After spending many hours playing the open beta, my brother and I decided to do our first 1.0 run on Whoa! difficulty. It was a challenge at first, which was great because that's what we were looking for with this playthrough. However, as we've hit end-game in the upper yard with all our gear at 7+ we've come to a disappointing realization: maxed out equipment is not enough to make combat against the "hardest" enemies a tedious slog to burn through huge hp bars. Some of the boss fights have more mechanics and thus are still quite fun (Asst. Manager and the Director spring to mind) but most are just an exercise in perfect blocking predictable attacks, chugging beefy smoothies, and watching huge hitbars slowly chip away unless you optimize your build. Throughout the playthrough, we've relied on the wiki for details on what exactly armor and weapon perks actually do because the game only provides vague descriptions and useless bars. Optimizing our damage to speed up slow encounters would have been impossible without players data mining game files. Now in the latest patch, a handful of nerfs were dealt to some of the strongest end-game builds (poison and staffs) with the clear intention of maintaining combat difficulty in the end-game. On principle that's a fine design goal; grounded isn't a power fantasy it's a survival game. However, if devs are determined to keep combat challenging, it is only fair that players be provided with the necessary knowledge to overcome those challenges within the game's UI. It's not enough to know a perk activates "occasionally," we need exact percentages in the item description. It's not enough to know an item does 10 bars of damage and has 3 bars of speed. We need actual double-digit numbers to understand a weapon's strengths and weaknesses. It's not enough to know a trait debuffs an enemy's attack, we need to know not only the numeric value of that debuff, but also its duration. It is unfair to the player base that gear is nerfed and enemies are buffed while not providing concrete numbers on the tools given to defeat those challenges. If the developers want item info and UI elements that are minimalistic and immersive, then players should feel powerful no matter what weapons they choose because it's not about the details, it's about the fantasy. But if the devs want the players to struggle to survive throughout the full duration of the game, then they owe their players specific game mechanic data so we can work towards more optimal builds. We shouldn't have to rely on data mining wikis (which are frequently out of date and thus false) to build strong strategies. That info needs to be in the game itself, lest the whole game feel like a battle with the developers instead of the backyard.2 points

The West is certainly not perfect, but the big difference is you can complain about the Western countries while living in those Western Countries and not get arrested by the Western governments. It's a pretty big difference. Also, habeas corpus.2 points

It can totally work but if you want to use dagger its better if you use the community patch and the balance polishing mod. In vanilla game, backstab is good with hight base damage weapon only (2h, and especially arquebuse). I would then multi with a monk for swift furry, lash, and bonus might/pen. You can also use your fist roleplaying your mc as a neck breaker from shadows.2 points

But that's not true. It is true that "the West" uses its domineering position in ways that are very questionable indeed, but this only pertains to certain aspects of life, society, economics and politics -- it's not even close to "dictating to every other country how their citizens should be living". You may see this as nitpicking but I do seriously think that precision with language is valuable.2 points

This, coupled with a remarkably flippant attitude on Saudis dismembering journalists, gives an impression of a particularly wholesome soul.2 points

I wonder how the "West" slid into the position of dictating to every other country how their citizens should be living? I guess might makes right? We'll just bury them economically or through force until they do what we want. Sucks to be them, Im glad I live in the powerful side.2 points

Here's a link for the story on Iranian foreign minister's statement on Iranian drones in Ukraine: https://www.reuters.com/world/iran-says-it-will-not-remain-indifferent-if-proven-russia-uses-its-drones-2022-10-24/ I think the main reason for the spin is that preexisting UN arms sanctions on Iran would be violated by any Iranian arms shipments to Russia that are used in a conflict.2 points

An interested turn of events. Iranian minister of foreign affairs (Hosein Amir Abdollahian) has released statement, that if there will be clear evidence, that Russia uses their drones against civilian targets, they will no longer be neutral. Of course, they are still saying, that they do not supply Russia with them, but on the other hand, the defence cooperation between Iran and Russia will continue. Looks like they are learning from Russia, how to spin stuff… For me this statement is really very hard to believe…2 points

Because I value this place for something, which would most likely cause me a lot of grief in other places. I can write in almost unfiltered way, with all the emotions attached. If you think this language is not professional, you'd never want to see what happens on various Bloomberg chats between trading desks or trading and analytics. The ZH is not a 'source' as in it does not shape my views. I use it to reference to views sourced from some other authors (people still make the same mistake of not recognizing what is a ZH article and what is an 'authored' article sourced from some other place) . It also contains charts in daily summaries or related topics that I could not share from my resources as screens etc. , for example some Bloomberg or Refinitiv data based views. On ZH you are also more likely to read opinions which are contrarian to main media sources, and that in itself is a value. The hedge funds world works on various contrarian scenarios. ( watch The Big Short for example to view a simplified and sterilized view of some of the things people do in funds) . I've called on inflation and asset buble in 2021, I've called on the social and economic costs of excessive sanctions on a commoditty giant, I've called on a debt crisis and credit panic, which in near term will lead to stagflation as central banks will throw in a towel on inflation fight as the costs of recession and issues with soverign debt will amplify. I rarely point to a gold bug like Peter Shiff, but read some of his publicized estimates on debt service costs in US, should the high rates persist. You've already witnessed first hand recently what UK suffered in relation to debt issues. On the UA front, just give it more time. The support will start to wane by the end of the year and will drop significantly by the end of Q1 2023. There will be a lot more domestic social issues to solve in EU and US. China might soon pounce on Taiwan too. Even read something on main media on this, after the recent Xi reelection. Markets certainly decided to bail at the moment. Some funds are risking to go back in now, with hopes of stabilization, but here I'm more pesimistic after the recent 'chip bans' from US. Lets see if Xi will make German channcelor squirm during his visit and take back what he voiced in Japan.1 point

