The Big Three Million
Gyges replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Lots of people put a lot of money on Wasteland 2, DFA and Shadowrun. Now they are "broke" and can't really push higher for PE. Wasteland average per backers is $48, PE right now is at $45 (it keep going up though). There are already people who removed their PE pledge because they don't have the money. I saw a dude at the $35 level doing so. and I still don't understand how DFA got over 80k backers... It was the first real big-name project. Lots of people probably pledged because they were also supporting a cause. -

Iv'e been saying they need to put something really awesome up so we can make a massive reach for it. Im willing to upgrade even further from 140$ if its something really good. But obsidian isnt taking a hint. I can see there will be other stretchgoals by looking at the "road so far" art on the front page, hopefully that mountain means there is something big coming up. If a developer is reading this DO NOT MAKE THE INTERVAL A MEASLY 100K!! If you do, people are going to go "meh, its not so far away, you'll make it without me". Instead give us something to panic over like "Breadth and depth of game exceeds Baldurs Gate and Planescape: Torment at 3,2 million". Everyone will go: OHSHIIIII!! IF I DONT PLEDGE MORE WE WILL NEVER REACH IT!! COME ON WALLET, BRAAACE FOR IMPAACT! I hope that illustrates my point. We know what we get when you compare it to BG, IWD or PT. Not to say the mega-dungeon and new classes arent awesome of course. But they dont paint the walls with my mind either. -

It looks a bit grim to tell the truth, 3 million seems far off without a really powerful motivator. Is the bioware community aware of the project? -
Haha, i think a lot of people seem to have voted for most of the choices. We all want this game to challenge us with issues that we face in the real world but are often powerless to do anything about. The escapism of it is that in the game, we have the means to act towards these issues in a way that lets us make a real impact on them, permanent or not. Of course, current-day political issues can take a hike, but i would like to see moral and humanistic ones be a set-piece here. Not good vs evil, but consequences.

I'd like to reiterate my desire for Classical guitar. I know it might not be possible, but how many actual instruments will you guys use? Guitar holds a special place for me, no question. I started playing when I was 13, and I later dedicated about seven years of my life studying classical guitar performance. I've performed solo, in a quartet, and with chamber orchestras... It was amazing and I wish I had time to do that more. So yes, I'd love to figure out a way to weave guitar in. I miss playing in a quartet most of all....... No way! I love FF music, it's great. Talk about memorable. The opening music for FFIII (VI, whatever) is so evocative. Even today when I hear that music I'm reminded of playing through the game. Funny story, one of the cues that I was writing for PE's trailer ended up sounding VERY FF. It was good, just didn't fit so I abandoned it. 50 minutes seems to be a bit short for a game of this scope. Would it be feasible do you think for an expanded soundtrack to be set as a stretch goal? (subject to Mr Bell's concurrence, of course). Agreed. Let me put it this way: someone is going to have to come in and say "Dude! NO MORE MUSIC ALREADY!" Heh. So 50 is a good estimate I guess? Impossible to say at this stage, though I'm keen on putting as much music in as the game needs. Has anyone every played Castlevania: Lords of Shadow? Amazing game btw, if you haven't played it, give it a shot. Anyhow, the music in that game was reused quite a lot. But it didn't have the effect you might imagine. Instead of sounding repetitive, it sounded more "cohesive", if that makes sense. Brilliant work, really. Great that you are enthusiastic, heres hoping its gonna be the kind of music people will listen to longer than they actually play the game . Any composers you draw inspiration from?

I'd like to see them as more enlightened men and women, but in a pragmatic way that allows them the morals to go out in the world to decrease the amount of suffering by way of their fists.

I hate to be that guy and it's probably just the sepia-coloring, but i feel like these concept arts epitomize generic fantasy in the negative, unimaginative way. The pictures just feel bland. But like i said, i probably feel like that because of the lack of color. These aren't finished ideas yet anyway as far as i understand what concept art means. It would just be sad if the characters had great depth but lacked personality in appearance.

Way of the Open Palm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKb0XO33DF8 Another favorite composer of mine is Akira Yamaoka. His dark and twisted music had a symbiotic relationship with the Silent Hill series that is unmatched to this day. There are better tunes than this one, but you have to wonder what kind of music you have to play when the protagonist is fighting the forcibly born, half-developed fetus of god. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeDqM2qQJis BTW, really liked the first and second song you posted.

Good music pretty much makes 50% of the atmosphere in the game. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey had this dark theme that showed you and your teams heading towards your first goal. It was incredibly ominous and felt like it foreshadowed a dark and difficult path ahead, one that wouldn't necessarily end in your favor. The rest of the soundtrack was in a similar vein, with adaptions to environment and situation, it always made you feel like you were in a broken world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLQUxXrucW8&feature=plcp Many (but not me) would say Jade Empire wasn't among Bioware's greatest games, but it probably had the best soundtrack. Jack Wall did an incredible job with it, catching the fantastical Chinese empire in sound, among the best of the songs in the Open Palm Theme and Anthem of the Tyrant.

Godslayers?
Gyges replied to Badmojo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm an atheist myself, and i loathe the state of today's religions, but personally i would rather like to explore the roles and characters of gods as we did in Mask of the Betrayer a bit more. It was fun being snarky with Death. -
Generic fantasy setting?

As long as it isnt high fantasy. Mature themes pretty much excludes that. -

I think discrimination should be included in some dialogue, just so you can bash in their faces for it.
