Ah, the dev too has worked in tourism and is working through his trauma with this game. The whole game makes so much more sense now.3 points

Literally in my next session I came across Sangani and Grieving Mother, I can handle no Romance but not having any women in my party seemed ...incongruous I decided to keep Grieving Mother as a active companion, I dont have a Cipher3 points

Finished Episode 4 of Frieren... I think I'm in love Before I started, I was worried it might be some sappy drama stuff, but I was wrong. It's awesome. An elf girl just after my head (not sure if she has any plans for that potion that dissolves clothes in future episodes)3 points

Why is it complete crap? I'm really curious about this. I'm not even going to give it a try because it's turn-based only[*] and because the character interactions look frankly awful[**], but I'm very interested in your opinion nonetheless. I also happen to think that I may never get another game in a genre I thoroughly enjoy. Oh well, that happens. [*] D:OS2 was total rubbish because of this; I'm not going to try another one. [**] If you want to create cinematic scenes with characters speaking so that you can see their expressions, their mouths moving and so on, it has to be done incredibly well, othewise it just looks bad, significantly worse than the old-school approach of games like BG2 or PoE where you don't get to see any details like this at all. BG3 is not done incredibly well and so the graphics look just poor, illusion-breaking. (Most books are much, much better than most movies based on books, because everything is much more alive, nuanced and so on. Curiously, and in my view, most "old-school" games in the sense I just described are also much, much better than most games that attempt to create something like real-life graphics, because they lose so clearly to everything that is real life.)2 points

Looks like 2024 is what's going to be my year of awesome RPGs. But with my luck it'll also be the year the world ends.2 points

Well if it's any help there's a brothel and it gives skill boosts instead of STDs, so that's that. Almost done with Sunless Sea, moping up some quest lines. Funny how this game low-key and without judging lets you be a heartless monstrosity who helps out with mass production of cigars made out of pain and torture or feeds tourists to spiders. Also I'm pretty sure I'm not me anymore after ritual beheading. Started Sunless Skies. Whoever said it's easier is a dirty liar. For starters, no savescumming, which combined with no possibility to sneak past enemies like in Zee is a Very Bad Thing for my preferred playstyle, so I keep getting owned by RNG and random floating monstrosities. Also, starter ship is tiny and steers like a drunken baboon.2 points

Announcements of announcements. Desperate to tell they're still working on the game.2 points

Soulblade/forbidden fist is also extremely powerful combo and very fun to play. It is one of my favorite melee MC combos. Very tanky with high RES and capable of devastating attack combos. With max RES you can pretty much alternate the forbidden fist and soul annihilation attacks, and take out most foes in a few hits.2 points

Done with lies of P: NG+ optional final boss sure is something. Actually, the optional final boss is still the only one where I feel I have not really gotten a decent grasp on how to play against, but I've defeated it twice now (need to play through all the three endings for the achievements, and you need to fight it in two of them) by playing just well enough to get it down within a handful of tries. The other two non-optional bosses before it, well, they were pushovers in NG+. Anyone playing and struggling, well, don't sleep on throwables. There's a shop in the Malum District that carries an unlimited supply for all of them, at a fairly cheap price to boot (this should alleviate any concern about having to horde consumables), and they do pack a punch, inflict status effects and a large amount of stagger. If you can get any boss down to half their health there's a decent chance you can just throw stuff at them until they die. Adding extra belt slots and increasing your throwable carrying capacity through the upgrade system is very much worth it. The summoning system where you can get an NPC specter to help you fight bosses on the other hand is really hit and miss. I played though the entire game without using it, only trying it here and there on the later runs. In theory it is a good idea because the specter sometimes has aggro from the boss and you can freely wail at their backside, however, many boss attacks and abilities hit in very wide angles, or even cover 360°, making them more of a curse then a blessing. They also don't stop the boss from just switching to you in a sequence of attacks that is patently hard to read from behind them. Probably the least interesting aspect of the combat system. Could use some work. Looking forward to the teased Wizard of Oz game from Neowiz.2 points

