  1. Sorry @213374U, but your argument about Ukrainian forces being in civil buildings is moot. The first thing which Russia bombs in every single city including Western Ukraine, where is no active conflict brewing) are Hospitals, Schools and Kindergartens. Then they start shelling water and food reservoirs and only then other infrastructure. After that they try to attack against Ukrainian forces, and get asskicked. Even in Mariupol which is besieged from day 3 of the invasion, they are losing whole brigades day by day... The other thing is Mariupol, Kharkiv and most of the cities around Doneck and Luhansk are cities with very high population of ethnic Russian. So in the 22 days of shelling, Putin managed to kill more Russians than Ukrainians (even if we exclude all of his fallen soldiers). That big of a **** he is...

  2. Hey, we have a border too! Königsberg enclave, stuffed to the brim with ballistic missile systems all looking Westward in honestly completely totally friendly peacekeeping way. On a slightly more frivolous note, because TGIF, here are some actual statements of Russian propaganda, grouped together by creative individuals for absurd comedy purposes: † Russia did not attack Ukraine, but Ukraine must stop resisting and surrender. † Special operation is not war, but economical sanctions is war. † Special operation was started to prevent war. That‘s exactly why it is using army. † Russian conscripts were not sent to front lines, but some of them died there. † Maryupol‘s maternity ward was bombed because it was hiding nationalists dressed as pregnant women, but we did not bomb that maternity ward anyway, it was nationalists who bombed it themselves. Also it‘s a fake made in Hollywood. † Special operation is going according to plan, our troops do not encounter resistance, but in three weeks we only captured Kherson and blockaded Maryupol. † All Ukrainian war planes were destroyed in airports, but two weeks later Ukraine treacherously bombed Belarus. † It is OK to wish death to Ukrainians on Russian TV, but wishing death to Russian occupants is extremism. † Russian troops are not fighting against civilians, but exclusively against nationalists. All 40 millions of them.

  6. The argument, I think, would be that as you haven't done any of those things that you define as choices, it is an indicator that what you have is the illusion of a choice rather than an actual choice. That your unique combination of your biology and upbringing and education and so forth (thus the thing that is you) is defined such that your choices aren't choices but the inexorable outcome of all the things that came before you had a 'choice'. The falling dominoes have a predetermined path - they don't fall in ways contrary to that path.

  7. No, and people who uncover war crimes and make them public should be tried as traitors to the fullest extent of the law, saddled with trumped up charges if need be, and we should all be doing a little happy dance when their last appeals fall on deaf ears. Right?

  8. Really. But what it is impossible to try people responsible for Iraq right now for whatever reasons? So, since someone who committed war crimes went yet uninvestigated, Putler can do whatever he pleases because, I dunno, it's rude to jump the Hague queue?

  11. Sweeping up fallen leaves and burning them to bake sweet potatoes is something common in Japan, they're called Yakiimo, unless it comes from street vendors/food trucks that use hot stones to bake them, in that case they're called Ishiyakiimo (stone baked sweet potato). Magic nor no, that's not nearly enough leaves for that though, so no idea what she's doing there. Ishiyakiimo is something pretty similar to what we have in winter, except people here bake regular potatoes and sweet chestnuts. I wonder if any of the street vendors survived the COVID-19 lockdowns. Guess we'll see next winter, assuming there won't be any more lockdowns, at least.

