  1. Going to New York all next week with G. Neither of us have been. She has a whole bucket list of thing she wants us to do. Monday & Thursday I'm all tied up with work. But I bought us tickets to see the Rangers play the Ducks in MSG on Tuesday, Lower bowl section 115. That wasn't cheap. $150 per seat! But what the heck it was on both of our bucket lists.. On Wednesday we are going to see "The Music Man" in the afternoon and then to dinner at Donburiya (unless she changes her mind again). Plus lots of other stuff I'm sure I'll be briefed on before we go

  2. France and Poland had pretty famous insurgencies during the World War 2. Seem to be doing fine in the West.

  4. 5 hours is a miniscule window to evacuate a city, so "right away" is still very accurate. Anything less than 24 hours can be considered breaking the ceasefire "right away". When a historian writes about this a century from now, that is how it will look on paper.

  5. And who will provide the liberating armies in this case? With NATO drawing the line at soldier equipment I suppose this task falls to Moldavia? Them or someone worse. No country can fight up to 10 years of brutal irregular warfare and emerge a bastion of democracy and liberal values. War brutalizes people, this part of the world should be perfectly aware of that.

  6. Haha, you beat me to it. I was going to say exactly this. Yes the costs of standing and fighting against an invader are always very high, and have been that way since the beginning of human settlements. But as the old saying goes, "I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees." There are so many things worse than dying, and living under Russian domination is one of those things for sure.

  7. I keep reading that the Russian State media is pushing the narrative that civilian deaths are the fault of the Ukrainian military and I don't understand how that argument works for anyone. If a stray missile hits an apartment building, it doesn't matter if it was Ukrainian or Russian. The missile would not be fired if Russia was not in Ukraine, so it is completely the fault of Russia. I mean, I get that it is propaganda, but it still boggle my mind that it works.

  8. I would like for you guys to think about this. Bugs primarily developed falling/flight mechanisms to allow faster transversal of the environment to either get food or to avoid being food. I can drop an ant from 1ft or 100ft and the ant wouldn't be hurt. Just alot further away from location. Animals that take drop damage are gonna need to be alot larger and solid mass. As scrawny as the kids are none should weigh to much more than a soldier Ant or a bombardier beetle. So with this in mind I would suggest a complete fall damage removal from the game. Still keep gliders as they allow for nice distance jumps and pinpoint landings. Change the daredevil quirk to something that would be more useful. Such as faster zipline speed, higher jumps and a possible fall attack Also perk idea Oath of the Shovel. Shovels deal more damage. Attacks from above will collapse an enemy (they sprawl and have to regain footing). Example of usefulness. Fencing by pond. Orb weaver is walking underneath you jump with shovel down towards your feet. The weaver took damage and your friends are rushing it before it stands up. It would be even better if this damage calc was based on height of the jump but because of issue stated above 30 cm should be the maximum damage benefit

  9. As you probably know, the Ring of the Marksman, the Harley pet and the Acina's Tricorn give some bonus to some weapon's effects, like the AoE of Citzal's Spirit Lance, WotEP, Amra, Keeper of the Flame etc. and also weapon's abilities like Thunderous Report and others. The Sharpshooter subclass give also +1pen and 15% crit chance with these effects, like other Passives from the ranger side (like Marksman). I made some test, so the fire damages from Keeper of the flame on myself have the +1pen from the subclass (<4m), but not from Marksman talent (>4m). In other side, Thunderous Report on far than 4m targets have +5acc from the talent, but not the pen bonus. That mean, for melee AoE weapons, the subclass is advantageous, anf for other effects (>4m), the class is beneficial. I thought that can be interesting to know.

