybe we could even find half- eaten Christmas cookies lying around in the backyard and be able to make a small Christmas tree from some nature things lying around.

  35. I know I'm obnoxious about this, but you could take that 90 minutes and mix it up. Like, do some exercise. I find it only takes me 30 minutes of dread to get out of bed for a 30-minute workout. That workout can be whatever, jog, swim, DDPYoga. Then you have 30 minutes to recover and log in to work late. Plus now you have a few positive endorphins to help you deal with the mouthbreather.

Halloween Candy maybe a Carved Pumpkin on the porch !, Christmas Lights, Plastic Easter Eggs, New Years Eve Confetti ... and Fireworks in the sky ... these are the only holidays I can think of that you would be able to see and find leftover debris and trash in the backyard in what I suspect is Northern California Tho ..... if we ever get other locations ..... having those holidays change to fit that locale would be AWESOME
