  2. That's crazy! I don't think it means Obsidian gets another Fallout game. I'm not entirely sure what is means for them. It was kind of nice that they were really the main RPG studio in the Microsoft portfolio. What happens when the next Elder Scrolls game is compared to Avowed? Outer Worlds compared to Fallout? I mean, I'm happy to see both studios putting out games, but I'm worried from a business perspective the underperformer will be in trouble.

Not outcomes dicated by dumb f--k voters who don't know that everything on social media should be presumed false until proven otherwise.

  7. oh yeah, this one: i'm not very familiar with mods and generally don't use them. i'm like the worst person to ask. i do know that there has been some "full AI scripting" mod or two out there that greatly expands what one is capable of. In some of my more frustrated moments, this is the mod I most contemplate actually installing. (In the past I've used a few bug fixing mods.) I actually don't know about achievement-disabling. Normally I care about this a lot, even if i have all achievements, because it suggests to me I'm doing something I shouldn't :). But I clearly didn't have much of a problem of using a few bug fixing mods in the past. So maybe not. Again, I'm like the worst person to ask on this front

  8. i don't have much experience with scripting the attack command, i think the biggest risk here is that there's no way to do a delay, so assuming that this is a "always true" conditional, what could happen is that you do smoke, then you trigger an attack, but before your character has a chance to do an attack, another smoke is triggered, and then you do an attack. i honestly don't know. this is something that i think you basically have to test yourself to see if it works. if it works, great. if it doesn't, maybe you could gate #4 and #5 on having a target with <100% health (which would happen after 2 and 3, assuming this all happens at the start of a fight). probably i would choose different priorities for the target, e.g. nearest target, lowest health, lowest fortitude, hoping that they apply to different enemies. you could also try "best threat" or whatever that is, that might be semi-smart targeting.
    2 points
  9. ok, i've been busy at work so i can't really test this in-game, but after some reflection, here's my best explanation that is consistent with what i've done in the past. i think what happens is that the game is checking all the conditionals in order of priority (so if a conditional is "target" it is looking at all possible targets, ally or enemy). if a block matches a conditional, it evaluates each ability in order, and passes it a list of targets that met the conditional, filtered by target type, and ordered by priority. The only exception is "target type: self" which always passes the target check targeting yourself. so here's an example, semi-nonsensical block (using my own conditional to be illustrative): conditional: target health < 50% cooldown: 10s abilities: cast:Restore, target type: ally or self, prioritize by: lowest health cast:Holy Radiance, target type:self, prioritize by: lowest health cast:Divine Mark, target type: enemy, prioritize by: highest health so if in a fight, let's say some silly enemy casts delayed fireball, and it explodes and puts enemies A into near death and B into bloodied and party members Xoti into near death, Eder into bloodied, but You are still healthy. The game checks the conditional and gets a list of targets, e.g. [A, B, Xoti, Eder]. Because it has a non-zero number of targets, it moves to the abilities list. It checks against ability #1 and sees whether anything is possible. Restore gets as valid targets ordered in priority [Xoti, Eder]. so it'd cast restore on xoti. Let's say you don't have a restore available. It moves to ability #2 and sees whether anything is possible. Now you get Holy Radiance cast on self, which always has a valid target, so you'd get Holy Radiance cast (even though you're healthy). Let's say you already have Holy Radiance used. Then you get the final slot, which is Divine Mark cast on [B, A] in order, which would mean Divine Mark cast on B. So I believe you're right in the sense that the meaning of "target (not) <50%" changes from ability to ability, but really what's happening is that the game tosses a list of *all* possible targets to the ability, and the ability target type and ordering is responsible for filtering it down to a non-empty list (and if it's empty, the ability is skipped, unless it's target:self targeting). Ordinarily we're not mixing ally/self target types and enemy target types in the ability lists so this ambiguity doesn't frequently crop up. So for your example, I think what that means is that you would use Smoke/Invisible as soon as any target exists with {not} <50% health, regardless of what your own health is. If you don't have smoke/invis avilable, then you would shoot you arquebus at one of the targets with {not} less than 50% health, prioritized by your priority selection. This is my best guess, consistent with how I've used scripting in the past. Notably IIRC the default priest-cautious scripts hae two separate healing blocks, one that conditions on target health, and another on self health, simply because of how generous the self-targeting spell cast rules are, so either the default scripts (or the copy-edits I made, I forget which) want to make sure you're not just casting e.g. consecrated ground when you're out of range of anyone who's actually hurt. edit: this would explain why my wizard script of "target: is spellcaster -> cast arcane reflection" is basically equivalent to "always true -> cast arcane reflection". from the perspective of the game my party always has a spellcaster (the wizard) and there's nothing in the ability list to further filter to enemies only, only a self-cast that is always valid.