  13. I do not have anything on paper (so to speak) - but it's not difficult. I would use high DEX, PER and INT. RES can be dumped. CON can be low, too. Rest into MIG. Max Arcana. You can also get the Firethrower's Gloves early. Later maybe even train Arcana at some teacher (don't recall which one does it). Every point of Arcana = +1 ACC with Spearcaster and +2 with an Imbue Shot with Spearcaster. And of course you get access to all the great scrolls. Pick Arcane Archer/Troubadour. Phrases which are good: Thick Grew Their Tongues, Sure Handed Ila, Aefyllath Ues Mith Fyr and later Many Lives Pass By. For invocations I would pick mainly summons and Their Champion. The best summons are the animated weapons, but early on the wyrms are very good, too, especially if you sing Sure Handed Ila. They don't scale well so you might want to retrain out of them at higher levels and pick something else. White Worms scales very well for example... Pick everything from the Ranger tree that gives accuracy and is suited for ranged weapons, Driving Flight, Concussive Tranquilizer and of course Gunner. The Anmal Companion is sidelined for this build because it's of not much use in the field when you are shooting imbues all around. It would only get stuck or pulled around. You can use it as your bodyguard though. I would pick a bear, give it Resilient Companion and keep it close. In theory it couls also interrupt with Takedown - but I found it's too tedious to try and keep it out of your own AoE shots. Weapon Proficiency Arbalest of course, a backup weapon for pierce-immune foes is not bad. Essence Interrupter + modal is perfect for this. But anthing that doesn't do pierce-only damage is fine (also see Eccea's Arcane Blaster or so). Maia's Sharpshooter's Garb is nice for this, especially if you pair it with a pet that reduces recovery penalties of armors - like Abraham or Cutthrouat Cosmo. A good alternative would be Miscrean't Leathers or High Harbinger's Robe. For the head it's either Acinas Tricorn or Helm of the White Void (if use this when I wear the High Harbinger's Robe because it just looks better and the helm is very nice, too). Don't forget the Ring of the Marksman. Some Boots of Speed or Bounding Boots and it's cool. You main tank (for example Edér) should get an items that makes them immune to push & pull effects (there's the rel. early Upright Captain's Belt) and also an item or passive that makes them resistant to DEX afflictions. That way Imbue:Web and Imbue:Eora will have zero effect on your tank while enemies will get screwed up every few secs. After imbue shots just wait and see what casters are doing. If any of them starts to cast something you don't want them to: shoot them once with the modal active. If the enemies don't have concentration you can switch away from Thick Grew THeir Tongues and use something like Mith Fyr for more damage or Many Lives Pass By for pouring out some skeletons. But always keep Sure Handed Ila going.

  14. This is how I break it down these days (level range by quests i typically take on): 1-4: "port maje zone" very hard, but avoidable (as @dgray62 says) 5-8: "nekataka tasks, benweth, initial sansa islands, oathbinder" can be very hard, but if you properly chain quests together, it it actually pretty smooth; there's also many non-violent quests or options to help ramp up. some of hte difficulty is simply similar to 1-4, where you just don't have a lot of options or your gear is outmatched (heavy armor on potd is still almost irrelevant at this stage because of enemy PEN scaling) 9-12: "tikawara, family pride, old city" reasonable challenge but a little bit less than the previous section, especially for an all-out violent option in family pride 13-20: rest of the game, OK challenge that can occasionally be easy. at this point you can juggle main quests and other faction quests and have tons of options so you're never forced into a super hard situation. i take Beast of Winter around 13-14 and depending on what potd challenges i have enabled it can brutal or an OK challenge (e.g. an unlucky roll with galawain's challenge can be brutal; a squishier party will get wrecked by the rogue archers in the bridge section). SSS around level 17. FS is the biggest challenge, I start at level 20 (sometimes level 19), and can be very hard depending on my party. Megabosses are always the technical puzzles that that they are at level 20. the most difficult battles are in the 1-4 range, and also FS. SSS and BoW have hard fights, but both can be over-leveled to make them easier. FS is special in that it's basically balanced at level 20, so you can spend the entire DLC at level 20 and face a decent challenge.

  15. Are you talking about Snowden and Assange? They both accused of criminal charges, they stand accused of several real crimes. They not trumped up at all But you seem to assuming they will both be automatically found guilty as if the US judicial system is corrupt and a kangaroo court? Their would be lots of US media attention on these cases and lots of people supporting them due to the interminable US political " left vs right " debates and dichotomies So their is no way the Federal government would fabricate charges that could somehow survive public scrutiny So they will only be found guilty if they broke the law and I know we all support one of foundations in all our countries which is a free and fair and transparent judiciary and overall legal system . And we all support people who commit crimes being punished ?

  17. @Zoraptor You are really the only active person on these forums who generally responds to questions about this conflict and I wanted to understand something One of the reasons from Putins propaganda to justify the invasion is the fear of nukes being moved by NATO to Ukraine which means nukes on the border of Russia But both Estonia and Latvia are on the border of Russia and both countries are part of NATO. So if NATO wanted to move nukes to the border of Russia they could do with Estonia and Latvia ? So how does one justify this argument for an invasion of Ukraine?

I don't know why I bother since you likely post these tangents deliberately, but in case if I'm mistaken - yes, civilian deaths in Iraq is humanitarian catastrophe and should not be forgotten. But when you throw them in here, in the thread about ongoing revanchist war waged by unhinged fascist dictator, it does not look like you are doing this because you give a **** about war crimes committed against dead Iraqis. It looks like you are looking for excuses to whitewash war crimes currently being committed by said fascist dictator.

