Telling image from yesterday's special session of parliament: Captions from right to left: "I need a bigger jacket, I can barely suck in my stomach and talk at the same time." - Chancellor "I should not have had that bottle of wine for breakfast, it is too difficult to sit here without falling off my chair." - Vice chancellor "How did I get here? What is that strange, black contraption the old man is speaking into?" - Minister of Defense *snore* - Minister of Health "I cannot believe that dolt is my superior." - Undersecretary to the Chancellor's Office If democracy makes sure that we're no better governed than we deserve, how much negative Karma have my previous incarnations accrued that I am stuck with these people (I did not vote for them, for the record )?3 points

That's some pretty aggressive pricing. Won't be faster than a 4090 (hence the lack of benchmarks, one strongly suspects) as realistically you'd have needed the previously rumoured (but debunked a while ago) extra chip on the MCM for that, but should be a fair bit faster than a 4080 and at a significant discount.2 points

So I have 12 hour clocked on Final Fantasy XV… If I would describe it in one word, it would be Bland… The Good: - Environment is gorgeous - Fishing minigame is relaxing The Bad: - Everything takes ages. Running around the map, story, sidequests, enemy encounters… - Most of the time “playing” the game, is just a waste of time and bland filler… - Because of the nature of the game, the subtitles are lost a lot of time to me. As a non-native English speaker, this is probably my biggest issue… After I finally get to the story, I miss some of the dialogues. It is impossible to pause them… - Lackluster and bland story. Story in Chapter 1 would be finished in previous FF games in around 30 minutes or so… Here it took me 10 hours… If I did skip all the running around for Hunts and Sidequests, It would take me probably 2 hours. Just because it takes ages to get to Objectives, which move you forward with the story… The Ugly: - Combat. Wait Mode is Atrocious, and real-time battle is chaotic… There is absolutely nothing good taken from previous games, to make the combat not suck - I have purchased Special Edition at the release of the game, which is just a waste of 120 EUR… Should have waited for discounted Royal Edition with all content for 15EUR…2 points

The Powerball Lottery is up to 1.2 billion. My left and right big toe and the tip of my nose tingled and itched while reading about it, which, y'know, is the divine sign that Imma fur sure gonna win, so I must buy some tickets tomorrow. It's a sure thing. Don't let me forget, now.2 points

it is possible to go from lich to gold dragon, as improbable as that sounds. our previous lich run were not a fun experience as our intention were to do a lawful lich with only as much limited overt evil as necessary, but owlcat's vision were making a mess o' our plan. even so, if am gonna ever do another lich run is gonna be with the plan o' going the gold dragon redemption route from lich... 'cause. HA! Good Fun! ps our dog is now able to stand under its own power w/o screaming when making the attempt, so we did manage a little wotr gaming even if we still don't get much sleep-- am so lucky am retired or am not certain how we woulda' handled the dog situation. point is we did have time to do blackwater with what is now our high charisma skald azata. the best joke exploit made our hard run the easiest blackwater attempt we has yet tried.2 points

The patch notes for 1.0.4 state mutations are not required due to one being impossible to achieve in single player. I am playing 1.0.4.3941 Rel on Steam. I have all mutations (and they are all max rank) except for "Reliable Friend" and my end game report card (99%) hint states that I need to unlock more mutations.1 point

I would like to see different backpack types added to the game. Maybe some with added protection or some with more space. The backpack storage space is quite an issue in my opinion. Maybe you could have one that was a jet pack and storage? Just some ideas. Thanks1 point

Played a bit of technical beta for Hitman3 Freelancer mode. So far really promising. A neat somewhat roguelite mode using Hitman levels. Randomised targets, optional objectives and limited access to inventory do shake things up quite a bit. Funny how much not having a silenced pistol changes things. From what I can tell there are no bonus objectives for silent assassin, unless there is reward for something of that kind.1 point