If Avowed Skyrim game in a way Falllout:NV was Fallout3 then I think both will find their own audiences with a healthy overlap. Even so, who knows what Bethesda wants to do - for the last couple titles they have been departing further and further from what I would expect “Bethesda” game to be.

  13. hm, i don't think this is possible. the only movement restriction that appears by default is the "can break engagement or not" checkbox. oof, that is a very good question. i think the conditional is sort of a poor-abstraction as to what's going on behind the scenes, because sometimes it just doesn't make sense. I think what happens is much closer to your last statement. E.G. if the block is "target health < 50" and you have as action 1. "restore target: self" and action 2 "divine mark, target: enemy, prioritize by: lowest deflection" with cooldown 10s. the fact that the two share the same conditional is meaningless - I think the UI grouping is a) purely a logical grouping for the user; b) to make it easier to gate common effects by a common cooldown and action priority. in practice, I suspect what ends up happening in the back end is that you create an action with UUID-1 "look at [target:self]; if [target:self].health < 50%, cast restore, activate cooldown TIMER-1" and then a second action UUID-2 "only if TIMER-1 not activated; look at [target:any enemy]; if [target:any enemy].health < 50%, add to [a list of targets]; choose target form [a list of targets] with [lowest deflection]. cast divine mark. activate cooldown TIMER-1." i think in cases where you add a non-targeted ability to a block that has a target (e.g. if in that same target health < 50 or whatever, you also added a "weapon switch" action), it effectively turns into a "always true" conditional, that just happens to share a logical group and cooldown timer with others that have actually have a relevant conditional. i think this could easily be tested more, but that's my best educated guess. edit: i crossed this all out, because upon reflection it contradicts something else i've been able to do with conditionals. i have to think about this more. it's one attack. red hand's 2 shot before reload is rare enough that i suspect you might hit bugs if you try to script anything special about its behavior. no, unfortunately, this is really only possible with inspirations/afflictions where you can negate a conditional about their existence. sometimes you can do "best target/threat" and that randomize a bit, or you can add a target priority that will have lots of ties and hope for a semi-random selection, but in situations like this I just effectively use an AI script to take care of hte first target for me, and then I have to micromanage successive targets (like with a long cooldown or a particularly restrictive conditional). get a mod?

