  1. @Blunderboss. My understanding was that forums like this are intended for respectful discussion. If you run out of counter-arguments, the cheapest possible response is to get personal: you make no point that anyone cares about, and you just end up looking very silly. Simply leave it, nobody wants to read comments like that.

  2. I find it very amusing that the game is full to the brim of corporate satire and anti-capitalist rhetoric, but it's with the inclusion of LGBT characters that we draw the line and have to call the devs out for "forcing their political agenda". Seriously, what gives?

  4. No offense, but do you actually interact with any number of LGBT people on a regular basis? I mean clearly not (other than some level of "biological mom" interaction). From what I've heard it's basically just the background noise of their life since straight lifestyles are the norm. And anyway, from what I can divine, ever done a romance in an RPG with a lady as a dude that you weren't particularly attracted to, but you could get into the spirit of it? (For me it was that winged elf lady whose name escapes me in BG2). Same deal. Don't project your feelings of mild disgust onto what other people think, especially since you know crap-all about them.

  5. Hi I like the game but it would be even better if these survival restrictions (like food drink sleep) could be available for lower difficulties as well. Survival has got nothing to do with difficulty, imo there's no reason to lock it behind the highest difficulty. - Spacehamster

  7. Definitely if you have gamepass, which is fair enough since it's a subscription and they have to be able to stop you playing when your sub runs out. Might be fairer to say that's games tied to launchers for you. The number of complaints when HL2 launched and Steam soiled the bed were a sight to behold. The only crashes I've had with TOW were related to the xbox pc app- which is by far the worst launcher I've ever used- throwing a fit and refusing to load any saves then crashing the game. At least it was easily fixed by restarting. I also love how it randomly decides I need to sync my saves in the middle of the game, complete with pop up in the middle of the screen telling me that's what it's doing. The game itself is rock steady apart from some very occasional slow downs but the app is the 100% typical MS 2000+ era half arsed product that will probably be abandoned as soon as something distracting comes along. We have listened to the feedback of our valued customers and have decided that our initial policy of charging for every respec is unreasonable. As such we will be rolling the feature out to everyone in our new 'Unleash your Build' dlc available for $20. This allows up to 3 free respecs per account ($2 or 195 snowflakes thereafter). Due to maintenance and the server being upgraded the old exploitative respec feature will be deprecated for those who do not buy the expansion.

  8. I think JE Sawyer literally had a screenshot of that in his post mortem talk. Regardless of what form it took, the fundamental problem was that any ship mini game required a lot of work and custom assets to be done for a part of that game that couldn't be used anywhere else. It was basically wasted time and money. Sounded like it would've been preferred if they just had ship boarding fights and not bothered with the mini-game. But apparently it was a top-down decision to force the ship mini game, and to make it a backer stretch goal, which tied their hands. JE Sawyer called it the most expensive and least value part of Deadfire. To get it right, they needed way more resources, and even if they got it right only a small fraction of players would ever have interacted with it. There was basically no cost-benefit analysis that made the ship mini game in any form worth it. edit - I mean, to be charitable, I thought the ship mini game wasn't bad, it was "serviceable." But I'm pretty sure it's small comfort to the many dev-hours spent on that and bug fixing that even one of their biggest fans thought that it was merely "serviceable."

  9. Yep, I'm aware of this, and you're quite right. Funnily enough, my aversion to and knowledge of the limitations of wikipedia stems precisely from the fact that much of my working life revolves around literature. I have also worked in music, which is another less than stellar topic, when it comes to wikipedia's accuracy.

  14. Tangentially related to an earlier post: 8 in 10 Millennials feel they are "not good enough" Do you know what is annoying about them? They are going through the exact same things as everyone who ever lived before them and in their minds it's the first time it's ever happened to anyone! Now get off my lawn!

  15. I hope not. You don't deserve a refund. Gay people are a fact of existence and you won't play a game because they're in it? Grow the hell up dude.

  16. I will give an example of arbitrary - there's no way to predict if a dot will stack with itself without testing. Some stack, some just refresh their duration while others can't be applied until the first expires.

  17. So around 1 hour mark there is dev commentary and its soul crushing. Mandatory multiplayer overworld maps, no single player offline mode, micro transactions, simplified stats (again?). Rune worlds only consists of 2 runes. (one trigger second effect). Soo sad - game looks great but everything else sounds like big stinking pile of dung

  18. My theory is that Flat Earth Theory, and I'm talking recently, not hundreds of years ago, started as a group of trolls on Reddit, 4chan, or whatever message boards, and more trolls joined in. Then some really gullible people came along (and history has shown again and again that there is no shortage of gullible people) that were not in on the joke and failed to recognize that it was a joke, and they jumped on it. The trolls, recognizing that they had a bite, set the hook and reeled the dumbasses in and the whole thing has taken off from there.