  19. So, there it is, the final episode of Discovery, season four. The way the show meandered through being really stupid in the first half now paid off with an utterly rushed conclusion that has elements that make no sense, everything is resolved instantly and gets no time to breathe, but at least Michael cries twice in the episode. They also seem to have reused art assets for the new species they introduced there, because it sure feels like I've seen those before. I guess they really bought leftover Mass Effect assets from Bioware. Every frame is so dense. Wait, wrong franchise. I wonder if the Reapers ever assumed direct control over those guys... The conclusion: Yeah, it was dumb.

With the loss of Poland, DDR, Czechoslovakia etc. as buffer territory, Ukraine became the "new" buffer to protect against invasions from the west.

  25. Most of the 'silly nonsense' is about India and China not supporting the western position, not them supporting Russia. Unless you take ComradeYellow seriously, and you really shouldn't. Might not be relevant for India, since most western countries like to pretend it doesn't exist except to contain China, but China really couldn't care less about western impressions- after years of Yellow Peril scaremongering and trade wars what impressions are there to squander? Thinking anyone else is going to do anything to China over Ukraine is just... laughable. Most of them won't even do anything to Russia besides vote in the UNGA. I mean, if we are going to go by official statements rather than twitter scuttlebutt from unnamed sources we get: Definitely distancing themselves from Russia's position there. Once again, fighting diplomatic battles on multiple fronts at the same time is monumentally stupid, and they won't be paused just because it's convenient to the west if they are. Oh yeah. How many Important People were going to be imminently arrested/ sacked by Putin so far? Gerasimov, Shoigu (plus he was going to launch a coup...), the head of the FSB and SVR? as well... Confirmed number actually arrested or sacked so far is, well, zero?

  28. Yeah I saw this too. So much for the silly nonsense that India is supporting the Russians. They never were. And even China is beginning to cave on their support for Russia precisly because they're beginning to feel global pressure to stand with the Ukrainians. GLOBAL pressure. Not just Western pressure. And they're getting fearful they will start losing respect as a responsible player in the world. I predict soon Putin will expand from doing psycho things inside Ukraine to doing psycho things inside Russia, such as arresting and executing people within his military and intel establishment. Then he will start doing that to ordinary average Russians who dare to protest his dirty war, you know, all those "traitor scum." At that point, I expect (hope?) someone within the establishment will step up and put a bullet in Palputin's head, like putting down a rabid animal.

  30. If you are inclined toward Shieldbearer by all means go for it. You'll be sturdier with a shield, and thus could more reliably support the party. You'd lose out on the nice healing from the KW, but if you use Lethandria's Devotion as your shield you can heal and also boost allies deflection with it. You could also equip the Outworn Buckler in your offhand. If you switch the weapons rapidly you'll heal and also shorten hostile durations with every switch. This can really come in handy when you're hard pressed. Your stats look reasonable. As for standout invocations, Thrice upgraded to Her Revenge is an amazing damage dealer from beginning to end of the game. Her Tears is also very good. If you use Balance Polishing Mod White Worms is also fantastic, but it's buggy in the vanilla game. For MC chanters, the ancient weapons is by far the best summons. Prior to then, the wurms can be good, especially if you focus their fire on a single target, like pesky mages. The ogres are great if your party isn't melee oriented. But beware, whenever you fight ciphers they'll charm your summons. Apparently their will defense is low, so they're vulnerable. I usually kill them off before summoning anything. As for Brisk recitation, it's great if you want to cast invocations frequently. The trade off is you won't have the nice linger for chants that buff your party (or debuffs on the enemies).

  32. I don't understand quantum mechanics, so I'm obviously not going to address it from that angle although it seems there's a pretty serious argument for it just there, but for me, the entire issue starts from the moment of conception. You are a package of genetic material that you had no will in deciding, genetic material that plays a huge deterministic role in many of your earliest base traits, which then set the tone for your development. Speaking of your development, it is shaped by environments and other people you have little to no control over until you are an adult - and what little power you do have in said environments you are still simply a walking, talking underveloped manifestation of your genetic material and its environmental influences, with virtually no ability to intelligently make conscious changes. Finally, at some point, you are an adult and gain some measure of independence...by which time the vast majority of your personality, mannerisms, thinking processes, behaviors et al. have already been by and large decided as a result of your childhood, and the changes that occur to them after that are generally not the result of any "decisions" you will make, but rather a variety of chance environmental interactions that you will or will not pursue or be receptive towards dependent upon...what, exactly? I didn't decide my personality or the environment I was in that made it so one idea would heavily appeal to me while another wouldn't - I am a slave to my "natural" inclinations that I never had a hand in deciding. Sure, I can force myself to do something that I would not naturally be inclined to do, but the very act of doing that simply to resist my nature is some part of my nature and another distinct inclination to do something different in of itself. Once I start thinking about "what makes one person naturally have the ability to be self-aware and be able to 'choose' to do something contrary to their nature while another cannot", my head starts to hurt and existentialism dread starts to set in again. Ultimately, I agree with rjshae, though - it really doesn't matter in terms of actually living out our lives, and while I think determinism really does make the most sense, I would not use it to excuse anyone's behaviors, thoughts, or actions. Bad music aside, boy howdy indeed if that's the case - I do not want to watch her early videos if this is "much better".