am thinking is all too easy to focus on symptoms as 'posed to causes. the ad is predictable misleading and vile, but the bigger issue is the recognition ads such as these, which for decades woulda' instant drawn condemnation from the leadership o' both political parties, resonate with a large % of white american voters, and hershel walker. most people is gonna condemn such ads, but the white republicans who know better are complicit 'cause they need the base if they is gonna regain control o' Congress and eventual the Presidency. since Gromnir were a wee lad, stephen miller's channeling o' calvin coolidge's ghost and the attendant nativism o' the early 20th century woulda' resulted in outrage from almost everybody willing to speak public on such matters. yeah, david duke and the like would nod appreciative at the blatant racism, but nobody worth mentioning wanted to be publicly associated with white supremacists, anti-semites and the like. nevertheless in 2022, oathkeepers and proud boys is fixtures at gop events, and their presence in numbers on january 6 and at charlottesville as well as similar loci o' infamy is hardly deserving a mention as such has become commonplace. am knowing some o' the liberals on the board see little difference 'tween robed klansmen and ordinary heartland americans who vote republican. unfair. the thing is it ain't near as unfair as it were twenty or even fifteen years past. working class americans angry 'bout the fact their manufacturing jobs were disappearing and that even if they had a job it were getting tougher every year to make ends meet, were increasing susceptible to the venom and snake oil being peddled by the likes o' rush limbaugh and steve bannon. ok, but why and how do we fix the problem? being outraged at limbaugh is swell and all, but he is dead and while bannon and miller is alive, internet vitriol directed at those folks only cement the faith o' the radicalized white voters who see lib condemnation as proof o' the righteousness o' their ill-defined cause. a large % o' white and working class americans voted for obama. that don't mean those voters were free o' the taint o' racism, but it did mean that their racism were less significant than their desire for change and they did indeed embrace a positive message o' hope: yes we can. am mentioning 'cause in a relative brief period o' time, a large % o' white voters were radicalized to the point they see democrats as more o' a threat than white supremacists, anti-semites and politicians active bent on overthrowing american democracy. serious? the advert is repugnant, but am thinking is far more important to focus on why so many salt-o'-the-earth, evangelical and white voters turned to the dark side. gonna need to look for ways to deprogram the willful embrace o' hate by the multitude and somehow convince 'em what should be oblivious-- that reflexive compare january 6 to the blm summer protests o' 2020 and/or vote for kari lake and herschel walker is something they never woulda' considered fifteen years past and is obvious wrongs. medicine dan and the like didn't wake up one morning realizing that democrats and joe bidden o' all people represented an existential crisis. is no way they thought it were okie doke to embrace proud boys, oath keepers and stephen freaking miller as brothers at arms, fighting the good fight to save america. identify stephen miller and his message as being bad is ez and is not particular constructive. the hard part is understanding how things became broken and to come up with practical solutions to fix what is broken. admission: we don't have solutions other than education. 'course the problem is education takes a long arse time to provide results and even so, the current gop is focused on undermining any kinda education which might fix the problems. HA! Good Fun!1 point

As previous, Europe could just do with less energy, it isn't impossible. That is, after all, 100% what Europe is forcing Bangladesh and Pakistan etc to do- and whatever argument you make that it isn't really Europe's fault and they're being forced to take others' supplies applies far, far more strongly to those others. After all, even if it isn't really Europe fault it absolutely 100% isn't Pakistan or Bangladesh's, but they're the ones made to suffer. Shouldn't have an expectation that someone on €1000 p/a should be happy to sacrifice what energy they have so that someone on €120000 p/a can keep their underfloor heating on instead of switching it off. Realpolitik actually dictates what happens of course, so the supplies are taken because Europe can, and if they didn't politicians would lose their jobs (and yeah, some people would probably die too but realpolitik wise that's only a problem, for you, when it's blamed on you so it loops back); and it's dressed up the way it is because that looks good to the population. The big thing of course is the hypocrisy. Europe expects solidarity from others and will cheerfully label less than fulsome support for them as support for Russia, war crimes etc etc. Unsurprisingly, they see Europe as having zero solidarity with them while being immensely sanctimonious about it too- and not for the first time, either.1 point

they got nerfed hard over the course of the game life. effects got weaker (the confusion poison used to be a charm poison!), they removed stat influence from consumables* (so no int, perception, might), they removed consumable-specific scaling (alchemy used to add PL and directly increase the effects of consumables, if you've ever wondered why that +8 defense against afflictions potion exists, it's because you used to be able to scale it to like +30 defense so it's actually half-decent) and then they made it so that only half your alchemy skill is used for poisons. you only get one shot to make it work, and most poisons target fortitude, which can be very hard to surmount early on. the nerfs mean that on potd, i find it's basically not worth crafting most poisons for the early-mid game. i'll still use poisons i find, but the likelihood that they actually land and that they'll do anything decent is pretty low. the will-targeting poisons i'll still bother to craft on any character interested in using poisons (there's the confusing one, and the one that got added in BoW dlc, i forget its english name). those actually have a chance against many of the foes you might find in early to mid-game encounters. with some dedicated investment, around like ~10 alchemy poisons can start being half-decent and you stop having as unfair encounters on potd with enemies having fort defenses way higher than you can handle. mid to mid-late game is the time for poisons to shine, especially if you have some gear that gives generic PL (which basically functions as 2x alchemy points for poisons). really late game though, it's really easy to just blow through enemies with top-tier spells and abilities and gear, and poisons start getting lame again, aside from big fights where you can just fire and forget a single poison on like a healer or wizard or somnething. * this probably remains the balancing change i most disagree with. edit: assassinate still probably remains the best "vanilla" way to make a poison work, simply because you can get +25 accuracy if you attack from stealth, and poisons really need the accuracy help on potd until you get enough scaling1 point

And what do you think Europe should do? Please don't say "Give in to blackmail by disgusting little piece of **** tyrant". I also don't get you constantly being snide at Europe's so-called "moral superiority" any time some European official calls out russia on its atrocities. How do you think that horror of a country's crimes should be called out? Like, "Russia, you are bad, but we are WORSE! Also hypocrites! Please forgive us Iraq and Iran, Serbia and Afghanistan, La Conquista, the Inquisition, ****ing up China with opium and lets throw it in Black Plague for good measure?", something like that? Also, Mamoulian War already said it, but I'll just repeat it for yer daily emphasis: "taking the 3rd world's resources " happens only because russia blackmails Europe with cutting off energy. Why it blackmails Europe? Because it wants its sanctions lifted. Why it got sanctioned? Because it attacked its neighboring country and as of right now still keeps destroying it, one civilian infrastructure after another. It all happens because russia started this war. It is russia's fault.1 point

