Heh, I still have, and fit into, my Navy dress blues and dress whites. Protip: The pants have 14 buttons, so we would only button the top corners and middle button, for faster pants removal.5 points

My guess is simply tradition, but I dont know the genesis. All our pants (dress and working) still had bellbottoms too, for when sailors used to pull up their pant legs to scrub the decks: This is why the Navy wears bell bottoms, and it's not for fashion - We Are The Mighty EDIT: Google says the 13 main buttons are for the original 13 colonies.3 points

I've got one dark blue suit from Mervyn's and one black suit from Sears. I think I wore my dress blues more than I wore those two suits combined and I only wore my dress blues maybe three or four times dress blues for reference I don't have the white pants though because I bought mine when I first joined and you only get white pants as an officer, staff NCO, or special billet and generally only in the summer. I eventually got to the rank that I could wear them but by then I didn't care to. You start out with the blue pants and get a red stripe (called a blood stripe) on them when you become an NCO (E-4). E: Bonus uniform that I've never actually seen after 5 years in the Marines. It's only required for Majors (O-4) and above but SNCOs (E-6 and up) also have a version and it's the butler looking version on the far left. We can wear that kickass cloak though.3 points

Momodora. Learned that when you defeat a boss without taking damage, you receive better loot, so I have been trying to do so and quite successfully - 4 bosses (the witch, the bug, the Pardoner Fennel, and the Heretical Arsonist) have been defeated and the loot (indeed, quite powerful) has been obtained. The areas became more diverse, though the number of insta-killing obstacles and the saving system are somehow discouraging. Or Ender Lilies just was too easy - I could loot an area and die, then just ran past everything. Unfortunately, it does not work in Momodora. On another note, the MC's bow has the fire rate of an SMG. Also, the winter sale has begun on EGS and there are free games daily. Today it is Sable, which I had purchased and played on Steam a month or so ago. Mixed feelings on the matter. Edit. To continue with Momodora. It is counter-intuitive that playing well makes the game easier. It would be interesting if defeating a boss without taking damage gave a new skin/accessory, but not a power-up.3 points

The only time i remember wearing a suit, was about 3-4 years ago (I think) at some friends wedding. Since I expected everyone else to wear a black suit, guess who showed up in a white suit Looked rather stylish though if I have to be completely immodest about it. Fancy brown formal leather shoes and leather belt, silver tie clip and those cuff thingies I can't remember what's called (cufflinks?) The only thing I forgot was a white fedora Ah well, live and learn... Edit: I did ask the bride and groom first if it was Ok, because it's exactly the kind of thing the groom would do. He decided on a purple jacket instead, so it was all good. The other guests... boring3 points

Got my parcel. Wrote an e-mail to UPS yesterday evening, got my code today after two separate callcenter agents with curiously Indian looking names told me they forwarded it to the party 'responsible' for my package. Either way, it worked. As I am, at times, merciful, UPS may consider me placated. For the moment.2 points

Mark Milley also used the 100k casualties figure 6 weeks ago for Ukraine. Doesn't really say much in terms of the accuracy of the figure itself since it's likely sourced recursively, ie the figure comes from the same estimate Milley made rather than being an independent source arriving at a similar figure.2 points

we got one odd suit and it were gifted to us as a joke. a few o' our colleagues got tired o' our simple country lawyer schtick, so they bought us a seersucker suit. ... gotta admit, the seersucker is extreme comfortable. HA! Good Fun!2 points

our vote for worst traffic chaos, based on personal experience only, is mumbai. those three-wheel black and yellow cabs ignore even the idea o' lanes and scooters dart in and out from behind busses on streets which narrow inexplicably or lead to "intersections" which we has no vocabulary to accurate describe. india represented our worstest traffic nightmares, with mumbai being the worst o' the worst. I've been in that exact roundabout quite a few times Even the SatNav in my little Audi A1 at the time struggled to keep up with where I had to go. I think I also somehow managed to run a red light at a pedestrian crossing on one of the exit roads by accident the first time (you can't see it on this particular picture), when I just wanted to flee in sheer panic from the horror that was roundabouts nested within roundabouts It looks nice when seen from above on a picture, but at road level, with limited (or no, in case of traffic) visibility, local knowledge is definitely beneficial for your continued survival. edit: I lived in Woking at the time (working from home several days a week), but our office was in Swindon2 points