"if Men were angels, no government would be necessary. if angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. in framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and the next place, oblige it to control itself." -- James Madison, federalist papers 51 james missed something important. so long as political systems is managed or designed by humans, they is gonna have fails. recognizing people is flawed, to then have decisions made by humans or a construct designed by humans is gonna result in fails. plato's philosopher king is kinda swell, but if you got a system with power centralized in a single person, then is inevitable persons who wish for power and is less altruistic than plato envisions is gonna manage to become king at some point in near or distant future... and then what? *shrug* the whole point o' us Constitutional representative democracy (or whatever) is to put systemic limits on power. unfortunate, the current office o' the President is so not what were designed in 1787. there is wisdom in the US Constitution rejection o' athenian democracy, but were also foolishness as many o' the limits on the Presidency were based on the notion the chief executive would be selected by an actual electoral college, resulting in a kinda philosopher king for an office which didn't have much power in 1787. contrary to founder expectations and ordinary notions o' human self interest, Congress voluntarily abdicated power to the Chief Executive by drips and drabs over the intervening decades, and the President who were so not chosen by democratic process became the one national office every american citizens casts a vote to elect. point is the plan for american "democracy" looked much different in 1787 and regardless, you gotta assume people is gonna be people, eventual mucking up even the best ideas. the founders, in their wisdom, did indeed assume the people were the fundamental flaw in their design, but they foolish believed they had accounted for stoopidity and greed. fools. if a system is designed by people to govern people, it is already broken. just is. need accept that fact and recognize that inherent flawed and broken is nevertheless better than state of nature... but am thing this is the point where Gromnir and @Gorthfundamental diverge. in the absence o' a system, greedy, cruel and the multitude o' ordinary frightened people will band together for protection or power and even in the unlikely event their collective motives is benign, perhaps the next people controlling the group will be less altruistic. as an aside, clarence thomas granting a stay for lindsey graham were not a complete shock and is not some kinda indication lindsey is gonna weasel out o' testifying. however, it does indicate there is likely no unanimous SCOTUS opinion on the issue. we should know more by the end o' the week. Stuff like this is actually impossible to measure -- and Zoraptor makes a good point about Mandela, above. I suppose the classic case is the Vietnam war: it was very unpopular and led to huge protests. There are those who assert that these protests were very significant, and then there are those who say that they had no effect whatsoever; the US came back from the war only because it was becoming much too costly in terms of money, effort and casualties. Unfortunately, we cannot save-scum the universe so I don't think there's any way to determine the influence of the various possible factors.[*] Bono and the Edge weren't all that keen to perform in Kiev because they thought it might look a bit shabby, which I'd tend to agree with. However, Zelenskyi eventually persuaded them by stressing how important such a show of solidarity would be for the Ukrainians. So there's that, too: we look at these things from various perspectives. My stance on the former Yugoslavia conflict, for instance, was permanently and dramatically altered by actually going to work at a hospital where they operated on children with limbs and other body parts missing. [*] This last bit, btw, goes a long way to describing why the whole sciences of psychology and sociology are very problematic. We, as humans, are extremely good at coming up with credible-sounding narratives post factum, but demonstrating that they are actually true is a different thing altogether.1 point

I wouldn't use words as harsh as "entitlement" or "whine" as you do, but it's tricky, I agree. Footballing legend Graeme Souness is one of those who have suggested that Ukraine should be in the World Cup despite not qualifying. However, he didn't say anything about kicking Iran out, his suggestion was to make one group of 5 countries to accommodate Ukraine.1 point

A boy my son's age disappears in the first episode and then a girl my daughter's age gets killed in the second episode. What genre do you think that is? edit: There are a lot of different types of horror movies. I can watch the slapsticky ones like Evil Dead all day long, but when it involves kids, I get more uncomfortable.1 point

Myself and a lot of other players are having constant fps drops and stuttering due to a bug in the recent patch. I have attached a photo of a location I found where black ants are constantly depositing food. Other people have also said the same is happening in ant hills and places where ants normally put the food bits like the ant hill and cookie bits. I can't attach the files as they're too large - https://imgur.com/a/fzyfXvr1 point