  10. So I was thinking it would be cool if you guys added more types of spiders. This game made me walk around my yard irl and examine the various types of bugs. I live in a Los Angeles neighborhood and I found several types of spiders including daddy long legs, and two types of jumping spiders. I know some cities around here have black widows as well. I also think it would be a nice addition to hard mode or the custom phobia option if you made the spiders able to climb walls and bases because many spiders I've found in my yard were either on a wall or webbed up at a high ground location. I also noticed different spider species irl kill each other and in the game they ignore each other. Maybe that could be added too? My other idea involves ants. I noticed they protect each other and I thought it would be cool if they protect the player when wearing the proper ant armor. Since they already seem to accept you as one of them when wearing the armor it seemed like a cool idea. I really enjoy playing this game with my girlfriend and my son. We look forward to all future updates. Thanks from my family to yours Obsidian!

  12. Yes that is the Occam's Razor response. The lab theory was most likely amplified by the right because it was an election year in the US. Unfortunately that made it difficult to gain the cooperation of the CCP for a more thorough investigation. I still think that more scientific research is needed in that area so we gain a better understanding of this virus. Finding a progenitor host could be invaluable.

  16. Kanie this invasion and what it means and how societies reflect on it is interesting to me and I wanted to get your opinion on something. And my post is just your personal opinion as an educator and is what I am saying something I should be concerned about especially when it comes to the reality of Communism and the USSR and how its portrayed in schools in the US but my post is about SA schools and may not be the same in US schools One of nieces who is 15 has decided she wants to take history in grade 10-12 and out of interest I asked my brother to send me what is the current SA curriculum history. I have often heard in the last 20 years how " our kids need to learn the history of events that is not just "Western " Also this is my only brother who is one of those white people who believes " white people must admit we all racist to defeat racism in our society " and also " Colonialism\Capitalism is the cause of inequality ", Im exaggerating to make the point but he kind of believes that in well meaning way So he sent the grade 10-12 curriculum to me on WhatsApp and all I can say is I wish he hadnt It seemed to be about 60-70 % all about topics like "imperialism and Capitalism in Africa " and " the USSR was a viable form of ideology to the evil West " and " what liberty really existed after the French Revolution " and they do have a section of the Cold War that seemed to cover "Vietnam and the role of China " so Im not sure how they frame the dark reality of the USSR and programs like Stalins insane Collectivization programs And what my concern is my niece learns a soft version of Communism and the USSR and then when the reality becomes real like this invasion of Ukraine and Putins attempt to " recreate the borders of the Soviet empire " she will be confused and think " but thats not so bad because its an alternative to the West which is equally as bad " or something similar So the point of this post in summary is does it matter if their is indeed a watering down of the Cold War and Communism that is taught at our SA schools or any school? I dont think it really matters because the reality of SA is we have no agency in the new Cold War and if students learn something inaccurate that will quickly end in RL But I am still worry about how history is framed in schools and does it make a difference ?

  17. Brisco County - EP1 Pilot Chinese railroad workers discover the orb. The Bly Gang escapes captivity via a gag straight out of Roadrunner and Wile E Coyote. Brisco inadvertently infiltrates Big Smith's gang then touches Pete's piece. Pilot episodes are notorious for being bad, but this was pretty solid. It was mainly an introduction to the cast and a first glimpse of the orb's powers. Pete was the star of the show, he was wonderfully goofy. John Bly was also delightful, but he wasn't in the episode that much.

  18. I saw the Adventures of Brisco County Jr a few years ago and it held up really well for the most part. The sci fi elements were always a bit silly* but all the Bowler/ Socrates/ Brisco/ Dixie interactions were good as ever. As an aside, I'm not sure if we got the post orb episodes shown here first time around as I couldn't remember them at all. I actually checked if they'd made a 2nd season they were part of. *they at least made more sense than meteorites burning the gas off a gas giant though.