Australia recently (like within the last week) had a "mass" shooting (by Australian standards, 6 dead people is a lot, although the perpetrators only accounted for 3 of the deaths, the 3 perpetrators making up the other half of the 6) https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-63952883 The profile of the perpetrators may sound familiar to some, especially those way too familiar with gun violence. Two brothers and the wife of the older brother set a trap for police on their remote property. Created kill zones, installed surveillance cameras and then staged a phony missing person call to lure the police to their property. Four police officers showed up and not expecting anything other than to see if the person reported missing might have been seen, two of them were shot down in a hail of bullets from rapid firing, high powered rifles. A third cop got hit in the leg and managed to drag himself to the car and call for assistance while the trio chased the last cop through the bush, setting fire to the bush trying to smoke her out. A concerned elderly neighbour who saw the smoke arrived, checking if the residents were Ok with the area around them burning. They killed him too. Eventually, the reinforcements showed up and all three attackers were killed. Sounds familiar? So does the profile of those three. Raised in a strict, religious home, "anti-vaxxers", blaming the government for the Port Arthur massacre 29 years earlier, calling it a hoax intended to take their guns away from them. Oh yeah, the online routine posting/reposting of various conspiracy theories. RIP rookie officers (they had only just been in the force for a very short time, doing what was a routine check up) Right wing extremism is the new big threat worldwide, not just in the US, but European countries and Australia too.... I remember the time during covid lockdown, where the instigators of anti-vaxxer campaigns and violent anti-government riots, especially in Melbourne, could be consistently traced back to local Neo-Nazi group leaders. Nothing like a bit of the good old Ultra Violence to create a breeding/recruiting ground for new members. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-51621679 In a rare public address at the headquarters of the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), Mr Burgess said the threat from the extreme right was real and growing. "In suburbs around Australia, small cells regularly meet to salute Nazi flags, inspect weapons, train in combat and share their hateful ideology," he said.2 points

Yes, but you see, every time you mention russian crimes, you are by law required to mention crimes of similar value from the west, else your post is invalid. If you don't do this, you automatically absolve the west of all its wrongdoings.2 points

About an hour ago, my goal nr. 29 for this year has been completed December 18, 16:30 – After 1 hour and 6 attempts, the Friendly Match challenge versus Noctis in Final Fantasy XV – Episode Ignis DLC has been won, and with it, the last PS4 trophy of this DLC is mine. The final attempt took me 10 minutes and 54 seconds, which surprised me a lot, because most of the guides to this fight, that I have watched, lasted more than 15 minutes. With the rumours floating around, that this fight is the hardest fight in Final Fantasy XV, I was postponing the playthrough of this DLC for 10 days, and then for another two days, to start this challenge. I just wanted to have as good mood as possible, and feel well rested, before attempting it . Now, that it is behind me, I have to say, I had more trouble to defeat Cor in Episode Gladiolus. I think, it might be due to both Cor and Noctis having similar patterns in a lot of their attacks, so I already knew when was the best time to press dodge, to avoid damage. But the most crucial thing to be able to win against him, was to execute almost flawlessly the counterattacks, which healed Ignis, and have caused big damage to Noctis. Thankfully, because of the animation of Noctis’ attacks, it was a little bit easier to perform them, than against common enemies or Ardyn, so even the old slowpoke as me, was able to successfully perform them in more than 90% of cases . But even with that, I had to use all of the consumables, with the exception of 1 Phoenix Down, which the game gave me at the start of the fight. Another crucial thing was, to save your High Jump special move, when Noctis unleashed his Armiger Chain, which needed crazy fast reactions as well. And as expected, I have missed it few times even in my final attempt . I feel now as much adrenaline and satisfaction, as when I have beaten False King Allant in the Demon’s Souls, for the first time My goal of getting 100% trophies before the end of the year, seems little bit more realistic than before. And thankfully because of these DLC challenges, I am starting to enjoy the game more, than when I have started to play it. So my current rating for the game have raised from 2/5 to 4/5. We'll see how long it will last, when I start again to play little bit more the main game to finish the rest of the trophies2 points