  19. Personally I think in their next game they should make all the companions lgbt+, the ship should double up as a gay bar and every character of the same sex as your character should aggressively hit on you. Make it happen Obsidian.

  20. Tyranny had cooldown mechanics (which I find horrible for several reasons) and also did disappoint - at least the publisher. I agree about the setting, but I wouldn't change the mechanics at all. They are in a good spot. Maybe improve consumables (make them more unique and not copy existing abilites etc.) and untangle the stacking rules. But then focus on story, quests, nice companions and a charismatic antagonist. Put in more exiting items (not necessarily gamebreakingly good, but exiting - I would also like items like trinkets that alter basic class mechanics - like those special passives on Path of Exile do). So basically give all different kinds of players (role-player, interactive novel reader, powergamer etc.) their pet without reinventing the whole wheel again. Don't put any more ressources into the core mechanics. And no minigames...

  23. Honestly was having a great time up until this point. Immediately had a flashback to the elevator bug from Rage 2. Please fix this, might as well be a hard stop if you want Nyoka.

  28. Well you know, it is kind of cruel to not be supportive towards a friend's love life because you don't accept their sexuality. Are you against the game being realistic in that regard?

  29. Bioware released character profiles for the companions in Dragon age Inquisition before release, one of them mentioned that one of the companions was gay. There was a big straight people backlash over that but the game was still apparently their best launch or something and by all accounts did very well. Despite the gays and despite having many flaws. Having lgbt+ characters in a game is not inherently "pushing an agenda". Even when it is there's nothing wrong with that, representation helps straight people get over their hangups. I don't think Obsidian were pushing an agenda and I don't think they didn't mention Parvati's orientation because they were worried about losing sales. I think they just thought the story they wrote would be cute.

  30. If you don't like 21st century values... why are you consuming 21st century media? Shouldn't you be out there fighting the good fight against Women's right to vote or something? Also, people who unironically use "SJW" as an insult really reveal more about themselves than the people they try to insult.

  31. Thank you everyone for your continued reports. We have been working hard to get them into the system for review and we will continue to work on what has been reported and any new bug reports or suggestions you have for The Outer Worlds. As mentioned previously, you can also report anything you post here to our publishing partner, Private Division. They have been busy with gathering more information where needed and adding the reports for review, and we are so grateful for their help in this. You can email them here: support@privatedivision.com. Thank you again, and as we have information regarding any of the reports we are seeing we will share them with you.

  33. I still blame it on the setting (mostly) - although I personally like it. But a lot of RPGamers are a bit conservative when it comes to settings. No idea if that's really the reason though. To me it also felt like Deadfire's marketing was nearly non-existent.

  36. I agree. I haven't been able to progress through the story because I cannot give Nyoka the Caffeine Pills that I got from Abigail Edwards. I hope they patch this soon as I don't want to move forward without adding her to my party.

  38. I thought I was going crazy, good to see (I guess) that other people have this problem too. I even found the woman who sells the pills and there was no dialogue option to talk to her about the quest. I walked to the next room and picked the lock to get to the storage room, stole the pills I needed and the dialogue options would still not change, and I still can not progress with this main quest...quite a shame as it was going so well up until this point.

  39. I have just had an email from Private Division support about the Parvati bug, reply may be useful: "I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered a bug where your companion has been marked as dead in the quest log, despite them still being alive. From what we've discovered, this bug can happen when your companion is climbing a ladder while you start a conversation with an NPC. This causes the companion to continue climbing the ladder forever, and then meet an untimely death when the conversation with the NPC ends. Make sure that your companions are not climbing any ladders before you enter a conversation and this should hopefully prevent this bug from happening to you again until this bug has been resolved. Please note that we currently do not have an ETA as to when this issue will be fixed, but we are actively looking into it. Sorry for the trouble, and please let me know if you run into any other issues. "

  41. I could have used New Vegas as the benchmark for main quest time, but that would have made Outer Worlds look even worse since it's longer. Not sure what more you need to understand about me not comparing writing here. Outer Worlds is short, compared to ANY game Obsidian themselves have done. There, does that make you happier?

  42. Oh I'm sorry, did you not realize Outer Worlds is a giant fetch quest?

  43. You can try to invalidate my fact with your opinion but that doesn't make this game any better or longer. It's a mediocre RPG that won't stand the test of time like those "turds".