  15. Oro is great and I always appreciate his perspective. He has made it very clear where he is coming from and why.
    2 points
  16. actually, we specific noted you and oro were hopeless causes. am not least interested in your opinion 'cause is nothing more than the mindless doggerel the alt-right echo box continues to vomit forth. your responses is however illustrative o' why we do not care 'bout your opinions... well that and the irrationality and self-contradictory nonsense. attributing skarp_one description o' blm protester motivations to the protesters as a whole? *chuckle* nope. is precise why the government don't get to define or ascribe motivations. heck, as already noted earlier in the thread, blm has never been able to win trademark recognition 'cause there is no singular and recognizable blm. is gonna be considerable variation o' protester motivation, but am suspecting almost none agree with skarp_one characterization. nevertheless, skarp_one's imagined description o' blm motivations should be meaningful? sure ain't meaningful to us as. you don't matter. oh, and another reading comprehension fail. we specific said your focus on the illegal behaviour o' the protesters is flawed. we pointed out how you failed to recognize the illegal actions o' the government. playing ostrich doesn't mean Gromnir needs ignore the genuine pivotal issue. in spite o' your earlier denials, both hk protesters and blm has resorted to violence. skarp_one fail from the get go. furthermore, am as disinterested now as previous in having a stephen miller wannabe explain to us how swell is the folks in hong kong and how vile is blm protesters. however, "other folks at least claim to be motivated by conscience, and bruce should have the extreme real example o' how the apartheid government o' sa used brutality under the guise o' law and order to suppress protesters and dissent." am genuine curious 'bout the self described conservatives o' conscience and others who manage to sympathize with the lawless and often violent protests in hong kong, but somehow see the blm protests as an existential threat. the only reason we got any interest whatsoever in continuing to discuss with skarp_one his venomous pov o' the blm protests is in hope one o' those conservatives o' conscience will have the courage to step forward and either agree with you or reject. instead, we get silence from the conscience while oro and skarp drone on 'bout the chinese hegemony and leftist shills and whatnot. @Guard Dog have explained multiple times what we think were wrong in citizens united. the Court weaponized free speech in a way we thought were dangerous. commercial speech has always receive less protection than full first amendment would afford a person. the transactional nature o' commercial speech meant that selling soap on tv were viewed different than advocating for a candidate running for office. pacs is no less transactional than is tv soap commercials, and corporations should not be seen as having same fundamental rights as people. a corporation cannot run for office, but the reasoning o' citizens united makes one wonder why such is not possible. here is the part @Amentep may or may not be aware and is the reason we were conflicted 'bout the ruling-- buckley v. valeo had previous removed the limit on individual contributions to pacs. buckley were way back in 1976 which decided pac spending by individuals were a free speech issue and individual limits were unconstitutional. so, sooper rich folks could contribute unlimited money to a pac, just as long as the pac were at leas s'posed not dedicated to financing a specific candidate/campaign. utter bs, but that were the law. the Court in citizens united said it were unfair that pacs so favored the wealthy contributor. the Court opened the door to small investors banding together to make contributions on par with wealthy voters. sounds fair, no? 'course the reasoning o' the Court complete ignored the reality o' pacs and the threat o' hidden foreign investment and a whole host o' other issues. scalia wrote a nineteen page dissent in mcconnell which chided the Court for ignoring a few realities such as how soft money favored incumbents by a better than 3:1 margin. nevertheless, he went along with the majority in citizens united, albeit with a concurrence which were less than enthusiastic. citizens united were required 'cause the Court so bungled the issue in mcconnell v. fec. the problem is the Court addressed the wrong issue. pacs and corporations is not people for purposes o' elections or election contributions. to frame as a fairness question were misguided. https://www.nytimes.com/video/obituaries/100000003489698/john-paul-stevens-obituary.html we should all weep for the mistakes made by the citizens united court. mccain-feingold might' been the most important election related legislation evar, and the Court killed it. shame. HA! Good Fun!

  19. Please tell me you are not serious. His name was the only one on the ballot. Although I do find it ironic how the Democrats decry the "death of democracy" while vigorously litigating to keep the Green Party candidates off the ballot. Since the 1960 election negative campaign ads have been a thing. On TV, on radio, hell in newspapers it's been going on since BEFORE the revolution. In fact if you want to know how nasty tings got google the guy in Gromnir's avatar picture. Negative ads range from being true (but usually without context) to laughably false and are paid for by the candidates of pacs that support them. Now it's being done on social media by foreign actors. But what is the difference? Voters are boing manipulated? Voters are getting false info? So what? Where have you been? This isn't new. Just new rats in the same old sewer. If people of voting age haven't learned by now to take everything on social media with a grain (more like a boulder) of salt then we all screwed anyway. 20. I got confused as on a one hand you say that there is some great problem with democracy, because people can target adds to the demographics they want to vote for them and that somehow dishonest adds now have some more negative impact than dishonest adds of the past - add control, then on the other hand you want equal time rule. The only thing that changed is that you can have better information on where your potential audience is. I would agree that social media should change their platform crap and be held responsible, if they have editorial process and decide what you should see and what you should not see (and there was no court order to remove something) . I would not change that though, if they would indeed remain a platform and just give the place for others to speak and then the authors of the content should be liable for any "offense" in a civil court