  19. I think that at least a part of it can be explained by choice between accepting the truth and realizing you suddenly are a citizen of twenty-first century's nazi Germany, and nobody wants to one day wake up as a nazi German, least of all a russian. A very, VERY big part of soviet identity that's been inherited by post-soviet russia is its victory over the third reich. So big in fact, that soviets appropriated a large chunk of Second World War, called it Great Patriotic War and they did it not only because they wanted to avoid the uncomfortable truth of stalin's russia and hitler's germany being bosom buddies before hitler backstabbed his mustachioed comrade by attacking Sovietistan mere months before its own planned attack on Germany, or because they wanted to minimize the role of Western Allies, but because nazi germany left a truly abysmal trail of atrocities as it went in and then got pushed back, much crueler than what it did on its Western front, and victory over such a monstrosity naturally made people feel accomplished and proud. Also, that's exactly the reason why russian propaganda keep throwing nazi and fascism terms like confetti right now - to trigger those decades of conditioning. Also2 that's why I keep my fingers crossed that cognitive dissonance keeps at least part of russian soldiers unmotivated, because nazi crimes did not differentiate between russia, Ukraine and belarus, and now when russian soldiers go to Ukraine and receive orders to bomb civilian objects...well, for anyone half-decent and with half-a-brain it should cause certain parallels.

  20. Striking new evidence points to Wuhan seafood market as the pandemic's origin point This is not quite 100% conclusive, but I still find it compelling. Are we past the point of heavy political bias on this issue yet? Maybe after 2024 then.

  21. Uh, no, thanks, but I'm not losing sleep* over the situation, just said it was surreal. *Not any more than my messed up sleeping cycle from the lockdowns does, anyway, or the usual sort of insomnia that's normal for me, anyway.

  22. Time to revisit an old friend I haven't seen in almost 30 years: My buddy and I watched this show religiously when it was on TV. He was a HUGE fan of Wild Wild West (the TV show), we both loved Bruce Campbell (who doesn't?), this was completely up our alleys. I remember absolutely loving this show then being horribly crushed when it got canned after season 1. That cancellation hurt worse than Firefly getting yanked. Will it hold up? I'll report back.

  23. My friends and I have been having an absolute blast playing through the game. We've been taking our time, building bases and infrastructure and what not. Progressing only when we want something to do dungeon-wise. That said, a buddy mentioned something the other night we all thought was funny and figured it'd be incredibly relevant to the game and the story. While we aren't that far into the overall story yet (we just finished Haze dungeon) my friend mentioned, 'Yo, we are a pack of four friends that are in their early teens that have been gone for 52 days. Where the hell are our parents?' We had a good laugh about that, but then thought it'd be awesome if at certain days an item like a discarded milk carton appeared somewhere in the yard with a random player's portrait on it with a 'have you seen me?' picture on it. Or perhaps a missing person poster would blow into the yard that you can chop up and harvest the paper for to use in recipes, but would allow for the kids to mention something clever to the others. 'See Ally! Your parents DO care about you!'. There's so much other humorous banter in the game, it'd be a nice reminder that time IS passing in the game, these kids DO want to go home, etc. Keep up the great work, this game is by far the most fun survival game I've played, can't wait to see more! ps - please reduce repair requirements or increase durability. We are finding most of our time during our limited game nights is spent gathering resources to repair again and again instead of exploring and seeing new content (now that we are into tier 2 equipment/tools). It is taking 15-20% of a weapon's or armor's durability (in a bad fight) just to get some resources to repair said weapons or armor. Almost not worth doing and just build new ones as you go.

  30. Check the Raithe's BBC link, it is really sad. It is hard to believe, but here in Slovakia, they are people who does not believe it as well. And they even do not understand, that in most heavily bombarded south cities live a lot of ethnic Russians, so Russians are killing Russians to achieve their goals... Nothing has changed in the east in last few centuries

  31. St... St... Discovery, thing. Episode something, season whatever. "We're in orbit around a former gas giant. The gas was burnt off by meterorite impacts." Except for the beginning, the episode was fine, actually. Not good, but in the context of the endless sea of stupid this is, it was passable.