The worst driver I've ever met (not traffic, just the driver of the car) was an Indian colleague of mine in Wellington (NZ). He offered a few of us a ride in his car so we could go somewhere. I swear, he drove like he was back home in New Delhi (where he was from) Probably an exemplary driver by New Delhi standards, but the three of us were scared ****less and made a point of coming up with alternatives afterwards when having to go somewhere1 point

No, I'm just an idiot whose brain went into "This is different, something's wrong!" mode and made me freak out for no reason. I plugged the XBox Elite back in and tried to play Shadows of Mordor, and it controls exactly the same way, just with less precision and with damaged buttons - the game just controls like a drunk donkey as there's apparently only one way to move when not holding down the sprint button: slowly (might as well use digital controls for all the good analog does when there's two modes, no momentum and slow momentum, good job game). I also tried NieR: Automata for good measure, and they sticks are behaving exactly the same way. Well, not exactly the same, as the GuliKit King Kong 2 Pro feels a good deal better to play with. Crisis averted. *sigh*1 point

Is just L'Equipe anyway. FIFA should just give the two a match ban or something, but no big deal. Some really weird refereeing this tournament. Still love Neymar getting away with a blatant tactical foul (actually a LOT of these went uncarded) and Messi having a handball ignored.1 point

May be up to the input mode as well. You're presumably using the USB cable, which should default to XInput, but the controller is capable of more than that and some games are sensitive and others aren't.1 point

I'm in the middle of the 5th crusade and am about to do the Wintersun quest. And I ended up letting a helpful companion die. Oh and two things, a BFT can use the polymorph spells on animal companions which is hilarious. Also an exploit I found in Kingmaker still exists, if a magus uses a touch spell with spell strike and spell combat as a swift action then they do a full attack as a swift action. Those quicken rods just became a real hot commodity. So far I actually like Trickster. The council reminds me of the Black Lodge, the special options are great, and making some drunk king while my god approvingly supplies alcohol is nice.1 point

No, switching is always instant. You can switch back and forth as quickly as you can smash a (mouse)button. You can even switch multiple times when the game is paused. All the effects that get triggered by switching to a weapon - see Slayer's Claw or stuff like Lethandria's Devotion or Outworn Buckler - happen immediately every time when you switch to that weapon. So you can upgrade from strong to energized on milliseconds or heal 20 points by switching to Lethandria's Devotion 20 times real fast. You can even use AI to switch multiple times per second when something happens. For example make a script that, as soon as your health is <50% lets you switch to Lethandria's Devotion as fast as possible until your health is higher than 75% again. The char will stutter from all the switching animations but otherwise be fine. So switching is instant and unlimited at all times, even during pause. It only adds a recovery penalty(!). That penalty doesn't stack with itself though. 10 times switching in under a second doesn't mean you get 10 times the recovery penalty. That penalty will just get reset to the fixed "full recovery penalty" every time you switch. After switching 10 times during pause you will suffer the same recovery penalty as if you only switched 1 time. Black Jacket and Quick Switch only lower that recovery penalty (combined they lower it to zero).1 point

Maybe devs are waiting for hardware to get better. I mean nothing can handle UE5 at epic nanite in 4K, even the 4090 struggles at 15fps in the forest demo with those settings. This engine needs next next gen hardware, (like a 6080 or a PS7) in order to see this thing at full potential1 point

Goal number 28/2022 finished Yesterday, I have reached alternate ending in Final Fantasy XV – Episode Ignis DLC on my PS4. It was just a short session, but I had more fun, than in the rest of DLC. Probably because Ignis was overpowered by the effects of Ring of Lucii from the beginning of the final battle, so this overshadowed the need for better reflexes, which I lack .1 point

Whelp, I finished my New Vegas run. I played through 2 of the DLC (Old World Blues, Dead Money) but when I went to play Honest Hearts, it started to crash frequently. I tried a few things that didn't work, so I decided to just skip the last 2 DLC and finish the game. I sided with the NCR this time (last time I went with Yes Man.) so it was nice to see that ending. I was actually hoping to finish more content, but the game was locking up too often. That being said, I still finished way more of the side quests than I did back when I originally played it. Now maybe I'll play Subnautica, since they just upgraded the habitat options and I can make my sprawling sea base better.1 point