Well, that is the reason I reloaded and fought for their freedom instead of buying them. When your 5 year old companion is more outraged by slavery than you, it's time to reconsider your actions. azata, unlike most mythic paths, avoids punishing you with incongruous alignment choices. is few head scratcher moments with azata. is a whole lotta whimsy moments with azata. am thinking azata is the mythic least likely to frustrate player expectations. however, is not much payoff for the azata mythic path from a storytelling pov. the elysium option has humorous and charming moments, but if you are expecting more than good conquers all, then you will be disappointed. people like aivu, but if you are expecting more than the cookie schtick and aforementioned whimsy, you will be left wanting and aivu is a fair representation o' azata in general. am actual ok with azata 'cause a few o' the other paths we find genuine frustrating, but am not gonna try and convince anybody that owlcat did a fantastic job with the writing. given our expectations and experience with other mythics, not frustrating were enough. HA! Good Fun!1 point

Just started a Lich run, time to be an evil bony gal who sacrifices everything and everyone for power. I wish that the Lich looked more like canon PF liches instead of just the skelly, I like the creepy factor of stretched skin and dead eyes more than being bony. But anyways, Silly Little Cat > Thirsty Lizard Goat. I would rather travel with someone as deranged as Wenduag than have to hear another one of Lann's jokes or sue him for sexual harassment. Oh, and I played with Photomode and discovered that during the (close to) opening cutscene and found out that a headless dragon is under the city before Deskari shows up. Maybe I'll post when I get home. Sounds like you're living the best Azata life.1 point

Though my previous comment hasn't been approved yet, I tested this issue with a fresh single player game, and it worked flawlessly. No stuttering, no lag, nothing. So as OP suggests, it's likely something such as ants compiling food which eventually just gets to the point where the game can't handle to load of items.1 point

I bought most of the slaves. Set some free (leaving them to fend for themselves), sent some to my camp as demon fodder (I expected a fight to come up) and sent some to die in the arena to buy myself some demon goodwill Yes, playing chaotic to the max... Halfway through second round of treasure islands. I hope it wont wrap around and present me with a third set of islands, as it is getting a bit samey by now. Main difference being enemies being bigger and ready to jump you immediately when you open a door Best treasure so far I would say was the gadget for Tricksters (ironically after I buried trickster and went legend)1 point

There seems to be a temp fix ingame that my friend discovered. If you unequip the natual explorer mutation and then go into combat, it should reset your movement modifiers once the combat ends. It sucks to not be able to reliably use the mutation rn, since it seems soooo good when it's working, but at least if this works y'all can circumvent the issue. Just unequip nat. explorer, fight a mob, and wait for combat to end.1 point

Sad thing is that base Skyrim actually runs okay, apparently all the paid mods included with the Anniversary Edition absolutely tank performance. Now these "Creation Club" mods are made by users, not by Bethesda, so you might think that it's just a matter of amateurs making poor-quality mods and poor vetting of those mods by Bethesda. Hah, that would make far too much sense, and therefore it's firmly not the case. So yes, the problem has to do with mods. But it has nothing to do with the content of the mods, or how they're coded. Due to how Skyrim fundamentally works, the simple act of enabling a mod reduces performance even if that mod is literally blank and does nothing. The Anniversary Edition has 74 mods included. The game would be broken even if all 74 of those mods were dummy mods with no content whatsoever. The most insane part of course is the fact that this problem would have been identified had someone at Bethesda literally attempted to launch the game just a single time after enabling all those mods. But apparently that was too much work for them. Source: https://old.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/xsebhw/dont_buy_skyrim_anniversary_edition_on_switch/iqkjth6/1 point

About 10 days ago I started this project simply because I wanted to do a modded POTD run and I wanted to properly plan for it. But instead of looking for a pen and paper I started looking for a spreadsheet and when I couldn't exactly find what I was looking for, I decided to make one instead. It was fun having a small project like this and I'm glad how it turned out to be. What it does: Allows you to make a character at any level of your choice. You can choose active and passive abilities based on class restrictions and it also gives you a summary of your character without any buffs. Tab 1 is strictly for player character only therefore it will not feature companion only subraces, cultures, backgrounds and so on. Tabs will automatically rename to their corresponding character's name, so in a sense it gives you a pseudo party view once you're done with all of them. I also tried to guide the user as much as I could, for example, you will not be able to put more skill points than you should have or you can't put more than 18 or less than 3 points into a single attributes, but obviously your total attributes can exceed those numbers. Most cells are auto-populated so it actually requires very little input from the user. What it doesn't do: At the moment it can't differentiate between an adventurer and a companion. So the user is expected to know that stuff like Watershaper or Principi sen Patrena shouldn't be selected for non companion party members. It also can't give you a description of selected passive or active abilities, so the user is expected to know what they actually do beforehand, currently I have no idea how I can overcome this. What it might do in the future: Ideally in the future I'd like to add weapon proficiencies and their modals as well as a list of all unique items. And maybe eventually turn it into a full on equipment manager which would be very nice because then you would be able to see your buffed stats. Go to File > Make a Copy Unfortunately at the moment I have no plans of making one (converting this one) for the first game. Leave a message here or just DM me if you think something is not working the way it should or if you have an idea. It has very few scripts and after the initial load it should be quite fast to use.1 point
