Creatures in Project Eternity
Gyges replied to TRX850's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Lovecraftian/The Thing-like creature, formless mass of flesh gone insane. Compounds its considerable mass, growing skin and emulating bone to imitate people. Picture a bunch of skinless tentacles, mouths and eyes going at you, exploding out of what you thought was a lost child. Hope you've got a torch and a barrel of oil or a sorcerer with you. -
Dragon In Eternity ?
Gyges replied to Ulquiorra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think when it comes to really horrifying creatures we dont need to do much more than change up the human form enough so that it looks like us, but is still clearly not. Body-horror should really have seen much more use in the creature department. You can stretch your imagination as far as you can but nothing terrifies us more than -
Oh come on! Oghren was a laugh with his drunken tirades, his utter lack of social graces and anything resembling hygiene. Besides that, what made him funny was that he stuck out among his kind exactly because he acted so much as what we perceive to be the stereotypical dwarf.

I am pleased with this. I do hope the next race will be less familiar in appearance though. The kossith of the qunari are one of the more interesting races to have come out of a new ip in recent years, as an example.

Looks gewd. Whatever you figure out is best i hope it opens up for a lot of theorycrafting for those who are willing to put in the brainpower to create real beasts. Nothing like carefully sharpening your skills, stats and gear into a cutting edge. Also hoping for a preview of combat animations in the near future, a topic that needs more attention and love. It will determine whether combat will be trite intermission or a big reason we replay the game for the 10th time.

Love Bloodlines, its definitely up there with the best games the last decade. Will combat animations in P:E be realistic or more fantastic? A balance between the two would be most welcome. There is a certain lasting appeal to some animations that never allows combat to turn tedious, loot based arpg's are particularly known for it.

Death animations and finishing moves
Gyges replied to Jarmo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Attacks need that "oomph" to it. You all know what I'm talking about, that sound or animation that makes kill #1000 just as good as the first. -

Like I said before, the only way Main Character death would work in a game like this was if it was highly scripted and intended from day one. Example, Crono dying in Chrono Trigger only to be brought back to life later. Or in Mask of the Betrayer. But yes, needs to be scripted. Dont waste money on it if its not part of the story. People may die so often it might just become an annoyingly long death-screen for some.

It would be very interesting to see it implemented in the story. You die, mid story, only to claw yourself out of hell to the mortal realm again to continue the story in a world changed by your absence and the dissolution of your team in the wake of your death. Because thats how awesome you are. Also, their reaction when you come visit to drag their lazy asses out of inaction would be priceless.

Really appreciate this, heres hoping there will be plenty of weapon types to pick from. So tired of noone recognizing the merit of non-sword/axe weapon types. Give me a halberd any day.

Update #34: FIRST ART UPDATE
Gyges replied to Adam Brennecke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Thanks. Glad you like it. The model in the scene is the same model in the image above (with different textures and a different weapon, obviously). We want the level of detail in the game models to be high enough that we can use the same model for the inventory screen "paper dolls" with a slightly magnified view. Hmmm.. while you're here.... Will there be a chance to pick your brains with a pneumatic drill anytime soon? Is anyone planning to interview you in a similar fashion?- 286 replies

How about a Primordial Wyrm that moves in the furthest reaches beneath the earth, colossal in length and girth. Say you go particularly deep into a vast labyrinth of caverns and just happen upon a wall, not of stone, but of skin and muscles. A single fraction of its body, particularly close to the surface. That would be pretty interesting lore-vise. I'm thinking a subterranean version of the midgard-serpent, or rather a blend of it and the wyrm that gnaws at the roots of yggdrasil the world-tree (tree that connects all worlds, so called axis-mundi), Nidhoggr. It can signify the slow change of the landscape. When it moves close to the surface it triggers minor earthquakes but can at times cause great disasters whenever it moves in geologically vulnerable areas or is somehow getting aggressive. Never liked human-sized gods. If it isnt impressive to mere mortal eyes then why call it a god? When i try to create deities for my rp-world, i always scale their looks to their abilities, age and role in the world and try to make it symbolize them as well. Good example for unimpressive gods is the elder scrolls ones. I would whoop their asses. A good one i can remember and is related to IE? Mask of the betrayer, the former god of death, who's corpse you have stand on to talk to. Speaking of death, the show Supernatural had a good one inspired by Neil Gaiman, he isnt as much a god as a constant of existence personalized. I particularly remember a scene where for the first time i can remember, Dean (the badass, shoot first ask questions etc..) who has faced all kinds of monsters and even the devil, is quite obviously nervous or even afraid when he sits down along with death. I'm a big fan of cosmic horror/awe when making some of the higher brass of the pantheon.

Ask me about monsters and i have four pages of 12-sized font on a very special type i created over the course of a few months for a rp-world. It has inspiration from everywhere but mostly from my field as a biotech.

Only if they actually make them not just humans-with-fur-and-animal-faces. Because its uncreative and cant be done properly without removing them further away from the bipedal human wannabe. ALSO:

I'm more of a vodka man. Although I don't drink much at all anymore. I'll settle for a few beers. But if I had to sit around all days programming, I'd drink a lot too. (Had to do a bit of programming at university some years ago, but did not find it fun. I had more fun with 3D modelling.) While were on it, you've got another vodka man here. Grey Goose and Beluga are the favorites with GG taking the first spot. I usually mix up something weird with lower tiers of vodka, but the good ones go down bare. Also, yes. Gotto ask Sawyer what hes planning with weapon and armor variety. I found Dark Souls doing particularly good on this, with multiple, nearly perfectly balanced sets of end-game armors. Low variation in base weapon damage also made us consider other factors when building our character, such as stat scaling, unique abilities, weight, speed, moveset and elemental effects. This made for a huge variation of offensive styles to be available.

Considering your involvement in so many canceled projects, do you believe you are entirely to blame for their failure? Are you a saboteur? Look at my sig, now look at my post, now look at my sig again, now back to my post. Can you see i want a variety of weapons? I want a variety of weapons.

Update #31: Enter the Story Zone
Gyges replied to Adam Brennecke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
You're alone here. I want to see how they make games too. These last two updates have been great! And them talking about it gives us the players a chance to give our input too. If they just tell us everything after it's been set, then we can't really talk about what inspires us. Hell no! This time, theres one line of communication, the one between the studio and us. Sure, we don't really have that much power over the project, but because they update so frequently, they can quicker hear our reactions to aspects of the game they are considering to implement.- 83 replies

QFT The hair i really dont like because...well, i dont like being reminded of my own eventual faith. And it does look silly. Tie it up in the back and cut some weird symbols on the side and youve got a winner. -

PE will fail without this!

Shows how much average level has plunged since life got easy in the west. I say we take the fight to north korea wearing only grizzly-bear underwear, deflecting bullets with our beards and fists.