  34. Yes, and it's really problematic because it just gives the culture war brigade a readily exploitable point of attack. Almost 20 years ago, we were discussing Star Trek Enterprise on the Interplay forum and making fun of Ensign Mayweather, the token black guy on the crew, actually counting his lines and marking episodes down where he had more than one. He was so obviously a token character the writers wanted on the show for inclusivity's sake but didn't know what to do with - but at least the other characters on the crew felt a little more fleshed out. Discovery, meanwhile, feels like the entire crew was made to check every box on the token minority list, and not many of them are real characters beyond that. There's a gay couple, a body positivity girl, Michael is of course the token black hire, Michelle Yeoh rounded everything out as the Asian lady on the show. Half of those weren't even real characters, and the half that were got mostly terrible writing to work with. Subsequent seasons added a token trans character and a token non-binary and it's painfully obvious that the writers don't know what to do with them either. From there you can just so easily point to diversity ruining your show, while that has very little to do with it. These characters would all be crap even if they all were caucasian and cis-heterosexual. One could easily also get the impression that these shows are insulated from any professional criticism on account of their tokenistic approach, and I've argued before that this is perhaps one of the reasons to include them - or better put, to keep including more and more of them. Discovery airs to raving critical reviews all the time, while the show is just plain terrible. While such things are always subjective, Discovery has a writing and direction problem, and had so right from the start. I watch that, look up reviews and wonder what's wrong with the world. Then you watch a YouTube video by Critical Drinking Billy 'I hate cuckservatives' of Akkad III telling you that in the past, your favorite shows used to be better because critics treated them fairly and writers worked hard on them because the culture war garbage didn't force them to include every minority under the sun, and you might actually find yourself agreeing with it. It's insidious. Especially because in the case of Star Trek, it's a franchise that was always very progressive for its time. It would be the perfect vehicle, but they're just making an utter mess of it. Also, because I'm contractually obligated (but also want) to, I need to once again point out that most of these things were done better by a now 30 year old cartoon adaptation that had a group of girls transform into superheroes by putting on makeup and nail polish and fight evil in the name of love and justice - and yes, that was more than occasionally just about as campy as it sounds, but it also had real characters, almost always treated everyone as equal (and if anyone did not, it came from the villains) and never felt as if it was pushing an agenda. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was a damn sight better representing equality and acceptance than Star Trek Discovery or that Captain Marvel film. I had a good chuckle at RLM's comment in their Midnight Mass video that I watched after the fact when they said it was the best Stephen King adaptation ever that wasn't based on an actual work by Stephen King. I made the same point very early in my posts about it, I think.

  35. Ethics aside and just looking at the technical side of things, Russia made two significant military blunders. Not having twenty first century communication technology and a complete lack of modern air warfare doctrine. Ironical that Ukraine is calling for the US to start fighting Russian planes when they are hardly there to begin with. Russia has no air superiority whatsoever. Much of the rest of that military disaster that is the ground campaign follows from those two issues. An enemy that knows your every move and lack of timely intel/reconnaissance Two lessons they need to learn… some day.

Thus, even if Mariupol "falls," it won't actually fall, in that the Russians may occupy the city but won't control it and no Ukrainian soldiers will be surrendering or getting captured as a result. The Russians are getting their worthless ass handed to them by the Ukrainians. They are angry and bitter about how this makes them look. So, the pathetic cowards that they are, they're resorting to slaughtering women and children to feel like they're big, strong men.