Im 20 hours into PoE and Im loving it, Im comfortable now with the ruleset changes compared to D&D and Im starting to appreciate many of the differences Full disclosure, I decided to use a mod that lets you Camp without camping gear. I realize this goes against the philosophy of "limiting " how rest is used but its unrealistic to suggest you cant rest without camping gear or that a bedroll can be used up. So I have changed my game to make it similar to other IE games where you can rest without camping gear But Im enjoying many things about this game and they include I love the lore and the narrative, the quests are interesting and worthwhile I really enjoy the combat and different strategies you need to adopt. It can get frenetic at times but if you slow down combat speed and use pause then you can micro-manage your party nicely if you want I like the classes and their abilities, I decided to be a Godlike Priest and a follower of Wael I also enjoy features like the Bestiary which allows you to learn about monsters the more you fight them I like reading peoples souls, its a pity you cant act on what you find But so far so good, really entertaining RPG in a new world with different mechanics Oh, one negative. No Romance at all and I only seem to have men in my party...where are the chainmail bikini armour women?2 points

Look, Joe liked Lies of P enough to release his first video in a year: Bit on the short side, but I'll take it.1 point

I acknowledge that I was not asked but I would like to reply. My main issue at the moment is how poorly Larian handles the setting and the storytelling. (Also, the UI, system requirements, RNG, and the inconsistency of the character controls[*] but those I can get used to). The combat encounters can be minimised and the animations, while lacking, can be skipped. Though, at the max settings and 60FPS, the effects blur away the limitations of the mo-cap, so it at least looks technically well and some scenes (e.g. Dame Aylin's armour summoning or Astarion's companion quest ending) are over-the-top enough to be good. On a positive note, I adore the immersive sim elements (would prefer if they were consistent, like in Dishonored), the number of diverse LGBTQ characters (especially that paladin), and the absence of DRM, MTX, and DLC. [*] The turn-based combat, the real-time without pause exploration, the time-freeze dialogues where, as a bonus, the characters do not move for the onlookers. Looking forward to it. Though, I am worried about the DRM - it effectively kills the preservation (as my recent experience with DA:I has reminded me). The game is also likely to be released half-complete with the patches and paid DLC coming for a year or two.1 point

It did hit differently as someone that has spent most of the past 20 years playing pnp rpgs with plenty of elves in the group.1 point

Alternating Forbidden Fist and Soul Annihilation only works with the Community Patch (mod) though. Without it the Forbidden Fist attack will not generate any focus unfortunately. With the CP you'll have indeed two very good individual attack options - and on top of their overall quality they both are fueled by refreshing resources which is aweseome, too.1 point

I like Vice City and all but I would have much rather had a new setting. Hong Kong would be my first choice (Sleeping Dogs was awesome). If Rockstar is incapable of creating a new city/region, then take the game back across The Pond to Britain. At least that setting hasn't been used since the top-down games.1 point

So excited to return to Vice City, but 2025? I need to forget about this for at least another year.1 point

it's a very steep difference, unfortunately. it's been a while so i don't know where my notes are, but i think it's something like a ~30% net damage difference (net, so multiplicative). not as high as the maxed-out speed bonus from two weapon style would suggest because bonus accuracy and the ability to crit from one-handed style does count for something, especially against high-armor enemies, but it's still pretty significant downgrade to go to 1h style. one-handed style would be better (if still niche) if you use weapons that don't get +penetration modals (like club, flail, etc.) because when you're underpenetrating that chance to crit and bonus accuracy can be huuuge in overwhelming enemy armor when you're down by even just -1 (-25% damage).1 point

