  3. 9Gag - Henry Cavil has been painting Warhammer miniatures while passing time in lockdown I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank, from the bottom of my heart, all of the NHS (National Health Service, here in the UK) and healthcare workers worldwide, for your unceasing efforts to protect us. I imagine it might be feeling a little rough right now, but you Ladies and Gents are absolutely smashing it! Keep it up! You got this. "Hold on a second", I hear you utter....."if he has both hands in the photo...how is he taking the photo??" New skills, my friends....new skills.

  5. @Gromnir I have not knowingly bought a product made in China in the last 5 years. What set me off was all the pet products they exported with contaminants in it. And the moldy drywall. I am actually very circumspect about that kind of thing. And all of my produce and preserves are either dried, frozen or canned in 16 oz mason jars. I bought 1k of them several years ago. Glass with steel tops. Don't know where the tops came from but the glass jars were made in Silver Spring MD. Just speaking of my solar system. The batteries were made in Vietnam and the inverters came from Taiwan (aka good China). The cables all came from Beldan and were made in either Rochester NY or Ontario. Then panels themselves came from Sun Power and were manufactured just down the road from you in San Jose. It IS possible to do this. But it means doing a little homework about what you buy and where it came from. Like I told Gorth, if your personal ethics demand you abstain from rewarding business with China then you do it. The last thing I bought that I know came from China was my Kindle. I won't buy another if that does not change.

  7. Excellent post. There is no green solution currently in use that provides "on demand" power in the quantity required. My home does have solar power but as you already know that means batteries, inverters, and consequently a loss of efficiency which was not high to begin with. One way to resolve that is a house powered entirely by DC electric power. Not easy to do and you can forget large appliances and electronics. However, I have been building a separate DC power system in my house with it's own circuits and breaker/distribution path. The idea being an independent power system rather than a shared one.

  8. Yes, BBCode is something that forum users and admins have been asking the IPB developer for since they dropped it for 4.0. Apparently if you want it you are part of a dwindling and backward segment of web-dwellers. So, "OK forum-goer". Regardless, you can still generate multiple quotes of the same post by clicking on the quote post button as many times as you need and then trim around the quoted part, if that's what you want. It can work but it's been massively oversold, just as with about everything else pushed by any politician ever. There are serious concerns over scalability (generally low capacity factor, geographical constraints, etc). A grid centered on renewable sources would also depend on power storage technologies that do not exist commercially yet. The economic hurdles are immense as well and there are serious doubts that transitioning to 100% renewable (where, anyway?) within 30 years is achievable. In the oft-cited example of Germany, the term "energy" is often used in headlines and articles where "electricity" is meant, which is fallacious because it glosses over trucks and boilers not running on electric power, as you mentioned. The distinction between "clean" and "renewable" is important as well. There's no disputing that renewables are better from a climate perspective, but solar panels alone are estimated to generate anywhere between 35 and 70 million tons of waste panels with current adoption rates by 2050. It'd be difficult and expensive to recycle that. Something similar with wind power (estimated ~40 million tons by 2050) and blades being notoriously hard to recycle. Geothermal is possibly the closest to truly "green" there is, but it's not available everywhere, same with hydroelectric, and would not be able to cover the demand in full. Especially considering that demand keeps increasing, which points to the real, underlying problem, imo. It's a one-size-fits-all solution that would require massive economic resources being funneled into it and a laser focus on it from a political perspective. In this day and age, I don't think either is in ample supply. Fusion's much cooler anyway. And there are no waterfalls or geothermal wells in space.