Well, not a Nordic country here, but a similar concept to what we employ here I'd wager. Owning non-controlling minority shares (sometimes known as blocking minorty) in companies that serve public interests (education, energy supply, healthcare, infrastructure, etc.) allows the state to block any actions taken by the majority of shareholders that it perceives as against public interest. One of the reasons, amongst others (dividends), why Austria is holding more than 30% shares of the OMV concern.1 point

All of the universities are private, which get state funding equal to private capital they are able to rise. In past it was depend on how many people graduated from university in year. Finland is capitalist, where even fundamental services like electric grid and postal service are privately owned. State only owns percentage of stocks in several companies, but can't directly control even companies which it owns majority of shares. Although cities own several companies which they have direct control over. And cities fund public health care and schools. Although in end of this year public health moves to be funded by state. Police is state funded, as is military and border guard.1 point

I believe Finland is very much a Nordic country, not only in a geographical sense, but a cultural and societal way. I.e. "The Nordic Model". Which is privately owned and run companies with government run services (financed through taxes). Personal tax tends to be a lot higher than corporate tax btw, to encourage the growth of businesses. That being said, labour laws and regulations tends to be handled between unions and employers (the latter also have an organisation to bolster their combined bargaining power as employers). Only if voluntary agreements fail, does the government step in and enforce work place regulations (at least that was my experience 20+ years ago).1 point

Haven't noticed or read of the same thing here, but don't take that as an indicator that it doesn't exist. It's quite unfortunate that the math of money tends to work that way, i.e. once the "game" goes on long enough, more and more money tends to end up in fewer and fewer hands, which in turn skews the whole system in ways such as this. Nobody has to do anything illegal or even immoral, but things can still get quite ugly. Getting from zero money to a reasonable income can be extremely difficult. But once you already have plenty of money, making plenty more generally isn't all that difficult if you're not foolish or carelessly rapacious. And yes, of course the societies themselves are different and give different starting points: I got a superb university education and paid zero money for it (without scholarships or anything, just by happening to live in the Nordic countries), whereas an equal of mine in the US would likely be in serious debt by the time they graduate. Which would be an awful starting point.1 point

Been playing mount and blade bannerlord. Didn't enable the death and babies mod, now I gotta restart. It's a real fun game that is lacking heavily in some areas. Mainly that diplomacy is essentially non existent. Tried to download some mods from the workshop but the game is very strict on what versions of certain mods work with other mods and just gave up on that. If you could scheme, backstab and make alliances it'd be a great game. However as it is, it's a fun time waster with little depth.1 point

Is there anything more pathetic than thinking anyone who disagrees with you must be a paid Russian troll? Could it be hiding behind a publicly announced ignore and still- as always with such people, just grab Bartimaeus's script ffs it's there in his sig- actually reading messages and sniping away because you can't help yourself. Sheesh man, have some self control. Tell you what Lexx- or anyone else for that matter- complain to the admins if you think I'm actually a paid shill, or using morphs. Stop being a coward and actually make the accusation instead of just implying it so you can weasel out. If I'm not, you can post a public apology, or get one of the mods to do it for you if your battered ego can't handle it. No? Then you're a gutless hypocrite. Personal attack? Well no, objective fact really. If you aren't willing to back your words then you don't actually believe what you're saying but are still making accusations as red herrings, ie actual whataboutism. Also, massive over estimation of time required anyway, and, of course, always a giggle having Bruce say I'm never around any more followed by me being a full time Russian agent. (FTR I have a lot of under utilised time as I look after my dad who has dementia. Can't do anything for hours at a time that requires proper concentration and which can't be dropped at a moments notice, hence loads of things like gardening and yeah, mucking around on the internet reading stuff. Not something I bring up much for obvious reasons, only time I recall doing it was wrt Bruce Willis, since my dad had exactly the same symptoms) That's a massively long bow to draw from me replying to Bruce's obvious trolling by giving him an answer he couldn't troll back at- and was not directed at you at all. Let's be blunt though, celebrating the moral superiority and fantastic response Europe achieved by, uh, taking the 3rd world's resources is an absolutely terrible look for anyone not western. It's also hilarious when you're constantly told that colonialism is 'in the past'.1 point

It will be interesting to see how it turns out. I thought both Human Revolution and Mankind Divided were good but not great. It felt like MD was a step forward and a step back from HR. The boss fights were a big improvement but the story was just kinda... Nothing. In the end it was kind of just pointless filler and you wound up in the exact same spot you started. It was basically the stupid side quest from The Last Jedi in video game form. The gameplay was good, though, and I was able to pacifist ghost the entire game, so thumbs up for that.1 point