ISTR that i did and it worked. i cast a lot of fan of flames in the gullet this is also why Delayed Fireball is great. NOT a meh spell, and the delay before it blows up is just enough to get back your spell cast. i play on potd w/ challenges with only moderate min-maxing, so i do find the need to refill (mostly early game) and empower (mostly late game). probably each member of my party empowers, on average, once/two encounters, so i find the need to rest after 5-6 fights. it can be a bit punishing on rymrgand to downgrade on rest bonuses when doing this, but that's just part of the challenge/fun. edit: early on, empowering a spell for blaster casters is kind of a trap. doesn't meaningfully help your accuracy, and the boost in power isn't significant compared to getting spells back. eventually, your spells are better and additional scaling is hot, and especially with the empowering talents you can easily swing a fight. case in point - i used to be pretty bullish on blood mage, and blood mage is super good no doubt, but alpha-striking the start of a mid-late game fight with an empowered top-level spell can pretty much end a fight right then and there, so the fact that you can regen spells with a blood mage almost becomes moot.1 point

I never liked co-op (either with PCs or NPCs) in the Souls game for this: having two players either trivializes a boss (by just playing off the other with forcing frequent aggro switches, thereby giving piles of free hits), or...the boss is one of them whirlwindy/AoE types and everything just quickly becomes an absolute cluster. Neither ever really resulted in very satisfying outcomes to me. but even after watching the whole thing, he still failed to convince me to play it1 point

SC ascendant is one of those classes that I avoid playing again because of how ridiculous it is. In 90% cases Thunderous Report - Time Parasite - spam Amplified Wave and the map is clear before the first ascension is over. Even without Thunderous Report, there are more AOE ranged weapons than melee ones so you'll have a harder time building focus with melee weapons1 point

Act 3. Spoilers for Orin's quest. I approve the reasonable NPC naming - a Flaming Fist called Fist who clearly does not have quests or information. The great battle of the fireworks store. No laws of space can stop the officers of the law. Act 3. Companion quests.1 point

am in agreement, but... perhaps owlcat took a practical approach and assumed that as soon as the game were released, a few persons would start digging into code and even if nobody did, somebody would discover and then want credit for discovering. the reality is, the secret ending requirements were discovered extreme soon after the release o' the game. maybe you recall the ring of wizardry at the friendly arms inn from bg1? if you don't, many others hereabouts will. the only way to discover the ring is complete accident or individual pixel hunting... which is what a few folks did to find other curiously rando loot in bg. yeah, no doubt multiple somebodies would try to puzzle out the heavy breathing in the ineluctable prison, 'cause is improbable something like that is an accident, right? so am not doubting somebody figures out eventual, but is also inevitable other somebodies would dig into code and unlock all the secret ending requirements. am suspecting owlcat were perfect ok with either resolution and that they assumed that once the secret ending were known as 'posed to rumor, people would do find solutions via the online community. am agreeing some o' the secret ending clues weren't so much clues as just rando requirements, but here we are two years following the game release and near everybody who wanted to complete the secret ending probably did so. owlcat russian developers is perhaps predictable practical. owlcat knew it didn't matter if their trail o' breadcrumbs leading to completion o' the secret ending requirements were rational and reasonable, so why sweat such nuance? HA! Good Fun!1 point

Yes, but the interesting part is the weighting people apply. Kissinger is an interesting exampe, see Ferguson's quote from earlier. Which is pretty bankrupt, but people run with it. In any case, people get really upset about statues of dead people either way, which is funny at least for the people that love them so as no one really seems to pay them much attention0 points

Soooo reddit says Owlcats fortified Playful Darkness by making him do damage to swarms, so no more poetic justice of giving that mutt ignominious death by thousand flea bites. Because that's apparently what this game really needs, to make fights with ridiculous characters less fun. Fixing non-stop stuns from swarms and those stupid ass crystals? LOL.0 points

Decomposing babies found at al Al-Nasr Children's Hospital. Honestly at this point you have to wonder if the Rules Based Order's accusations function solely as projection. Though I guess, technically, Israel didn't turf the babies out of incubators; just attacked the hospital and its staff, forced them out and made it impossible for anyone to evacuate the babies and for their incubators to run.0 points