Renewable energy CAN work if the will is there... mind you, it's still only half and it doesn't account for a fleet of cars that still mostly fossil fuel driven (sorry Tesla) Ironically, Denmark is a net exporter of oil, so it's not like they don't have their own oil supply from the North Sea. https://reneweconomy.com.au/denmark-secured-50-of-its-power-supply-from-wind-and-solar-in-2019/

  14. Hello there, Since it can be hard to figure what summons exactly do and how they scale (especially their weapons and armors), I decide to look directly in the GameData Files to understand how it works. Note that the tables on this thread have not been fully tested (TBH it would have been too long), but I checked several creatures to check if I understood correctly all the principles. There might be a couple of interpration errors, but based on my samples, I am pretty confident with the results. First, the base stats. They work exactly as characters stats : Accuracy and all Defenses get +3 per level and also benefit from Stats (included bonus from items for Summons that copy yourself). Caster level is used to determine the level value except if the creature as a greater intresic leve. For example, Chanter's Animated Weapons have an intresic level of 17, so : - if a level 13 Chanter cast the spell, it will count as level 17, - if a level 18 Chanter cast the spell, it will count as level 18. Thanks @thelee gamefaqs for these explainations : https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/227477-pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire/faqs/76599/non-pl-scaling The only exception is Skeletons summoned from Chanter's Phrase "Many lives..." that don't scale. That's +8 Acc/ all defense, +1PEN/AR if you play in Hard for example. ** Note that this version is based on the same stats / creature as the invocation version but does not scale with the summoner level. However, it is apparently level 5 with +2PEN/AR for some reasons (that's the best approximation I can get). The second part is about the Summons equipment or natural armor / weapons. This is a bit more complicated because there is no universal rule about how they scale. It truly depends on the summons. Some summons get +4 Accuracy, +15% damages and +1PEN every 4 levels beyond 1 (for weapons) and +1AR every 4 levels beyond 1 (for armors). That what is reffered as "nomal scaling" and follow the table in the Gamefaq above. An some simply don't. The following tables give more details about which ones scale and which do not. The game may internally categorizes as "One Handed", but it only means that it brings no further bonus. 1H : Means that the weapon receives the +12 Accuracy bonus as for 1-hander used alone. DW : Means that the weapon sets count as dual wielding (a pair of claws, drake's bite& tail, or a single tentacle all count as Dual Wielding for some reasons). Therefore, it adds -30% Recovery. I might add further explainations later based on your feedback because all these might not be that easy to get. It also explains with numbers why some summons "feel just better than others", especially the deadly Ancient Weapons that basically come with a +16 Accuracy / +4 PEN / +60% damage bonus. You may now that I have modding in mind so don't hesitate to make comments about what you think of the current balance of summons.

  15. Trouble is, some in the US would withdraw from NATO because others aren't pulling their weight, then wonder why Europe doesn't pay any attention to them and won't support them any more and rail about how US influence has dropped without drawing any connection between the two. And the US can always unilaterally reduce military spending, if she wants to. Nobody wants China to be the sole superpower, that's a false dichotomy. It is a potential result of Trump continually taking enormous dumps on former friends and international institutions for naked domestic political purposes though. If people end up actually taking China's side against the US what does that say about the diplomatic abilities of the US? These things don't happen in a vacuum, they happen as a consequence to deliberate US policies. Trump and Pompeo have asterisked off literally everyone who isn't Bibi Netanyahu, many multiple times on multiple issues. The ongoing collapse of US soft power is an inevitable consequence of that. It may play well to elements of the US domestically, but all the extortion, amnerican exceptionalism and unilateralism doesn't play well with anyone outside the US.

  18. Well Offensive Parry is melee and it triggers all the time as long as you are getting attacked (no recovery or anyhing). And of course you can also strike with WotEP in an AoE. For cleanup you can switch to a normal great sword. If you use FoD with Ring of Focused Flames you can switch on the Great Sword modal which does +30% dmg. In combination with FoD-lashes and Zandethus Fury you can achieve good damage. But the bulk ofthe melee dmage comes from Offensive Parry. The good thing is that you can deal melee damage WHILE casting offensive spells. Blood Mage because it's very powerful to be able to spam the most powerful spells more than once or twice. Like Death Ring for example. You can cast it till it's empty and then use Blood Sacrifice to fill it up again while the Steel Garrote's draining (and Exalted Endurance) fill up your health again.