  21. add to the file o' news which should shock nobody. HSBC Escapes Prosecution as U.S. Ends 5-Year Deferred Deal Justice Department Announces Deferred Prosecution Agreement with HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) SA Gangster Bankers: Too Big to Jail got these record setting fines, which amounts to a functional wink and a nod given what hsbc makes in a year, fines which is evential paid for by hsbc customers. no criminal prosecutions. as an aside, deutsche bank and jp morgan is also 'mongst the possible nogoodniks mentioned in icij report. am stressing "possible" 'cause this is a classic smoke w/o fire situation. the manner in which the baks handled and seeming manipulated their sars responsibilities is enough to make any reasonable person suspicious, but isn't conclusive proof. however, gotta be kinda obtuse not to be suspicious and concerned. am not thinking it is fair to generalize in such a way. however, we do agree his past posts regarding totalitarian government responses, as well as his frequent indifference to state actions to limit liberties of citizens, were representing an unfortunate trend. is why we specific said we were not overly surprised but were disappointed. nevertheless, to make broad generalizations based on a person's race, national origin and occupation is, at the very least, unfair. make assumptions 'bout a woman latino judge from the US? am talking J. sotomayor or trumps' appointee candidate, barbara lagoa? both catholic and children o' immigrant parents. that said, am thinking bruce deserves a chance to respond as 'posed to need fight stereotype. @BruceVC will once again appeal to you to consider that the US federal government, which already has overwhelming advantages o' resources and law when dealing with groups and individual protesters, nevertheless resorted to overt illegal and unconstitutional means to suppress protesters in multiple american cities. those arrested by unnamed fed police is frequent denied due process. sedition laws do NOT apply to local protesters asking for a mayor to resign, and it is patent unconstitutional for the fed to send troops to states and cities where they has not been welcomed either the governor or the legislature. if the US government can't deal with protesters w/o routine breaking its own rules, we suggest there is cause for concern and more than a little suspicion. am not suggesting protesters is always right. we has even criticized blm for making it too easy for fox and trump to create a false narrative. even so, if the federal government is consistent violating its own traditions, rules and laws to bring about law and order, am thinking even bruce would have cause to be suspicious o' the suppression o' protests. you, more than many o' us here, do not need set the wayback machine to the 1950s thru early 70s to be recalling the last time we had lasting protests in multiple major us cities for an extended period o' time. civil rights and vietnam war protesters were not popular with the public at large at the time. nevertheless, for most americans, this is the stuff o' movies, grain black & white news footage, and snippets from a high school textbook. you should be acute aware o' the advantages a government has in framing the narrative regarding protests. not all protests is worthy o' sympathy. violence is never ok; am talking to all you closeted antifa supporters. setting fires to property is almost never a good look. etc. nevertheless, where the Government is routine breaking its own rules and laws to suppress protests, am thinking there is a duty to serious consider the possibility that the villains is not blm and other such groups. HA! Good Fun! ps is effective a response to the most recent bruce post.

Right now they hold so few. 3 - Pallets that allow construction of walls/etc directly from the bed. This would give them an actual purpose outside of just aesthetic, since laying weeds/grass directly on the ground works just as well currently.

Some even talk of moving very far away and staying remote etc. Sadly hubby can't do that easily (or I'd be all for leaving the Bay Area), he still has to go in now and again to do physical/non-remote work. Unless he wants to fly or long-drive/hotel-overnight a couple times a month perhaps. Which I'm sure he doesn't (I wouldn't either). Today I ate a big lunch, took a walk, gazed at the internet. It's less convenient but it's a lot easier to absorb what everyone else is working on, who they were talking to and picking up bits and pieces here and there. We interact a lot on Teams but that's not nearly the same. Well and the other two guys have the video conference discipline of five year olds. The absolute highlight last week was a short talk where one of them went to make himself a coffee on a frickin' freight train (or at least it sounded like freight train running through my eardrums) and the other one had his mic attached to his shirt. Which would be okay if that thing had any noise cancellation, but it doesn't, so it was a litany of rhasping sounds whenever he moved. Which.was.all.the.god.damned.time. It's occasionally hilarious too. Like Friday when one of the guys got told off by his wife for making too much noise. She just showed up and talked to him like he's a retarded five year old. Ugh. Might as well tell a Bavarian he's German and wait for the reply. It's going to be similar. You stay in Lech, one of the most ridiculous overpriced touristy trap locations you could potentially find on the planet and think Switzerland is overpriced? Heh. Okay. Why not. Sure Switzerland is more expensive overall, but Lech is not a budget destination. Not by a long shot. But no, I don't ski or snowboard. I did once, a long time ago, because our schools always had a week of skiing in winter and a week of hiking in spring/early summer as part of our curriculum, but then I had basic military training during the coldest winter of the past thirty years (-20° and heavy snow) and now I stay as far away from that hellish white stuff as I possibly can. We can discuss whatever you like. How about a fun little fact: Most years the most criminal group of migrants in Austria are actually... Germans. Even though they're by not the largest group of immigrants (not that there's that much of an overlap, you can just cross the border after all). They're sometimes beaten by Romanians. Yet when our politicians talk about importing crime through migration we're usually talking about Turks, or Afghans... sometimes Chechnyans. Oh, and people from Morocco, they're like all thieves for some reason. But since this is the political thread, you'd be in luck if you'd live here and have citizenship, you could vote for an actual successor party of the NSDAP and let out that inner facist of yours.