  40. You need more manual-handling with melee characters, that's for sure. In mid-difficulty fights you just shoot stuff dead. Pretty simple... If you are set on melee then I would employ a Rogue/something. Escape is cheap, it comes at lvl 1 so you can use the same tactics right from the start of the game and some of the Rogue Strikes will interrupt on graze. If you pair with a Ghost Heart you could have two sources of cheap mobility and you will have Concussive Tranquilizer at some point. Or pair with Monk and use Force of Anguish to play squash with the casters or use Stunning Surge to stun them for a long time. If you use Sun & Moon flail you can not only enhance the crit chances per swing but also get a very high chance of triggering Swift Flurry's additional attacks. Nice mix of disruption and dps and high mobility, too. What you can also do in order to take out two casters right at the start of battle for a long time: Use a Berserker/Priest and cast Withdraw on those casters while frenzied. THe confusion of hte Berserker allows you to cast Withdraw on enemies. It has not hit roll so it will always hit - 100%.

  42. If I want a character that can shut down casters reliably (and kill them rel. quickly) and also be useful against bosses (and maybe shut them down, too) I build an arbalest or a crossbow shooter. The modal of both will interrupt reliably (on hit) which cancels the caster's ability and takes away the spell use. Since enemies' concentration prevents interrupts I like to use a build that contains a Troubadour. The Troubadour can run "Thick Grew Their Tongues" and "Sure-Handed Ila" simulateously which is important. The first one removes all Concentration from enemies and the second speeds up reloading weapons twice: once the recovery bonus of 20% gets applied and then also the reloading bonus of the chant will get applied. So as an arbalest user you get 20% speedup two times. This is needed because the modal of arbalests prolings the already long reloading phase. Sure-Handed Ila counters this nicely. As second class I like to use the Arcane Archer. First of all it's a Ranger - so it has a lot going for it when it comes to ranged weapons and high accurcy through passives and active abilities. It also got Gunner which stacks with Sure-Handed Ila and speeds your reloading up further. However, the Arcane Archer has two more amazing tools in his belt for messing enemies' actions up: Imbue:Web and Imbue:Eora. Both proc an instance of the spell with every projectile + jump. They also get bonus accuracy with Arcana - nice synergy with Spearcaster which already gets such a bonus - they stack. So every imbue shot with Spearcaster+Driving Flight will produce two high accuracy instances of the spell (here Binding Web or/and Pull or Eora). Pull of Eora alone is devastating for enemy casters because it cancels their actions and whirls them around periodically every 3 secs. Binding Web also pulses every 3 secs but it "only" stucks enemies. Well, that changes as soon as you get access to the invocation "Their Champion" which turns every crit roll (including those from Binding Web or Pull or Eora) into an interrupt. Remember that you remove concentration with Thick Grew Their Tongues so every crit from you, no matter the source, will interrupt. This will not only shut down one single caster but everyone in the AoE who gets crit every few seconds. The attack rolls of "Thick Grew Their Tongues" count, too. Then you will have access to summons - later game the Animated Weapons will be very good at shutting down casters, too. One of the weapons does kockdown attacks which work like interrupts - so you'll have a summon that can interrupt casters by themselves. The other two weapons will help to kill off that caster. And you also have access to invocations that can shut down casters on their own, for example the stunning wave or Ben Fidel (frighten prevents offensive spellcasting). Imo this build has it all besides healing: sufficient survivability (just pick a Bear companion to guard you), unlimited access to interrupts, crowd control, single target and AoE damage and fantastic accuracy. It also works well with crossbows. Scourge of Bezello is an excellent weapon for interrupting casters because it has three bolts which will each interrupt - but it somes superlate while Spearcaster cames very early. So for me it's Spearcaster. --- There are other altenatives of course - for example a Mage Slayer Barbarian with fast weapons. Or anything that can reliably hard-CC enemy casters (stun, paralyze, charm/dominate, terrify). I perfer the ranged approach though because you don't have to move a lot which spares time and doesn't put you in harm's way.

  44. I implemented the bonus damages from time spent invisible as auto-hit attacks triggered by stacking charges. But they were attacks from the Ranger, so the pet triggered bonus damages broke ranger's invisibility. There might be some other way to do, such as implentation as Bonus damages on attack but not actual attacks. I think this is the way CP Backstab and Captain Crow sabre work. That being said, I wanted to keep the initial effect of Shadowed Hunters (just adding the bonus damages), and this would have led the ability to have too many and too complicated effects, something that I'm reluctant to do. Also it was very slow and conditional for a precious Tier 9 ability slot. I'm quite satisfied with my current version of Shadowed Hunter (Modular Healing + Hostile Effect defense + Invisibility / Hostile Effect defense + Healing + Intuitive). BPM Ranger Tier 9 is very competitive with all my reworks and only 3 possible picks, so Shadowed Hunters need some raw power to compete. That's why the idea came back for backstab : Backstab is only about damages, so having "complex" rule about this is OK. And it's a Tier 1, so it can be about situational spicing.