  19. You can also beat Firkraag at level 1 with 2 wands of cloudkill, which only work because they ignore spell resistance as it's not considered a spell. It's not comparable if you can "cheat". I beat the last dragon in ToB by using the epic level traps. Just lure him on top of them and he dies. Well that stuff doesn't happen on table top hahaha. I think you used the same trick because I don't think he attacks you directly if you're outside his aggression circle. Firkraag is pretty darn strong though. If you don't have a cleric in the party and you're not level 20 then it's near impossible if you fight him on equal ground. He has too many hitpoints and I think his heal spell is infinite? It's been a while.

  24. I just finished my second playthrough a couple of days ago, and to certain extent I agree with what you're saying here. The main character is completely irrelevant in Deadfire(*). Eothas does whatever he does no matter what you do. The only thing that you can affect is timing. In other words: Eothas does nothing until you go to the places where he does his things, but once you get there, he always does the same things no matter what you say or do. So, in one sense, everything that's truly interesting about Deadfire (and for me, there's plenty of that) happens completely outside the main storyline. I cannot help but think that this is, in some sense, poor design and poor storytelling. There's no getting around that. (*) It's a bit like Indiana Jones in The Raiders of the Lost Ark. Indy does nothing in the story. He affects absolutely none of it. The Nazis would have found the ark, opened it and died without Indy. Indy is a non-entity in the movie, nothing he does has any effect on anything.

US overseas manufacturing needs had already been expanding beyond china borders before the start o' the trade war in part 'cause o' increasing labor shortfalls in china which will only get worse in the next few years. vietnam and cambodia were already becoming a new nexus for manufacturing which has only accelerated. that said, if not economics but principle were the selling point, then all those US farmers and and other business has paid a heavy price w/o knowing what they were actual fighting for, eh? is not binary. were not trump's trade war or nothing. am agreeing china has been a bad actor for a long time, but the trade war has cost the US billions and hurt businesses most vulnerable. trump had no plan. period. that's should be in quotes. "i have no plan right now, and "i have second thoughts about everything," were quotes from trump last summer. at g7 last year, trump were asked at if he had second thoughts ' bout escalating the trade war with china and his rambling and nonsensical responses were as follows: "Yeah, sure why not. Might as well. Might as well." ... what? and blame WHO, china and pelosi for trump's pandemic slow walking is idiotic as trump had dire warnings, at the latest, in january. did nothing for six weeks After the travel limits. not ban. so trump applauds xi for transparency on january 24 but fails to heed warnings from his own intelligence folks and healthcare experts, and somehow, this is WHO fault? or pelosi? trump played golf and had rallies for a month and a half after credible warnings and signs o' asymptomatic community spread and your excuse is the real nogoodniks is WHO, china and pelosi. deflection.pathetic deflection. yeah, china lied and WHO were not aggressive enough, but pass the buck when trump knew is hardly convincing. raise hand if you were surprised china lied 'bout an emerging pandemic threat? anybody? nobody. nevertheless, trump gets a pass? please. the only thing you mention insofar as trump actions as the reason for a boosted economy is the tax cut and no, the boosted economy won't pay for itself. that were the point 'bout the CBO growth projections post tax cut. to pay for the tax cut woulda' required sustained growth far greater than we were seeing. trump overestimated growth by a whole bunch. Visualizing the huge difference in the White House economic projections versus the CBO’s and Wall Street’s growth rates post tax cut were almost exact what CBO predicted previous to tax cut and far short o' the wh estimates. trump, to sell tax cut, were predicting sustained 4% and that never happened. even before covid-19 there were a big drop-off in 2019 ending at less than 2% in the last quarter with projections o' sub 2% being norm post 2021. trump sold you debt, but don't feel bad, he did same with all his casino investors so you are in good (albeit foolish) company. btw, germany has better than 40% o' its energy needs fulfilled by renewable sources. the US? ~17%. yeah, large cargo ships is gonna continue to be powered by diesel for the foreseeable future, but other nations has made the transition to renewable sources much more effective and efficient than has the US. funny part is much o' the ai tech which makes renewable work elsewhere is pioneered in the US, but then doesn't see use save as oversized science experiments. renewable reduces dependence on foreign oil btw. thought that were obvious. we use oil and coal and gas 'cause current it is cheap and also to continue to support those industries. isn't 'cause renewable cannot replace much o' the current need for petro. and again, these are your High points? lordy. HA! Good Fun!

  29. It also doesn't help with the long talk-info scenes ("Give me Vault Key, now going to talk mission stuff for 3 minutes"). But at least I can finally get cool shots of Meat-Puppet. Worth it.

  31. Thanks a lot Boeroer, it worked fantastically, just as you -very well- explained !! I also got the ArgumentOutOfRange exception, that's why I thought I was doing something wrong. I also looked for the "Nature's Mark" passive/boon but I did not find it, perhaps it is just an addendum/internal game value which is not shown to the player, since it seems it is not shown in the character window (at least this is what one player reported). Anyway, I'm happy now. Thanks again! PS: AeonsLegend, thanks for your reply as well.

  34. nothing supernatural. unlike visual or language arts, music translates to a much better degree regardless o' cultural hardwiring. perhaps more with music than poetry or sculpture or whatnot, the artist emotions is communicated with heightened verisimilitude. whether or not listener is religious is irrelevant 'cause the music conveys the artist's feelings at a fundamental level which ignores a whole lotta cognitive baggage. now for something a bit different... we don't watch fallon, but am a fan o' the roots. questlove playing scissors and flatware were worth the view... and 'course the connect 4 guy were hypnotic. HA! Good Fun!

  35. More than cats, i want a miniature giant space hamster to follow me around like a mascot or at least on my ship! Seriously though i hope MS will give them full support, Obsidian deserves it. Every new piece content will be highly appreciated. Such universe offers almost limitless opportunities in terms of stories to tell, worlds to explore and characters to meet.

  36. As was already said: the limited editing function of the new forum software prevented updates of the build list for quite some time. Afterwards there were two, maybe three new builds and the interest was quite low. So the list would look kind of sad even if it were up-to-date. If you think you can compose a comprehensive list of builds for the current version and are motivated to do so then feel free to open a thread. If you then send a PM to a moderator (e.g. @Amentep) in order to pin the thread then they will usually follow. The old list could get unpinned then and allowed to sink down into the depths of the forum. All builds that were posted so far can still be found via forum search. Nearly all of them use [class build] or [build] in the title so it's easy to filter.

  37. I always use her default one because it gives her 2 spells per level. Like Boeoer said she cannot use Evocation and Illusion spells so she's going to be gimped by any grimoire that has those. Well unless it gives you a spell you really want. But then you could just select that yourself at level up. Sure you could spend all level up points on extra resilience and get more Will and such, but if you use her in a party there are other ways to protect her and you can get more spells to make her more effective. Also, fun note there's a way for Fassina to cast illusion spells. Somewhat. I always give her The Eye of Wael scepter which can cast random illusion spell affliction on enemy and bonus on yourself. Scrolls don't work, but this thing does.

  38. So.... Do that? The 'challenge' is that you don't have a real amulet, don't know what weapon you'll have, don't know if the weapon will be any good because some of them ARE garbage, AND your first action in every fight is lost to gain either a buff you won't care about, a debuff, or possibly a buff you can make use of. That's 2-3 gear slots and precious time lost, because of how you're choosing to use items in the game. It's not meaningless. Besides which, the point is, as stated, less about the difficulty of the run and more about building a character that can work under these restrictions and still contribute significantly. I did also specifically state that it wasn't terribly challenging, just interesting. So instead of being 'that guy', the pedant... You instead managed to be 'that guy', that tries to call someone out on something they already made clear they were aware of and doing intentionally. Nice job? Is that what you were going for? It didn't seem to be.
